David Semmens is Chief Investment Officer at Cadro and an External Investment Committee Member at Wealthify where he was previously CIO. He holds additional Investment Committee and advisory roles and is an adjunct lecturer at Heriot-Watt University.  Our conversation starts with David's path into the world of investment which took him around various European cities and ultimately to Edinburgh where he decided to settle. We speak about the impact of Fintech on the way that wealth is managed and discuss its disruptive nature as well as the focus on dynamism and change. This is a significant shift from the older, more static, approach to managing money towards a more personalized and interactive approach. We trace the beginning of this interactivity to ESG and sustainable investing trends and now examine how it is becoming more widespread. We return to the concept of communication and how key that is to get ideas across. Series 3 of the 2023 Fiftyfaces Podcast is supported by Eagle Point Credit Management. Eagle Point Credit Management is a specialist investment manager principally focused on income-oriented credit investments in niche and inefficient markets. Founded by Thomas Majewski in partnership with Stone Point Capital in 2012, Eagle Point currently manages over $7.8 billion in AUM. Investment strategies pursued by the firm include collateralized loan obligations (“CLOs”), portfolio debt securities, and other opportunities across the credit universe. Currently, they believe that Eagle Point is the largest investor in CLO equity in the world and one of the largest non-bank lenders focused on providing financing solutions to credit funds. In Series 3 of the Fiftyfaces Podcast we start to dig deep – into sustainability standards, fintech, what impact actually means, and bust myths around hybrid working, the great resignation and entrepreneurship. We ask whether we are using the right terminology - especially with respect to the vexed topic of ESG - and as whether private wealth is serving the diverse client base appropriately. We look at fintech advances as well as changes in privacy and what it will mean in terms of our personal choices. An executive search expert dissects the impact of the shift to hybrid working and the changes that she sees in the hiring landscape, while a policy expert shares what it is like to work with some of the luminaries of finance. As the pandemic continues to impact personal finances across the world, research shows that women and minority groups are being disproportionately affected. That's why it's increasingly important that financial products, such as bank accounts, savings products and financial advice, are accessible and inclusive for everyone. The FCA estimates that in the UK, 1.3 million adults don't have access to a bank account. Can technology, and the rise of online banks like Starling or Monzo, help make personal finance more inclusive and empower customers to take control of their money? My guest today is Nina Mohanty - a financial technology expert - who has had an incredible career in the financial tech industry, working with some of the biggest startups that have transformed the way we manage our money. Nina is an advocate for financial inclusion, working on products that champion inclusion and help users build financial resilience, allowing them to be more prepared for life's unexpected events as well as it's opportunities. Today, Nina shares with us her personal, and professional financial journey. We talk about how the fintech industry evolved and what happens at the crossroad of financial services and technology and how fintech can empower people to make better financial decisions. Rebank: Banking the Future
Are Retail Investment Offerings Fit for Purpose?

Historically characterized by high fees and questionable objectivity, retail investments are going through a transformation as the likes of Robinhood, Betterment, Scalable Capital and others bring compelling digital offerings to market.   Richard Theo is the co-founder and CEO of Wealthify, one of the UK's leading roboadvisors.    With a background in technology and computer science, Richard started Wealthify in 2014 to take advantage of the then relatively nascent digital investments market. In 2017, Aviva acquired a majority stake in Wealthify to offer its services to their existing customer base.   It feels like we've only just started down the path of retail investments transformation. In my personal view, we've made great progress, but we're still miles away from truly revolutionary offerings in the space. Just like in digital banking, there are a handful of players vying for primacy, and it's interesting to watch it unfold.   Have a view on this subject? Hello and welcome to Rebank. I'm your host, Will Beeson. This is part one of a two-part episode.   We recently participated in an event with PIMFA, the UK Personal Investment Management and Financial Advice Association, on the subject of Millennials and Financial Services, as part of a research project they're undertaking.   The research looks at how people in their 20s and early-30s think about life, work and the future, and how that influences their financial decisions.   We spoke with a range of guests at and around the event, ranging from incumbent investment managers to fintech startups to millennials themselves and stitched those conversations together into this two-part episode.   In part one, we'll hear from PIMFA's CEO, Liz Field, and Head of Research, Gary Sunderland, as well as Sally Allan, Chief Marketing Officer of Wealthify, a roboadvisor, and Ellie Duncan, Deputy Content Editor at FT Adviser.   In part two of the episode, which we'll release in the coming weeks, we'll hear from Nina Mohanty, Business Development at fintech marketplace platform Bud, and Sophie Winwood, formerly of Innovate Finance and soon to be with Anthemis, a Venture Capital firm, for a deeper dive into the way Millennials themselves think about life, work and money.   A huge thanks to PIMFA for coordinating the event and facilitating our involvement.   As always, connect with us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or on our website at bankingthefuture.com.   If you like today's show, please subscribe on iTunes, or your podcast platform of choice, and leave us a review. Thank you very much for joining us today. Please welcome, Liz Field, Gary Sunderland, Sally Allan and Ellie Duncan.
