At long last, Jeffrey and Andy finish their marathon of of the Mission: Impossible franchise! This episode of Parking Lot Critiques is the final selection of footage believed to be lost until later recovered. It was recorded in late 2018 after a viewing of Mission: Impossible - Fallout at Showplace Cinemas East in Evansville, Indiana—recorded in the parking lot. Fallout is another strong entry to a franchise that has reached its full potential under the influence of writer/director Christopher McQuarrie. Layered with mysteries and revelations, the film makes excellent use of its characters and the wealth of lore accumulated from past Mission: Impossible films. This review is also the first episode of Parking Lot Critiques to be mostly spoiler free ("spoiler light"). --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The Cinemondo gang answers some listener mail and examines the fascinating work of Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo. Definitely a creative force to pay attention to. We discuss the ups and downs and backwards and forwards of his time travel thriller TIMECRIMES and try to unravel the looping chronology that results if you’re not using your time machine responsibly… COLOSSAL, a Legion M film that turns a few genres around and gives Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens and Tim Blake Nelson a surprisingly surprising playground to stomp around in. Domestic drama, childhood trauma and giant monsters. All that stuff you love. We also discuss a few of his other works including a Blumhouse Into the Dark entry on Hulu called POOKA starring Nyasha Hatendi. Kathy, Mark and Burk talk about the latest Quentin Tarantino film ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD. I think we can all agree that this is definitely an eye-candy film for people who have an interest in Hollywood and the classic era of TV and the general history of the entertainment industry in this town. Every so often there’s an earthquake out here that happens in the studios and TV network conference rooms where discussions and memos send the industry into a scramble to stay relevant in a changing world. ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD is a film about one of those earthquakes. A moment in time and popular culture that changes everything. Watch the movie and then join us for a deep dive look into the canyons and backlots and how one dark night can change everything… Or not.Music composed and performed by Burk Sauls.Join Cinemondo and over a hundred thousand podcasters already using Buzzsprout to get their message out to the world. The Cinemondo gang of gangsters talk about the new Martin Scorsese movie THE IRISHMAN. Over three hours of the good stuff from the master of mobster mayhem. We go into the story and the production and address some of the criticisms we’ve heard. We heap praise on the cast which includes Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci and just about all the other cast members, too. The writing, direction and performances are all what you’d expect from a film made by Scorsese, but are there any controversies? Are people troubled by some of the “de-aging” technologies used in the film? Watch the movie, read up on some Jimmy Hoffa history and then join us for a deep dive into THE IRISHMAN.Music composed and performed by Burk Sauls.Join Cinemondo and over a hundred thousand podcasters already using Buzzsprout to get their message out to the world. Cinemondo welcomes Emmy winning and Academy Award nominee, documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick (The Invisible War, Twist of Faith, The Hunting Ground, The Bleeding Edge), to the podcast. Kirby takes us deep into the his process from concept to completion, and all the details that make documentary filmmaking so difficult and simultaneously so rewarding. Kirby’s films have tacked some heavy issues in his films, taking on rape in the military, sexual assault on college campuses and the medical device industry. We discuss how he finds the stories, researches the facts and approaches his subjects. Kirby and his crew have made an impressive body of important work that covers controversy and trauma, and as with the best documentary filmmaking it makes the world better by exposing the truth.Music composed and performed by Burk Sauls.Join Cinemondo and over a hundred thousand podcasters already using Buzzsprout to get their message out to the world. Kathy, Mark and Burk talk about the newest Kaiju film, GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS. We talk about the old Japanese Kaiju films and how this one compares. We go back in time to the classic Toho GODZILLA films and how Godzilla went from being a blindly destructive radioactive bad guy to being the much-beloved giant he is now. Do you sympathize with movie monsters? Do you agree with us that KING KONG didn’t deserve his fate? Lorna Sullivan joins the Cinemondo gang for another episode. This time we’re doing Halloween-themed Mystery Date, with some odd coincidences and connections. Kid actors… rats… and some discussion about what we should be watching at this time of year. Sure, you can watch HALLOWEEN again on Halloween, but you’re going to want to trust us on a few somewhat odd choices that might turn your Halloween Screening party into a rat-infested, haunted house with sociopathic children running amuck. The classic, gothic, violently full-color horror films that gave us all nightmares as kids… DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN and THE MUMMY… and their various sequels. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing and some of the greatest writers and directors in the business. We’re pretty hopeful because one of our favorite directors is making another adaptation of a book by one of our favorite writers. We get into THE MATRIX film and the upcoming sequel to the original trilogy, and the Keanu Reeves phenomenon. We discuss the 2009 film TRIANGLE. Definitely worth a look if you missed it when it came out. Kathy, Mark and Burk do their best to avoid spoilers as they discuss a movie that’s almost nothing but spoilers. It’s basically a film about a group of folks on a sailboat who encounter a horrifying storm and find what appears to be their rescue in the form of an abandoned cruise ship that just happens to be passing by. Kathy, Mark and Burk talk about a couple of Asian films that couldn’t be more different from each other. THE WANDERING EARTH, a massive blockbuster Chinese sci-fi epic, and the very effective and moody BURNING from Korea. The Cinemondo gang welcomes writer and director Erik Kristopher Myers who may or may not have made a fake documentary about a sinister urban legend entity who may or may not appear if you can stare into a certain tunnel without blinking. BUTTERFLY KISSES is a great example of a “found footage” horror film, but with a bit more. We talk about Joe Berlinger’s Netflix film EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE, and we conclude that it’s a very effective and unusual serial killer film. It may not be what you’re expecting, but it’s an honest look into what was happening back when Ted Bundy was around and on trial and being discussed by everyone with a TV. Was he a charming genius attorney who got railroaded, or a vicious serial killer. Back before the verdicts that was an actual question. Berlinger’s film lets you experience that part of the 70s and the strange magnetism Ted Bundy used to get what he wanted, but his charm and charisma couldn’t outshine the evidence against him.Join Cinemondo and over a hundred thousand podcasters already using Buzzsprout to get their message out to the world. The Cinemondo Podcast switches to black and white to talk about a couple of classics that aren’t as we’ll-known as they should be. We defend the old stuff by talking about some greats like NIGHTMARE ALLEY with Tyrone Power and FORCE OF EVIL, with John Garfield. Did the intrepid trio get in over their heads with this episode about Time Travel movies? Did they create wonky timeline-polluting paradoxes with their discussion of Primer and Predestination? Kathy, Mark and Burk try their best to explain the almost unexplainable weirdness of some classic time travel films, and beg listeners to help them understand how it all works.Join Cinemondo and over a hundred thousand podcasters already using Buzzsprout to get their message out to the world. Kathy, Mark and Burk discuss revisiting older films and how they can seem different in meaningful ways at alternate points in life. The first film they discuss is Mike Flanagan's GERALD’S GAME, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s book. Part of the discussion involves the idea of adapting books where the author has written the inner thoughts of their characters and how difficult it is to adapt these kinds of stories. The second film they talk about is Mike Flanagan's first film, ABSENTIA. They talk about other books and Burk brings up DUNE the book and the film, and Kathy talks about listening to audio books, including George R. R. Martin’s GAME OF THRONES. Universal’s attempt to reboot their “monsters” universe and how we think they’re failing at it. I. AM. GROOT.We -- Fanboy (Paul Asay) and Know-It-All (Jake Roberson) -- dive into an incredibly fun (and SPOILER-LIGHT [we describe the initial plot set up, but stop there]) conversation about the fantastical Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Not only do we talk about what we liked and didn't like, we dig into what it gets better and worse than its predecessor -- not to mention what we hope happens when the Guardians of the Galaxy slam into the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)....speaking of the MCU, the show kicks off with Jake and Paul celebrating the fact that GotGVol2 is the 15th feature film in the MCU by ranking their Top 5 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.Elsewhere, Jake brags about being retweeted by none other than Starlord himself (Chris Pratt) and Paul geeks out about Kenneth Branagh remaking "Murder on the Orient Express."("April Showers" by ProleteR is licensed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives [aka Music Sharing] 3.0 International License.)
