"There must have been a hundred sets of glowing eyes in front of them.  Some of their figures were only shadows. But some of the closest ones, the ones moving towards them now, they could see their faces. Their bodies. All of them looked malevolent. All of them seemed to be coming directly for them." TW: Dan's second story has a violent story woven into the horror story. Proceed with caution and take care while listening.  Toad Road AKA The Seven Gates of Hell is a classic haunting. Dan tells such a great sotry about two teens trying to prove their bravery and prove the rumors to be true. One gate, two gates, three gates, four, five and six... what happens when they cross over the sixth gate? Then a very fun flash back to our teen years with a story of a haunted house owned by none other than TLC singer T-Boz! An all around creepy, albeit sad, story that will make you consider following your gut about your kids friends.  Lynze gives us a palette cleanser for the first story, sharing a tale of a sweet moment between a skeptic and possibly, his deceased mother. An LDS missionary gets more than he bargained for when he asks the question, "How powerful is the Devil?". Can you conjure up the evil just as easily as the good? Closing out the show, Lynze explores the idea of a premonition via a dream.  STREET TEAM: Live in the store now at badmagicmerch.com. Timothy Renner returns to the show to discuss encounters from his new book Don’t Look Behind You: Following Ghost Roads Into the Unknown. Timothy Renner’s book, “Beyond the Seventh Gate”, explored the history and mysteries of the infamous Toad Road – an area in York County, Pennsylvania which is home to a variety of paranormal activity. “Don’t Look Behind You” expands on that volume, presenting more cases of strangeness from the area. Renner’s continuing research has brought forth more stories and new witnesses describing bigfoot attacks, UFOs, venomous snakes, Mothman, orbs, buried treasure, and even a creepy Toadman lurking in the nearby creek. To these stories, Renner adds his own experiences of oddities, weird synchronicity, rare animals, unexplained lights, and other high strangeness.

Toad Road (2012 - movie) A true combination of Fact and Fiction and Weird, Matt Schwartz’s pick this week is a move from 2012. It was a few years in the making. The director sought a group of post-high school young adults who were living outside Philadelphia and partying. The film is part real footage, part scripted narrative, with ‘actors’ who are actually doing the drugs, passing out, getting in fights, and lighting each others pubic hair on fire. The fiction element is an urban legend of the area, a passage through a series of gates in the woods that are the path to hell. They also mirror the world of aimlessness nihilism and addiction that the people in the story are going through. Sadly the actress, Sara Anne John, who plays the female lead, died of an overdose shortly before the film’s release. She was an aspiring poet and model living in NYC. You can purchase Toad Road on iTunes and Amazon. NEXT WEEK: We conclude our topic with Keith’s pick from the catalog of Grant Lee Philips. Barba*rossa (deck building card game) This is a weird one, a Japanese card game in the vein of Dominion, but with a very off-putting theme and doubling down with off-putting art. This is John’s pick for Weird - and it certainly fits. Originally published in Japan in 2010 and lapsing out of print in 2013 an English translation was kickstarted in 2015. The players take the role of German generals in WWII who are mounting a campaign against Russia. Oh, and all the troops are represented by scantily clad manga illustrations. A historical photograph version was also printed, it may be more disturbing because it is far less absurd and lets the theme really stand out. You can purchase Barbarossa and the sequel El Alamein on Amazon- but do you really want to? I’d get Dominion first. Episode 1: Our first cycle of episodes will explore some local legends from York County, Pennsylvania beginning with Toad Road and the Seven Gates of Hell. In the first episode we talk a little about Toad Road and the Seven Gates, where they are, what they might be, and what they are not. We disprove some urban legends and head to Hex Hollow for discussions about powwow, witchcraft, ghosts, will-o-the-wisps, cryptid creatures, and the famous "hex murder".
