The Heartbeat of Local Music with Steve Keller

As the radio waves marry the beats of our hearts, Steve Keller's voice resonates with the experiences of a lifetime in music and broadcasting. In the cozy corners of college radio where he began, Steve rose through the ranks to become an influential figure at SUNY's first station, intertwining his love for music with a skill for managing talent. From rubbing shoulders with legends like James Brown to the digital transformation of radio, Steve's tale is not just a nostalgic trip down memory lane—it's a symphony of adaptations and innovations that keep his passion for a global audience alive through Keller Radio and his beloved band, Best Supporting Actor. The tune takes a somber yet inspiring turn as Steve opens up about his dance with mortality, sharing a narrative that could've ended mid-note during a Best Supporting Actor performance. The aftermath of his heart attack, the installation of a pacemaker, and a continued battle with heart health have reframed Steve's existence, leading to a rhythm that's both cautious and celebratory. His resilience reverberates in every word, echoing his dedication to local music as a contributor to Brevard Live magazine and as a fervent advocate for bands that color our community with their melodies. Finally, we crescendo to the meticulous orchestration of the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) music festival revival. With Steve at the helm, we're given a backstage pass to the challenges and triumphs involved in resurrecting this cultural cornerstone. Weaving tales of logistical feats and the electric atmosphere of a festival reborn, Steve celebrates the undeniable impact these gatherings have on the local arts scene. His experiences with WFIT and mentorship of emerging talents underscore the episode's theme of passion and perseverance, a harmonious duet that defines not just a festival or a radio career, but a life well-lived in music.Support the showFollow us on Instagram @spacecoastpodcastSponsor this show Want to watch our shows? https://youtube.com/@spacecoastpodcast

A visionary and trendsetter since the early 1970s, Stanley's passion for both the musical and visual arts has perhaps been the key to the astonishing ongoing worldwide phenomenon known as KISS. Stanley also returned to his passion for painting ten years ago by creating portraits and abstracts that are emotionally-charged compositions. He aims to maximize the direct, physical impact of his paintings through scale, texture, color and simplicity of images. In a few short years of exhibiting, Stanley's works have been acquired by numerous art collectors and he has been commissioned to create large works to be displayed internationally.GUITAR TRAX is hosted by mulit-Emmy award winning guitarist Brian Tarquin featuring in- depth interviews with today's hottest guitar legends and airs every Monday night from 10pm-12pm on WFIT 89.5FM on the Florida space coast and can be streamed on WFIT.org. The world has just lost one of the great guitarists of a generation, the maestro himself Jeff Beck! Jeff represented so much for musicians because of his never ending strive for tone and proficiency as a guitar gunslinger. He reached millions through his decades of stellar recordings and performances that permeated our souls. He is the father of modern guitar instrumental music and pioneered the path for such guitarists as Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Al Di Meola and countless others. He was truly a risk taker and forged ahead in new styles of music that very few would ever dare to tread.“I am very sad to learn that Jeff Beck passed away, I loved his playing, a real innovator, great sound, great feeling.” Jean Luc Ponty “Jeff Beck was one of the most innovative guitarists there ever was. He constantly reinvented himself. He was one of a kind and we were very lucky to have been graced with his amazing music.”Eric Johnson "Jeff Beck shaped the guitar's future, starting in the 1960's. His specialty was fluid, melodic, emotional playing, like nobody else. Always has been one of my absolute favorite players."Steve Morse (Deep Purple) GUITAR TRAX is hosted by mulit-Emmy award winning guitarist Brian Tarquin featuring in- depth interviews with today's hottest guitar legends and airs every Monday night from 10pm-12pm on WFIT 89.5FM on the Florida space coast and can be streamed on WFIT.org. Inevitably E.J. says it best himself in sharing. “It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day,” he explains. “If it doesn't have that it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project.” Among Johnson's many accolades are a Grammy award for "Cliffs Of Dover " (a track from his Platinum certified Ah Via Musicom), lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats, his listing among the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century" by Musician. In his hometown of Austin TX, a city full of guitarists the readers of the Austin Chronicle have voted Johnson the city's "Best Electric Guitarist" and "Best Acoustic Guitarist" in their yearly poll year after year. Robin Trower is one of the great guitar legends of all time. He began his career in the 1960s with the band The Paramounts and Procol Harum, whose enigmatic lyrics and evocative sound typified and exemplified for many an era of experimentation and idyllic hopes. Deeply inspired by the blues as well as his contemporaries, including rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix, Trower eventually struck out on his own. His solo records as Bridge of Sighs set a new standard for all guitarists in the early 70's and gave birth to such classics as "Bridge of Sighs", "Too Rolling Stoned", "Day of the Eagle" and "Little Bit of Sympathy".     The Orlando Music History Group on Facebook has been blowing up lately.  So much I thought it might be time to play this cassette.  A lot of the bands on this cassette have been piping in and sharing old stories, posters, and merch. It has been very entertaining to say the least.     This is side A of a mix tape of Florida bands.  Most of whom were from the Orlando area.  It is a good representation of the Hardcore (and some of the Metalcore) community during the early 90's.  The cassette was made by Andrew Chadwick of Gainesville for Ian Koss of Ink 19 / WFIT.  It is made up of demos and 7"s and is very lo-fi because of it's vintage.  Thank to Ian for sending it in!     Sites:  dontfreak.tumblr.com facebook.com/dont freak audio zine email: dontfreakzine@gmail.com   host/producer: Adriaan Mol
