Claiming Victory in Jesus: Walking in the Power of His Name • Friday Service   Website: www.PastorTodd.org To Give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give   As believers, we are not called to walk in defeat, fear, or discouragement. Christ has already won the victory for us, and through Him, we are more than conquerors! But many Christians live beneath their privileges, struggling with doubt, oppression, and spiritual battles because they do not fully understand how to claim victory in Jesus. Today, we will explore how we can walk in victory, what Christ has already accomplished for us, and why this is so essential in our lives. 1. The Bible speaks of a New Heavens and Earth. But what will it be like? Will it be some sort of ethereal, spirit-like existence? Or will it be physical? And how do a person’s beliefs about Genesis and origins—for example, belief in evolution and long ages—impact their beliefs about the coming New Creation? Join Gary Bates for a fascinating—and Gospel-centered—discussion of the New Heavens and Earth. Gary compellingly argues that physical resurrection is not only a basic Gospel truth, but that a physical New Creation is the only kind that could suitably restore what was physically lost in the original Creation due to the Fall. He also shows how belief in millions of years of evolution, death, and suffering before Adam sinned is both unnecessary, and ultimately incompatible with the Bible’s big picture of Creation → Fall → Restoration. ✍️ Links and Show Notes New Heavens and New Earth to include death and suffering? Reflection on Numbers 21 Numbers 21 is a powerful chapter in the Bible that highlights themes of judgment, repentance, divine provision, and victory. It chronicles Israel's journey through the wilderness, their struggles with faith, and God's miraculous interventions. 1. Complaints and the Fiery Serpents (Numbers 21:4-9) As the Israelites journeyed from Mount Hor toward the Red Sea, they became impatient and began to complain against Moses and God, saying: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” (Numbers 21:5). In response to their rebellion, God sent fiery serpents among them, which bit the people, causing many to die. This judgment was a direct consequence of their ungrateful hearts. However, when they acknowledged their sin and pleaded for mercy, God provided a way of healing. He commanded Moses to make a bronze serpent and lift it on a pole, declaring that anyone who looked upon it would be healed. This event is significant because it foreshadows Christ's sacrifice. In John 3:14-15, Jesus refers to this event: “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” The bronze serpent represents both judgment and healing—just as Jesus, though sinless, took on the judgment of sin so that those who look to Him in faith might be saved. 2. Victory Over the Canaanites (Numbers 21:1-3, 10-35) The chapter also records several military victories. After their repentance, Israel prayed for deliverance against the Canaanite king of Arad, and God granted them victory. This moment signified a turning point—when the people put their trust in God instead of complaining, they experienced His power. Israel also defeated King Sihon of the Amorites and King Og of Bashan, securing territory east of the Jordan. These victories confirmed God's promise to give Israel the land and demonstrated that obedience and faith lead to divine blessings. Lessons from Numbers 21 1.Complaining against God leads to consequences. •The Israelites' grumbling led to judgment, reminding us to be grateful even in difficult times. 2.Repentance and obedience bring healing. •When the Israelites repented and looked to the bronze serpent, they were saved—just as faith in Christ brings eternal life. 3.Trusting God leads to victory. •When Israel sought God in battle instead of doubting Him, He led them to triumph. Numbers 21 is a call to trust God in hardships, avoid complaining, and seek His healing and guidance. Just as the Israelites had to look upon the bronze serpent, we must keep our eyes on Jesus, our ultimate source of salvation and victory.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

He highlighted that God never asks us to give in a way that would cause us to lack, as illustrated by the example of farmers who benefit from the food they produce. 1 • Spiritual Nourishment: He drew parallels between physical and spiritual nourishment, explaining that as we help others, our own faith is strengthened. This was exemplified by the disciples who, after feeding the multitudes, collected baskets of leftovers for themselves. 2 • Baptism of the Holy Spirit: Herb discussed the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit, which empowers believers to live a powerful life and fulfill God's commands. He stressed that this baptism is not about water but about receiving the Holy Spirit's power. 3 • Empowerment and Authority: He spoke about the authority and power given to believers through the Holy Spirit, enabling them to perform miracles and resist the devil. Herb mentioned that Jesus, despite being the Son of God, performed miracles only after receiving the Holy Spirit. 4 • Mission and Purpose: Herb reiterated the Great Commission from Mark 16:15, urging believers to preach the gospel to all. He emphasized that the power of the Holy Spirit is essential for fulfilling this mission. 5 • Victory Over the Enemy: He assured that believers, empowered by the Holy Spirit, can stand against the enemy and emerge victorious. Herb encouraged the congregation to use the power given to them and to stay united in their mission. 6 • Practical Application: Herb concluded by encouraging the congregation to stay in God's word, exercise their spiritual power, and be bold in their faith. He shared personal anecdotes and testimonies to illustrate the practical application of his message. 7

We are having an identity crisis in the world, but what's worse is that the church is having an identity crisis of its own.  The Bible tells us that Jesus fully accepts us as His children. Yet we are always looking to be accepted by the world and those around us. Why do we struggle so much with acceptance?  Neil Anderson in his book Victory Over the Darkness says this: “Acceptance was replaced by rejection; therefore, we have a need to belong.”   Do you wrestle with rejection from others?  Thankfully, there is freedom in the acceptance of God. This week Tina is talking about how as a child of God we are fully accepted by Him. Neil Anderson is the founder of Freedom in Christ Ministries and the best-selling author of books Victory Over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker. Originally raised on a farm in Minnesota, Neil left a successful aerospace engineering job to go into ministry. As a pastor and later as a seminary professor, Neil noticed a common phenomenon among the people he was serving—even though they were Christians, they kept struggling with the same problems. This realization led Neil to spend years studying, learning and developing a step-by-step prayer and repentance process called The Steps to Freedom in Christ. It's designed to help people resolve the root issues in their lives by submitting to God and resisting the Devil. Our guest today is Mark Eshelman. Mark accepted Christ at the young age of 10, but his faith soon became works based. In his 20's, he experienced a spiritual crisis and sought answers as he traveled across the world. God provided the resources he needed to get through it, and for many years, Mark lived as a committed follower of Jesus.  While his spiritual crisis led him to settle many of his intellectual questions about Jesus and Christianity, his faith was still very much in his head, and he did not know how to engage with God on a heartfelt, emotional level. Eventually he hit a spiritual drought, and he knew he needed something more.    Then, a friend introduced him to Victory Over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson. Immediately, he noticed two significant changes: his heart was quiet, and his bitter anger was gone. This was the start of a new chapter in Mark's life. Since then, he's been on a journey of discovering his significance in God and learning to break off idols which has allowed him to fully receive and feel the depths of God's love. Today, he's able to love his wife, God and others in a way that he never was before.  EPISODE LINKS: Subscribe to Stories of Freedom on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts so that you never miss an episode! Do you agonize over deadlines and pressure in your schedule?   "[C]asting all your cares on him, because he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7 CSB   This is another of the "cans" of scripture from Victory Over the Darkness by Neil T. Anderson. Why should we worry and be upset when we can cast our cares on God? Do you have any worries or cares? Do you sense pressure in your schedule? In my own situation, I feel the pressure that comes from being overcommitted. God is so good in my life, and yet, I can get worried about how I'm going to honor my own commitments. I'm my own worst enemy. I don't say "no" enough.   But I think this passage goes way beyond that. Maybe you're in a serious mess that you didn't create. Maybe it's health related or related to the current financial situation. Maybe you've lost your job.   Can we really cast our cares on God? Do we really trust verses like this?   I want to do better. Today, take an action that shows you trust God. Ask him what he wants you to do next. Then do it. Even if it seems like something out of the ordinary, let's practice doing what God tells us to do. If your idea lines up with scripture find a way to do it. Let's listen to Jesus and do what he says.   I'm part of a community that tries to actively follow Jesus every day. Our guest today is Amanda Thompson. She serves as a Field Staff with Freedom in Christ, discipling women both locally and around the country through Zoom. She lives in Texas with her husband, Valiant, and her three sons. Amanda gave her life to Christ at 12 years old, but prior to that, she was abused by a relative for many years. This left her with a deep sense of shame and guilt, and she carried this over into her relationship with the Lord. For 20 years, Amanda tried hard to be a “good Christian girl” so that God wouldn't regret His decision to make her His child. But that didn't work. Eventually, in her second marriage, during a season of infidelity and self-hatred, Amanda hit rock bottom and was confronted with the question: did God actually exist? In that moment, she decided that yes, God was real, and since He was real, He must be big enough to fix everything she had messed up. Not long after, Amanda's mom gave her a copy of the book Victory Over the Darkness by Neil Anderson, and she found herself crying her way through it as she learned that she was loved, accepted and significant to God. God used this truth to revolutionize her life, marriage, and relationship with Him as he led her to greater freedom and healing. Today, Amanda sees all of life as a journey towards Christ likenesses, and she's passionate about helping others on this journey, too. Let's dive in to our conversation with Amanda Thompson. On today's episode, you're going to hear from Seth Broadhurst. He currently serves on staff with Freedom in Christ USA as our National Director of Ministry Relationships. He's been married to his wife, Stacy, for 21 years and they have three children. Seth grew up attending church with his family, and trusted Jesus as His Savior on a youth retreat. After the death of a childhood friend, God ignited in Seth a passion to share the Gospel with others, and eventually, he became a church planter. While his drivenness helped him grow the church and see a lot of positive results, his identity soon became wrapped up in his success as a pastor and people's perception of him. Sundays were the hardest. If he felt like a sermon didn't go well or he didn't receive enough affirmation from others, he would wallow in shame and guilt for a few days. This went on for many years, until Seth stumbled upon Freedom in Christ material and had an encounter with God he'll never forget. As he embraced his identity in Christ and replaced lies with truth, he experienced freedom from the need to please people and be perfect, and his perspective on ministry radically changed. If you struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, or you work in ministry, we believe Seth's story will be an encouragement to you. A man on a mission in this episode to share how God has healed him from “PTSD, trauma, moral injury, habitual sin,” Carl shares about his experiences as a foster-to-adopt kid and onward. While the conversation doesn't get overly detailed or specific, please be advised to listen with care or listen to a different episode altogether if you are still healing from your own past trauma. Carl pulls from countless personal experiences as an officer in the Navy, a leader in his local church, a husband to his wife, and others, reflecting on how God worked through hardship in all those circumstances to deepen his relationship with Him. Along the way, the Lord redefined and brought to life some commonly used Christian terms like forgiveness, grace, and trust for Carl. In addition to biblical passages and relationships with friends and family, Carl mentions a few resources that aided his walk with the Lord, linked below: Victory Over the Darkness by Neil T. Anderson of Freedom in Christ Ministries How People Change by Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp The Ragamuffin Gospel: Good News for the Bedraggled, Beat-Up, and Burnt Out by Brennan Manning If you would like to share your own story, complete the form on OCF's “Be a Guest” webpage. Alternatively, if you have an idea for a guest or topic I should consider for a future episode of the show, send an email to podcast@ocfusa.org. As you listen to this conversation with Carl, here are a few questions to ponder in your personal time, with a small group, or with a mentor: What do you turn to as a means of escape from difficult life circumstances? How would you describe the tone of your conversations with God when He brings hardship your way? Why is it vital to read Ephesians in its entirety rather than focus on one half of the book? Carl talks about approaching his military career and his walk with the Lord with a “performer” mentality. In what area of your own life do you find yourself being a performer? Despite the distractions of the world, how do you stay focused on your own identity in Christ? When have you seen the Lord use your vulnerability to impact others?

Chauntia Williams is a wife, mom of two little kids, and a leader at her church with a passion for helping women from broken situations know Jesus. While Chauntia grew up going to church and became a Christian at a young age, she started having traumatic nightmares when she was 11 years old. The nightmares continued into her teenage and adult years, and they intensified after the tragic death of her baby girl. Eventually, she came to understand that they were spiritual attacks. She did all she knew to try to make them stop—praying before bed, sleeping with her Bible, etc—but nothing helped. It wasn't until earlier this year, when Chauntia had an encounter with God in a Steps to Freedom in Christ Appointment, that everything changed. She was able to resolve the deeper issues underneath her nightmares and experience her first peaceful night's sleep in 13 years. On this episode, Chauntia shares her story of finding freedom from traumatic nightmares, fear, unforgiveness, and a distorted view of God and herself. You'll also hear her talk about how her whole mindset has changed now that she understands her significance and position as God's child. On this episode, Neil will dive deeper into his story and the story of Freedom in Christ Ministries. You'll hear about the importance of genuine repentance, the beautiful reality of being a child of God, and why “there's nothing more critical than to be firmly rooted in Christ.” EPISODE LINKS: To purchase The Steps to Freedom in Christ booklet: https://freedominchrist.com/new-thestepstofreedominchrist.aspx.
