Today is a very VULNERABLE (but still hilarious) episode. Stacey shows you songs she wrote that she never thought would be heard by the public, and Kayla lets out some tears she's been bottling up about her kids. A counsellor was definitely needed, but we talk about coping strategies and reasons why Kayla is (literally) panicking about her kids growing up and becoming independant. Stacey breaks down her trip to New York to meet Sarah Bareilles, and it didn't go quite as she expected. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Grammy Award-winning String Instrumentalist and Arranger Rob Moose welcomed Dee Dee and Hanna to his studio to discuss his remarkable musical journey that has included writing and arranging over 400 compositions for artists like Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Sarah Bareilles, Emily King and yMusic. This musical rebel reflected on how he forged a path to bridge the gap between classical and modern genres, and how remaining committed to making music that felt “weird” helped him create such groundbreaking masterpieces.

Welcome back!!! We're so grateful to all of our listeners and to say our thanks, we're back with a NEW SEASON OF A BOOK AND A BEV!! And what a better way to start off than with the heart breaker herself, Colleen Hoover. That's right, very fittingly, we're covering It Starts With Us. We're treating Ellie like the dirty street rat she is by forcing all the feelings down her throat. We discussing Lily & Atlas finally getting their time, squirting out children, then drowning them in breastmilk & Henry Cavill being shirtless… again. There's also an unfortunate mention of a book that discusses having coitus with someone's eye socket and a metal rod being used to do inappropriate things. You're welcome!
. . What does 'being connected with self' actually look like…feel like? It's impossible to describe, as we explore with Sydney in part 2 of this conversation. Whether or not we can describe it, what is true from this conversation is that vulnerability and the willingness to express it with yourself and others is a big step in finding that connection. Once she was willing to be vulnerable with her music it all changed, and her music went to a new level. /// Today, we are with singer/songwriter Sydney Lauren. SYDNEY TELLS STORIES THROUGH HER SONGS. Singer-songwriter Chris Pierce joins Nic this week. His latest album, American Silence, is filled with soulful, stirring songs that stay stuck in your mind and your heart. His music has been praised by NPR Music, Rolling Stone and LA Weekly among other publications, and his songs have appeared on several episodes of the NBC hit, This Is Us. He's also collaborated or shared stages with a variety of artists, including Sarah Bareilles, BB King, Jill Scott, Al Green and so many more over the years. Here, he talks with Nic about getting his start on the cult-favorite '80s kids show "Kids Incorporated" (fellow cast members included Fergie), being a teenage mod, and the hilarious interaction he had with his hero, Bill Withers.
What is a fact? A fact is something that is true. Yet, today we are so conflicted about our facts because we have decided to conflate them with truth. Truth is subjective. What is true to you may not be true to me. You may think The Matrix is the greatest cinematic accomplishment of the 20th century. I may think that award belongs to Schindler's List. What isn't true is that either sentiment is a fact. This is merely an opinion one holds. However, we have the tendency to think of our truths as facts and it can create serious issues connecting with others and navigating conversation. We explore this reality with Sydney in part 1 of our awesome conversation with her. /// Today, we are with singer/songwriter Sydney Lauren. SYDNEY TELLS STORIES THROUGH HER SONGS. About This Episode: Robby Starbuck is a producer and director known for the cinematic style he brought to the music video genre. He has produced over 1,000 projects at his company RSM. Collectively his work has been viewed over 5 billion times. Robby has directed and produced the official music videos for multiple feature films such as Terminator: Genysis, Transformers: The Last Knight and Spongebob. Robby has directed and produced Hollywood stars like Natalie Portman, Jamie Foxx, Brad Pitt, Gina Rodriguez, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel and many more. He's also directed and produced the biggest names in entertainment like Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, Megadeth, The Gaslight Anthem, Smashing Pumpkins, Sarah Bareilles and many more. Robby decided to risk his career by coming out as a proud conservative after seeing the warning signs of socialism in the United States. Being the son of a Cuban refugee inspired his entrance into politics as he reflected on the horrors his family had experienced in Cuba. Those experiences were seared into his mind as a young man by his Mom and Grandparents as they recounted to him how Cuba had been destroyed by leftism. It was all he needed to jump into politics to ensure he stood up and did something to prevent a similar decline for the United States. In 2015 Robby publicly endorsed President Donald J. Trump and began to publicly promote the President's policies that put America First. Needless to say, he was “cancelled” but that just made him get louder. He's been interviewed on President Trump's Facebook Page by Lara Trump, OAN, Bill O'Reilly, Breitbart, Sirius XM, Hugh Hewitt Show and many more. He's written political op-ed's in The Federalist, Orange County Register, LA Times and the Western Journal. He has recently announced his candidacy for Congress in 2022 in a bid to unseat Democrat Jim Cooper of Nashville. He and his wife also host a podcast called GrowUp Live where they talk about political issues and culture, interview culture influencers and political guests like Senator Rand Paul, Congressman Ken Buck, Dinesh D'Souza, Dennis Prager, Former Acting DNI Richard Grenell and many more. Robby announced his congressional run in a speech at CPAC in February 2021. There was something so uniquely beguiling about four year old Mason Reese that Madison Avenue soon realized that this little kid sold product! Soon, young Mason was hawking Dunkin Donuts, Underwood deviled ham, Raison Bran and Kung Fu Adventure Sets. He was then guest hosting with Mike Douglas, interviewing his idols like Leonard Nimoy, dancing with Danny Thomas and driving the Goodyear blimp. To us mortal kids, Mason’s childhood was the stuff of dreams. But how was it for Mason? He is here to tell us. I'm with author and OG Blissdom friend Robin Dance! Robin bares all during our time together--including a season where she considered leaving the church and her faith, the trauma of losing her mom at 9, and how chronic people-pleasing left her feeling like a fake. Robin's vulnerability and transparency in this episode will help us find the life-lines we need during times of doubt and how to let our questions point us back to God. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why taking offense often may be a symptom of something bigger. 2. The time she caught the eye of Harry Conninck Jr. 3. How our doubt can bring us back to God. Favorite quotes: 1. Your doubts could be the very thing He is using to call you back to Him. 2. As a woman of faith, I should be living to please God not anyone else. 3. Where you are today, you will not be here forever. God will use this hard situation and turn it around for your good. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. Can we really learn to stop self-sabotage? (35:40) 2. How do you find joy in life when God isn't answering your prayers? (41:15) 3. How do you know if you are cut out for business? (48:55) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Robin Dance 2. For All Who Wander:Why Knowing God Is Better than Knowing It All 3. Everything Is Yours: How Giving God Your Whole Heart Changes Your Whole Life by Kris Camealy 4. Perversion by Urban Decay 5. Maybe by Nichole Nordeman 6. She Used to Be Mine by Sarah Bareilles 7. Knives Out 8. Place of Freedom by Highlands Worship 9. Fierce Faith 10. The Reason for God Hope you loved this episode! Technical difficulties be damned! Probably much like our souls. What does STD's, abortion, religion and Sarah Bareilles all have in common? We talked about them inside of this episode! Emily was a fantastic guest and gave her hot takes on religion and relationships. The episode was cut short however due to technical difficulties and one of us taking time out to go and see Avengers Endgame. Enjoy Emily and myself as we dive into Christianity's history, as well as some other issues along the way. I might even have an awesome analogy or two inside of this episode.Facebook: facebook.com/barelyqualifiedTwitter: Barely_QInstagram: Barely QualifiedE-mail: Philip@barely-qualified.comHold Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBlFHuCzPgY&t=37s

For the first time in 66 episodes, disaster struck as Edith's original interview with Val and Jon was corrupted. Thankfully, this delightful wife & husband team agreed to do it all over again 24 hours later and boy are we glad they did - so fantastic was their company on both occasions. Val and Jon cut their teeth making music videos, working with the likes of Jane's Addiction, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins. They moved into feature films with the wonderful Little Miss Sunshine, which was scored by Davotchka and Mychael Danna and showcased tunes by Sufjan Stevens and Rick James. Their latest offering is Battle Of The Sexes. Starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell, the plot is loosely based on the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. As well as including tracks from Elton John, Tommy James & The Shondells and a Sarah Bareilles original - the movie is scored by our old friend Nicholas Britell. You'll hear examples of all of these artists during the conversation.
For this episode, Dennis ventured to the North Hollywood home studio of singer-songwriter Matt Zarley for a listening party of Matt's new CD "The Estrogen Sessions." The albums named that because the songs were all made famous by female artists like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Des'ree, Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Sarah Bareilles, Pink, Oleda Adams, Janet Jackson, Monica and India Arie. As the songs play, Matt talks about why he chose the song, his duet partners Jeb Havens and Billy Porter and Dennis takes him off on lots of tangents, too. www.mattzarley.com

Solo Rant. Lots of yelling.Warning: If you are in love with 0bama DO NOT listen to this show and start whining. Just continue shunning us, we love that.Maybe it was the guy who shot the TV at Bristol Palin over Dancing with the Stars who Twittered TLM last night. He tried to school me and let me know my place. I'm certainly not as smart as he is if I don't recognize what a “MASTER of Intellect and Genius” 0bama is. Interesting choice of words, Master. Surely, I must not be as much of a GENIUS as said Twitterer because I don't senselessly Palin-bash and can have a completely objective conversation about her. In fact, I find people who can't, embarrassing. Certainly Palin is not a even a human being and deserves to be scorned because… well, basically she should just die, of course. Silly me, I should know these intellectually superior things.PS – Recovering from a bad case of bronchitis, please excuse.Music: King of Anything by Sarah Bareilles http://is.gd/hZJAH
