The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Three big court decisions affect Texas in different ways.First, the Fifth Circuit has overruled a contempt charge and fine against Texas over its foster care system; more importantly the court has removed activist, biased Judge Janis Jack from the case! This is a huge win for sanity and proper judicial behavior as well as for Texas.Second, the very unreliable Judge Xavier Rodriguez has ruled against more Texas election integrity rules found in SB1. Whether or not the 5th Circuit will put some of this on hold as it has previous rulings from this judge remains to be seen. Rules on voter assistance have existed way before GOP control mostly to protect people from being coerced to vote a certain way by a spouse, employer, or other party with power over themThree, Texas' investigatory law that has been on the books for over a century has been ruled unconstitutional. The ruling is correct in my opinion but complicates the Attorney General's ability to investigate matters such as assisting illegal immigration. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Lubbock County Commissioner Jason Corley tells about finally passing his “game room” regulations this morning but not until the fake Republican county judge, Bowtie Bully Parrish, mucked it up with amendments. Note that it was the two Democrats who opposed it: Precinct 3's Flores and Judge Curtis Parrish. Our great friend, and former sometimes network board operator, Jody Smyers, a great photographer, joins us to talk about watching the historic launch, and catch of the booster, from SpaceX's Starbase in South Texas yesterday. This week, on the 142nd edition of the Black Lincoln Collective Podcast, the unexpected becomes the norm, and the norm is anything but ordinary. We take you on a whirlwind of adventures that span from the mysterious to the downright hilarious. Witness the spectacle of the Aurora Borealis from the southern states, only to be outshone by the unexpected appearance of the Goodyear Blimp. Join the crew as they recount their attempts to chase the elusive northern lights, leading to a comedy of errors that involves midnight drives, a lost shoe's return from the ocean's depths, and the inevitable clash between celestial phenomena and inflatable advertising. But that's just the beginning. Fred shares his beach escapades during an ill-timed Bike Week, and the crew debates the controversial ruling of tacos and burritos as sandwiches. From May 26, 2020: On Wednesday, NASA and the SpaceX Corporation are scheduled to send astronauts back into outer space from U.S. soil for the first time since the U.S. space shuttle program ended in 2011. The launch promises to kick off a new era in space exploration, one that will see the increased use of outer space for both public and private purposes, as well as greater involvement by private corporations and other unconventional actors in space exploration. To discuss the legal and policy challenges of this new era, Scott R. Anderson spoke with three lawyers working at the bleeding edge of space law and policy: Professor Timiebi Aganaba-Jeanty of Arizona State University and its Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law; Brian Israel, a former public and private sector space lawyer who teaches space law at Berkeley Law; and Daniel Porras, currently a space security fellow at the U.N. Institute for Disarmament Research.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/lawfare. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
