Our guest this episode is Isaac Sloane. Isaac fronts the band Isaac Sloane & The Sound Brigade, a blues/rock/psychedelic/jazz/fusion band based out of Denton. A relative newcomer to the scene Isaac and band have already logged countless shows all across the metroplex and have even earned nominations for Best Blues Band and Best Guitarist by the Dallas Entertainment Awards. Isaac tells some inspiring stories of his dedication to the gig, like walking with his gear three miles to the venue after near totaling his car and leaving it on the side of the highway. AND going straight from the ER to the stage after a suffering a heart attack, with medical bracelet still on his wrist. And finally we hear the hilarious story of when Isaac and the Sound Brigade, in a scene reminiscent of something you'd see on "Almost Famous", played a supposed "peace" festival and got paid in bags of weed. https://isaacsloaneandthesoundbrigade.com/ . Come see Chris J Norwood & The Knockdown Dragout May 30th at the Doublewide in Dallas with Austin soul powerhouse Tomar & The FCs. https://www.chrisjnorwood.com/shows Follow Chris J Norwood on Instagram: @chrisjnorwood And Facebook: @chrisjnorwood . For more than 45 years, Paul Stanley has reigned supreme as one of the single-most recognizable front men in the history of rock and roll. Although preferring to live his off stage life out of the media spotlight he continues to be the chief songwriter, driving force and unwavering voice of KISS. A visionary and trendsetter since the early 1970s, Stanley's passion for both the musical and visual arts has perhaps been the key to the astonishing ongoing worldwide phenomenon known as KISS. Stanley also returned to his passion for painting ten years ago by creating portraits and abstracts that are emotionally-charged compositions. He aims to maximize the direct, physical impact of his paintings through scale, texture, color and simplicity of images. In a few short years of exhibiting, Stanley's works have been acquired by numerous art collectors and he has been commissioned to create large works to be displayed internationally.GUITAR TRAX is hosted by mulit-Emmy award winning guitarist Brian Tarquin featuring in- depth interviews with today's hottest guitar legends and airs every Monday night from 10pm-12pm on WFIT 89.5FM on the Florida space coast and can be streamed on WFIT.org. The world has just lost one of the great guitarists of a generation, the maestro himself Jeff Beck! Jeff represented so much for musicians because of his never ending strive for tone and proficiency as a guitar gunslinger. He reached millions through his decades of stellar recordings and performances that permeated our souls. He is the father of modern guitar instrumental music and pioneered the path for such guitarists as Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Al Di Meola and countless others. He was truly a risk taker and forged ahead in new styles of music that very few would ever dare to tread.“Jeff was a hero of mine on many levels. He gave us so much wonderful electric guitar music to enjoy. R.I.P. Jeff Beck.”Joe Satriani“There are few musicians in history who transcend their instrument of choice and reach a level of pure, beautiful expression. We are all so fortunate to have lived in a time when one of those rare gods walked the earth and shared his gift with all of us. Safe travels, Maestro.”Dean Brown (David Sanborn) “I had the honor of being featured together with Jeff on Tina Turner's recording of Private Dancer. Watching him in action Jeff had the innate ability to make one feel like both giving up on the guitar and trying harder at the same time. The God of Guitar Gods, there will never be another like Jeff Beck.”Hal Lindes (Hal Lindes)"In 1966, when I first heard the Yardbirds “Shapes of Things” … double lead guitar solo was so exciting it defined psychedelic rock and undoubtedly influenced Jimi Hendrix. There will never be another Jeff Beck, a once in a generation talent."Carl Verheyen (Supertramp) GUITAR TRAX is hosted by mulit-Emmy award winning guitarist Brian Tarquin featuring in- depth interviews with today's hottest guitar legends and airs every Monday night from 10pm-12pm on WFIT 89.5FM on the Florida space coast and can be streamed on WFIT.org. JUNO Award-winning Canadian bluesman Steve Strongman is a versatile talent, and a restless one. By constantly pushing himself in new directions, he has kept himself vital. His talent is huge and impossible to miss, and it's matched by his staggering musical ambition — as guitar-slinger, songwriter or vocalist. The same structures and progressions that animate blues and roots music can also choke the air out of it, smothering it in caricature and cliché. But Strongman is a subtle shape-shifter who manages to slip that trap without betraying the music he loves. Throughout, he never sounds an inauthentic note or loses touch with the essence of the blues. The 2019 release of Strongman's 7th studio recording "Tired of Talkin'" is destined to further establish the guitar slinger's reputation as one of the most exciting artists on the International Blues scene. Strongman's impressive resume includes stints opening for guitar legends such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Johnny Winter. The performer's breakthrough 2012 release A Natural Fact was hailed as a standout, earning Maple Blues Awards for Recording, Songwriter, and Guitarist Of The Year as well as a 2013 Juno Award for Blues Recording Of The Year. In 2014 he was thrice-nominated at the Maple Blues Awards (Guitar Player, Electric Act, and Entertainer of the Year) and in 2015 received a second Juno nod for Blues Album of the Year (for Let Me Prove It To You). In 2018, No Time Like Now, was a Juno award nominee for Blues Album of the Year and in 2019, Strongman won Best Guitarist for the Solo Duo Category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. His 2019 release “Tired of Talkin” is earning rave reviews and showcases why Strongman is one of the most exciting performers on the scene today.Beyond Strongman's talent as a songwriter, guitarist and front man is his ability to engage his audience and deliver an outstanding performance at every live show. With his inimitable guitar playing and soulful vocals, Strongman delivers incredible performances with power and passion. Steve Strongman has a way of stirring a crowd that evokes the emotion, maturity and authenticity of classic blues themes. His music speaks for truth and passion, and offers hope for the soul in the face of hard times in a way that leaves audiences craving more. In a musical world of many pretenders, Steve Strongman is as real and authentic as it gets.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Of Mice & Men over Zoom video! OF MICE & MEN first emerged as part of a vanguard of subculture alongside their contemporaries and tour mates in Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember, Pierce The Veil, Asking Alexandria, and Dance Gavin Dance; and as a staple of the Vans Warped Tour and international rock festivals. They took home the Best International Newcomer price at the 2013 Kerrang! Awards and were twice nominated as Artist Of The Year at the APMAs, where Manansala took home Best Guitarist.Across a half dozen studio albums, including career redefining fan-favorite masterpiece Earthandsky and the No. 1 Billboard Independent Album Restoring Force, the group's combination of crowd-moving breakdowns, staccato rhythms, and soaring melodic vocals bridged the gap from the underground to the world at large. Songs like “Would You Still be There” and “Unbreakable” catapulted OF MICE & MEN onto massive tours with Linkin Park and Rise Against (2015); Slipknot and Marilyn Manson (2016); and Five Finger Death Punch and In Flames (2017).At every turn, no matter what obstacles presented themselves, the four men at the OF MICE & MEN core since 2016 never lost sight of the strength of their connection to the audience or each other. They refocused and persevered at every turn, delivering massive anthems that work in the most intimate of punk clubs, the biggest of European festivals, and American rock radio formats alike. So, when the 2020 pandemic ground the touring business to a halt, Pauley, Manansala, Ashby, and Arteaga turned inward and resolved to take advantage of the year to create. They expanded their home-studio setups, wrote together online, and self-produced their new music. Pauley, already an experienced producer, handled all of the mixing and mastering duties himself. The band's renowned spirit of determination, aggression, and musical excellence has never been more evident than on TIMELESS, the first of three EPs set for release in 2021, a sort of trilogy culminating in OF MICE & MEN's seventh full-length album before the year's end. Conceived in collaboration over platforms like Twitch and Zoom, in the midst of the pandemic, the California quartet's new music is their most impressive and expansive, without sacrificing any heaviness. “Obsolete,” “Timeless,” and “Anchor” take a special place in the ever-evolving OM&M song canon. While Northern Irish guitarist Joe Hodgson is an accomplished student of the bluesy hard rock he grew up on, it's his ability to transcend the genre and use his instrument to paint pictures and tell stories that makes him such a vital artist. His compositions are influenced not only by personal experiences, but also by a love of literature and a deep curiosity about the human condition, and are filled with stirring melodies that can evoke the listener's deepest emotions. https://joehodgsonmusic.com/

As the lead guitarist for multi-platinum rock band Candlebox, Brian Quinn has traveled the world performing in front of crowds as large as 90,000 at a time and sharing the stage with some of most iconic legends in the industry. But to this life-long musician, he’s just as happy performing to an audience of 100 as 100,000. Because for him, it’s all about the music. It always has. Drawn to the guitar at a very early age, he first picked up the guitar at the young age of five and was playing sold-out shows by the age of 15 with his hardcore band Burial Ground((1990-1996). He, then, spent six years performing in the hardcore circuit with what was considered one of the most influential acts of that time, inadvertently being credited with “inventing” the sub-genre of hardcore music described today as “Bloodcore”. Burial Ground released an independent album that received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. But, by 17 larger things were calling and Quinn headed to Philadelphia in search of something more.Soon after arriving in the city of Brotherly Love, he co-founded the Philadelphia-based rock band Octane (2000-2005). Still considered to this day as one of the most successful bands to come out of Philly, Octane sold more than 65,000 copies of their independent debut release and enjoyed more than 1000 spins of the single “I For One” on Philadelphia rock station 94.1 WYSP.During this time, Quinn was named “Best Guitarist” in the Philadelphia region by the Philadelphia Music Awards in 2001 and 2004 and was routinely praised by fans and critics alike for his signature guitar technique, his ability on “slide” guitar, and dynamic on-stage presence. After enjoying five successful years with Octane, Quinn left the band to found a blues-based hard rock band that would later become known as Fosterchild. This project would quickly gain national attention and the band was signed to the SMG/ILG/WARNER record label from 2007-2010. The band hit the road on a U.S. tour and it was then that Quinn met Kevin Martin, lead singer of Candlebox. Immediately impressed with Quinn’s talent, Martin promised him he’d one day have a spot in Candlebox.Quinn continued to tour the country with Fosterchild and even garnered a special invitation to perform for the U.S. troops stationed at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, where the group performed in front of thousands of soldiers on New Year’s Eve of 2010.Quinn has been invited to perform at NAMM Ultimate Jam Night for the past two years, alongside Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan and many other iconic artists. He routinely guests with the American Vinyl All Star Band featuring Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (Steely Dan/Doobie Bros.), Barry Goudreau (formerly of the band Boston), Robert “Mousey” Thompson (Wilson Pickett/James Brown), Leroy Romans (Third World / The Wailers), and Tim Archibald (Peter Wolf / RTZ).A proficient studio musician as well, Quinn provided the critically-acclaimed guitar work on Candlebox’s last album Disappearing In Airports, which debuted at #9 on the Billboard Charts, as well as the 2017 release of Disappearing Live. He most recently contributed his axe-work to Candlebox’s forthcoming album Wolves, which is slated for a September 2021 release and has also lent his guitar skills to a myriad of artists across multiple genres of music.During his career, Quinn shared the stage with such acts as: Ozzy Osbourne, Slash’s Snakepit, Gene Simmons, Metallica, Kid Rock, Disturbed, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sixx AM, Chevelle, 3 Doors Down, Seether, Sevendust, Three Days Grace, Candlebox, Tantric, Shinedown, Robert Randolph & The Family, Alter Bridge, Godsmack, Taproot, Nonpoint, Mudvayne, Deftones, Zakk Wylde, Black Label Society, Buckcherry, Warren Haynes, Marshall Tucker, Devo, Finger Eleven, and the House Of Blues All-Stars (with whom he performed alongside rock legends Jeffrey “Skunk” Baxter of Doobie Bros & Steely Dan, Fran Sheehan and Barry Goudreau of Boston, drum phenom Kenny Aranoff (John Mellecamp, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty), Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morrisette), and James Montgomery of Johnny Winter fame).Quinn is currently endorsed by Gibson Guitars, D'Addario Strings, Planet Waves Accessories, The Rock Slide by the Songhurst Guitar Company, and LPS Clothing. For our 40th episode we chat with Austin-based guitarist, singer and songwriter, Jelly Ellington. Originally from Asheville, NC, Jelly took an early interest in music after being exposed to the Los Angeles guitar quartet. He began playing classical guitar at age seven and eventually gravitated to electric guitar after hearing Led Zeppelin as a teen. Jelly has been a staple of the Austin music scene since relocating in 2011, he has shared the stage and recorded with Grammy Award-winning artists, and was voted Top 10 Best Guitarist by the Austin Music Awards for both 2018 and 2019. We talk about the plethora of amazing artists Austin's scene has to offer, the recent snowpocalypse, the effects the pandemic has had on venues, some iconic spots in the city, and get a little backstory on Jelly's gorgeous meaty blue Les Paul. Other topics include Netflix shows, standup comics, influences and gear, Boogie Nights and Glory (go watch it), and Tiger Woods' peculiar facial expressions. Skunk insults "artists" he doesn't approve of (as usual), and Jelly confesses to a dirty little bro country secret and "dumps" a zinger of story on us. Jelly currently records and performs both original music and plays with the Zeppelin tribute band Dancing Days. He also recently collaborated and recorded with Sam Houston Black Odyssey at 512 Studios here in Austin. Since its inception in 2012, Jelly's Monthly Guitar Jam has featured a variety of stellar Texas guitarists and raised nearly 5K for local non-profits such as the SIMS Foundation. Check out the latest EP Butterfly on Spotify or any major streaming platform, and look out for the new 12 song double vinyl album slated for release fall 2021. On this Peter White Interview: Great story of how Peter, who grew up without a phone at home, wound up touring the world many times over - as a sideman with Al Stewart, and as a solo artist. How his brother burned down their bedroom and wound up starting Peter’s love for acoustic guitar… Important lessons learned from working with Alan Parsons & Earl Klugh, meeting Jimmy Page & Paul McCartney, working at Abbey Road Studios, bringing joy to others, feeling more comfortable with yourself, why “Don’t think, just play” should be every musician’s mantra. AWESOME convo with a kind and lovely artist Peter White played guitar and keyboards with Al Stewart, and co wrote a couple of Al’s hits over a 20 year period, opening for Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel and Queen. He then launched a successful solo career, releasing over a dozen LPs and playing guitar as a side man on dozens of other records. He’s toured the world many times over and was named Best Guitarist at the National Smooth Jazz Awards, 4 years in a row. There's two types of guitarists. Like Blackmore, I used to hate, because I met him once at the Rainbow with John Bonham when we were just playing clubs. You know, I grew up on him too, and I ran over and said hello, and they both just looked at me and said, "Who are you? Fuck off." And it pissed me off. And to this day I remember that. And then just recently Rainbow played at Long Beach Arena. This is right after I won Best Guitarist [in the Guitar Player Reader's Poll], which I'm real honoured - makes me feel good. Backing traditional Appalachian melodies and haunting old time tunes with fresh harmonies and a progressive drive, she lends a new feel to seemingly "old" tunes, while accompanying pure and heartfelt vocals with the unpretentious sound of the Appalachian dulcimer. WoodSongs Kid: David Robb is a talented 12-year-old mountain dulcimer musician from Evansville, Indiana.
T True Violet, comprised of members Jessie Covets (vocals/keys/guitar), Alayna Miller (bass/Vocals), Kayla Miller (drums/Vocals), and Shae Padilla (Guitar), True Violet is an alternative/pop all-girl band. In 2012 Jessie, along with sisters Kayla and Alayna, moved across the country from Florida, to take the next step in their music career. Broke, and a little scared, they armed themselves with instruments and made Los Angeles their home. Now complete with Los Angeles native guitarist Shae Padilla, True Violet is taking the music scene by storm. In their short time on the west coast, they’ve already headlined shows at legendary venues such as The Viper Room, The Roxy, Dresden, House of Blues, and The Chameleon Club. We have their album and will play cuts from it and talk with the band. Austin Texas-based Jeff Plankenhorn, long the go-to guitarist for Texas music stars, offers an such an incredibly varied range of styles that he was called the “chameleon of performing” by Emily Robison of The Dixie Chicks. “Plank”, as he is known, blends the soulful vocals of the church, Motown, and funk with bluegrass and rock into an intoxicating sound that spans them all. In just released his debut album, Soulside, Plank steps out solo on his trademark stand-up steel lap guitar, backed by a red-hot Texas band and many guest appearances by Grammy-winning stars. Plus, Athena, the golden-voiced star of the UK and Greece now in LA csutting her first album for the US market drops by.
The Portland-based band My Brothers and I are often called “Northwest Soul” for the melodic, soulful, and danceable music influenced by pop, hip-hop, the blues, Motown, funk and soul. they The three brothers and two friends quintet initially released a digital EP, Live Sessions and have just released their debut first full-length LP, Don’t Dream Alone. They are bringing it with them for the show this Friday and we will play cuts ...a radio first. Texas-based guitarist Van Wilks has won Best Guitarist for both electric and acoustic and Best Blues-Rock Band four years running in the Austin Chronicle music poll. He is not stopping – he just released his first studio album in 10 years, 21st Century Blues, and has gigs booked almost every night until July. No wonder – when critics call 21st Century Blues the best “rock” album and it really bluesis blues and the band is compared to ZZ Top and Bad Company, you know you are in the presence of greatness on a guitar.
