One Year Bible Podcast: Join Hunter and Heather Barnes on 'The Daily Radio Bible' for a daily 20-minute spiritual journey. Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode, host Hunter walks with us through day 295 of our journey in Scripture. We'll be diving into Job chapters 9 and 10, exploring Job's honest wrestling with suffering and God's justice, and then traveling to the book of Acts, chapters 13 and 14, where Barnabas and Paul boldly proclaim the life-changing message of Christ's grace—a message that meets both miraculous acceptance and real resistance. Hunter encourages us to draw courage from the grace that meets us where we are, reminding us that in a “grace-resistant world,” it's only through Christ's love that our lives are transformed. The episode is filled with heartfelt prayers, reflections on what it means to belong to God's family, and an invitation to keep moving forward together, one step at a time, opening our hearts to the living Word. So take a moment, settle in, and let God's Word direct your heart today. You're loved, you're invited, and you're not alone on this journey. Let's get started! TODAY'S DEVOTION: Living in Grace in a Grace-Resistant World. The beautiful message brought by Barnabas and Paul is God's grace—for all people, Jew and Gentile alike. All are invited, all are included, into the triune life of God. What does that look like in real life? This grace isn't earned by obedience to the law, personal piety, or virtue. It comes simply through Christ and what He has done. Jesus, God's Messiah, has offered Himself on the cross as humanity's answer—an answer to sin and death, an answer that gives us power to live this life today. The Holy Spirit fills us and empowers us. This message of grace has real, transformative power. It has the power to change your life, my life, every human life. But as powerful and good and gracious as this message is, it meets resistance. Other powers, other messages, seek to steer our lives. Often, we find ourselves colluding with those lesser powers, trying to survive in this broken world. But when we do, we survive as slaves—not as sons and daughters. True freedom comes only when we embrace grace, when we truly step into the life Christ offers. In Him, we're set free. Our eyes are opened—to see Him and to know who we are in Him. We're given power, by His Spirit, to live this life now in Him. But don't be fooled; the world resists grace. Paul and Barnabas remind the believers in Acts 14:22, “We must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.” This is a grace-resistant world. But it's only grace—the grace of Christ—that brings true life and transformation. It's only Him. Are you facing resistance? Don't be surprised. Draw courage from the fact that grace has come to you, has found you, has included you. Christ has offered His life for you. So rejoice now! Let this powerful message of Christ's grace meet you, comfort you, and confront every resistant place in your heart, so He can transform you completely, by His love. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. More than 40 thousand people turned out in Portland alone for the No Kings protest, and people turned up en masse in scores of cities and towns throughout Oregon and Washington. They were part of an estimated 2,500 coordinated demonstrations across the country against President Trump’s use of presidential authority, extrajudicial deportations, immigration sweeps and attempts to deploy the National Guard in Democratic cities, including Portland. We’re joined by two organizers for a first hand report of what the protests were like: Isabelle Fleuraud in Burns, and Alan Unell in Vancouver.
On Saturday, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace fans witnessed an absorbing clash at Selhurst Park which has been lauded as the most exciting Premier League clash this season. It had it all - potential red cards, VAR checks, a penalty, a brace for starter Eli Kroupi, and a hattrick for Jean-Philippe Mateta. Cherries went top of the table during the game, but with the Eagles snatching a late draw, Iraola's men ended up in fourth - however, Liverpool's loss at home to Manchester United on the Sunday subsequently elevated Boscombe to third - what a rollercoaster! I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 17th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Acts 13:25. This is Paul speaking and he says: “And as John (John the Baptist) was finishing his course, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.' Then we confirm it in the Gospel of John 1:19-20: “Now this is the testimony of John, (John the Baptist) when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”We need to be so careful, you and I, that we don't touch God's glory. I remember a beautiful story I read long ago about St. Francis of Assisi, a man who gave up his wealth to live in the countryside, where he rebuilt a small monastery and cared for the poor, the needy, and society's outcasts. One day, some people came to him and said, “There is a young baby in the village who has been born and is severely physically handicapped. Please come and pray for the baby so that God can heal the baby.” Francis said, “No, I can't do that because if I heal that baby you will think it was me and then you will start to worship me. I can't do that. They said, “Please” - the parents were there, they were begging him. Eventually, reluctantly, he came to the village. He saw the little baby in the cot was completely physically handicapped. He laid his hands on the baby and in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Healer, he prayed, “Be healed.” The little baby opened up, started smiling, gurgling, and the people were ecstatic. He was completely restored to normal. They were so overwhelmed by the miracle of God that they did not even notice that Francis of Assisi quietly disappeared. As they turned around to thank him and to admire what God had done through him, he was nowhere to be seen. Today, be careful we do not touch God's glory. Do not draw people to yourself. John the Baptist never did that. Draw people to Jesus Christ!Have a wonderful day,God bless you and goodbye.

In Part 2, we pick up where we left off in Part 1. It was 2010, and seeing that guy with the broken guitar on Risa's next visit to SF was the nail in the coffin, so to speak. She was moving here. One of her friends who already lived here found a spot in The Sunset for her. She packed up a car and drove north with her dad. She didn't necessarily have a plan back then, but Risa and I share how The City just got both of us and hasn't let go. Risa tells the story of how her parents moved to Japan briefly when she was 18. She asked her mom, “So, why did you come back (to California)?” And her mom told her (paraphrasing), “Because you wouldn't be able to do what you're doing there, you wouldn't have the same opportunities.” It further affirmed for Risa her decision to move to San Francisco and pursue art. I ask Risa to catch us up on the last 15 years of her life. Generally speaking, she's been working to find her voice as an artist. She got into letterpress-printing, which she did for more than 10 years. She started a company with a friend and worked there for three years before branching out on her own. Doing so wasn't easy, but in hindsight, it made Risa stronger. She talks about a specific strain of misogyny that presented itself to women printmakers as well as how Risa handled that nonsense. That solo venture started off as a stationery company. She reached back to childhood memories, of a time when she witnessed letters coming to her mom from Japan as well her mom's messages back to her homeland. Risa saw those as lifelines to her mom's people back home, and wanted to preserve those memories and emotions and help others to do the same. Papallama was born. Before we talk about another fun thing Risa is up to, I need to express my newish-found love for 540 Bar on Clement. It's where Risa holds monthly “Drink and Draw” events, and it's quickly become one of my new favorite spots in The City. Risa started her monthly art events at the bar in 2022. The idea came from her letterpress days, when she'd do frequent “Letter-Writing Saturdays.” She told her friend Leejay, one of 540's owners, about it, and they decided to bring that same idea to the bar. Shortly after they hatched the plan, though, Risa's dad passed away. The first drink and draw was a month later, and so many of Risa's friends turned out for her. What started out as every second Thursday of the month now takes place at 540 Bar on the third Thursdays of every month. Risa speaks in a little more detail of the care and intention she puts into her Drink and Draw events. For me, it's an extension of her art as well as her love of community. But it's also just her being a good host. The next Drink and Draw takes place the same day that this podcast drops—October 16, 2025. See ya there! The conversation shifts to Risa talking about taking part in our Every Kinda People show at Mini Bar. And we end the podcast with Risa sharing all the ways to find her, both online and in real life. Follow her on Instagram @risa_iwasaki_culbertson. Her website is risaculbertson.com. Photography by Jeff Hunt

In this powerful episode of We Do This Too Outdoors, host Courtney Williamson sits down with archer and outdoorsman William Alderman, whose passion for bowhunting and archery is matched only by his drive to represent a new face in the outdoor world. William shares how his journey began as a homeschooled kid in Florida, building makeshift bows from palm trees and shoelaces, before discovering his first real bow and diving deep into both the hunting and target archery scenes. From learning through trial and error to competing in ASA events, William opens up about the discipline, humility, and personal growth that come with the sport.Their conversation goes far beyond bows and arrows — it's about faith, family, and finding your purpose outdoors. William reflects on the mental side of archery, the lessons it teaches about patience and perseverance, and what it means to be a Black outdoorsman breaking barriers in the hunting and archery community. Together, he and Courtney talk about the shared mission of showing the next generation that “we do this too” — that the outdoors is for everyone, and that real success isn't about trophies but about balance, faith, and leaving a positive mark on the world. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland now have a fuller picture of the #SquiresGate case in Hilton Head Island after it went viral last week. On today's episode, the gang talks about what it took to get the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office to fire off-duty deputy Master Sgt. Billy Squires after video emerged of him pointing his service weapon at four teenagers in his neighborhood on a Sunday evening while allegedly intoxicated and wearing part of his uniform over his regular clothes. A shocking video depicts the kids begging for their lives and one of them calling out his mom had people across the spectrum and all over the world calling for justice. It took five days for the sheriff's office to terminate Squires even though many of his 11 policy violations were immediately apparent. Mandy, Liz and Eric talk about what it took to pressure the good ole boys into holding one of their own accountable. *Since recording this episode, Live 5 News Reported SLED Chief Mark Keel said, “At this time, there is no evidence to indicate the fire was intentionally set. SLED agents have preliminarily found there is no evidence to support a pre-fire explosion.” Referring to Circuit Judge Diane Goodstein's house fire. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References “Deputy fired for ‘multiple' policy violations, Beaufort County sheriff says” - Live5 WCSC, Updated Oct 4, 2025
