Jon Uhler has spent more time working with prisoners in solitary confinement than any other therapist in the country. He has invaluable insight into why sexual offenders commit the crimes they do - and how deeply those crimes affect their victims. Jon is also the host of the podcast, Journey to Healing, and has treated both sex offenders and those who have been victimized by predators. He is additionally an expert on the chilling topics of Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) and the often ensuing dissociative identity disorder (DID), which has sometimes been called multiple personality disorder. Jon explains the decline that occurs in the mind of a predator who chooses to traumatize their victims, how those victims often suffer from DID as a result, and how they can find healing. Jessa had five inappropriate jokes for the title of this episode but refrained from using them.  Instead, we give you a very bland titled episode to a very complicated topic -- whether sexual offenders who have served their sentences should be subject to civil commitment after they conclude their time based on their mental disorder status and likelihood to re-offend.

While there is an ever increasing number of people who have been identified in this #metoo culture for sexual abuse, harassment or gender violence, we rarely hear what happens once they are dismissed or replaced. Do they seek treatment? Is treatment for sexual offenders available and effective? In this episode Steven Sawyer, licensed clinical social worker, co- author of Group Therapy with Sexual Abusers, and president of the Minnesota chapter of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (MNATSA) will draw upon years of treatment experience, research and assessment of hundreds of sexual offenders to clarify the continuum of sexual offenders and the nature and effectiveness of treatment models. He will consider what would unfold in individual treatment and the healing possibilities of group. He will offer case examples, discuss prevention programs, and consider the role that our culture plays in sexual invitation, dominance, inequities and offense.

Tonight's special guest is Don Abernathy of Long Beach, California, who, with his brother David, runs a crime fighting organization called "Cuffed and Wanted." They generate a twice-a-month publication and web site (www.CuffedAndWanted.com) that educates and informs citizens about the people and services in their community, principally the area of Los Angeles County. Included is information on people who have recently been arrested or are currently wanted by city, county, state and federal law enforcement. The public can view daily arrest reports from around the county (about 800 arrests are made each day) and can also view current "wanted" info (they note that about 15% of the registered Sexual Offenders in LA County are in violation of their registration status).  The bi-weekly "Cuffed and Wanted" publication empowers citizens with what is happening around them in their communities and neighborhoods, with an aim to give the community a greater awareness and understanding of what is going on, and knowledge is power. The many current changes in the criminal justice system and their impact on the cities, counties and state, are a concern to everyone. "Cuffed and Wanted" is a valuable publication for all law enforcement agencies and law abiding citizens in the diverse communities.
