Peter shifts to the structure of the church and how it is to operate in chapter 5. The external stress of persecution is leading to internal stress in the church. God has gifted the church with leadership that can help shepherd and disciple us even in our own stressful environments, but leadership in the church comes from a place of humility.
With high inflation rates, and salaries staying pretty much stagnant, it's time we look at renegotiating our current salaries, or if you're self-employed, increasing your rates. But, knowing how much to ask for, or knowing how much to increase our rates by can be pretty tricky. Because of this, I am joined with Stef Sword-Williams, founder of F*ck Being Humble to learn HOW to get paid our worth. This week, I am thrilled to welcome Stef Sword Williams into my kitchen. She is the founder of the remarkable book "F*ck Being Humble," where she advocates for the importance of effective self-promotion and challenges the notion that modesty is always the best policy. In the UK, we are known for self-deprecating, often downplaying our successes and mocking our achievements. This mindset isn't healthy! We tend to believe that we can only celebrate ourselves when others do so first, and that putting ourselves down will make others feel better. However, to reach our goals and be recognised, we need to learn how to self-promote.Stef Sword Williams launched "F*ck Being Humble" in 2018 out of frustration with the conventional approach to self-development and the missed opportunities that came from not speaking up.I remember attending an event where Stef spoke about self-development, and I thought, "I have to get her on the podcast." And now, here we are!In this episode we touched on the following topics:What do you mean by F*ck Being Humble Why is modesty not always best Why are we particularly bad at this in the UK compared to the USAWe care what other people think - but often that is just a reflection of themselves and how they are feeling rather than a reflection on you and your successes or winsHow can you promote yourself but also be gracious Self-promotion also comes from confidence - what if your not confident?Self-promotion is only for the self-employed?Confidence vs Competence In your book you touch on highlighting your failures but then also highlighting your strengths Often we don't see our own strength and failures - then what do we do?Fake it till you make it - what are your thoughts?Your journey to self-promotion and your career with Fuck Being Humble This episode was hosted and produced by Georgia SymondsGeorgia's Instagram - click here! For more information and other interesting articles check out our website: www.catchupsinmykitchen.com Hosted on Acast. One thing that we pray for often these days is peace in the Church. And not just maintaining peace in our own churches, but peace across the Big C Church. And that is the focus for Peter: that even in the midst of surrounding chaos, Peter's desire is that the Church would be a testimony of true peace.

Summary In this episode, Coach Ty Gower discusses various topics related to coaching and football strategy. He debunks common football myths and emphasizes the importance of teaching and adapting in the game. Coach Gower also explains the concept of the Mint Front and how it can be used to defend against modern offensive schemes. He concludes by discussing adjustments to the tight end and different coverage looks. In this part of the conversation, Coach Ty Gower discusses various strategies for creating matchups and generating pressure on defense. He explains the concept of open blitz, where the defense blitzes away from the tight end or the three-man surface. He also talks about using three high safeties and the benefits of self-scouting to make adjustments. Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of giving players autonomy and ownership in the game plan. Finally, he discusses the development of third down packages and the use of different presentations to stress the offense. In this conversation, Coach Ty Gower discusses the effectiveness of simulated pressure and the importance of pre-snap presentation. He also explains the concept of pressure packages and how to involve all 11 positions in the defense. Takeaways Coaches should be open to learning and adapting in order to stay ahead in the game. Teaching and coaching are essential in helping players succeed and overcome challenges. Scheme and situational football play a vital role in defensive success. The Mint Front can be an effective defensive strategy against modern offensive schemes. Adjustments to the tight end and coverage looks are important for defensive success. Open blitz can be used to create favorable matchups by blitzing away from the tight end or the three-man surface. Using three high safeties can provide additional coverage options and help defend against the air raid offense. Self-scouting is crucial for identifying tendencies and making adjustments to keep the defense unpredictable. Giving players autonomy and ownership in the game plan can increase their buy-in and confidence. Developing multiple third down packages with different presentations can stress the offense and create confusion. Simulated pressure and pre-snap presentation can be effective strategies in confusing the offense and creating pressure on the quarterback. Pressure packages should involve all 11 positions on the defense to keep the offense guessing and prevent them from preparing for a specific blitz. Coaches should take ownership of their position group and continuously learn and apply knowledge to improve their coaching. Climbing the coaching ladder requires patience, networking, and being comfortable in your own skin. Avoid comparing yourself to others and focus on your own growth and development as a coach. F*ck Being Humble isn't just a book, it's a global movement which is peeling away hundreds of years of repression, modesty and societal norms: the idea that certain people, specifically certain types of people, are better seen than heard. In this episode of Peers2Peers, powered by Shopify, Stefanie Sword-Williams shares the journey of starting a provocative brand in her mid-twenties, the resilience and perseverance paramount to successfully navigating criticism when you're changing the status-quo, and why she doesn't listen to the unsolicited advice of “men from Middle-America on Linkedin”.Discover more:Start your Shopify 14-day free trial: https://bit.ly/3fuq58C -Check out F*ck Being Humble's website: https://www.fuckbeinghumble.com/Follow F*ck Being Humble on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fbeinghumble/Connect with Stefanie on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stefanieswordwilliams/Follow The Peers Project on Instagram: http://bit.ly/3adVmYG - Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. There is an old Mac Davis song called It's Hard to be Humble that begins, “Oh, Lord, it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way.” This satirical song points out how quickly we determine our place as above that of others. At times we believe that the blessings we have received are of our own making, due to our brilliance and good works. Pastor Dan Smail and Wendy Farone discuss the importance of understanding the true meaning of being humble…it's harder that you think!Mac Davis-Hard to Be Humble with the Muppetshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-07_2DWfEmQ

Sammy Mejia, my good friend whom I met during our time in Moscow and happened to stay in touch throughout the last decade has had a unique career that started at DePaul University and took him to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (D-League at the time). He decided early to take on a new career in Europe and signed a contract in Italy his first year. After he finished the 2008 season in Italy, he signed a one year deal in Greece the following year and learned his ways around Europe. The following two seasons, 2009-2011, were the most defining of Sammy's career because he earned MVP honors and climbed the ladder to the top level organisation in Europe, CSKA Moscow. After a season in Russia he turned to play in Turkey and spend the rest of his career (8 years) on two different teams. On this episode, Sammy told me about his humble beginnings in New York as well as the DLeague life and how he came about to make the decision to leave midway through the season to join Capo d'Orlando in Italy. He told me about the defining times in France and how and why his career started to take off after that. We talked briefly about our time together in Moscow as well as his time in Turkey. The crucial decision to go into 2nd division of Turkey and the faith he showed in the Coach. The bulk of our discussion was obviously centred around retirement and facing new challenges in his life. How he went about deciding to retire during the pandemic and how difficult the decision was. The biggest challenge of redefining yourself without looking back too much. We also touched on the current challenge of proving himself again and basically starting over with a new role within the same business. Being Humble and embracing a new role! Stefanie Sword-Williams is the founder of platform and event series F*ck Being Humble, having refined her method of imparting self-worth and self-promotion skills giving talks at industry panels and events. She has been commissioned by international companies including Google, Warner Music, Unilever, Bumble, SmartWorks and Cannes Lions Festival to run professional development workshops. Stef was also named as one of The Dot's 'Creative Trailblazers', identified as one of the 100 women redefining the creative industries.Whether it is through our parents, our education, our bosses, our colleagues, or the media we consume, we are constantly told that being humble is essential to our professional success. It's often seen as distasteful or arrogant to shout about our achievements. But in a modern workplace, where the conventional, steady, linear career path is becoming rarer and rarer, this advice seems ever-more obsolete. In the age of flexible working and portfolio careers, it's time to F*ck Being Humble. In this episode, I chat to Stef about her career journey and why she decided to launch this platform. We also discuss toxic work cultures, the mistakes she made early on, how to get a book published and how to promote yourself.
In this episode, I had had a fantastic chat with Stefanie Sword-Williams. Stef is a huge believer in self-advocacy and empowerment to lead people to freely and openly talk about their achievements proudly. And so, we talk about the origin story of her business called F*ck Being Humble of how it started as an Instagram page to turning into her becoming a published author to delivering talks to huge international companies. Having recently been named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2020, amongst some other amazing accolades, Stef and I talk about this and how she feels following this huge growth in the space of only 2 years. We talk about how she faced burnout and the recovery from that.
