Music lovers in Germany, Poland, England, Sweden, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Australia and the United States have heard his brilliant sound over the airwaves of national television. Allen's status as an artist has led to solo performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Newport Jazz Festival, Banff Center for the Performing Arts, Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Teton, Vail, Aspen and Breckenridge Music Festivals, the Charles Ives Center, Suntory Hall & Opera City Hall in Tokyo and Lincoln Center in New York City. From his home in Seattle Washington, Allen's current career activities embody an impressive schedule of recitals, concerts, recording and composing. His continued commitment to music education and the value of music in everyday life results in an extensive schedule of guest appearances throughout North America, South America, Europe, Japan, Australia, Asia and New Zealand. Allen's many recordings include “Ritzville” featuring Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke,(available at www. vizzutti.com and on iTunes). Other solo jazz recordings include “Trumpet Summit” and “Skyrocket” from Summit Records. Classical recordings currently available (DeHaske Classical Recordings), are “The Emerald Concerto and Other Gems”, with the Budapest Radio Orchestra, “Vizzutti Plays Vizzutti” and “Vizzutti and Soli On Tour”. His “High Class Brass”, (on iTunes), is a wonderfully unique classical and jazz blend co-produced, co-written and performed with fellow trumpet artist, composer and conductor, Jeff Tyzik along with a 90-piece studio orchestra. (on iTunes) Other outstanding Vizzutti recordings are “Baroque and Beyond”, (CBS/Sony), “The Carnival of Venus”, (Summit Records), and “A Trumpeter's Dream, (Ludwig Music Publishing). His extensive treatise, “The Allen Vizzutti Trumpet Method” and his “New Concepts for Trumpet”, (Alfred Music Publishing), have become standards works for trumpet study worldwide. Many more of Allen's jazz and classical books, play along recordings, and student and recital compositions are published by DeHaske/Hal Leonard, BIM Switzerland, and Village Place Music. His writing includes solo pieces for piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, tuba, and harp, chamber groups, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, and symphony orchestra. Allen's love of expression through composition has led to premier performances by the LosAngeles Philharmonic, Budapest Radio Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic of London, the Nuremberg Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Syracuse Symphony, London Symphony, the renowned Summit Brass, the Royal Philharmonic Brass and others. After the world premier of his “Emerald Concerto” with the Syracuse Symphony Allen's writing was described in review: “The Emerald Concerto sparkles!...a vivacious treatment which speaks well for both his dramatic instinct and technical prowess as a composer.” While growing up in Montana, Allen was taught by his father, a self taught musician and trumpet player, until he left home to attend the Eastman School of Music on full scholarship. There he earned the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees, a Performer's Certificate, a chair in the Eastman Brass Quintet faculty ensemble, and the first Artist's Diploma ever awarded a wind player in Eastman's history. Allen has performed on over 150 motion picture sound tracks, (such as Back To The Futureand Star Trek), as well as countless TV shows, commercials and recordings with such artists as Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Chick Corea, the Commodores and Prince. His soaring sound can be heard on recent the movies, “Mirror, Mirror”, “Furry Vengeance”, “40 Days and 40 Nights”, “Unfaithfully Yours”, “Gridiron Gang”, “Scary Movie Four”, “The Hulk” and the “Medal of Honor”, “Gears of War”, “World of Warcraft” ,and “Halo” video games. Bob Barry's Unearthed Interviews

This trumpet-playing musician and bandleader was loved by Milwaukee symphony fans. Doc Severinsen appeared many times with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. And in 2007 he was named Pops Conductor Emeritus in Milwaukee. His father wanted him to play the violin. He wanted to play the trombone, but his arms weren't long enough, so he settled for the trumpet. Doc toured with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey and served in World War II. He became the studio musician for NBC and worked with Steve Allen on the original “Tonight Show.” He left the show for a while, until Tonight Show bandleader Skitch Henderson asked him to return and play trumpet in the band. Five years later he was the leader of the “Tonight Show” band. Doc was known for wearing gaudy clothing, joking with Johnny Carson, and playing “Stump the Band.” Severinsen has recorded many albums and won the Grammy award for best large jazz ensemble performance. In this conversation he discusses his broken marriages, how he got the name Doc and what he thinks of the unauthorized biographies.

Last night, Francisco Álvarez (check out his home run chain) became the first Met to hit a game-tying home run with two outs in the ninth inning of a game since all the way back on May 17, when Francisco Álvarez hit a game-tying home run with two outs in the ninth inning off Jason Adam of the Rays. This is not normal. Before Álvarez in May, the Mets hadn't had a two-out, game-tying homer in the ninth inning of a game since Michael Conforto took Kyle Barraclough deep on September 13, 2018, a blast followed immediately by Todd Frazier's game-winning dinger.Álvarez last night became the first Met to hit a game-tying homer with two outs in the ninth inning on the road since Curtis Granderson off Matt Albers in Washington on July 3, 2017 — a game the Mets then lost in the bottom of the ninth on a Ryan Raburn RBI single.Last time the Mets won a game on the road after one of these special homers? That was September 13, 2015, in Atlanta, when Daniel Murphy hit a three-run shot off Ryan Kelly and the Mets added three in the 10th for a 10-7 shocker. All by himself, Álvarez has done this twice this year. The Mets as a team haven't had a pair of down-to-their-last-regulation-out tying homers since Scott Hairston and Lucas Duda in 2011.That tied the team record for occurrences in one season. The Mets also enjoyed such clutch hitting twice in 1970 (Dave Marshall and Donn Clendenon), 1988 (Howard Johnson and Darryl Strawberry), 1997 (Todd Hundley and Carl Everett), 2000 (Derek Bell and Bubba Trammell), and 2004 (Mike Piazza and Victor Diaz).Individually, Álvarez is now tied for the team career record with Hundley, Marshall, and Piazza. Marshall was not another catcher, but an outfielder whom the Mets acquired after the 1969 season from the Giants, along with Ray Sadecki, for Jim Gosger and Bob Heise. The Mets traded Marshall, who hit a total of 13 home runs for them in 264 games, to the Padres before the 1973 season for Al Severinsen. The Mets assigned Severinsen to Triple-A, but he never pitched professionally again. This is a public episode.

Dr. Stig Severinsen is one such explorer, and his recent conversation with Richard is compelling. Stig learned at an early age as a competitive swimmer that he could hold his breath longer than the other swimmers if he would relax.  This gave him a natural edge against the others, and he's gone on to set many world records over the years. Stig strives to show what's possible. Most people want to realize good health but don't understand the importance of breathing in achieving health goals.  He tells us about the difference between stress breathing and relaxed, optimized breathing. Rigtig god lyttelyst!Find Sanne:https://rumtillivet.dk/@rumtillivet

Snarky Puppy have been delivering the goods for some time. From picking up Grammys to creating the Ground Up Festival, kudos to their futuristic fusion that takes all things soulful, funky and jazzy and turns it on its ear. Like the bands from Miles Davis' electric-era, this group has a hundred flowers blooming in their talent pool. The band boasts members who have taken part in the music of Prince, Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, David Crosby, and Ghost-Note. Known as "The Fam" to friends and fans alike, guitarist Bob Lanzetti gets anything but snarky with us as we discuss the music and more. Speaking of flowers blooming, our next guest needs no introduction as he made his name in the late night talk show game. The Major Scale has been covering the cream of this crop since we started, and we're proud and humbled to present an icon. Easily the godfather to today's Jon Batiste and The Roots, without further delay: HEEEEEEEEEEEERE's DOC!!!!!! "Doc" Severinsen that is, the legendary band leader from The Tonight Show. While Johnny Carson may have been the king of late night, Doc is the king of the music. Night after night he presided over some of the greatest musicians in the world, with trumpet in hand and outrageously bespoke threads on his frame. The NBC peacock logo paled in the light of Doc and a band that included a who's who of greats like Clarke Terry, Shelly Manne, Snooky Young and more. Severinsen joins The Major Scale to shed light on recently discovered recordings from his workshops with Texas high school bands. Recorded in the 1970s, the music is masterful, with epic and cinematic turns, with a backstory that touches the heart. It's perhaps his greatest artistic achievement to date. ABOUT THE MAJOR SCALE: Your attention please to a new program that celebrates and takes a fresh and bold look at the great American art form- JAZZ!!! The Major Scale is the title, the motto and the mission are, Jazz- past, present, future, and everything in between. A lot of focus will be on new and fresh sounds, deep cuts, closer looks at underrated artists, taking a different look at some of the titans of the genre, and getting the two cents worth from a number of surprise guests and sources. The Major Scale can boast amongst it's guests- legends like Herbie Hancock, Tom Scott, and Ahmad Jamal. The up and coming and the underrated-Kamasi Washington, Mia Doi Todd, Michael Blake. Fresh perspectives and commentary from the likes of Rock legend Al Kooper, who weighed in on the gospel. From The New Yorker, Amanda Petrusich expounds on her article about the movement to rename the Williamsburg Bridge in honor of Sonny Rollins. We explore the Soul-Jazz experiments of the Rascals. Grace Kelly from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert talks about her pop-up/flash mob concerts. Plus Thundercat, Henry Mancini, Ghostface Killah, Jaimie Branch, Nels Cline, Badbadnotgood, Cecil Taylor, and more get pick up on the Major Scale radar. Produced in Central Florida, this program seeks to become one of the defining voices of this Native American art form, and everything else that finds itself under it's umbrella. Think about programming and content found on the likes of World Cafe, Philadelphia, PA. Tiny Desk from Washington D.C., and KEXP Live from Seattle, WA. and that's what the Major Scale strives to do. For the curious, and lovers of music who like the details in between. ABOUT KYLE EAGLE (Host): Kyle Eagle has been a contributing writer and producer for the NPR-WBGO, WUCF, WPRK, Wax Poetics, The Orlando Weekly, Artbourne, and The Fiscal Times, as well as several music and film releases- Light in the Attic's documentary "This Is Gary McFarland", and an upcoming film on composer Jack Nietzsche. Recordings- Call Me-Jack Wilson, Live at the Penthouse, Grachan Moncur III, Chico Hamilton, and Andy Bey. ABOUT CHRIS BARANYI (Producer): Chris Baranyi is a sound engineer and music producer. He splits his time between designing AV systems for theme parks and recording music. Chris has worked with many Orlando area musicians with backgrounds in jazz, fusion, hip-hop, funk, new age, and classical. Some of which have been featured on NPR's Echoes. His passion includes jazz, vintage microphones, and hot sauce.

How to Get Organic Leads in the Online World by Craig Severinsen

For this episode, we had Craig Severinsen of Bright Works PR and Marketing join us so that he could tell us all about how he helps his clients get sales through Facebook and LinkedIn. Craig’s business is all about organic growth and leads! He became an entrepreneur after working a 9-5 job and wanting to spend more time at home with his kids. That was his “a-ha” moment, and he decided to start his own PR business. He immediately failed, and it took a while to learn how to get clients for his business. Once he had the success he was looking for, he was getting other entrepreneurs asking him left and right what he was doing to get them, and he quickly transitioned into coaching. When it comes to organic social media growth, a lot of people think that organic reach is dead. Craig shared his expertise around why people are struggling to get leads through social media and how they can use social media to their advantage to get organic business online. It’s all about how you approach it! Organic social media is just one piece of a bigger marketing strategy, and using Facebook or LinkedIn to reach out with your ideal client and have intentional conversations that aren’t just sales conversations. He shares his best advice on how you can have these intentional conversations with your ideal client through social media. It’s all about taking the time to figure out what type of person you want to work with and reaching out after doing your research. Online marketing should be used in the same way as in-person marketing! If you wouldn’t go up to someone in person and immediately pitch your business, you shouldn’t do it online. If you want to be able to grow your business organically, you have to be willing to reach out and make connections! Keep it simple and focus on what matters. Don't let yourself be overwhelmed. - Confucius When we start a business we want to tell everyone what we do and let them know that they need to buy our product or service. It is exciting and we bounce around shouting it from the rooftop. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been hit up from someone I’ve never heard of telling me that I REALLY need to buy what they are selling. They don’t know me, they don’t know what I buy or if anything they are saying will be of interest to me.  You need to make sure that what you are doing in your marketing, is converting to sales, according to today’s guest, Craig Severinsen. He tells us that by being authentic, by sharing with people who you are, what you care about and building relationships, that’s what’s going to grow your business.  It is more important to be true and find clients through authenticity rather than letting the world know you exist. Find the offer that makes sense to a few people and you’ll sell your product/service to more and that saves time, money and effort. Listen in and learn how keeping it simple builds a bigger return. His 90 Day Land More Clients Intensive business accelerator helps participants land more clients quickly using organic social media -- primarily Facebook and LinkedIn – with some making $30,000-100,000 within the first three months alone. The key?A Value-Centered ApproachBase your sales process around a strategic consultation via phone. During that conversation follow these three steps:Find out what is their goal.Find out why they haven’t reached that goal.Present your services as the way to get from where they are to what they want. It’s an approach that is simple and value centered. It also allows you to determine whether this client is a good fit and, even if they’re not, you’ve still provided value in that moment.“Having a process like this in place is essential,” adds Severinsen, “because job security as an entrepreneur is a mixture of retention and bringing on new clients.”Follow Craig Severinsen’s Facebook page for more tips and strategies for growing your agency, and also for updates and deals on his programs. Stu: This week we welcome Stig Severinsen to the show. He is a Danish freediver. He is a four-time world freediving champion and holder of multiple Guinness World Records. He wrote Træk Vejret – mere energi, mindre stress (2009), published in English in 2010 as Breatheology – The Art of Conscious Breathing. Questions we ask in this episode: How can we improve performance with just our breath? Why do most of us panic to breathe after 15 seconds underwater? Can our breathing patterns improve the way we sleep? I’ve heard you talk about being ‘relaxed in an instance’, how can we achieve this? http://180nutrition.com.au/  This week I'm excited to welcome an old friend, Stig Severinsen. Stig is a world free diving champion. He holds multiple Guinness World Records for his aquatic exploits and he's an expert, no surprise, on the art of conscious breathing. In this episode we discuss how he's mastered the art of breathing into a practice that allows us to perform better every single day both physically and mentally and how we can become relaxed in an instant, so great technique. I tried it. It works surprisingly well. He's a great guy. His world record attempt will astound you, so please dial, have a listen. Enough rambling from me. Let's get into the show. Hey guys. This is Stu from 180 Nutrition and I am delighted to welcome Stig Severinsen to the show. Good morning, Stig. Stig 00:01:32 Good morning, sir, and thank you very much. Stu 00:01:34 Thank you so much for joining us. I think first up before we get into the juicy questions, I would love it if you could just tell our listeners a little bit about who you are and what you do. Stig 00:01:46 Well, I'm a very curious person by nature, so to speak. I always loved animals, biology. So even before you got into books and all that, I loved to study nature and catch animals and observe them. So I was kind of born to become a biologist, which I then did 20, 25 odd years later. And then I went into ... Did a PhD study in medicine and so forth, went into more scientific work. But I've always been very curious, and I loved to understand more about the connection between animals, between organs. Now of course with human beings, the organs, the brain, our inner organs, so how can we optimize our health and our performance, sports basically? And how can we use then, what is my big mission in life, breathing techniques to alter to the state of mind? For example, go into the state of flow, into the zone as it's also called. How can we be in a work flow and in a more happy place in life in general? And doing most of that from breathing connected with, of course, positive psychology and the theory of flow. How long can you go without food or water? Every curious kid will eventually want to know. An easy answer can be cribbed from the survival world: The Rule of 3's 3min without air- Death 3hrs in extreme weather with no shelter or warmth- Death 3dys with no water- Death 3wks with no food- Death That's the quick answer. But not everyone's body will follow this timeline. For example, Stig Severinsen of Denmark holds the Guinness World Record for holding a breath under water. 22 minutes. Obviously that's way more than 3. There's no world record for going without food or water. But there is a lot of variation in survival. Hunger strikes can often go over a month, and one striker from India is claimed to have gone 116 days. Bhagat Singh was a revolutionary socialist and while in prison he participated in a hunger strike that was reported to have lasted 116 days. There's no way to know if he had a little help extending the effort, but he did survive it only to be executed in 1931 at the age of 23. Stuff Your Dad Knows is hosted by Ethan Millard.  What do you do when your children hit you up with crazy questions?  Do you know the answer?  Do you just pretend?  Kids are smart, so this podcast empowers parents to answer those tough questions and stay at the top of the family food chain.  If you want to be more efficient, just listen to the podcast with your children present.  Then you don't have to be the information middle man.  Family harmony is our goal!
