Seven years after his original appearance on Mental Health News Radio, artist and author Motesem Mansur returns with an update on his life, his art, and the journey from surviving difficult environments to finding stability, purpose, and peace. He shares how leaving unsafe situations transformed his mental health, how becoming an artist-in-residence helped him rebuild his life, and why creating art remains one of the most important ways he regulates his mind and emotions. Together, we talk about autism, schizoaffective disorder, creativity, reality testing, faith, healing, family relationships, and the role that art plays in helping us make sense of our inner worlds. His work can be found through the Intuit Art Museum in Chicago, Illinois, where he donates artwork that is sold to support the museum's mission. Listeners can also learn more about him by searching his name online and exploring his connections with Intuit Art Museum and Sertoma Star Services. This conversation is a reminder that sometimes the biggest transformation isn't becoming someone new. Sometimes it's finally finding a place where you can safely be yourself.Motesem Mansur was born on January 28, 1986, in Chicago, IL. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Motesem developed mental illness at the age of 12. He dropped out of high school at 16 after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.Motesem chose art and writing after getting his GED at the age of 17. He describes himself as an outsider artist and an independent writer. He draws from fantasy and sometimes surprises people with captivating drawings, with excellent color schemes and details. He compares them to video and computer games. Motesem's writings are informal and told in his own words. He graduated from Sertoma Centre's PSR program in 2012. He was a self published author, but his books are no longer in print. He was a guest speaker for Illinois schools from 2011-17. From 2017-22, Motesem was hospitalized 11 times. Motesem talks about being let go from Project Onward, a studio he worked for from 2010-22."The place was a rat race and a greed game with very low pay, I hated it. The staff didn't know what they were doing. When the studio that I worked for let me go, it was a blessing in disguise. Things got better. I've been out of the psych ward since 2022. I left an unhealthy environment. My mind is clear now, and I donate to charity and volunteer my time instead. I'm glad I left that horrible studio for good,"Nowadays, he lives at Lakefront Nursing Home in Chicago, IL. He donates artwork to the Intuit Art Museum in Chicago. He also volunteers his time to Sertoma Star Services, donating raffle items for events. Motesem still fits in the autism spectrum criteria.Personal website: https://www.artpal.com/moe8628Intuit Art Museum756 N. Stacy has descended a new rabbit hole that makes this episode even more exciting than usual; however, it's a Cultural Blindspot so she's forced to wait to share even though it's become her LIFE. Speaking of holes, Eric continues to recover from his dental surgery with his tooth hole intact. He and “the Girlfriend” did something perhaps no one has ever done, they crashed into a bird enroute home from Veranda Beach – a traumatizing experience all around. On the same ride he realized his car's data center wasn't working thus begins “The early Morning Plight of the Chevy Blazer.” Other than Mexican food and avoiding grocery shopping Stacy's highlight in banana Laffy Taffy (which leads to a conversation about the excellent candy selection at Dollarama in Canada. For their CBS (cultural blindspots), not to be confused with IBS, Stacy finally gets to discuss the cultural phenomenon that is the true crime documentary. From MacKenzie Shirilla to Elizabeth Smart with Moriah Wilson for good measure, Stacy is hooked! To redeem herself she watches What Ever Happened to Baby Jane which essentially had a fictional true crime plot with the iconic real-life rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. It was a wild ride and like no other day at the beach! Perhaps inspired by his trip to Canada, Eric watched Strange Brew, a precursor to movies like Wayne's World. To balance out the shenanigans he also watched GlenGarry Glen Ross which featured an A-list cast including our old pals Al Pacino and Jack Lemmon. He gave both movies two thumbs sideways. As for the topic of the week, it was trivia time, a surprisingly fun time to learn they know nothing! In this episode, we continue our series "God Is Up To Something!" by diving into the transition from the earthly ministry of Jesus to the birth of the early church. We explore why Jesus told His disciples it was actually to their advantage that He leave so that the Holy Spirit could come. What We Cover: The Promise of Power: Understanding Acts 1:8 and how the Holy Spirit empowers believers to be witnesses from their local neighborhoods to the ends of the earth. The Spirit's Identity: How the Holy Spirit is God in Spirit form, fulfilling Jesus' promise to be with us always. Practical Help: A look at the five ways the Spirit assists us today: in prayer, as a guide, in witnessing, as a comfort, and as the sustainer of life. The Spirit's Work in the World: Exploring the "legal" work of the Spirit in convicting the world regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment. The same power that launched the early church is available to you today. Join us as we learn how to walk in the leading of the Holy Spirit and fulfill our unique calling in this generation. The best way you can support our ministry is by sharing this podcast with your friends and family!
Today we look at what it means to be a man. Not the idea of a man's man like the world admires, but what the Bible teaches about manhood. Wayne Braudrick undertook a series on biblical manhood at his church in the Dallas area and later published his work in this short but interesting work. Today men are judged by their adolescent like behavior and unwillingness to grow up. Wayne focuses in on the behavior of biblical manhood. Such a real man keeps his word. Real men keep their focus on what is important and five other areas of concern. Please listen to Wayne as he explains to us the Bibles call to manhood. We, Scott and Gabe, need to know if you guys like the content. Thirty years with the same man. Kids. A suburban life. A career built on celebrating the best in people. And a question that never fully goes away: am I gay enough? Randy Jones, speaker, author, podcaster, and self-described professional storyteller, has spent decades navigating the space between gay communities that questioned his credentials and straight communities that accepted him without conditions. He and Rick get honest about what it costs to feel like you never fully belong anywhere, why gay culture built its own velvet rope, and what it actually means to own your gay identity when it does not look like what anyone expected. Key Takeaways: Why gay men judge each other's gayness and what that says about the community we builtHow living a suburban family life as a gay man creates a specific kind of identity confusionWhat it means to be more accepted in straight spaces than gay ones and why that stingsWhy the question am I gay enough never fully goes away even after decades of being outHow aging in the LGBTQ+ community forces a reckoning with who you actually are versus who the community wants you to be About Randall Randall Kenneth Jones is a high-energy speaker, author, and podcaster, known for emphasizing the best in people. This is report of the first episode of our new series "Rocked". This repost includes an extended introduction that sets the stage for the series and little bit more about our host, Larah Nimoi. In every small town, there's a disappearance people still whisper about — a name that lingers, a moment that changed everything. Rocked follows one woman's relentless journey to uncover the truth behind those who vanished under unsettling, often overlooked circumstances. Each episode digs into a different case: the people who went missing, the secrets left behind, and the communities forever shaken by their absence. Through interviews, investigation, and a deeply personal search for answers, Rocked explores how these mysteries ripple through families, friendships, and entire towns long after the headlines fade. This podcast series is about the stories that refuse to stay buried — and the determination to finally bring them into the light. EPISODE 1 — “Whatever Happened to the High Plains Hottie?” A young woman vanished from a bar outside St. Paul in 1982 — and her case has haunted me for years. In our debut episode, I return to the disappearance that started it all, reopening the mystery of who she was, what happened that night, and why her story never let me go.
What happens when a forgotten piece of Church history becomes a personal calling? In this episode of Latter-Day Lights, Sherrie Dunford shares the story of her ancestor, Dr. Frederick G. Williams—early Church leader, counselor to Joseph Smith, physician, and one of the most misunderstood figures of the Restoration.Through spiritual promptings and years of research, Sherrie felt compelled to finally tell the story of a man whose faith endured hardship, loss, and public misconception with her book, “Whatever Happened to Frederick G.?”As she retraces Frederick G. Williams' life, Sherrie reflects on the sacrifices of the early Saints, the realities of Kirtland and Missouri, and the quiet humility that defined her ancestor's legacy. This conversation is a moving look at perseverance, loyalty, and the power of remembering the stories that shaped the founding of the Church.*** Please SHARE Sherrie's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode on YouTube, visit: https://youtu.be/LfhGN2l5Wfg-----To READ Sherrie's book, “Whatever Happened to Frederick G.?” visit: https://a.co/d/043THKOuTo LEARN MORE about Sherrie's work, visit: https://www.sherriefarrdunford.comTo READ “The Life of Frederick G. The Superhero Show #620Fantastic Four: The Origin of the Fantastic FourThe Superhero Show — Origin of the Fantastic FourThis week, The Superhero Show kicks off a brand-new series as the hosts dive into the 1994 animated classic Fantastic Four. In this premiere episode, they break down Episode 1.01, “Origin of the Fantastic Four,” exploring how the show introduces Marvel's first family and sets the tone for what's to come. It's a mix of first impressions, character analysis, and plenty of laughs as the crew begins their latest comic book TV journey.Origin of the Fantastic Four: A Classic BeginningThe hosts start with a full recap of “Origin of the Fantastic Four,” walking through the familiar but always fun story of how Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm gain their powers. From the fateful space mission to the cosmic rays that change their lives forever, they break down how the animated series handles this iconic origin. They discuss pacing, storytelling choices, and how effectively the episode introduces each member of the team. There's plenty of attention paid to the tone—whether it leans more into camp or sincerity—and how that impacts the viewing experience right out of the gate.Origin of the Fantastic Four: Meet Marvel's First FamilyNext, the conversation shifts to characterizations. The hosts dig into Reed's leadership, Sue's presence (and how the show handles her powers), Johnny's hotshot energy, and Ben's emotional core as The Thing. They compare these portrayals to other versions of the Fantastic Four across media, pointing out where the show succeeds and where it already shows signs of early inconsistency. First impressions matter, and the hosts don't hold back when discussing which characters work best in this debut—and which might need some time to grow.First Impressions: Camp, Chaos, and PotentialWith the origin story covered, the hosts zoom out to share their overall thoughts on the episode as a series premiere. Is this a strong start? Does it capture what makes the Fantastic Four special? Or does it fall into some of the pitfalls common to 90s animated adaptations? This segment blends critique with optimism, as they look ahead to what the show might improve on—and what they hope to see more of as the series continues.A Modern Take: Ryan North's Fantastic FourIn the second half of the episode, the hosts shift from animation to comics, diving into Ryan North's Fantastic Four run—specifically Vol. 1: Whatever Happened to the Fantastic Four. They explore how this modern take on the team compares to the 90s animated version, highlighting North's focus on character-driven storytelling, humor, and creative sci-fi concepts. The discussion touches on how the comic reimagines the team dynamic, balances standalone adventures with emotional depth, and why it has resonated so strongly with readers. It's a great contrast: the origins of the team in animation versus a fresh, contemporary interpretation in comics.Final Thoughts — Origin of the Fantastic FourBy the end of the episode, The Superhero Show delivers a strong and entertaining kickoff to their Fantastic Four coverage. From revisiting “Origin of the Fantastic Four” to exploring a modern comic run, the hosts set the stage for a series that promises plenty of analysis, nostalgia, and debate.Whether you're a longtime fan of Marvel's first family or jumping in for the first time, this episode offers the perfect starting point for the journey ahead. Are You a Ressearch Nerd Who's Looking For More? Here are some links for all your research wants and needs!1994 Fantastic Four Animated SeriesRyan North's Fantastic FourJoin the discussions online! 1994 Fantastic Four Animated Series, Ryan North's Fantastic FourCatch Up On Past Episodes!Missed any of our past episodes? Welcome Back to Make Mine Multiversity: A Marvel Podcast! Each episode we'll be looking at Marvel books, old and new! We discuss fun Marvel comics, Marvel news, Marvel history and, now, are putting the "mine" back into Make Mine Multiversity. For those who're new, each month I talk with a guest about a Marvel comic that's memorable to them. Sometimes they're personally meaningful, sometimes it's "I read this a few months ago and its still sticking around."This month I welcome on Colleen Venable to discuss a comic I vaguely knew existed but didn't realize how much of it there was: "Alf." From sitcom star to comics "hero," it's everyone's favorite Melman. The two issues Colleen chose were, thankfully for me, X-men related.I'm not going to try to do any of the puns Alf is known for. I think it might do my head in.For some bonafides, Colleen is a comics writer and former designer for First Second Books. She's written "Kiss Number 8," the "Katie the Catsitter" series and is now writing the "Junie B. Jones" adaptations with art by Honie Beam (oh hey, there's an interview about that.)Next time: "Fantastic Four" (2022) #1-6 aka the start of the current era with Ryan North. Science! Comedy! Existential angst! You can find it collected as "Fantastic Four, Vol. 1: Whatever Happened to the Fantastic Four?" or on Marvel Unlimited.Elias can be found writing here at eliasrwrites.ghost.io. Dickens in Brooklyn is a virtuoso collection of unusual, compelling essays in which critically acclaimed and award-winning author Jay Neugeboren explores experiences that have been central to his life: caring long-term for a brother with mental illness; finding and connecting with long-lost family members; a posthumous lunch with Oliver Sacks; his years as single parent to his three children; his decision as a General Motors executive trainee to violate company policy and hang out with "hourlies;" a thwarted kiss at a teenage summer camp where he was a young Jewish man in exile among Jews.Neugeboren is the author most recently of Whatever Happened to Frankie King and twenty-three other prize-winning works of fiction and nonfiction. His essays have been recently published in The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, The American Scholar, Los Angeles Review of Books, Tablet, and Commonweal, and are here collected for the first time.
This week on the Little House 50 Podcast, we leave Walnut Grove for the bustling metropolis of Milwaukee—where, apparently, high school reunions were just as awkward in the 1800s as they are now.Charles Ingalls is in town representing Hero Township at the Grange convention, while Caroline Ingalls attends her 25th high school reunion. Reconnecting with old classmates, they quickly realize… maybe not everyone aged gracefully—emotionally speaking. On the Grange side, Charles discovers that large, wealthy farming operations are beginning to squeeze out the small farmers. And as expected, he is absolutely not having it. He launches into full speech mode, urging his fellow farmers to stand up, push back, and protect their way of life. Prairie union rep energy, activated.Meanwhile, Caroline is taking in the reunion scene and noticing a pattern: sure, her former classmates may have money and status, but they also seem deeply unhappy—and, in some cases, a little too eager for attention. (Can we say "Thirst trap on the Prairie"?!) Envy quickly gives way to clarity, as she realizes these “success stories” come with some serious cracks. As the episode unfolds, it becomes clear that appearances are doing a lot of heavy lifting. Carolina's marriage is strained and unfulfilling, Amy's polished life slips when she makes a bold—and very inappropriate—move on Charles, and Dylan's financial success comes paired with some major red flags, revealing a darker, more controlling side.By the end, the Ingallses walk away with a renewed appreciation for the life they've built—proving that integrity and love beat a flashy façade any day.Join us as we unpack farmer politics, comparison spirals, and why turning off that bedroom light felt incredibly satisfying—and fully earned. Then, join us on Patreon, where we spill the beans on our own personal High School Reunion stories--the good, the bad, and the ugly!Links and Resources:Haven't signed up for Patreon yet? City detectives figured he must have run away, but Kate had a deep-rooted instinct: he must have been killed. Kate, her mother, and her younger sister were left stunned, with no answers, no explanation, and no concrete resolution on the horizon. Twenty years later in New York, Kate is determined to unearth the truth. She reopens the investigation with the Baltimore police department, tracks down retired detectives who'd worked on Eddy's case, and chases leads with old friends through the dark back alleys of her hometown, dead set on finding solace, for her family and herself. The novelist/journalist talks about the theme of her latest novel ‘Whatever Happened to Madeline Stone'- fame, family and the dark side of child stardom. She also discusses her own experiences with being in the public eye, eating disorders, social media and the impossibly high standards expected of women.
Author Louise O'Neill is back with her sixth novel, Whatever Happened to Madeline Stone? It's a gripping page‑turner about the dark side of the entertainment industry, focusing on child star twins Madeline and Chelsea, who grow up in the spotlight under the tight grip of their controlling mother, Erin. In today's episode, O'Neill joins Róisín Ingle to discuss toxic celebrity culture, the treatment of women in the media and how these themes inspired the story. She also speaks about her own experiences of fame, why she believes in fate, and how life has gotten even better since turning 40.But first, Irish Times opinion editor Jennifer O'Connell joins us to discuss some of the biggest stories of the week, including the woman making history aboard the Artemis space mission and how an initiative in Northern Ireland is helping hairdressers spot signs of coercive control. Skyhooks – Living in the 70s (1974) | 70s Rock Deep DiveWhat if the most important rock album of 1974 never made it out of its home country? In Australia, Skyhooks' debut Living in the 70s was a cultural earthquake — 16 weeks at #1, the highest-selling Australian album of its time, six songs banned from commercial radio, and a bill where AC/DC and Split Ends opened for them. Outside Australia? Complete silence for fifty years.Jason, Tim, and Chip dig into this theatrical, bass-driven, gloriously weird debut from Melbourne's most provocative band — a record that sounds like Alice Cooper, Rocky Horror, Black Oak Arkansas, and a cosmic cowboy walked into a pub and decided to start a glam rock band. It's not what you'd expect from 1974 Australian rock. That's exactly the point. If you love Alice Cooper, Slade, Alex Harvey, early Cheap Trick, or any band that traded guitar heroics for theatrical swagger, this episode is for you.• 0:00 — Intro — This week on Dig Me Out: 70s and 80s rock. Four albums entered the listener poll. One won both — with a tiebreaker. Welcome to Australia.• 1:07 — How the Album Won — The poll breakdown: Detective (1977), Hurriganes' Roadrunner (1974), Thundermug's Thundermug Strikes (1972), and Skyhooks' Living in the 70s (1974). It tied with Detective on the website. It tied with Thundermug on Patreon. Skyhooks won both. Community member Eric Peterson suggested it — then voted against it. Classic.• 3:10 — Australian Correspondent Gavin Weighs In — The band's backstory, straight from someone who actually grew up with this record. Singer Shirley Strachan's wild post-band career (children's television, home renovation hosting, a fatal helicopter crash in 2001). Guitarist Red Simons' 28 years gonging amateurs off stage on Hey Hey It's Saturday. These were not conventional rock band trajectories.• 6:43 — Album History and Chart Context — October 1974, Mushroom Records, produced by Ross Wilson. 16 weeks at #1. Highest-selling Australian album of its time. “Horror Movie” hit #1 on the National Singles Chart in 1975. Listed #9 in 100 Best Australian Albums. Over 475,000 copies and counting. The numbers behind the record that North America never heard.• 11:02 — Community Comments from the Poll — Listener reactions from the Patreon and Discord, including a debate about whether Hurricanes would have been the first Finnish band covered on the show (it wouldn't have been), and the Led Zeppelin/John Bonham drumming-on-a-secret-album conspiracy theory that surrounds the Detective record.• 13:28 — What Works: Jay's Take — The record is nothing like what you'd expect. Bass-driven, not guitar-forward. Theatrical song-as-set-piece writing. A vocalist who sounds — on first listen — like a woman, then like Alice Cooper, then like something you genuinely can't categorize. This album sounds like 70s AM radio in all the ways classic rock nostalgia forgets.• 20:26 — What Works: Chip's Take — Full-face makeup, banned lyrics, and a sound that was aggressively transgressive in conservative 1974 Australia — even if it doesn't register that way in 2026. The theatrical context matters. Watching live performances from the era makes the whole thing click. Think Alex Harvey, early Alice Cooper, pre-MTV showmanship.• 24:00 — “Living in the 70s” and “Whatever Happened to the Revolution” — The title track ages itself but holds up as a hook. Track two is a boogie-groove gut punch that sounds like Dangerous Toys discovered Black Oak Arkansas. If you played this song cold before one of the 80s metal episodes, nobody would have guessed it was from 1974 Australia.• 25:48 — “Carlton (Lygon Street Limbo)” — Hyper-local Melbourne geography meets Caribbean rhythm meets bluesy guitar. Lyrically opaque to anyone who's never been to Carlton, but sonically one of the record's most surprising moments.• 29:54 — The Concert Bill That Rewrites History — At the height of their commercial peak, Skyhooks headlined a show. AC/DC and Split Ends (later Crowded House) opened for them. Three completely different bands, three completely different futures — and Skyhooks had top billing. The footnote that reframes everything.• 31:56 — “Horror Movie” — The Great Disguise — It's not about horror movies. It's about the 6:30 news. The song that became a dancefloor hit by weaponizing social commentary — murders, fires, and violence packaged and broadcast into Australian living rooms every evening. The twist lands. The repetition getting there is a genuine debate.• 38:44 — What Doesn't Work — All three hosts wanted more guitar grit. The record sits in a power-pop middle ground when it could have gone full glam bombast or full distorted rock. Some songs lean too hard on lyrical repetition. “Motorcycle B***h” opens a door it never fully walks through. The hooks are quirky, not cathartic — and for a certain kind of listener, that's a dealbreaker.• 42:12 — “Smut” — The Song That Out-Smutted the 80s — Of everything covered in months of hair metal and 80s sleaze rock, this 1974 Australian track made the hosts blush harder than anything else. An ode to the adult cinema experience in graphic detail. This one got banned from radio. Correctly.• 50:52 — Final Ratings — Jay: EP (“Living in the 70s,” “Whatever Happened to the Revolution,” “Horror Movie,” “You Just Like Me Because I'm Good in Bed,” “Carlton,” “Smut”). Chip: Decent Single (“Living in the 70s,” “Whatever Happened to the Revolution,” “Carlton”). Tim: EP (“Living in the 70s,” “Whatever Happened to the Revolution,” “You Just Like Me Because I'm Good in Bed,” “Carlton,” “Motorcycle B***h”).• 54:47 — Outro and Credits — Thanks to listener Eric Peterson for the suggestion. A reminder that the Aughts are the hottest category in listener voting right now — so if you're submitting a 2000s pick, your odds are slim. For everyone else? The 70s and 80s polls are wide open.
Hello once again party people. On this week's episode, the Fanboys reminisce about the life and times of one Chuck Norris, and then in our main subject, we talk about some forgotten figures in pop culture. Who were they? Where did they go? What are they up to now? How many of them joined cults? All that and more! (sidenote: Harold is wrong about which DeLuise was in Wayne's World and Encino Man. It was Michael, not David. David was in the Wizard's of Waverly Place and had a random scene in Vampires Suck. If he was allowed to use the internet, he wouldn't have made that mistake).

This is the third piece in an ongoing series we've dubbed “Whatever happened to…?” Modern news cycles routinely highlight emerging stories with warnings of dire consequences or large societal shifts, but just as often, those stories fade away without a clear conclusion or follow up. As part of Tangle's efforts to model more constructive journalism, we've launched this series as a way to shed light on the big stories we've forgotten about and explore why the media's initial coverage didn't match up with the eventual outcome. Our first two pieces covered the 2022 baby formula shortage and the 2023 forecast of the Great Salt Lake's imminent collapse. Today, we're covering the 2017 repeal of net neutrality. As always, we'd love to hear what you think about this story and series — and your ideas for future installments. — Will Kaback, Senior EditorAd-free podcasts are here!To listen to this podcast ad-free, and to enjoy our subscriber only premium content, go to ReadTangle.com to sign up!You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Episode 969 explores how politicians and media use vague phrases like "the American people," "the voters," and "the public" without anyone agreeing on what these terms actually mean. Driftglass and Blue Gal trace these polyfunctional words through American history, from Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth to Nixon's "silent majority" and today's political battles over who gets to speak for the nation. They examine how these phrases do political work rather than descriptive work, often excluding people while claiming to represent everyone. The episode reveals why this ambiguous language matters so much in the ongoing fight over American democracy and who counts as part of "we the people."Stay in Touch!
