Fitness Pros: Hiring Help From “I Do” to "Oh F**k" Opportunities

Is hiring help on your radar?  Are you at a point you need to hire?  The start of relationships is always yummy and exciting. The middles are riddled with hiccups and speed bumps, and the ends are either mutual or explosive.  Here's what I know after 37 years of private business work, as the individual being managed, as the manager, and as owner. You know what it takes to write a good ad for support?  It takes copywriting skills.  It's not that different, hiring internal customers vs attracting external customers. Over 20 years ago when I first labeled our staff members internal customers in a then mid-sized health club,it changed the way I led them.  [Mind you, I still had a lot to learn. For instance about the different personality needs. I assumed too often- and still do - that people are like me. That is I get my satisfaction from accomplishment, finishing, I actually don't love praise from others because if I feel myself it was well done that's so much more to me and if I don't that kind of external praise doesn't land on me well. They're Not You But I tick differently than others. And so do you. For instance, I assume people will get the job done that they say they will, or we will communicate about it ahead of time. It would never occur to me to change a date or deadline without advance notice. But mostly, I would just get it done. I know what I can get done realistically and I don't promise more. Not everyone is like that. I Never Knew External acknowledgement is one of the most important things to most people. To someone like me, that's a shock, so I have to really effort to do it, without if feeling fake. And it's not that I don't appreciate the job, but when the job expectation is to complete it, on time, working well, that feels to me like making a huge fuss about stopping at a red light].  I've been involved in private businesses from health clubs, to financial planning businesses (very lightly and by way of marriage), and my personal fitness business since 1987. I've stepped into leadership titles often before I was a leader because that's how we did it in the fitness industry early on.  Know what I mean? If you were hired and promoted fast, you do.  Don't Make the Fitness Industry Hiring Help Mistake Teaching fitness, and being a responsible rockstar employee that showed up on time, never called in sick, then often got you promoted to “director” or “manager.” But.. it's an entirely different set of skills.  There was a need to set a standard, a set of guidelines, and expectations for job success and what would lead to termination if those expectations weren't met. I've conducted thousands of weekly and monthly meetings, some effective, some just chit-chat in my eyes that employees loved. So you've got to balance the task-minded, focused with the what your hires need.  Again, a need for clear communication about needs, and goals, and task-at-hand so that none of it is forgotten.  You're a New Leader? Or maybe from the aftermath of 2020, you struck out on your own. Suddenly you're the owner, entrepreneur, and you may wear all the hats for a time. As you do, if you don't create systems (the steps for the actions you take every day), you'll struggle to delegate when you hire. I've got systems I created in 2013 however and I have yet to find someone who can do them as quickly as I can, so I still do them too much. I see them sitting in the little file that says “systems” dated 2013.  That's a delegation problem. That's on me. At some point hiring help is mandatory for your growth. Compensating an A-gamer who gets things done on your timeline, meets deadlines, is proactive and intuitive, and careful to check and test anything before releasing it to the public is asking a lot. But not too much.  Not if you're clear from the beginning. If you have someone who doesn't want to be contacted when something they've built goes wrong and wasn't checked & tested, you've got a problem. But if you failed to share the details for measures of success and expectations in reporting, it's on you.  Business Differences and Similarities The dynamics in each business are different. From a small one-location fitness center, to a partner-owned studio, to a multi-location business with annual growth of a department that had to work within a whole and 8 team members around a conference room table every Monday, to a small solo-run financial planning business with 4 individuals and a region of dozens of agents… each was different and yet so very similar.  You as leader have to be clear. And I for one, wasn't. When I started hiring new people to help with tech and customer service, I wasn't clear. And because of it I learned a lot of lessons.  So.. in case you'd like to be spared some of those, take this message now!  Successfully hiring help hinges on clear expectations and measures of success. When you do that you find the right person for the job. You're finding the right “who” to perform rather than filling a what (a person to fill a position who has the skills). You have to have both.  Doesn't that ring true of any program or service you offer? You've got to describe with complete clarity the expectations for the customer. You share with them what you'll deliver in terms of transformation(benefits), and the way you'll do it (features).  Similarly when you're hiring help, you've got to be clear. There's been a shift. If you want to level up a team, the best way to leap a hurdle of hiring help is to stop writing job descriptions alone and be clear on the measures of success for a job.  Successfully hiring help hinges on clear expectations and measures of success.  When you do that you find the right person for the job. You're finding the right who to perform rather than filling a what (a position).  How do you get clear? In a special Q and A during the Copywriting for Marketing to Women masterclass I'll answer how to write a better job description to avoid headaches.  In addition to the 5 Templates you'll get, I'll share a template for creating a killer job opening so whether you're hiring someone to help you build a campaign funnel, manage your social media, assist with your household needs so you can take care of business, or something else, you have the best shot of getting a match you'll both say “I do” to.  EXCITING OPPORTUNITY It's really exciting when you step into leadership for your own business. Are you thinking like a business owner who already makes what you want to make? Who already has the influence you want to have? It's easy to play small and realize one morning that what's not working is you.  Hiring Help Gets Easier with the Right Words It's also easy, oh so easy, to flip the mindset shift, and get on with hiring help in a most effective way so your days are far less stressful and you have the creativity you need to without having to keep a thumb on deadlines for everyone else. Every week… the measure is there. Every day between meetings and check ins team members know what has to be done and their role in doing it.  Clear messaging internally and externally is a big part of your start, your ability to grow, and your ability to scale a business. When you're hiring help it's crucial. Ready to get clear on messaging?  Learn more.  July 21 I'm sharing a 3-part 3-hour copywriting for marketing to women workshop. I'll present and you'll craft messages during as well as take 5 Templates with you for use creating your daily, weekly, and monthly content. The bonus template is based on today's content, hiring help. Register to save your spot as I share the 5 profiles of female buyers, how to emotionally propel them into action ethically when you have a product or service that improves the QOL.  Resources: fitnessmarketingmastery.com/copywriting  FAQs about the copywriting workshop: Q: Will there be a replay?  A: Yes, so you can "workshop" in your own time. (and replay this later to create killer content for your upcoming programs!) Q: I'm not even sure about my offer yet, will this be appropriate for me? A: Absolutely. No matter where you are, communication is important. You can use the right words to identify what your audience wants. Even with a small list, (or for growing a list), copywriting is a skill you can't succeed without.

Cherilyn Murerhas spent a lifetime cracking glass ceilings. In the mid 80s, she received a law degree (one of the few women to attend law school at the time). She then launched a consulting firm which became recognized as one first, legal-based healthcare consulting firms in the country. When Cherilyn sold Murer Consultants in 2017, the firm had more than 500 clients in 42 states, Europe and the Middle East, employing 40 people, 28 of whom were lawyers. But retirement wasn’t in the cards: she started CGM Advisory Group a few months later. The pursuit of intellectual stimulation and the desire to solve problems and affect changewas has always beenher driving force. Today, Cherilyn’s life portfolio still includes healthcare but also higher education and the arts. In addition to a board membership of private equity-owned company Surgical Solutions, she is on the boards of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Union League Club of Chicago, Northern Illinois University Foundation and Luminarts Cultural Foundation where she was just reelected for a second term as President. She cracked the ceiling once again when inshe becamethe first female officer of the 24-member board of directors at Lebanese American University. Subsequently, she was elected Vice Chairman of the board, a position she presently holds. Cherilyn has written seven healthcare text books and over 200 articles and is a frequent speaker on healthcare, higher education, the arts, and women’s leadership. She has won over a dozen awards for her business success and philanthropic accomplishments, including the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame, the “Top Women in Healthcare Legacy Award” from PR News, and the 2018 “Women of Influence” award from Chicago Business Journal. In addition to empowering nonprofits, supporting women in business isher key focus. Gender equality, she says,is reachable only when both men and women, and society believe that everyone deserves an equal chance at success. Q. You launched your first company shortly after graduating from  school when your children were still pre-schoolers. With so few women entrepreneurs at the time, you lacked role models to serve as an inspiration. And,you realized there were also biases against women in leadership positions. In this environment, what made you feel you could succeed? Q: A recent study published in the Harvard Business Review revealed that women are reluctant to advocate for career advancement, raises or other perks out of fear the requests might end poorly. How important IS self-advocacy to get ahead, and is it a skill that can be learned? Q.You’ve been quoted saying you believe that women have an obligation to help other women.Do you feel this is true, and if so, how does that manifest itself in the real world? Q. In Illinois (where you live) and my home state of California, state legislatures recently enacted laws mandating that the boards of publicly traded companies elect at least one femaleboard member. How necessary are laws as a ways to get more women on corporate boards? Q. Over the years, you’ve served on many nonprofit boards, usually in leadership positions. Why is this service and experience so important? Q. Our country is in the midst of a pandemic which has cost thousands of lives and countless jobs. As our nation slowly edges towards what has been called a “new normal,” what advice do you have for women in business to help their companies and communities recover? Q. On a somewhat lighter note, this is a decades-old question: Can women really have it all? Q: Will you share a fact about you that would surprise the people you know?

Also you can lay out your garden so you have an outline so where you would like to start plans always change but it will give a starting point. Q: From Instagram I am trying to find out how to use pet ashes from a cremation in the garden. From what I gather it either is or is very similar to bone meal. We want to memorialize our cat this way. He can be a part of the trees in the forest. But I don’t want to over or under do it so I am trying to get my bearings. A: You're not going to overdo it by spreading the ashes in the garden/ forest. There will be a small amount of potash in the ashes. You have a small amount of ashes, it's not a long term feed to the plants it is a short term but there are some nutriences for the plants and it will not hurt them you would also want to mix them in the soil as they ashes can blow away. Q:Any tips for growing tomatoes upside down? A: Well, tomatoes don't do particularly well upside down that said if you are going to try it I would recommend an indeterminate cherry variety as it does not take as long to grow and develop as large fruiting tomatoes. I would try to grow it in full sun and be sure to keep the root system Hydrated and properly fed over the growing season as tomatoes are heavy feeders and will deplete the nutrients in the soil quickly Q: Will there be a problem with some plants crossing with others of the same family/ varieties if planted close together ? A: No and yes. For the current growing season if you are only growing for production and not going to save seeds then you will have no problem. If you are going to be growing for production and seed saving then yes example you are growing 5 varieties of cucumbers there is a very good chance that you will have crossed varieties if you save seeds. Now that could be good and bad as you may have a new type of cucumber that is tastes great or one the does not Q: Can you use a palm cactus fruit soil to put cantaloupe seedlings in? A: You could but I would advise not to simply because palm cactus fruit soil is made to be drain and dry out much quicker than standard potting soil and as those types of plants do not like to have soil that holds moisture. I would use compost of a potting soil that has a slow release fertilizer in it. Q: I’ve never grown beets before. I don't have a yard and I want to do these in a pot. How big of a pot would I have to get to plant these? A: Beets can grow in any size pot. It is best to grow them in a larger container as you can get more plants in it, and it will have more soil which will take more time to dry out. Holds more moisture. You also can mulch the beets as they come up. Do remember to thin them as they are a cluster seed and without thinning them they will not develop large Bulbs We have grown them in grow bags as small as 3 gallons you can get 3 to 4 plants in and they did very well Q: What would you recommend plastic or metal watering can? A: There are benefits to both and also negatives also metal can rust if not taken care of and brought in plastic and break down via the sunlight plastic is lighter and then medal. But the medal is much more durable. We have both the key to any watering can is to get a size you can handle. Just because it can hold 3 gallons if you can’t carry 3 gallons it do no good. Also make sure the sprinkler had can be removed for cleaning. Q: What is required to grow asparagus? I'm considering it, but have no clue about it. Where would I purchase starts (or whatever they're called)? A. To plant asparagus crowns, dig trenches 12 inches wide and 6 inches deep (8 inches in sandy soil) down the center of the prepared bed. Soak the crowns in compost tea for 20 minutes before planting. Place the crowns in the trenches 1½ to 2 feet apart; top them with 2 to 3 inches of soil. Asparagus thrives in slightly acid soil (pH of about 6.5). Choose a site that has partial sun (full sun is not needed). Asparagus does not like to have its feet “wet,” so be sure that your garden bed has good drainage. If you do not have good drainage, consider growing asparagus in raised beds. Yield. In general, plant between 10 and 12 asparagus plants per person for fresh eating. If you are especially fond of asparagus or want additional produce for freezing, plant a few more. The basic guideline is 50 plants for a family of four, advises Barbara Damrosch, author of "The Garden Primer." Buy them seed saver exchange do not carry asparagus crowns you would want a 2 yr old crown and some online site have them your local independent garden center most likely will have them Q: Do I still need to seal pressure treated wood? A: It is not necessary because of the pressure treated lumber but if IM going to invest in lumber and raised beds I would seal it with a wood sealer just to add an additional layer of protection on that would to potentially get another 2,3,4 years out of it After installation, treated wood takes 2-4 weeks to dry. For optimal results, wait until the wood is completely dry to paint and stain. or you could leave the wood out in the sun for that time treat it then make the beds Check out the companies that make the show possible Power Planter of www.powerplanter.com Proplugger of www.proplugger.com World's coolest rain gauge www.worldscoolestraingauge.com Rootmaker of www.rootmaker.com Us coupon code TWVG at checkout and save 10% of your order Tomato snaps of www.tomatosnaps.com Chapin Manufacturing Inc. of www.chapinmfg.com Pomona pectin of www.pomonapectin.com Iv organics of www.ivorganics.com Dr. JimZ of www.drjimz.com Seed Savers Exchange of www.seedsavers.org Waterhoop of www.waterhoop.com Green Gobbler of www.greengobbler.com Nessalla koombucha of www.nessalla.com MI Green House LLC of www.migreenhouse.com Spartan mosquito of www.spartanmosquito.com Phyllom BioProducts of www.phyllombioproducts.com Happy leaf led of www.happyleafled.com Neptunes harvest of www.neptunesharvest.com Dripworks of www.dripworks.com We Grow Indoors of www.wegrowindoors.com Harvestmore of www.harvest-more.com Deer defeat www.deerdefeat.com Blue ribbon organics www.blueribbonorganics.com Bluemel's garden & landscape center www.bluemels.com Milwaukee,WI official garden center of the show Wisconsin Greenhouse company of https://wisconsingreenhousecompany.com/ Chip Drop of https://getchipdrop.com/?ref=wisconsinvegetable Tree-Ripe Fruit Co of https://www.tree-ripe.com/

To till or not to till your garden We are talking ground garden and raised bed You make that decision for your garden here are something to keep in mind for to till or not till 1st the question needs to be asked: Why do people till the garden? A: It is easy, it loosens the soil A: mix organic matter into your soil Tilling too often or deep can do more damage than good to your soil. Rototilling done too early in the season can result in the garden becoming hard and unable to retain moisture. Any heavy tilling when the soil is wet is also destructive to soil structure. The soil will become terribly compacted and dry out too fast. It you till or you do not till never work the soil if it is too wet. How wet is to wet? If you can take soil in your hand, make a ball and then push into it with your other hand if it does not fall apart it is too wet. What is the best way to till your soil? If your garden is medium- or small-sized, a shovel or spading fork is the best way. But if you want to use that rototiller, just remember, not too deep and only when the soil is ready. And no matter how you break up your soil, you’ll want to add in some compost or organic matter to provide plants with more nutrition for better growth. Watch out for worms they are what makes your garden great Should you till your garden? Things to think about, How does nature do it The soil web Spading the garden and or using a garden fork is less damaging on the soil then using a tiller as it keep from turning it into a powered. Think about layering a inch or 2 on top of your grow area each year. Do not mix it in let the water and bugs and worms do it for you. Tilling brings weed seeds up that have been dormant for years. Some seeds can stay dormant for up to 80 years Cover your soil with something natural leave straw, chemical free seed free grass clippings so it does not weather or wash away In segment two Joey and Holly go over 4 fruit tree and 4 non fruit trees you can grow on your property 4 good landscaping trees and 4 great fruit trees for your property 1st thing before we get into the list one, do you have room for a tree on your property. I do not mean right now I mean when the tree is full grown. Look up, Power lines Will it shade out part of your garden? Can you plant it in the front yard or just in the backyard? Can it grow in my grow zone ? How long before I can get a harvest The average bearing age of fruit trees is as follows; apple - 4 to 5 years, sour or tart cherry - 3 to 5 years, pear - 4 to 6 years, and plum - 3 to 5 years. Ok what are four get fruit trees to grow you find find full size fruit trees but also dwarf fruit trees, you can have an attractive landscape suitable for a small property, There is one "catch" that beginners should keep in mind: Some fruit trees are self-fertile, but many others are not. For the latter, you will need to grow more than one tree to achieve pollination. Make it a point to ask nursery staff about this when buying. All of these entries prefer full sun and well-drained soil. There are semi-dwarf varieties Tall these can get wide too Apple tree dwarf 8 to 10 feet tall none dwarf 20 to 30 feet Cherry tree semi-dwarf cherry tree 10ft tall none dwarf up 30 feet Peach tree dwarf peach tree that reaches 8 to 10 feet tall none 25ft Plum some american varieties can grow is zones as low a 4 can grow 15 to 30 feet If you keep them trimmed correctly they will not get as tall 1 Dogwood tree Depending on the species of Dogwood you plant, you may have a short stout bush or a 25 foot tall tree. 2. She is an Environmental Horticulturist specializing in ecological landscapes and native plants. 1. What is an ecological landscape? 2. Why is it important to grow native plants? 3. What are resources for people to find out what plants are native to their area? 4. Why are pollinators important? Why are they at risk? 5. How can we help the pollinators? 6. Where can our listeners out more about you? Garden questions answered in segment four by Joey and Holly Q: I would love it if I could be pointed in the right direction for what I can do right now to prepare for spring! thank you so much in advance I am in Wisconsin A: A few things you can start doing now is looking at what you want to plant and either but the seeds for direct sowing when the time is right for those seeds and if you want to start seeds indoors not is a good time to start tomatoes, eggplants, the brassicas, herbs, to name a few.

Q: We have seen some crazy line moves in the Preseason. What is triggering the big moves? Is it breaking information on player rotations or is it Money? Q: Looking at the rest of this weeks Preseason action where is the money at?Q: Which side and which total presents the biggest liability for the House?Q: College Football gets underway on Saturday with two games how has the action been and where have the bets been going.Q: Before I let you go last night was a historic night as in the same night the Houston Astros set a record for the highest moneyline on a Baseball Game. Unfortunately they set a second record as well as they were the biggest favorite to lose a game. What did CG close this game at and how good was it for the house to see Houston lose?Q: I would have to think it was a very good night in regards to parlays as most casual bettors are going to throw that big favorite in just to add another leg to the parlay or did you have anyone hit a parlay with Detroit on the ticket for a significant score?2019 AAC College Football Handicapping Preview2019 Independents College Football Handicapping PreviewHandicappers's Corner takes a look at the upcoming NFL and College Football SeasonThe Wagertalk Crew close out the show with their Free Weekend Best BetsWagerTalk Text Club (100% Free): Just text WAGERTALK to 33222 to get a $10.00 coupon for signing up (plus free picks and special offers)!Stay connected with WagerTalk:

Has been the case with CG as well?Q: When you have a stretch of high scoring games like we have seen this year how much can you move the totals to slow this betting trend down. Are you setting numbers higher for example a game that would normally be 8.5 open it at 9 or stay with 8.5 but juice the OVER to -120 or -125 which is more effective at slowing down the rush to the Over?Q: NFL Lines have been out for a few weeks now what teams or games have you taken the most action on?This week on Handicappers Corner the crew give their thoughts on Anthony Davis going to the Los Angeles Lakers from a Vegas perspective and current MLB "earners and burners".Marco, Dave and Ralph handicap and give out some free baseball picks on the following games:Friday June 21stNew York Mets (Jason Vargas) at Chicago Cubs (Yu Darvish)Houston Astros (Brad Peacock) at New York Yankees (James Paxton )Los Angeles Angels (Griffin Canning) at St. Louis Cardinals (Michael Wacha) The Wagertalk Crew close out the show with their Free Weekend Best BetsWagerTalk Text Club (100% Free): Just text WAGERTALK to 33222 to get a $10.00 coupon for signing up (plus free picks and special offers)!Stay connected with WagerTalk:

Discovery of Patriarchy Stress Disorder It was one of those aggravating arguments. My husband was not hearing me. He wasn't seeing me. He wasn't even looking at me. He was looking at the books lined up on my home office shelves. I was going on and on, exasperated. He was quiet. Which aggravated me even more. Then he turned around and said: "I find it fascinating. Here you have all these books on mindfulness, yoga, meditation, all this self-help... And you just can't help yourself.” It stopped me dead in my tracks. He was right. I couldn't help myself. Two graduate degrees in Psychology, decades on the personal development quest, years in therapy -- and I couldn't help myself. As I was catching my breath, I wondered: "Why? What's wrong with me? Why am I able to help my clients dramatically transform their lives, but I can’t help myself?” After taking a closer closer look at what I was doing for my clients that I wasn’t doing for myself, the answer popped up.   Trauma Because I understood that trauma was at the root of all issues my clients were brining to me in therapy, I working with them using mind-body-spirt tools that facilitated trauma resolution. Why wasn’t I doing this for myself? Because I didn’t believe I had trauma. I wasn’t physically or sexually abused, raped, held at a gunpoint, abandoned by my mother or father, my parents didn’t go through an acrimonious divorce. But I had symptoms of trauma (PTSD). I frequently experienced confusion and difficulty concentrating. (which I wrote off as adult ADD or perhaps “mommy brain”). I was prone to anger, irritability, and mood swings (which I attributed to stress in general, and “bad temper” — a theory that my parents had very effectively sold me). I suffered from anxiety and fears. (But I’ve never NOT had anxiety and fears, so I figured it was “just me.”) I was prone to guilt, shame, and self-blame (hello, I’m a woman!). I was prone to withdrawing from others when feeling particularly crappy about myself (a symptom of depression which I had also suffered from — I figured that was just a leftover defense mechanism). Feeling sad or hopeless (classic depression symptoms — what else is new). Feeling disconnected or numb (ditto). But what was my trauma? Then, through grace, an answer came. For 1000s of years under patriarchy, women have been oppressed. The patriarchal culture has been traumatizing us through oppression. We now have scientific evidence that we inherit trauma through our DNA. Therefore, we we all born traumatized by patriarchy into a patriarchal society that continuously re-traumatizes us. This kind of trauma is one common denominator that all women share. I call it Patriarchy Stress Disorder™ (PSD). And then other types of trauma layer on top of it, like a layered cake. I’ll discuss them in more detail in the forthcoming episodes (make sure to subscribe to my podcast so you don't miss them). In light of this discovery, the etiology of my symptoms looked very differently. Confusion and difficulty concentrating — an adaptive mechanism that develops post-traumatically to ensure our survival: constantly scanning and tracking the environment for potential dangers. Prone to anger, irritability, and mood swings — a function of constant nervous system activation to be prepared to fend off danger. Also an adaptive mechanism to ensure our survival in an environment that’s proven to be unsafe. Anxiety and fears — resulting from hyper vigilance that is also a trauma adaptation to protect us — a bias in interpreting stimuli as threatening. Survival of the anxious. You would have to be crazy not to be anxious, fearful, and hyper-vigilant when you’re unsafe. Guilt, shame, and self-blame — this is a result of cultural and religious conditioning that’s been effectively selling women on their inherent worthlessness for 1000s of years (cite research). Depression symptoms (prone to withdrawing from others, feeling sad or hopeless, feeling disconnected or numb) — you would have to be crazy NOT to be depressed when you’re oppressed. If you’re not depressed, you’re delusional or, if you prefer, in denial. The second part of my great aha was — trauma is trauma. The same tools work for all kinds of trauma. The reason my clients’ lives were transforming and I still “couldn’t help myself” was because I was working with them using trauma resolution tools. And with these two powerful aha’s my transformation began.   The inner jail of PSD In this episode, I invite you on your journey of transformation -- that involves a jailbreak. First, I show you the walls and the bars of the inner jail that is Patriarchy Stress Disorder™ (PSD) that we're all born into. Its walls are constructed of the trauma of 1000s years of oppression that has been passed down to us from our mothers, grandmothers, and great great great grandmothers galore through our DNA. Its bars are all the ways in which PSD expresses in our health, relationships, career, business, finances, confidence, wellbeing, etc. -- holding us back from our ultimate happiness and success, standing in the way of us truly having it all. The problem is that both the walls and the bars are invisible. The walls just feel like a normal part of our environment -- it's just the way things are. If we've never experienced life outside of the PSD prison we were born into, we don't have a different experience, a reference point for true inner freedom. We feel restricted, squashed, repressed, stressed, but we don't know why. Heeding advice of self-help gurus, life coaches, and motivational speakers, we "take responsibility" for our lack of inner freedom aka blame ourselves on the account that we "hold ourselves back," don't "play big" enough, have difficulty with "daring greatly," or self-sabotage when trying our best to "lean in" and "thrive." The bars -- we were all sold explanations for the issues we're facing in health, relationships, career, business, finances, confidence, wellbeing, etc. — that came with a long and costly road of medical and psychological treatments, "personal growth," and "self-improvement." This road is costly not just in terms of time and money. It's costly in that it avoids addressing the real issue -- the trauma that imprisons us -- thus furthering the patriarchal agenda of having us believe: “Something is wrong with me and I need to fix it." After all, our economy revolves on making women feel terrible about themselves.   The jail bars: How PSD affects women We have an online community of PSD jailbreakers. I'd love for you to join us. I've been having conversations with these amazing women about how PSD affects them. This is what I call "the bars" of the PSD jail. Here are a few that they've shared. Maybe you'll recognize yourself in them. I certainly did: *I'm still discovering the extent to which this affects me. It definitely shows up, everywhere! In self-sabotage - whenever I get healthier and fitter, I injure myself or get sick... In business, through lack of consistency... etc. *It has caused me to repress my sexual flow. It has caused me to devalue my feminine powers and attributes. *Health through burn out and adrenal fatigue. Fight or flight mode after birth. Men not honoring me in the work place. *I think I am afraid to be myself sometimes and not trust in my abilities to be fully myself. *After working in a patriarchal, male dominated environment, developing severe Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. *Having to deal with modes of behavior that are set up for men, but don’t work for women. *I’ve been in a male dominated technology field for about 25 years. I work with young women to try to get them interested in technology but they seem to be much more interested in traditional gender roles than my generation. It’s frustrating. *In feeling like I need to do more and am not enough. *My ex/child’s dad is very patriarchal and always discounting me to my daughter and I am always looking for ways to overcome to stress of it and to teach my daughter to see it for what it is, and not be “auto-effected” by the patriarchy. *I don't always know how to deal with mansplainers. I come across them often in my work. *Playing small, stress when in groups with males at work, physical anxiety around groups of men, not being recognized for the hard work I am doin. *Probably on every level - I had to train myself to think like a man! *Working in Tech: Communicating scientific facts to hostile male audiences. Fun! Yay!   In the forthcoming episodes, I'll unpack each of the PSD jail bars more fully -- how it affects our health, relationships, career, business, finances, our self-esteem, self-care, wellbeing, parenting, etc. -- the biology and psychology of it. Please share in the comments below or in our Facebook community how PSD affects you, so I can weave answers to your questions into these revolutionary materials and bring you maximum value in the forthcoming episodes.   Your jailbreak Next, you need a jailbreak plan. I will be unpacking the plan week after week, episode by episode. (Make sure to subscribe here or in your favorite podcast app not to miss it and join my community of PSD jailbreakers -- it's free.) But if you're impatient like me, you feel you've already waited too long to reclaim your inner freedom and your ultimate success and happiness -- and you're ready for your jailbreak NOW, I invite you to apply for a 1:1 PSD Jailbreak Strategy Session with me personally at no monetary cost to you. It will cost you time and it may cost you your old jailed life. What I bring to the table is over 20,000 hours of experience as a therapist specializing in holistic (mind-body-spirit) trauma resolution. I’ve spent over 14 years helping my clients plan and execute their jailbreaks. That's thousands of women who freed themselves from the prison of trauma (PSD being just one of the trauma varieties) where they were holding themselves back to feel safe — to boldly stepping out professionally and personally, claiming their gorgeousness, dodging clothes that served as their "invisibility cloaks" for bright colors, sexy silhouettes, and fabulous shoes, finding their soulmates, skyrocketing their incomes, their life, work, and relationship satisfaction. That's hundreds of relationships that broke out of the trauma prison (yes, women and men are traumatized by patriarchy differently, with other kinds of trauma typically in the mix), transformed from suffering to thriving, from a lack of connection to deep intimacy, from emotional and physical affection deprivation to avalanches of toe-curling orgasms and deep fulfillment found in their togetherness. I can go on and on. But the thing that really matters here is — what’s waiting for YOU on the other side of the PSD prison walls? As you're contemplating if this session is worth your while, here're some FAQs you may find useful: Q: What happens in the Jailbreak Strategy Session? A: We'll identify the walls and the bars -- the way they uniquely manifest in your life. Q: What is the goal of the session? A: To make the invisible factors that are affecting you visible. So that with this knowledge, things FINALLY make sense. You will breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the issues you've been working so hard to "fix" yourself around are not your fault. We also outline a "jailbreak" strategy for breaking out of the PSD prison (aka resolving this trauma on the levels of the mind, body, spirit, and energy). Q: Will you be selling me something? If in the course of our conversation you discover that you’d like to work more closely with me on your PSD jailbreak and claiming your ultimate success and happiness, just let me know. I’ll be honored to share with you the opportunities I currently offer to have me on your team as your guide and mission support. Now I have a few questions for you -- to see if a PSD Jailbreak Strategy Session is right for you at this time. Because time is our most valuable resource, and I’m a big believer in maximizing a return on any investment, I only offer these sessions to women, men, and couples who stand to benefit the most. So that at the end of our session, you and I both feel that the return on the investment of time would be at least 10x in at least one area — psychical or mental health, relationship, career, business, or money. Sounds good? Then go ahead and apply for your jailbreak strategy now. Each week, I have only 3 slots and they fill on a first come first served basis. If you feel you've waited long enough to reclaim true inner freedom, success, and happiness, please don't wait any longer. I look forward to reading your application and devising your genius jailbreak plan soon.   Remember: In the world where it's never been safe for a woman to be visible, her success is a revolutionary act. Thank you for being her success revolutionary. Please share these revolutionary materials with your sisters and brothers who love us.   With love and appreciation,   xx   Dr. Valerie

TrueOS becoming a downstream fork with Trident, our BSDCan 2018 recap, HardenedBSD Foundation founding efforts, VPN with OpenIKED on OpenBSD, FreeBSD on a System76 Galago Pro, and hardware accelerated crypto on Octeons. ##Headlines## TrueOS to Focus on Core Operating System The TrueOS Project has some big plans in the works, and we want to take a minute and share them with you. Many have come to know TrueOS as the “graphical FreeBSD” that makes things easy for newcomers to the BSDs. Today we’re announcing that TrueOS is shifting our focus a bit to become a cutting-edge operating system that keeps all of the stability that you know and love from ZFS (OpenZFS) and FreeBSD, and adds additional features to create a fresh, innovative operating system. Our goal is to create a core-centric operating system that is modular, functional, and perfect for do-it-yourselfers and advanced users alike. TrueOS will become a downstream fork that will build on FreeBSD by integrating new software technologies like OpenRC and LibreSSL. Work has already begun which allows TrueOS to be used as a base platform for other projects, including JSON-based manifests, integrated Poudriere / pkg tools and much more. We’re planning on a six month release cycle to keep development moving and fresh, allowing us to bring you hot new features to ZFS, bhyve and related tools in a timely manner. This makes TrueOS the perfect fit to serve as the basis for building other distributions. Some of you are probably asking yourselves “But what if I want to have a graphical desktop?” Don’t worry! We’re making sure that everyone who knows and loves the legacy desktop version of TrueOS will be able to continue using a FreeBSD-based, graphical operating system in the future. For instance, if you want to add KDE, just use sudo pkg install kde and voila! You have your new shiny desktop. Easy right? This allows us to get back to our roots of being a desktop agnostic operating system. If you want to add a new desktop environment, you get to pick the one that best suits your use. We know that some of you will still be looking for an out-of-the-box solution similar to legacy PC-BSD and TrueOS. We’re happy to announce that Project Trident will take over graphical FreeBSD development going forward. Not much is going to change in that regard other than a new name! You’ll still have Lumina Desktop as a lightweight and feature-rich desktop environment and tons of utilities from the legacy TrueOS toolchain like sysadm and AppCafe. There will be migration paths available for those that would like to move to other FreeBSD-based distributions like Project Trident or GhostBSD. We look forward to this new chapter for TrueOS and hope you will give the new edition a spin! Tell us what you think about the new changes by leaving us a comment. Don’t forget you can ask us questions on our Twitter and be a part of our community by joining the new TrueOS Forums when they go live in about a week. Thanks for being a loyal fan of TrueOS. ###Project Trident FAQ Q: Why did you pick the name “Project Trident”? A: We were looking for a name that was unique, yet would still relate to the BSD community. Since Beastie (the FreeBSD mascot) is always pictured with a trident, it felt like that would be a great name. Q: Where can users go for technical support? A: At the moment, Project Trident will continue sharing the TrueOS community forums and Telegram channels. We are currently evaluating dedicated options for support channels in the future. Q: Can I help contribute to the project? A: We are always looking for developers who want to join the project. If you’re not a developer you can still help, as a community project we will be more reliant on contributions from the community in the form of how-to guides and other user-centric documentation and support systems. Q: How is the project supported financially? A: Project Trident is sponsored by the community, from both individuals and corporations. iXsystems has stepped up as the first enterprise-level sponsor of the project, and has been instrumental in getting Project Trident up and running. Please visit the Sponsors page to see all the current sponsors. Q: How can I help support the project financially? A: Several methods exist, from one time or recurring donations via Paypal to limited time swag t-shirt campaigns during the year. We are also looking into more alternative methods of support, so please visit the Sponsors page to see all the current methods of sponsorship. Q: Will there be any transparency of the financial donations and expenditures? A: Yes, we will be totally open with how much money comes into the project and what it is spent on. Due to concerns of privacy, we will not identify individuals and their donation amounts unless they specifically request to be identified. We will release a monthly overview in/out ledger, so that community members can see where their money is going. Relationship with TrueOS Project Trident does have very close ties to the TrueOS project, since most of the original Project Trident developers were once part of the TrueOS project before it became a distribution platform. For users of the TrueOS desktop, we have some additional questions and answers below. Q: Do we need to be at a certain TrueOS install level/release to upgrade? A: As long as you have a TrueOS system which has been updated to at least the 18.03 release you should be able to just perform a system update to be automatically upgraded to Project Trident. Q: Which members moved from TrueOS to Project Trident? A: Project Trident is being led by prior members of the TrueOS desktop team. Ken and JT (development), Tim (documentation) and Rod (Community/Support). Since Project Trident is a community-first project, we look forward to working with new members of the team. iXsystems ###BSDCan BSDCan finished Saturday last week It started with the GoatBoF on Tuesday at the Royal Oak Pub, where people had a chance to meet and greet. Benedict could not attend due to an all-day FreeBSD Foundation meeting and and even FreeBSD Journal Editorial Board meeting. The FreeBSD devsummit was held the next two days in parallel to the tutorials. Gordon Tetlow, who organized the devsummit, opened the devsummit. Deb Goodkin from the FreeBSD Foundation gave the first talk with a Foundation update, highlighting current and future efforts. Li-Wen Hsu is now employed by the Foundation to assist in QA work (Jenkins, CI/CD) and Gordon Tetlow has a part-time contract to help secteam as their secretary. Next, the FreeBSD core team (among them Allan and Benedict) gave a talk about what has happened this last term. With a core election currently running, some of these items will carry over to the next core team, but there were also some finished ones like the FCP process and FreeBSD members initiative. People in the audience asked questions on various topics of interest. After the coffee break, the release engineering team gave a talk about their efforts in terms of making releases happen in time and good quality. Benedict had to give his Ansible tutorial in the afternoon, which had roughly 15 people attending. Most of them beginners, we could get some good discussions going and I also learned a few new tricks. The overall feedback was positive and one even asked what I’m going to teach next year. The second day of the FreeBSD devsummit began with Gordon Tetlow giving an insight into the FreeBSD Security team (aka secteam). He gave a overview of secteam members and responsibilities, explaining the process based on a long past advisory. Developers were encouraged to help out secteam. NDAs and proper disclosure of vulnerabilities were also discussed, and the audience had some feedback and questions. When the coffee break was over, the FreeBSD 12.0 planning session happened. A Google doc served as a collaborative way of gathering features and things left to do. People signed up for it or were volunteered. Some features won’t make it into 12.0 as they are not 100% ready for prime time and need a few more rounds of testing and bugfixing. Still, 12.0 will have some compelling features. A 360° group picture was taken after lunch, and then people split up into the working groups for the afternoon or started hacking in the UofO Henderson residence. Benedict and Allan both attended the OpenZFS working group, lead by Matt Ahrens. He presented the completed and outstanding work in FreeBSD, without spoiling too much of the ZFS presentations of various people that happened later at the conference. Benedict joined the boot code session a bit late (hallway track is the reason) when most things seem to have already been discussed. Setting up this organization will allow future donations to be tax deductible. We’ve made progress and would like to share with you the current state of affairs. We have identified, sent invitations out, and received acceptance letters from six people who will serve on the HardenedBSD Foundation Board of Directors. You can find their bios below. In the latter half of June 2018 or the beginning half of July 2018, we will meet for the first time as a board and formally begin the process of creating the documentation needed to submit to the local, state, and federal tax services. Here’s a brief introduction to those who will serve on the board: W. Dean Freeman (Advisor): Dean has ten years of professional experience with deploying and security Unix and networking systems, including assessing systems security for government certification and assessing the efficacy of security products. He was introduced to Unix via FreeBSD 2.2.8 on an ISP shell account as a teenager. Formerly, he was the Snort port maintainer for FreeBSD while working in the Sourcefire VRT, and has contributed entropy-related patches to the FreeBSD and HardenedBSD projects – a topic on which he presented at vBSDCon 2017. Ben La Monica (Advisor): Ben is a Senior Technology Manager of Software Engineering at Morningstar, Inc and has been developing software for over 15 years in a variety of languages. He advocates open source software and enjoys tinkering with electronics and home automation. George Saylor (Advisor): George is a Technical Directory at G2, Inc. Mr. Saylor has over 28 years of information systems and security experience in a broad range of disciplines. His core focus areas are automation and standards in the event correlation space as well as penetration and exploitation of computer systems. Mr Saylor was also a co-founder of the OpenSCAP project. Virginia Suydan (Accountant and general administrator): Accountant and general administrator for the HardenedBSD Foundation. She has worked with Shawn Webb for tax and accounting purposes for over six years. Shawn Webb (Director): Co-founder of HardenedBSD and all-around infosec wonk. He has worked and played in the infosec industry, doing both offensive and defensive research, for around fifteen years. He loves open source technologies and likes to frustrate the bad guys. Ben Welch (Advisor): Ben is currently a Security Engineer at G2, Inc. He graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology with a Bachelors in Information Assurance and Security. Ben likes long walks, beaches, candlelight dinners, and attending various conferences like BSides and ShmooCon. ###Your own VPN with OpenIKED & OpenBSD Remote connectivity to your home network is something I think a lot of people find desirable. Over the years, I’ve just established an SSH tunnel and use it as a SOCKS proxy, sending my traffic through that. It’s a nice solution for a “poor man’s VPN”, but it can be a bit clunky, and it’s not great having to expose SSH to the world, even if you make sure to lock everything down I set out the other day to finally do it properly. I’d come across this great post by Gordon Turner: OpenBSD 6.2 VPN Endpoint for iOS and macOS Whilst it was exactly what I was looking for, it outlined how to set up an L2TP VPN. Really, I wanted IKEv2 for performance and security reasons (I won’t elaborate on this here, if you’re curious about the differences, there’s a lot of content out on the web explaining this). The client systems I’d be using have native support for IKEv2 (iOS, macOS, other BSD systems). But, I couldn’t find any tutorials in the same vein. So, let’s get stuck in! A quick note ✍️ This guide will walk through the set up of an IKEv2 VPN using OpenIKED on OpenBSD. It will detail a “road warrior” configuration, and use a PSK (pre-shared-key) for authentication. I’m sure it can be easily adapted to work on any other platforms that OpenIKED is available on, but keep in mind my steps are specifically for OpenBSD. Server Configuration As with all my home infrastructure, I crafted this set-up declaratively. So, I had the deployment of the VM setup in Terraform (deployed on my private Triton cluster), and wrote the configuration in Ansible, then tied them together using radekg/terraform-provisioner-ansible. One of the reasons I love Ansible is that its syntax is very simplistic, yet expressive. As such, I feel it fits very well into explaining these steps with snippets of the playbook I wrote. I’ll link the full playbook a bit further down for those interested. See the full article for the information on: sysctl parameters The naughty list (optional) Configure the VPN network interface Configure the firewall Configure the iked service Gateway configuration Client configuration Troubleshooting DigitalOcean ###FreeBSD on a System76 Galago Pro Hey all, It’s been a while since I last posted but I thought I would hammer something out here. My most recent purchase was a System76 Galago Pro. I thought, afer playing with POP! OS a bit, is there any reason I couldn’t get BSD on this thing. Turns out the answer is no, no there isnt and it works pretty decently. To get some accounting stuff out of the way I tested this all on FreeBSD Head and 11.1, and all of it is valid as of May 10, 2018. Head is a fast moving target so some of this is only bound to improve. The hardware Intel Core i5 Gen 8 UHD Graphics 620 16 GB DDR4 Ram RTL8411B PCI Express Card Reader RTL8111 Gigabit ethernet controller Intel HD Audio Samsung SSD 960 PRO 512GB NVMe The caveats There are a few things that I cant seem to make work straight out of the box, and that is the SD Card reader, the backlight, and the audio is a bit finicky. Also the trackpad doesn’t respond to two finger scrolling. The wiki is mostly up to date, there are a few edits that need to be made still but there is a bug where I cant register an account yet so I haven’t made all the changes. Processor It works like any other Intel processor. Pstates and throttling work. Graphics The boot menu sets itself to what looks like 1024x768, but works as you expect in a tiny window. The text console does the full 3200x1800 resolution, but the text is ultra tiny. There isnt a font for the console that covers hidpi screens yet. As for X Windows it requres the drm-kmod-next package. Once installed follow the directions from the package and it works with almost no fuss. I have it running on X with full intel acceleration, but it is running at it’s full 3200x1800 resolution, to scale that down just do xrandr --output eDP-1 --scale 0.5x0.5 it will blow it up to roughly 200%. Due to limitations with X windows and hidpi it is harder to get more granular. Intel Wireless 8265 The wireless uses the iwm module, as of right now it does not seem to automagically load right now. Adding iwm_load=“YES” will cause the module to load on boot and kldload iwm Battery I seem to be getting about 5 hours out of the battery, but everything reports out of the box as expected. I could get more by throttling the CPU down speed wise. Overall impression It is a pretty decent experience. While not as polished as a Thinkpad there is a lot of potential with a bit of work and polishing. The laptop itself is not bad, the keyboard is responsive. The build quality is pretty solid. My only real complaint is the trackpad is stiff to click and sort of tiny. They seem to be a bit indifferent to non linux OSes running on the gear but that isnt anything new. I wont have any problems using it and is enough that when I work through this laptop, but I’m not sure at this stage if my next machine will be a System76 laptop, but they have impressed me enough to put them in the running when I go to look for my next portable machine but it hasn’t yet replaced the hole left in my heart by lenovo messing with the thinkpad. ###Hardware accelerated AES/HMAC-SHA on octeons In this commit, visa@ submitted code (disabled for now) to use built-in acceleration on octeon CPUs, much like AESNI for x86s. I decided to test tcpbench(1) and IPsec, before and after updating and enabling the octcrypto(4) driver. I didn't capture detailed perf stats from before the update, I had heard someone say that Edgerouter Lite boxes would only do some 6MBit/s over ipsec, so I set up a really simple ipsec.conf with ike esp from A to B leading to a policy of esp tunnel from A to B spi 0xdeadbeef auth hmac-sha2-256 enc aes going from one ERL to another (I collect octeons, so I have a bunch to test with) and let tcpbench run for a while on it. My numbers hovered around 7Mbit/s, which coincided with what I've heard, and also that most of the CPU gets used while doing it. Then I edited /sys/arch/octeon/conf/GENERIC, removed the # from octcrypto0 at mainbus0 and recompiled. Booted into the new kernel and got a octcrypto0 line in dmesg, and it was time to rock the ipsec tunnel again. The crypto algorithm and HMAC used by default on ipsec coincides nicely with the list of accelerated functions provided by the driver. Before we get to tunnel traffic numbers, just one quick look at what systat pigs says while the ipsec is running at full steam: PID USER NAME CPU 20 40 60 80 100 58917 root crypto 52.25 ################# 42636 root softnet 42.48 ############## (idle) 29.74 ######### 1059 root tcpbench 24.22 ####### 67777 root crynlk 19.58 ###### So this indicates that the load from doing ipsec and generating the traffic is somewhat nicely evened out over the two cores in the Edgerouter, and there's even some CPU left unused, which means I can actually ssh into it and have it usable. I have had it running for almost 2 days now, moving some 2.1TB over the tunnel. Now for the new and improved performance numbers: 204452123 4740752 37.402 100.00% Conn: 1 Mbps: 37.402 Peak Mbps: 58.870 Avg Mbps: 37.402 204453149 4692968 36.628 100.00% Conn: 1 Mbps: 36.628 Peak Mbps: 58.870 Avg Mbps: 36.628 204454167 5405552 42.480 100.00% Conn: 1 Mbps: 42.480 Peak Mbps: 58.870 Avg Mbps: 42.480 204455188 5202496 40.804 100.00% Conn: 1 Mbps: 40.804 Peak Mbps: 58.870 Avg Mbps: 40.804 204456194 5062208 40.256 100.00% Conn: 1 Mbps: 40.256 Peak Mbps: 58.870 Avg Mbps: 40.256 The tcpbench numbers fluctuate up and down a bit, but the output is nice enough to actually keep tabs on the peak values. Peaking to 58.8MBit/s! Of course, as you can see, the average is lower but nice anyhow. A manyfold increase in performance, which is good enough in itself, but also moves the throughput from a speed that would make a poor but cheap gateway to something actually useful and decent for many home network speeds. Biggest problem after this gets enabled will be that my options to buy cheap used ERLs diminish. ##Beastie Bits Using FreeBSD Text Dumps llvm’s lld now the default linker for amd64 on FreeBSD Author Discoverability Pledge and Unveil in OpenBSD {pdf} EuroBSDCon 2018 CFP Closes June 17, hurry up and get your submissions in Just want to attend, but need help getting to the conference? I back them up with research. A war between Israel and probably ALL of the Middle East will happen, not just bordering Arab states like Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. Israel will CONTROL the East Bank of Jordan ... also, the Arab nations of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, and others. In the last podcast we discussed how God draws Russia and Iran to attack Israel ... and WHY this battle will be different than the Battle of Armageddon. We discussed that Israel will be positioned into a force of prosperity and power: an international "sign" to the nations! You might wonder HOW ths will happen if you’ve been keeping up with the news this week.    PM Olmert is acting against national interest and is positioning Israel in great danger.        The Syrian foreign minister has said that PM Olmert agreed to cede the entire Golan and pull back to the pre-1967 war lines. This is land that was not only WON by the blood of Israelis ... but was PROMISED by G-d to Israelis!        Olmert is NOT of sufficient mental freedom at this time, due to his own corruption scandal to negotiate anything of importance in Israel’s name ... especially a peace treaty with enemies and liars (who will never keep a treaty).        Due to political realignment in Lebanon,  Hizballah’s armed militia now has the right to stockpile their own weapons armory.        Plus, Syria is not so much worried about Israel’s ground movements or armor. Syria is now trying to purchase  missile, air and navy weapons to gain strategic superiority over Israel:  Iskander-E missiles, MigG29SMT fighter-bombers and Amur-class submarines.        Syria and Iran both  support these two: Hizbullah and Hamas. But ... I have GOOD NEWS for you.A war between Israel and probably ALL of the Middle East will happen, not just bordering Arab states like Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. In Isaiah Chapter 11, verses 12-16 we read a description of a war that will happen BEFORE Messiah comes to earth again (the second time). The first 11 verses tell us about Messiah's return and his rule of peace on earth. Verses 12-16 cannot happen during this time because Messiah's reign is characterized by peace. Another distinctive feature of the prophecy in verses 12-16 is that the war therein described has not happened historicallyThis position of prosperity and power will be part of the "hook" in the jaw that God uses to draw the powers from the north (Russian and her allies) to wage war against Israel. Israel will "fly down upon the shoulder of the Philistines (the Palestinians) to the west". In context Israel will strike against Egypt and Iraq (Assyria) and "plunder the people of the East". Israel will CONTROL these nations, and evidently, their WEALTH as a result of the plundering. Lexicographically, the "people of the East" include the Arab nations of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, and others. It is very evident here (in this passage) that Israel will CONTROL the East Bank of Jordan (Ammon, Moab, and Edom). This happened in Joshua's time and has NOT happened SINCE the days of Isaiah. This is a future prophecy that WILL happen! The extreme wealth that Israel will control will be one of the things G-d uses to draw the northern confederacy described in Ezekiel.  (See the TANACH: Ezekiel 38:4-5, 39:2 and Ezekiel 38:10-12.)Notice … it is G-d that  DRAWS the enemy from the north (Russia, and her allies: Iran and others. … He puts "hooks in their jaws and leads them out with their armies." Also, any of the following reasons God might use to draw the northern power(s) at this present time:    Israel's present wealth (its people);        Israel's scientific superiority;        Israel's strategic geo-military positioning;        Israel's previous victories over Islamic / Arabic factions.1. ISRAEL'S PRESENT WEALTH (ITS PEOPLE).In addition to the FUTURE WEALTH that Israel will control, as I described previously, there is also a present wealth of potential in the people of Israel. The following interview of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu by The Jerusalem Post was distributed by Netanyahu's office on or about  Monday May 4th, 1998.Q: "Will there ever be another decade in which a million Jews immigrate to Israel?"A: "It is possible, and I would like to see it come from the West. Israel has just achieved the per capita income of Western Europe, and has more scientists, technicians, technologists - relative to the size of the population - than any other country. This is potentially the source of great wealth, because wealth in the 21st century will be created by conceptual products.Look at the wealthiest man in the world today, Bill Gates. Nobody can count his billions. But what we do know is how much he had 10 years ago: close to zero. [Editor’s note: now 20 years]. This is the greatest multiplication of wealth in history. And what is true of individuals is true of nations, too. Those nations will thrive that have the ability to manipulate knowledge in every field of human endeavor, and I believe that we are very fortunate to have that kind of advantage. Therefore I think that Israel could - fasten your seat belts - be a very wealthy country, and I think that as the standard of living rises, it will begin to attract Jews from the West.It already is attracting Jews from parts of Great Britain that have a lower per capita income than Israel does. I believe it will attract many Jews from South America, and many remaining Jews in Russia who are concentrated in the Moscow area, and who are doing better than they did before, but will do even better here. And I believe that we will see in the next 10 years a much larger immigration of Jews from North America.Clearly, I would like to see all that immigration motivated first and foremost by Zionist ideals. But I also know that the span of this immigration would increase significantly if Israel is transformed, as we are rapidly transforming, into a liberal, free-market economy and society."2. ISRAEL'S SCIENTIFIC SUPERIORITYIsrael has more scientists per capita than Switzerland.3. ISRAEL'S STRATEGIC GEO-MILITARY POSITIONINGWhen I was younger I enjoyed playing the game of "Risk". It is a simulated military game where each opponent utilizes military forces in different geographical confines, and then plans strategy from these bases, as well as from any new conquered positions. I learned after several games that whenever I controlled Israel I always won!Israel is located at a KEY geo-military position. Geographically, it is the land hub of Europe, the Near East, the Far East, the Middle East, and Africa. It is also the place where Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel, will return to earth at His Second Appearance.4. ISRAEL'S PREVIOUS VICTORIES OVER ISLAMIC / ARABIC FACTIONSIn the 1967 "Six Day War" (when Israel was attacked) the victories were of Biblical proportions (and, over the same general enemy). By the end of the war, Israel had conquered enough territory to more than triple the size of the area it controlled, from 8,000 to 26,000 square miles. The victory enabled Israel to unify Jerusalem (See footnote 1). Israeli forces had also captured the Sinai, Golan Heights (See footnote 2), Gaza Strip (See footnote 3) and West Bank (See footnote 4).Israel now ruled more than three-quarters of a million Palestinians, most of whom were hostile to the government. Nevertheless, more than 9,000 Palestinian families were reunited in 1967. Ultimately, more than 60,000 Palestinians were allowed to return (See footnote 5).In the 1973 Yom Kippur War the Jews were attacked on their religious holy day, the Day of Atonement, while fasting. Egypt and Syria launched the Yom Kippur War (See footnote 6) in a coordinated attack that confronted the IAF with its harshest challenge to date. Denied permission for a pre-emptive strike, IAF fighters scrambled off the runways in defense of Israel's skies. They dumped their bombs into the sea ... bombs that might have been able to change the course of the war even before it began. The desperate situation on both fronts did not leave the IAF with the time required to neutralize the enemy's surface-to-air missile (SAM) threats. Indeed, the majority of the IAF's war losses occurred above the heavily defended front lines, while supporting ground forces during the first few days of fighting. Marshaling its forces, the IAF struck back at its ground-based adversary. Israeli fighters and Arab missile sites engaged in mutual bloodletting, like prize fighters slugging it out toe-to-toe.In one operation alone, the IAF lost 6 planes while destroying only one Syrian SAM. On the Western front the IAF destroyed 32 Egyptian SAM sites and damaged 11 more. Phantoms (See footnote 7) brought the war home to the Syrian capital, striking Damascus and other strategic targets. Israel fighters clawed their way toward air superiority, bombing Syrian and Egyptian airfields which, unlike in '67, were now hardened against attack. Most enemy aircraft survived these attacks but IAF fighters still destroyed more than 450 enemy planes, mostly in dogfights. In fact, the IAF's air combat (won-loss) record for 1973 was twice as good as it had been during the 1967 Six Day War (See footnote 8). As a result, the enemy had to concentrate his sorties in defense of his own backyard. Of the few enemy planes which attacked inside Israel, not one succeeded in striking and returning (See footnote 9)!ATTENTION:AGAIN … I AM NOT SAYING THIS WILL HAPPEN … BUT YOU NEED TO REALIZE THAT THE BATTLE(S) DESCRIBED IN EZEKIEL CHAPTERS 38 AND 39 COULD HAPPEN RIGHT NOW … AT THIS TIME! NO OTHER PROPHECIES NEED TO BE FULFILLED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!!COMMENTARY:After Moshe had spent many weeks in the presence of G-d, he came down to the camp and found the people worshiping the golden calf. (Torah, Exodus Chapter 32)In the Torah, Exodus Chapters 32 and 33 we read of the account when Moshe returned to the LORD in the mount to intercede for the children of Israel after they had partied and worshiped the golden calf. Then Moses went back up to be with G-d for 40 days and nights, fasting, writing upon the tables the Covenant, the Ten Commandments. During this time he interceded with G-d for four (4) things:    1. That G-d would spare the children of Israel, and not destroy them.    2. That G-d would forgive the children of Israel their sin and idolatry.    3. That G-d would go before them with His presence on their journey.    4. That G-d would allow Moses the privilege of seeing His glory. As a result of Moshe’s intercession, the LORD turned from His fierce wrath which he had determined to do to the children of Israel, and He gave Moshe a promise. The LORD said “ ... I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation ...”  (Exodus 34:10). The Hebrew word here used for “marvels” is “pala.” It is a primitive root which means “miracles ... real miracles ... wonderful acts.”What Israel needs is a leader who will seek after the face of G-d: one who pays the price to know the will of G-d for Israel at each turn.  A man or woman (like Deborah) that will earn the respect of the Israelis.Israel needs a selfless (SELF LESS) leader who will pray and fast to break the powers of darkness that would destroy Israel at this time. There are many end time prophecies that pertain to Israel ...  I mentioned some today (Ezekiel 38 and 39, Isaiah 11:12-16); however, in any generation there are people ... called of G-d ... who are to pray, fast, and work hand-in-hand with God for the salvation of Israel. Are you one?!For your further study, I have included footnotes in the show notes of this podcast to which you may refer.I trust you have enjoyed this series.
