PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Andrew Traucki (THE REEF, BLACK WATER, THE JUNGLE) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey and the making of his latest shark thriller THE REEF: STALKED. From a university student pursuing a science major… to how a chance visit to a film set opened his eyes to filmmaking and completely changed his path… to his love of the survival thriller genre as opposed to fantastical monsters or gorefests… to how much more effective the theater of an audience's mind is when creating fear as opposed to actually showing the audience everything on screen… to the many difficulties that come with filming in the elements/outdoors and the perils that come with shooting scenes in (and under) water… to how savvy audience's have become to visual effects/green screen and why practical locations are pivotal in an effective survival thriller… to the pros and cons of shooting with multiple cameras… Andrew shares the challenging process of making THE REEF: STALKED (currently in select theaters and available to stream on Shudder). Dr. Arwen's office was closed for a private therapy session this week but Andrew and the boys have their own impromptu therapy session together over on-line “critics” who tear down films that they couldn't have possibly seen yet and when filmmakers are given “thank you” credits on IMDB for films they have never even heard of.

I decided to review The Reef: Stalked, the sequel to The Reef, an Australian shark horror film from 2010. I have seen The Reef multiple times, and for a lower-budget shark film, it was well done and had enjoyable shark attacks and a decent cast of characters. After twelve years, the original director Andrew Traucki is back. The sequel is a sequel in name only. You do not have to see The Reef to enjoy this film or understand what is happening in the plot. The plot involves a young woman's sister dying at the film's beginning. And she develops PTSD after that traumatic event. Then, nine months later, she and three of her friends go on a three-day kayaking trip and are soon stalked by a shark. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/collin-sugg/message

We talk about The Scene, the banjos, eco-horror and the 70s idea of "masculinity in crisis"...all of which are sadly still pertinent today. In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve take a look at three new releases... We kick off with the latest Shark Peril movie, THE REEF: STALKED, which features four young women being stalked by a killer shark when they go on a kayaking holiday. Next is the political thriller 18 1/2. Set during the height of the Watergate scandal, this finds a young Whitehouse clerk in deep water when she discovers a tape of the infamous "missing 18 1/2 minutes" of President Nixon's recordings. EXECUTIVE ORDER is another political thriller, this time from Brazil and deals with an abhorrent situation and in today's political climate proves not to be as satirical and absurd as it might have hoped. Our Short Shot is CROOK$, in which two inept women attempt to hold up a convenience store and run into a complication. Click the link to watch this excellent short! Our DTV Throwback is TC2000, a futuristic action movie which stars Billy Blanks, Matthias Hues and Bolo Yeung! Follow the Short Shots TWITTER page, where we will be linking to a short film every day!
