Roger Hodgson The Voice of Supertramp 'Lost Interviews' Episode 7

ROGER HODGSON THE VOICE OF SUPERTRAMP 'THE LOST INTERVIEWS'  Episode 7 Roger Hodgson's inspirational lyrics, enchanting vocals and virtuoso musicianship continue to astound audiences worldwide. Hodgson's distinctive voice and profound musical arrangements have spawned numerous 'Top 40 Hits' for classic rock music legends Supertramp. Some of Roger's most distinguished classics include, “Give a Little Bit,” “The Logical Song,” “Take the Long Way Home,” “Breakfast in America,” “Dreamer,” “School,” “It's Raining Again,” and “Fool's Overture.” After performing to jubilant sold-out audiences worldwide, 'Supertramp's Roger Hodgson' returns to the stage in 2013 on a new global excursion. Roger will be making a rare appearance at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida on Friday, March 22nd and for the first time in the U.S.; Hodgson will be performing with a Rock Symphony Orchestra. After the release of their third studio album, Crime of the Century in 1974, Supertramp quickly captured the attention of music critics and aficionados across the globe. Crime of the Century was a superlative release. The creative writing collaboration of Hodgson and Davies, although contrasting, began a highly successful commercial period for a group comprised of highly esteemed musicians. Roger Hodgson penned; “Dreamer” became Supertramp's first big hit. The album also featured two beautifully composed arrangements by Hodgson entitled ... “Hide in Your Shell” and “If Everyone Was Listening.” Supertramp became a sought-out concert attraction because of their awe-inspiring musical abilities and riveting onstage presence. Their shows often spotlighted a movie projection that displayed the Crime of the Century album cover, an image of two hands clutching jail cell bars while floating in space. The projection synchronized hypnotically with the music above the stage. Subsequent albums … Crisis? What Crisis? (1975) and Even in the Quietest Moments (1977) which produced “Give a Little Bit” (#15 on Billboard's Pop Singles chart). In 1979, Supertramp released what would become their highest selling album, Breakfast in America. The album spawned four U.S. Billboard Hit singles… “The Logical Song” (#6 Hit), “Take the Long Way Home” (#10 Hit), “Goodbye Stranger” (#15 Hit) and “Breakfast in America” (#62 Hit). The album remained on top of the charts worldwide and eventually sold over 20-million copies, becoming one of the biggest selling albums of all-time. Supertramp made an amazingly smooth transition from a progressive rock scheme over album-oriented rock airwaves to mainstream Top 40 radio, and without compromising or sacrificing musical integrity. The bands next album, ironically entitled …Famous Last Words (1982) would be the last featuring vocalist/lyricist/keyboardist and guitarist Roger Hodgson. The album reached #5 on Billboard's Pop Album Charts and was certified Gold. To date ... Supertramp has sold over 60- million albums. Roger Hodgson officially left Supertramp in 1983 to pursue a solo career. In 1987, after his second solo album was released, Hodgson fell and shattered both of his wrists. Doctors said he would never play music again, but his strong faith, positive thinking, self-healing efforts, and physical therapy would prove the medical profession wrong. Within a year and a half, Roger was playing his music once again. Roger Hodgson released three solo albums since leaving Supertramp … In the Eye of the Storm (1984), Hai Hai (1987) and Open the Door (2000). He also released a live album entitled, Rites of Passage (1996). In 2001, Roger was invited to play with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. The band's lineup also featured Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople), Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake, and Palmer), Sheila E., Howard Jones and Mark Rivera. In 2006, Hodgson released his first ever DVD entitled, Take the Long Way Home –Live in Montreal. The solo release achieved platinum status in just seven weeks. The following year, Roger accepted an invitation by Princes William and Harry to perform at the ‘Concert for Diana' in front of an audience of 65,000 people at Wembley Stadium. “Give a Little Bit,” “Dreamer,” “Breakfast in America” and “It's Raining Again” were among Diana's favorite songs. The concert was broadcast in 140 countries around the world. Roger Hodgson's most recent release, “Classics Live” is an incredible collection of his live performances recorded from his '2010 world tour.' There are also 60 unreleased songs that Roger plans to record when the time is right. I had a wonderful opportunity to chat with Roger Hodgson recently before the launch of his worldwide tour. Roger's music continues to inspire and offer hope for people everywhere. His spirituality and positive vibrations were felt throughout our entire conversation. Roger is a true delight.     Support us on PayPal!

In December of 1968, I left home alone for the very first time to go to a Pop Festival in Miami. Technically it was in Hallandale at a horse track. It was an absolutely fabulous three days except for the part where I lost my wallet and I was kind of adopted by a 29-year-old woman in an MG convertible who fed me and took me out to Miami Beach at midnight to go to a club called The Image.. And just like me, I am taking way too long with this post. Getting back to the festival there was such a diverse group of artists who played including Iron Butterfly, Chuck Berry, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, and the Turtles. On the night I lost my wallet, I was in the parking lot looking for my friend's car which I could not find. From the vantage point of the parking lot, I could hear two different groups playing. On one stage which was called the Flower stage in front of the stands, I could hear Iron Butterfly. In my other ear I could hear the Turtles singing Eleanor. It was at this time that I gave up looking for my friend's car and I had decisions to make. One was to panic because I was 17 years old away from home for the first time and had no money because my wallet had disappeared and I had no ride to get back to my friend's house where I was staying. The other decision was which stage was I going to go to. I was actually in the stands when Iron Butterfly took the stage and heard most of their set before I headed out to the parking lot so I decided to go over to the Flying stage and listen to the Turtles. they were absolutely wonderful. great harmonies, very tight band and it was there that I met the wonderful lady who rescued me and took me to Miami Beach to the club and then back to her apartment to spend the night. ( that by the way is yet another story that I will never tell). The next morning after she fixed me breakfast she dropped me back off to the festival and gave me her ticket for the third day since mine was in my wallet that was gone. She also gave me $5 to buy something to drink or eat later. I wonder what happened to her, but I digress this post is about the Turtles.I did not see them in concert again until 1992 when they were part of a radio concert at Coachman Park in Clearwater that included a bunch of different bands. My teenage son TyTyler Crose was with me and anyone who knows him knows his vast knowledge of classic rock and roll. Because of my work and radio and knowing the right people I was able to gain access to the restricted area next to the stage and I took Tyler with me while the two remaining members of the Turtles Howard Kailyn, and Mark Volman We're hanging out and Tyler got to meet them both. What a bunch of people do not know is that Howard and Mark at one time in a break from Turtles fame became Fluorescent Leach and Eddie and were part of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Great evening, lots of great entertainment including the Turtles which brings me to my last paragraph. So, today because I genuinely have no life I was looking at YouTube and I see a video from the 2023 Happy Together tour. They actually were here I believe in May at Ruth Eckerd Hall but because I don't know anything that's happening I missed the show. I am kind of glad I did. As I was watching the video I got to see the Cowsills and then Gary Puckett formally of the Union Gap. As I understand it he is a local resident here in our area now. I then kind of skipped ahead a little bit because I really wanted to see Howard and Mark. They were introduced with great fanfare, except for one thing. No Howard Kailyn. Further research told me that he had retired because of some severe heart problems. I understand we are all getting old as crap. But, oh holy crap, His replacement was the guy that sang for the imaginary group called The Archies. Remember them? And to my shock and horror right in the middle of the set, he decided he was going to sing Sugar Sugar. I am so grateful for experiencing them in the beginning and midway thru. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedailygrateful/message

One of my all-time favorite movies as a child was Anastasia. From the story to the soundtrack, the characters, and the costumes, it was a magical play on what happened to the youngest Romanov daughter, Anastasia. That's why, when I found out the Broadway musical was making its way down to Florida, I jumped at the chance to see it. The musical was playing at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida. Ruth Eckerd Hall is a performing arts hall including all sorts of events, from Broadway musicals like Anastasia to comedy shows and concerts for adults and children. With a bar in the front, VIP rooms, and the England Family Musical Garden, Ruth Eckerd Hall is the perfect venue for a date night, a girl's night, or fun for the entire family. When you walk into the hall, there is a full service bar that includes liquor, wine, and local, import and craft beers. If you are hungry, you can grab pizza, a hot dog, popcorn, soft pretzels, candy, chips, a soda, and water at the many concession stands around the hall. The hall even includes Pre-show Party Packages for $29 per person and a Breakfast Brunch Buffet for $25 a person. The staff was so friendly, and one kind lady even spent her evening taking pictures of guests by the spectacular white Christmas tree. Even parking was easy, and there was not too great of a hassle to get out after the show. Some upcoming must-see shows are The Blue Man Group (February 2 -3), Sarah McLachlan (February 26), Riverdance VIP Add-On (January 17 - January 19), Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit (January 20), John Mellencamp (February 13 - February 15), Dancing With The Stars: Live! (February 18), A Carpenters Tribute (March 19), Steve Miller Band (March 23), Johnny Mathis (March 25), TFO: Harry Potter vs. Star Wars (March 19), On Your Feet! (April 7 - April 8), TFO: Spring in Paris (April 12), Postmodern Jukebox (April 15), Styx 2023 Tour with Don Felder (April 17), Cats (April 23), Steve Martin & Martin Short (April 28).All in all, our "Once Upon a December" experience was magical, and we will most definitely be back.

Richard Martin and I went to New Orleans Thursday via a gambling junket.  It is a pretty neat package and very inexpensive.  For $99.00 we each got a round trip ticket to Biloxi Mississippi, two nights in a very nice hotel.  Also included is transportation to and from the hotel Casino Magic and the airport, and meal tickets for their fabulous buffets for three meals.  Any time you are in the casino you are waited on hand and foot with complimentary drinks ( I wonder why) and Bay St. Louis is only an hour's drive from New Orleans.  We rented a Dodge Stratus for $20.00 per day and drove to New Orleans on Friday.   We drove around the streets and I admired all of the French iron work decorating the battered balconies of the overcrowded upstairs housing.  It looked like something from a movie set.  It is hard to believe people can live so closely crowded together and under such poor conditions.   Parking was just non existent as were things like plants and flowers.  The trees were much like our grandfather oaks here with their gnarled and twisted branches.  The drive from Bay Saint Louis to New Orleans was worth making the whole trip for.  An hour of driving along pristine beaches complete with sand dunes and sea oats on the south side and beautiful homes of every sort of design, but mostly the Victorian I love so much on the north side.   The weather was the kind you would custom order and yet only two people were taking advantage of a nice brisk walk on that entire length of beach.  The shrimp and oyster boats were lined up on the horizon and the sun was like diamonds on the lapping tide.  There were numerous docks, some leading far out into the Gulf, but most were deserted except for the occasional fisherman.  This is the sort of place I could pull off the road and run as far as I could run, gulping in the salty sea air;  running until all I could do is walk and then I would walk until I could walk no more.  What greater reward then but to flop down in the sugar white sand and take in the beauty all around me until the moon would rise up over the water and the stars would pierce through the black velvet sky?   Richard Martin wanted to go shopping at Goodwill and Hudson's (a little discount store) and as always we argued over dressing to look like every other yuppie or showing some sense of individualism.  Fortunately we were able to carry this argument further than before and Richard Martin said that he recognized that he is argumentative and that he really enjoys a battle of wits, provided “it reaches some sort of resolution.”   I take that to mean, as long as I always tell him he is right and he gets the feeling that he won.  He claims that he could be wrong, but I really find that to be no more than lip service based upon past discussions.  I do enjoy arguing and don't take his approach as hard as I did initially.  I admitted to him that I will argue just for fun as long as I am not stressing him out, but that I am not inclined to believe that all issues will have a resolution as many things are just a matter of personal opinion.   We talked about the heavy stuff that we often do whenever we are alone together.  I told him that I believe I am the best thing that will ever happen to him, but if he isn't capable of recognizing that and seizing the opportunity, then perhaps he is not the best thing that has ever happened to me.  He said that he wanted to be cautious because he wants to be sure before jumping into a relationship that could really hurt him.  He said that because he chose to be with me this weekend, his relationship with Zena was pretty much over with.   I don't believe it, but I didn't tell him so.  He'll prove me right or wrong.  When we got back to the room there was a message from the desk saying “Meir Lansky will take care of this” and a message on the phone that sounded like a woman impersonating a male gangster saying”  Meir Lansky will get you for this”.  I thought the person was saying Myra and didn't know what to make of it, but Richard Martin says that Zena has some low life gangster relative named Meir, who is supposed to be as unconscionable as Capone.  It bothers me the way people make Mafia out to be some glamorous society for protecting the ways of their people.  They are nothing but criminals with enough stolen money to stay out of jail.   Richard Martin says he shouldn't have told Donna where he was going and seems to think it was Larry that called and not Zena.  I would like to know why Larry would feel compelled to threaten for Zena's sake when he is the one who keeps telling Richard Martin he should tell her about me rather than continue to lead her on into thinking that she is in a monogamous relationship.  This bothers me too.  If he would lie to her, then what would keep him from lying to me?  I have had it with lying, cheating men.   I've told him twice now, there are only two things that I can't live with.  One is infidelity and the other is him trying to control my family.  I'll tolerate his impositions because most of the things that are a big deal to him are of no consequence either way to me.  I can be the chameleon if that makes him happy, but no one is going to demand that from my family.  He says he would not  cheat on me, once committed, which he warily has not, and that he would not impose himself on my family.  I don't think I am asking a lot, but I do think that for him to do so is giving a lot because it is so in his nature to try and manipulate and control everything and every one around him.   I asked him about what it was like to be a bachelor for as long as he was.  He said it was great and that he never would have changed it of his own volition because it was so nice to call up a woman and have her come spend the night and then he may not see her for a few weeks and he would call someone else who hadn't seen him for a while and they would be so happy to see him that they would have a great time.   This sounds like the life so many men want and I asked what changed his mind to marriage.  He loved Susan but she wouldn't live with him without marriage because of the influence on her daughter.  He didn't want to lose her entirely and agreed to get married because he felt she had left her husband to be with him.  I wonder how much of this was her planning and how much of it was coincidental?  I also don't understand, if this was planned, then why did she bail out?  What was so lacking or so awful that she would go through the last two years in court to divorce him?  I hope to find out before it is too late.  I really want this to work and I can make most anything work, but I don't think I have all of the information yet.   I met Ian Anderson, the lead singer with Jethrow Tull a rock group from my era a couple weeks ago.  He was playing at Ruth Eckerd Hall and is an avid cat person.  He has traveled all over the globe visiting cat refuges and sanctuaries.  He really liked our operation based on a global comparison and I felt good about that.  His favourite cat is the Tigrina and he knows Pat Quillan and her work with those little guys.  He liked Nirvana and had several pictures made with her, and Enya the Cougar and Takoma the Bobcat.  He said we can use his image and his endorsement of us in our advertising if that would help.   I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. If you have any interest in who I really am please start at the beginning of this playlist: http://savethecats.org/   I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story.  My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.    You can help feed the cats at no cost to you using Amazon Smile! Today's Guest: Roger Chiocchi, branding expert, author, Baby Boomer Bust? Order Baby Boomer Bust? by Roger Chiocchi from Amazon.com by clicking on the book cover above! The post-war baby boom is becoming something else, more than half a century later. But is that something else a bust? In his new book, Baby Boomer Bust?—and the title ends in a question mark—Roger Chiocchi (pronounced KEY-o-key) says it may be a problem that the average baby boomer nearing retirement only has $68,000 in a 401k. And no, if you’re looking at the totality of retirement, and not just the first year, that is not much. ROGER CHIOCCHI podcast excerpt: "What we find is that people in the lower and middle end of the spectrum are much more resilient than those at the high end. They're used to living hand-to-mouth, so it becomes not a big deal to them when things get even tougher." Tomorrow, April 15, 2010, I’ll be attending the second day of the Florida Boomer Lifestyle Conference, which will be held in Clearwater at Ruth Eckerd Hall. (By the way, the Florida Boomer Lifestyle Conference is open to the public. You can register online at www.floridaboomerlifestyle.com) It is designed to help us understand how the recession has impacted boomers. I expect to learn what they’re spending money on right now, which messages resonate most with them, and what they want from businesses today. Apparently “deeper senior discounts at Denny’s” is not the correct answer. Joining me today, in advance of his appearance as a guest speaker at the Florida Boomer Lifestyle Conference, is Roger Chiocchi, a principal in the Connecticut-based marketing firm Brandloft and author of Baby Boomer Bust?
