Jak to jest iść przez świat nieutartymi ścieżkami? Dlaczego warto zaufać sobie i zająć się w życiu tym, co ma się w sercu? Zoja Skubis to podróżniczka, miłośniczka gór, biegaczka i ...rolkarka. Przebywa właśnie w Airzone- centrum wysokościowym, gdzie śpiąc i trenując przygotowuje swój organizm w kontrolowanych warunkach wysokogórskich do tych himalajskich. Skąd Zoja bierze inspirację do stawiania sobie coraz to ciekawszych i bardziej odważnych celów? Jakie jeszcze marzenia chce spełnić? Serdecznie zapraszamy do wysłuchania rozmowy! I'm coaching a client on her TEDx Talk and she says, “Kymberlee, I don't know if I can get through this story I'm telling. Every single time I get to a certain part, I start crying and I can't even stop!” Having an emotional response like that means you're very present in your storytelling - which is what you want! So I tell her, “Try refocusing on your audience while you're telling the story. How can you serve them?” In other words, focus on what the audience needs and take care of them instead of focusing internally on yourself. She tries it and… it changes everything! She can share her stories with minimal tears while in service to her audience. My special guest today, Eric Hodgdon, is all too familiar with telling hard stories. In this episode, he's here to share his incredibly valuable perspective on that side of storytelling and answer questions like: How do you know your story is the right one to tell? How can you conclude hard stories for your audience? And how can you prepare yourself to deliver a difficult story to an audience? What you will learn in this episode: How telling difficult stories can help you and others heal How to know when you're ready to share a difficult story How to keep your story fresh and lively through repeated rehearsals Who is Eric? Sirius the dog star is punished for a mysterious murder by being trapped in an earthly pup form - and his only way back to his galaxy is to find the enigmatic Zoi that he threw down to Earth. Leave it to DWJ to make this conceit at turns heartbreaking, hilarious and ultimately bittersweet. Madeleine maintains that for those similarly traumatized by The Tigger Movie, this is a tough read. Enneagram 8s are legendary for having a powerful energy that sometimes enters the room before they do. They do everything with gusto, including their propensity to measure everything as strong vs. weak—even themselves. So, they avoid being vulnerable at all costs, often choosing to share their stories of frailty only after the fact. But other Enneagram types can see this take no prisoners, no slowing down charge as lacking in compassion. For the 8, it sometimes lacks connection. So how can Enneagram 8s stop being so independent and lean into vulnerability and compassion to enjoy deeper relationships and more in-depth experiences? Today on the show, my client and friend Zoi Jones joins me to walk us through her life as an Enneagram Type 8. She shares how her intense 8 energy helped her hold three jobs while working her way through law school and helps her level up her business as Partner in a personal injury law firm. She'll walk us through her favorite thing about being an Enneagram 8 mom to three children under five. Plus, how using the all the tools of the Enneagram (especially her 7 Wing) has helped her lead with more compassion while walking with her husband as he transitions in his career. My guest on this week's episode is Zoi Jones, an old client and now a friend, who's here with some wonderful stories about how she handles being an entrepreneur, a businesswoman, and a mom all at the same time. I also wanted to have Zoi on because she's a personal injury lawyer, and she's going to give us some tips about what to do if you have an auto accident and need help. The Finer Details of This Episode: Zoi's wanted to be an attorney since she was five years old, growing up with an attorney dad and her mom running the family law firm. When she was just about to start law school, people started telling her that she'd have to choose between being a lawyer and having a family—something that surprised her since both her parents were very hands-on despite being involved in the law business. Zoi still feels pulled in all different directions but knows that it's impossible to do everything herself and has worked hard to maintain a balance and create non-negotiables for career and family time. It took a lot of trial and error for Zoi to figure out her non-negotiables, as well as coming to terms with asking for help when she needed it. Her moment of revelation came when her sister saw her struggling with her third pregnancy, two kids, and a heavy workload and suggested hiring a nanny. Zoi was uncomfortable with it at first, even working from home to keep an eye on what was happening, but eventually gave herself permission to accept that help. The best thing I ever did for my business was hiring a bookkeeper because it let me focus on doing the things I'm good at—podcasts and Instagram videos and working with clients—and avoid the things that are my idea of hell—spreadsheets and numbers. You can do this at home, too—hire someone to come in and do your laundry or play with your kids so you can get your tasks done. Zoi points out that home help can be really useful in helping you to transition from work mode to home mode—the twenty minutes she gets to herself when her nanny picks her kids up from school lets her take her lawyer hat off and put her mom hat on and really be excited for her kids to come home. Zoi also gets up about twenty minutes before her kids to get that little bit of me-time by doing some quick meditation. Sometimes her son gets up a little earlier and sits with her until she's done, which works as modeling meditation for him. Mindfulness is such a buzzword right now, but it's largely empty because parents don't model it but instead run around like headless chickens. In order to model effectively, you have to be consistent and put in the work yourself. Zoi has made a goal for herself to educate families to have the proper insurance for themselves so they can feel more confident on the roads in case they're ever involved in an accident. Zoi says that the top things to do if you're in an auto accident are: call the police regardless of how bad the accident is, take photos (of the vehicles, the other driver's license, and their insurance info), and go to the doctor even if you think you're okay (to stop your insurance company from questioning your injuries if they flare up later). The other important thing is to hire an attorney to be in your corner and take care of you because insurance companies are in the business of making money, and they will take advantage instead of getting you the best result. Declutter Your Homeschool "We all have a clutter story. Physical Clutter Emotional Clutter Relationship Clutter Time Clutter Digital Clutter We all have some form of clutter in our lives. Because as life happens, we take things in, we build stories and relationships with these items and then there comes a time when it runs its course and we are moving to a new faze in life...and so we have to learn how to let things go. Sometimes that's difficult." Jaycel Murphy This episode was originally recorded in my club, Honey! I'm Homeschooling on the Clubhouse app. Jaycel Murphy is a former social worker, Neurolinguistic programming coach and Elite Declutter Coach. She supports people in decluttering their homes and their lives. Her goal is to normalize the conversation around clutter to address the stigmas associated, and lessen feelings of shame, guilt and overwhelm. Decluttering and Deschooling Jaycel joined Tira Hunter and myself for a discussion on decluttering our homeschool. This conversation brought us deep into the idea that decluttering is not just about our physical space. Decluttering, like Deschooling, is tied to our mental and emotional space. The lines of decluttering and deschooling are interwoven with the idea of letting go of beliefs that have served us for a certain time or purpose but that may no longer fit with our core values. These two practices are deeply tied to society and cultural expectations and the narratives we carry. We stress that there is no right and wrong. It's all a part of the journey. In This Episode In this episode our wonderful conversation explores: Decluttering and Values- Our values informs everything that we bring into our lives and what we hold on to. The first step to decluttering (and deschooling) begins with our core values and belief system Are you a homeschool resource hoarder? Why is it so hard to let go of our kids old artwork? Why is it so hard to let go of clutter. How do we know what is meaningful and what to let go of? Tips on organizing and decluttering your space Defining Clutter The relationship between overconsumption, procrastination and clutter Large family? So Many things? Overwhelmed? Will the family be part of the process? What are the tools to make it easier. Setting Physical and Emotional Boundaries Maintaining emotional ground zero with other peoples stuff The difference between hoarding and collecting What's Your Clutter Story? So what's your clutter story? What practices and expectations not longer match your core values? What are your core values? Ashley Stuart also joined our conversation.

Supporting Passions and Unschooling to Adulthood The Hunter family began their unschooling journey over 9 years ago. Tira Hunter says that "the benefits of unschooling put her daughter on a path to have a career in art and the freedom to pursue her passions on her own terms." Zoi Hunter is now 19 years old and a full-time commissioned artist. Zoi and her mother, Tira joined me on this episode to talk about their path to unschooling. They also share what they were able to reclaim along the way. Supporting Passions and Unschooling to Adulthood- What You'll Hear In This Episode You'll probably notice as you listen to this episode that Tira is a friend of mine. We met online and became fast friends, sharing our fears, joys and continuous Deschooling with each other. As moms to Unschooled teens that are extremely focused on personal passions, we connected. Knowing Tira and Zoi's journey, I was excited that they came on the show. Their story is so real and inspiring that I know parents will appreciate hearing it. And to hear them share this story together makes it even more impactful. "I was a nervous wreck." Tira keeps it real. She is extremely honest about the struggles and fears she has had on this journey. As she says, the person in their family that had the hardest time Deschooling was.. her. In this episode you'll hear their story from Academic public school to unschooling. Actually, their path went from public school to "school at home" homeschooling to unschooling. Tira did what many of us do, repeat what we know, even if it is no longer serving us. What we know is usually school. It wasn't until they were absolutely miserable that Zoi's dad suggested a change. Tira scaled back, stepped back and tried this unschooling thing. Zoi was ready for change. You'll hear how and why self directed learning was the best match for her, how it shifted their family dynamic and helped Tira to let go of her "schoolish" ideas. But How Do Grown Unschoolers Actually Find A Job Or Get Into College? Tira shares a wonderful story in this episode of when Unschooling finally "clicked" for her. She saw her apply what she was doing to life. Zoi had a task to complete and found an ingenious solution to a problem on her own because of the time she had to experiment, research and test. (The Dish Soap Story ;) ) From there, the time and space Zoi had allowed her to explore art. And Zoi's interest in Art and creating took off. Art became Zoi's passion, her full circle unschooling journey. Zoi and Tira share how art has been Zoi's path to business and the broader world. We talk about the steps and mentors she has found along the way and the opportunities that opened up for her through unschooling. Zoi certainly did not follow a traditional path, but that did not hold her back. By stepping out of the traditional path Zoi was able to flourish. If you are interested in unschooling or want to learn more about unschooling as your children get into their older years, this episode is for you. I also recommend the episode Supporting Passions and Unschooling In The Teen Years that features my son and his journey following his passions in unschooling and where it is taking him. Conscious Parenting & Deschooling Re-examining how we live, learn and parent. Welcome to episode 116. This episode is a recording of my December Clubhouse room with Tira Hunter, Erika Kessliman and Missy Willis. Our theme ~ Conscious Parenting and Deschooling goes deeper into our journey of learning and self refelction. Tira Hunter is an unschooling mom to 18 year old Zoi. Tira decided to homeschool Zoi part way through elementary school and after trying to replicate school at home with misery, they found the path to unschooling. With unschooling, Zoi was able to exercise her independence and creativity. Zoi works as a commissioned artist and is currently writing her own comic. Tira is an advocate for the deschooling process. Erica Kesilman is an unschooling mom to 3 children, ages 2, 5 & 7. She is a previous public school educator and is now a certified conscious parenting coach. She feels that conscious parenting and reflection is a necessary part of the deschooling process. Missy Willis is an unschooling mom to her 2 children, ages 19 and 14. They have unschooled for 13 years and counting. She is a former teacher and now supports parents through her writing and conversations at Let 'em Go Barefoot. Deschooling~ A quick definition I define deschooling as the concept of living life and learning outside of the ideas of the traditional institution of school. The idea of learning and school is often synonymous. The belief that is supported is that learning is only done within the walls of the classroom and top down with certain people. Instead we start to look at learning as an internal process, inclusive with community, at different times and stages. Living and learning comes together. Getting comfortable with allowing learning to happen in a different way than we have done it. In This Episode This episodes shares personal reflections from 3 parents that found their way to unschooling and why deschooling has been such an important part of their family's transition from school. This is what you will hear in this episode.... Words that defined our conversation- flexibility, retooling, space, wisdom, power, sovereignty, respect, self worth, trust, connection, worthiness, intentions, values, genius, agency and relationship. What is deschooling and why is it important? What is conscious parenting Conscious parenting practices Where do our beliefs come from? Replicating school at home- School think vs Unschooling & Homeschooling Looking at our values as a family Why homeschooling is nothing like school Exploring freedom for our children and for ourselves What to do when your partner is not on the same page of the deschooling process? October 20 marks exactly seven years since Meduza's launch. And October 23 will mark six months since our newsroom was labeled a "foreign agent." We at Meduza consider this status discriminatory and unlawful -- and we've strived to draw our readers' attention to the impact of ending up on Russia's "foreign agent" registry. In this endeavor, we've had the help of many contemporary artists. Most recently, a well-known, international fashion photographer who goes by the pseudonym Zoi shot photos of Meduza's "foreign agent" merch. Meduza employees and their friends also took part in the shoot. Here are the results. Original Article: https://meduza.io/en/feature/2021/10/20/moving-the-needle

In this episode, I will be chatting with veteran unschooling mom, Tira Hunter. Unschooling is a form of homeschooling that in the past has been misunderstood. I've heard it said that “unschooling is unparenting”. In this episode, we are shattering that misconception and showing how unschooling may actually be the future of education in that it gives kids the freedom to explore topics that interest them and empowers them to develop their passions. Tira will share how unschooling empowered her daughter Zoi, now a homeschool graduate, to become a talented artist and creative, who became a commissioned artist at 13 years old.I invite you to check out Tira's daughter Zoi on Instagram @artbyZoi and on Facebook @Zoi the Creative

Introduction So a few years ago, my friend Nate and I were experimenting with alternate forms of energy. I've been interested in this from my earliest days as a child. And one of the things we stumbled across was people making methane generators from cow manure. So we thought this would be a good idea to try. Now the first experiment was to just see if we could capture the methane gas. All we needed for the experiment was three things: We needed a container We needed a slurry of the material And, since methane bacteria don't like cold, we needed a way to heat it. So for the container we had one of those 5 gallon clear water cooler bottles laying around. For the slurry, we drove to a cow farm and ask the farmer if we could borrow some of his manure. He kindly said we could just keep it. We then filled our container to about 3/4 full with this slurry, and put a cork in it. We drilled a hole for a tube and put a balloon on the end of the tube to capture the gas. For the heat we decided to put it on the roof so that it would slowly bring it up to that 95 degree sweet spot. Well, what we didn't account for was the expansion of the material as the outgassing began to occur. And what happened was the slurry bubbled up and ended up clogging the tube. So Nate and I are sitting down eating lunch and all of a sudden we hear what sounded like a bomb going off and I look out the window and I see water bottle shrapnel ricocheting off the side of the building and it's literally raining cow poop. It was all over the side of the building. It had blown clear across the courtyard and onto the neighbors door and window. It was all over the roof. What caused the explosion, of course was that there was a reaction taking place inside that bottle. The byproduct of that reaction was gas. Under normal circumstances, that gas could have easily escaped into the atmosphere. But there was just no place for it to go. And so the pressure built and built until the bottle could not hold it any longer and it burst. Our text today needs a graphic analogy because today we are going to witness a pretty toxic, pretty nasty explosive spiritual reaction on the part of the Pharisees and religious leaders to the person of Jesus Christ. Now spiritual reactions happen the same way chemical reactions do. As we've worked through the book of John, we've seen this sort of mounting pressure. These strong emotional REACTIONS to the incarnate WORD rise to the surface, but there's no where for it to go. Jesus himself is the container. Jesus won't go away and he FORCES those who are in his presence to deal with him. His very existence was problematic. Here's an example. If you told me that you had the superpower melting steel in your hand, I'd say that's impossible. But if you stood there with a piece of angle iron in your hand and it started glowing red and went limp, I'd have to deal with that. Something about my understanding of reality is incorrect. And that creates a lot of tension. We don't like that. No matter how impossible I thought it was, my eyes aren't lying. Somehow it's got to be explained. My disbelief is challenged by the evidence I am witnessing. And that's exactly what was going on with Jesus. Jesus HIMSELF had to be explained. Imagine being a skeptic in Jesus' day. There are two things that you constantly run up against that you just can't escape: His Words and his Actions. Let's start with his WORDS: Jesus says the most audacious things: We are all children of God. But I am the one and only begotten Son of God His favorite title for himself was Son of Man which is a title reserved for God/Messiah in Daniel 7 I reveal God because I have come down from heaven To the woman at the well he says, “I am living water.” When the Christ comes he will show us all things. “I who speak to you am he.” I am the bread of life I am the the light of the world I am the Word made flesh The words are clear and for that reason troubling. You can't escape their meaning. You can't escape his WORDS. But they are doubly troubling because of his ACTIONS. You could write him off as a lunatic if it wasn't for his actions. Remember, John doesn't call the supernatural works of Jesus miracles. He calls them signs. That's a theological decision on John's part. They are pointing to who he is, who he claims to be. His ACTIONS (the signs) authenticate his WORDS (the claims). For example, you want to say he's a fake, he's a false Messiah, but then time and time again he does these miracles that nobody could possibly counterfeit. Not a single person could say, “Oh that was just a trick.” You want to say that his miracles are products of demons, but how could demons do miracles reserved for Messiah? Are we really going to say that demons are healing people? You want to say that he's a sinner, but you never see him sin. You want to write him off and ignore him, but then everyone is following him. The SIGNS Jesus is performing are irrefutably pointing in one direction. He's Messiah. How else do you explain what Jesus says and does? This was exactly the logic of the man who was healed of his blindness in John 9. Jesus heals the blind man and the Pharisees, say, “We do not know where this man is from.” They can't escape the logic. The hearts of the religious leaders, like that slurry of cow manure, were rotten, smelly and entirely displeasing to the Lord. Jesus as the incarnate Word is both the heat and the container. He speaks and acts and they REACT. And because they refuse to acknowledge the obvious implications, there's no where to go. If you acknowledge the obvious implications, it all resolves. The spiritual and emotional reaction resolves in worship. That's what happened to the man born blind. He falls on his face and he worships. All that evidence points in one direction and it all resolves in worship and there's satisfaction. But if you refuse to acknowledge, the pressure continues building. They try to explain him away and none of the explanations work and the tension just builds and builds. The pressure becomes unbearable. Now eventually, you want to know what your only remaining option is? When you can't explain the evidence, what do you do? You try to destroy the evidence. The human heart so desperately craves harmony and resolution, it would rather knowingly lie to itself, it would rather destroy the truth than live beneath the truth. Since we can't explain who Jesus is, the heart explodes with this violent intent to destroy him. John chapter 10 is that reaction. The Text At first blush you wouldn't think it. If you read the first part of John chapter 10 as a standalone, it almost reads as a hallmark card. On the surface, what could be more beautiful than Jesus as the good shepherd. It's pleasant. There's a silent deep creek with crystal clear water. You picture in your mind fluffly cartoon sheep. A freshly trimmed pasture. A shepherd with a hooked staff. And on that card is written, “No bad days.” The story as Jesus tells it is a pretty simple story; it's not very dramatic. But when Jesus tells this simple story, I can guarantee you that the pressure inside those listening hearts would have been so thick you could cut it with a knife. Here's why: even an idiot can plug the characters into Jesus' metaphor. There are three characters in Jesus' story. First there's the sheep. That's obvious. The Jewish people are the sheep. Second, there's the shepherd. Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd.” Clear enough. Which leaves only one role left for the Pharisees and religious leaders to play. What's the third character? The wolves and robbers. They are the wolves and robbers. To be so directly accused, their eyes are tearing up in bitterness and resentment and their hearts are boiling over with exasperation. What we are going to see in the passage today is the toxic hearts of the religious leader explode. Let's pick it up where we left off last week. So we are in John chapter 10. Let's pick it up in verse 17. We'll catch the climax of Jesus' words from Jesus' teaching on the good shepherd. Jesus just finished saying that the reason he's qualified to be a good shepherd is that he owns the sheep. The sheep know him. The sheep follow him. And he finishes with the ultimate evidence of his love. So that's the last sentence in his good shepherd sermon. Again, it's pretty innocent. It's Hallmarkish. Here was the reaction among the people listening. Why are they divided? What is causing the division among them? His WORDS and his ACTIONS. His WORDS and his ACTIONS are causing a reaction and the mere presence of Jesus Christ is forcing them to deal with their own heart reaction. If you worship, it all resolves. But if you refuse, the pressure builds. Now look what happens next. We have two key background details: Both help in setting the stage. Let's start with the Feast of Dedication. This was not a feast that comes out of the Bible. It actually is established during the period between the OT and NT. Which, by the way, we have a Faith Academy class starting up which covers this exact topic. If you ever wondered what happened during the 400 years between the closing of the OT and the opening of the NT, then come to this class. It's absolutely fascinating. The short answer is: a lot. Now let me let you in on something you should know about: we have two PhD level professors teaching our Faith Academy classes this fall - both current professors. I don't want to overstate, “How could you NOT sign up for one of these classes?” We are very privileged. All our teachers this fall are top-notch. So this Feast of Dedication is one of those things that was established during this inner-testamental period. In 167 BC the Syrian Antiochus Epiphanes overran Jerusalem and polluted the temple. He set up a pagan altar to displace the altar of Israel's God and in the temple sacrificed a pig out of spite. Now that's one way to get a Jew riled up. According to the Bible, this kind of action was a capital offense so many of the Jews revolted and tried their hand at guerilla warfare. Judas Maccabaeus (whose name means the hammer) organized and grew rebel band of fighters into a force strong enough to recapture the temple and he reconsecrated it to God on the 25th of Kislev (which is December - winter as the text says). There was an eight-day celebration and so they established an eight-day feast known as the Feast of Dedication or as we more commonly know it as - Hanukkah. Now here's a key point. The Feast of Dedication is a festival that celebrates REVOLUTION. Literally, REVOLT. Which brings us to the second piece of background information we are given: Jesus is teaching in Solomon's Portico. Where's that? Solomon's portico was an open aired gathering for teaching and assembling. But here's what I wanted to point out: look over to the right. This little structure up here is called Antonia's Fortress. The Jews were allowed to worship “freely” so long as you “freely” worship under the watchful eye of Rome. This is the perch from which they were watched! This is where the Roman Garrison in charge of keeping order would have been housed. So let's put this all togther. It's the Feast of Dedication which literally CELEBRATES a revolution. Which means at least two things: the garrison sitting in this fortress is on high alert, but like every garrison tasked with baby sitting, they are bored and are itching for some action. The Jews come and ask Jesus, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? Are you the Christ or not? They are inciting him. They are daring him. What does the word Christ mean to a Jew during this period of history? It means SAVIOR. And it's almost universally understood to be political salvation. Think about it. Moses delivered Israel politically from EGYPT. King David was a politician who got things done through bloody warfare. Samson, if you read the narrative, was almost a Marvel character. Judas Maccabees was Israel's most recent favorite, but he got put down. So all eyes are you: “Tell us Jesus! We can't handle it any longer. Are you the Christ or not? Stop speaking in riddles.” Back to the text: the Greek behind this question is a little uncertain. It could be rendered, as in the NIV, “How long will you keep us in suspense?” Or, more negatively, “How long are you going to annoy us?” Depending on how you read it, both work in their own way. The CONTEXTUAL point is obvious. What they want at this moment is to obtain from him an unambiguous statement that would give them grounds for lynching. So all these religious leaders need to do is get a clear statement from Jesus that he is a MESSIAH like unto Judas Maccabeus (Jesus - the sledgehammer) and it's a simple matter of walking across the courtyard and knocking on the door of Antoniah's fortress and saying, “We have an insurrectionist in our midst.” This is a loaded and VERY dangerous question. Now look at how Jesus answers them. Very shrewdly, he won't answer their political question directly. But he addresses the spiritual question behind the political question. And the spiritual question Jesus addresses is just as much relevant for us as it was for them: In this small paragraph we get 3 counterintuitive realities all of which are helpful in understanding our own spiritual reaction to Jesus Christ. Jesus is addressing the spiritual chemistry of his hearers, literally the spiritual DNA of his followers. “You don't need different facts. You need a different heart. Who I am could not be more clear. By my WORDS and by my ACTIONS nothing could be more clear. Can a demon possessed man heal the eyes of a blind man? Can a lunatic heal a paralytic? Can a sinner perform miracles? What does all this mean? I AM the great I AM. That's what I've said all along. WHO I AM has been ESTABLISHED. It's fact.” The problem is your REACTION to the facts. It is not that I haven't told you who I am; you just don't like what you've heard. He doesn't say, “You don't listen to my voice because you don't understand and need a more clear articulation.” He says, “You DO NOT believe because you are not among my sheep. You are of the wrong flock. Your spiritual DNA is violently opposed to me.” And because of your spiritual chemical composition, you REACT. When you say, “Tell us plainly so we can believe,” what you really mean is, “Tell us plainly so we can kill you.” That's how you are reacting to me. And the offer of Jesus to the religious leaders, and by extension to us as well, is can I give you a new heart? Can I spiritually regenerate you so that you can react in a different way? In Jeremiah's words, can I change you from a heart whose chemical composition is stone into a heart whose chemical composition is flesh? Your big problem, says Jesus to the religious leaders, is that you don't see your need for that new heart. Remember Jesus' words at the end of John 9 “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,' your guilt remains,” (Jn. 9:41 ESV). Now there's this predestinarian note that is sounded here. My Father has given them to me. Once again, we are exposed to this idea of God's sovereign election. God chooses. And if you are among the elect, you hear his voice and respond. Otherwise you violently react. For many, this is a stumbling block to faith. That just doesn't seem fair. But don't ever be tempted to reduce God to simple equations like that. Yes of course it feels confusing. But we are forced to grapple with the clear statements in the text. Remember we already ran across this back in John chapter 6. Paul has dozens and dozens of statements on this in the epistles. There's no arguing over the clarity of what the Bible teaches in this area. And the Bible acknowledges both sovereignty and human responsibility. Let me illustrate. Which of these two statements sounds more biblical? First, “Come to Jesus in faith and believe and he will give you a new heart.” Does that sound biblical? Of course it does. That's all over the Bible. Second, “You can't believe in Jesus until he gives you faith by regenerating your heart.” Does that sound biblical? Of course it does. It's all over the Bible. Those are literally opposites. Which is it? The Bible's answer is yes. The Bible's answer is that those statements are both true however irreconcilable they are in our finite minds. It is almost as if those truths are in fact two sides of a single event. The point is not to understand it. The point is to obey it. In the same way that none of us fully understand how gravity works, you submit to it, because if you don't it will kill you. Submit to Christ. Listen to Christ. Go under the knife and let him give you that new heart. And if you do let Christ give you a new heart, your new disposition will be to follow him. Your new reaction to Christ will be to trust, to obey, to do what he says. The tension you feel, and perhaps even hostility that you experience will resolve in to worship. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. Not only will you have a new disposition. You have a new destiny. Life. In the classical world, so we are talking Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, some of the greatest philosophical minds ever, they simplified the greatest philosophical question of all to this, “What is the good life?” How to I live with purpose, meaning, that will ultimately satisfy? And every philosophical and religious system that has ever existed presents an answer framed in terms of effort. The good life, the life worth living, is a matter of effort. But Jesus inverts that entirely. Life is a matter of GRACE. Life is not found; it's given. Jesus said back in verse 10, “I came that they might have life and have it abundantly. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish…” We talked about last week the fact that Jesus can solve the life problem. Let me remind you of something we talked in John chapter 6. Do you remember this? In English we only have one word for LIFE but in Greek there are multiple words. There's two main ones. The word BIOS. We get our term biology from it. The greek word BIOS speaks of the MECHANICS of physical life - a heart that beats, lungs that breath, etc. That bird is living. Jesus is Lord of the living and the dead. BIOS speaks of physical, mechanical life. But then there's a second word, ZOA that speaks of a quality of living. For example, when you kick your feet up at the beach and there's a breeze and the sun is just right and you have a lemonade in your hand and you are all alone you might say, “Man, this is living.” That's not to say you were dead 5 minutes ago. It's speaking of a quality of life. It's speaking of your soul being satisfied, filled, and brimming with a heart-level contentment. My favorite yogurt is called ZOI. When I eat that, man, I'm living. My soul is taken to another dimension. That's life! So we will represent this word with a yogurt container. So when Jesus says, I give them eternal life, what kind of life is he speaking of? Answer: ZOA. Quality of life. He's here to give you the good life. No human being has eternal BIOS. You will die. You didn't need me to tell you that. Being a Christian does not mean that you escape the grave. That's about as obvious as it gets. Everyone dies. But, being a Christian does mean you will be resurrected. Remember back in John chapter 6. Let me point out something Jesus says back up in verse 17. Jesus says, “I lay down my life, in order that I might take it up again.” That phrase, ‘in order that' should be read as a purpose close. In other words, I lay down my life IN ORDER to take it up again. Jesus' sacrificial death was for a purpose. The death was not an end in itself, and his resurrection, somehow, an afterthought. His death was with the resurrection in view. The resurrection was the goal, the prize, the ultimate end. He died IN ORDER TO rise, just as we fly IN ORDER to reach our destination. And he rose, in order that we might have life as well. Notice also that the consequence of his knowing his sheep, and of his gift to them of eternal life, is that they shall never perish. How could we perish if we have eternal life?! So belief is a matter of genetics not facts; life is a matter of grace not effort; security is a matter of power not strategy. We all want security. Why? Because we all recognize that life is unstable. Once I find green pastures (ZOA), who's to say that some calamity, disaster, catastrophe, or unforeseen circumstances will fall upon me and cast me once again into desert drought. Security is hedging against loss. Security is the assurance of eternal green pastures. Our inclination is to think that security is a function of strategy. In order to obtain financial security in this life, we have to strategize. You've got to make the right decisions at the right time, take the right risks and with a little bit of luck it might just pay off. But again, Jesus inverts this. It's not strategy you need. It's power. You need to have power over the forces that threaten to take away life. Here's what Jesus says. I am that power. No one can snatch them out of my hand. The wolf can't. The thief can't. The robber can't. Nobody. Why, because I have POWER over all those things. I can't fail in the assignment given to me by my father because the father has given me the power to do it. The father has given me the power to preserve. The ultimate security of Jesus' sheep rests not in the strategy of sheep but in the power of the good shepherd. If you really want to simplify it, ask yourself this question, “Who can steal from God? Who has strength or cunning or sufficient skill to overpower or outwit the sovereign Father?” You can't wrestle God and win. You want to try and take them out of my hand? Good luck! If you're going to be successful, then you are going to have to be greater than God. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. Jesus plainly tell us who we are. You want plain speech. Here's plain speech for you. God the Father and I the same person and therefore on the same mission. Now we will look at this section next week at this phrase and what follows in more detail. It's fascinating. There's actually been a lot of debate on how to read this phrase of Jesus (and again, we'll peek into some of this detail next week), but one thing is clear. It's clear how the leaders heard it. It's clear what their reaction was. And today we are focusing on reaction. And that's where we are going to stop today. But the sermon doesn't stop there because now focus needs to come on us. Communion Now today we've observed the reaction of the Jewish leaders. There was this violent reaction to who Jesus was and they wanted to kill him. The blind man in John 9 saw who he was and wanted to worship him. Can you have more opposite reactions? Here's the question. How are you going to react? Are you going to WORSHIP him or are you going to WAR with him? Are you going to harden your heart against him like stone or are you going to soften your heart toward him like flesh. How do you react to Jesus Christ? Today is communion Sunday. And one of the things the Bible says is to examine yourself so as not to take communion in an unworthy manner. What does that mean? To take communion in a WORTHY manner means reacting properly to Jesus. How do we react properly to the good shepherd of John 10? We actually have an exhortation from the Psalms today instructing us exactly how to react to our good shepherd. He goes on to describe the Israelites pictured in this Psalm as a flock of sheep. God shepherded them out of Egypt with his might outstretched hand. He led them toward the promise land with the intent to give them life. But many did not want to follow him, and consequently, they did not enter into His rest. The sheep that follow Jesus Christ will rest. They will have life abundantly. God himself will raise us up on the last day. Those who harden their hearts, who react with this desire to rid Jesus from their life, they will never enter into his rest. What we celebrate in communion today is the reason you can trust God as your good shepherd. It gives you a reason to react in worship. Consider the metaphor of Scripture once again. What does a good shepherd do? He lays down his life for the sheep. Why would a shepherd throw himself into the mouth of a wolf to save sheep? That's absurd. And yet, it's the point. Consider further, if you are sheep who belongs to a Jewish shepherd, how will you almost certainly die? On an altar. A sheep is a sacrificial animal. So listen to those words again. Jesus says, “I lay down my life for the sheep.” Is this not the most absurd thing you've ever heard? The shepherd's blood will be applied toward the life of the sheep. The shepherd crawls up on the altar instead of the sheep. He becomes the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. And if that's not absurd enough, consider he's not dying for the innocent lambs. The sheep are doing the killing. They've got the knives. But of course this is all a metaphor that is pointing to a reality. The gospel message is not a message to tell you how to save yourself. Instead of saying, “This is what you must do,” Jesus says, “This is what I have done. I've died, I've risen, I've conquered death and the grave, and I will raise you up on the Last Day.” Who would have thought that a lamb could rescue the souls of men? The gospel message, the good news, is a message that says the good shepherd has shed his own blood for you. The Son of God has thrown Himself into the mouth of the grave to save you. The initiating kindness of God leads us to repentance.
I really got the sense that Eric cares so much about the people that he helps work through their grief journey. His daughter passed away several years ago and, since then, he has changed his life completely to be of service to all people who have lost their loved ones and are going through the pain of grief and tragic loss. He tries to help people see that living in survival mode is necessary, but must be temporary. We talked about Greece and how that culture handles grief so differently, survivor's guilt, signs from our loved ones, dreams, and so much more. He reminds us that part of our healing process is remembering that our loved ones aren't the only reasons that we're here living our lives. If you want to experience hope for better days ahead, I hope you listen in. I'd love to know what you think. What we just read is the background and context for the Easter message today. These are two of the most well-known miracles of Jesus. Even if you are only marginally familiar with the life of Christ you probably know that he multiplied bread to feed 5000 people (it’s the only miracle recorded in all four gospels) and you probably have heard this story about him walking on water. These two stories are recorded for us to focus our attention on a problem that only Jesus can solve. It’s what the stories share in common. In both stories the people are needy. The 5000 need food. The disciples need to be rescued. And Jesus BOTH provides food and safety. In so doing he’s pointing to himself as the great provider and the only savior. But here’s what we are going to discover in the text this morning. It is often the case that our greatest PERCEIVED need is different than our greatest ACTUAL need. And when we misidentify our greatest need in life, it shields us from ever experiencing how God intends for us to live.Let’s face it, we worry about paying the bills, or getting our kids out of diapers or getting our kids into college or getting done with school or getting that job; but let’s face it. These are minor problems. Our greatest problem in life is death. Nobody has to convince you that this is a problem. We are all going to die and when we are forced to reckon with it, we are sobered. There aren’t a lot of solutions. Just four days ago Lisa’s grandpa had a heart attack and died. For our family, this problem is fresh and real. It’s a tremendous loss. No matter how healthy you are, no matter how much exercise, no matter how much organic food you consume, this death day is coming for us all. When I was in my teens and 20’s I felt invincible. Now I’m 43 and I’m getting to the age where I can feel wear and tear. I see the changes that can’t be rolled back. And when I notice some new feature of age, it’s like a dark shadow that quickly swoops overhead; and it scares me - what was that? But I know what it is.Life is a game of who can we keep the water in their cupped hands the longest. If we squeeze really tightly, we might be able to hold out a little longer, but life is slipping between our fingers. It’s leaking out. Eventually, all the life drains away and it’s all over. That’s not morbid. That’s reality. So you want to talk about a deep need? That’s a need. I need to not die. I need life. I need to escape this monster. Now Jesus, in this text today is actually going to challenge that. Death is NOT your greatest problem.BackgroundNow before we can hear Jesus’ comments here, we need to grab a few contextual remarks from the stories we just read. We are told two interesting details about the feeding of the 5000.First, we are told that there are large crowds. Why? The text says, because Jesus is healing people like crazy. Giant crowds are assembling. " We are told there were about 5000 men plus women and children (so conservatively we are probably talking 8-10 thousand). We are told that 200 denaria (about 8 months wages) so maybe like 30,000-40,000 wasn’t enough to give everyone even a bite. To assemble a crowd this large in this agrarian region would be unprecedented. Imagine driving through Melba, Marsing or Nissa and seeing 8000 people assembled. You’d pull over. What’s going on here? It’s just something you never see.Second, we are told that the Passover of the Jews was at hand. This is not a chronological note as it is a political note. The Passover was their 4th of July. It’s their independence day. It remembers the period of time where the God of Israel used his servant Moses to work great miracles to overthrow their Egyptian oppressors. And with a mighty outstretched hand God delivered his people from the foreign superpower.Okay, so let’s think here. The Jews are clamped tightly beneath Rome’s yoke. They want liberation and here’s a miracle worker, like unto Moses. He’s claiming to be a messenger from God. He’s just like Moses in that he can feed us with manna from heaven. Let’s think further, if you are going to lead a revolution against the a global superpower it would be nice to have a guy on your side who could heal your sick and raise people from the dead. This is important context to what’s going on here. There’s an atmosphere of frenzy and excitement. If you really believed that the end of the age was being ushered in by Messiah, I mean that house painting project can wait. And the text says that the crowds were so enthralled that they were intending to take Jesus and install him as KING by force. Now, I don’t know a lot of people who would decline an offer to be KING. Why did Jesus decline this? Didn’t Jesus come to be king?Yes, but he came to establish a kingdom entirely different than they expected. Jesus’ plan was not to destroy the enemy by siege warfare; rather, his plan was to die and rise from the dead. ‘he went to Jerusalem not to throw a spear and bring judgment, rather, he went and received the spear thrust and bore judgment.’And so everything that comes next, is Jesus upsetting their view of God’s kingdom? Let’s observe. Let’s read what happens next.So this is the day after the miracle of the loafs. Jesus had sent his disciples away and the crowds watched the disciples leave and they noted that Jesus was not in the boat. Jesus then spends some time alone with the father. Now, the morning comes and the crowds return to the place they last saw him.So they are seeking Jesus. But he’s not there. So they go to Capernaum which was his hometown in Galilee. And they are surprised to see him there. This would be like saying goodbye to family in Boise, you board the plane only to be greeted by your family at Los Angeles as you exit the jetway. And the natural question comes out, “How did you get here so fast?” Jesus doesn’t even answer the question. He goes right at the heart. You came here seeking me. Can I ask you a question? Why?And maybe that is a good question for us this morning. Why did you come here? This is Easter. If ever you are going to make it to church, you come on Easter. You came here seeking Jesus for some reason. Why? Try to answer that question in your mind. Why are you seeking him? Is it:Because your spouse wanted you to.Because you want him to help you fix your marriage?Because you want to silence a guilty conscience.Because this addiction is wrecking your life and you need help.Because you are depressed and lonely.Because you think it’s good for your kids.Because you need a miracle of healing in your life?Think about it this way: What if you walked in and instead of me, it’s actually Jesus himself. **And everyone else fades away and he looks right at you and asks the question, “I see you’ve come to church this morning.** What can I do for you?” And it’s a genuine question. How would you respond?Answer that question right now. Why are you seeking Jesus? The reason this question is important is because we all incorrectly assess our need. We come to Jesus thinking this is our great need. And Jesus redirects. That’s exactly what we see him doing next. Jesus sees these crowds coming. Why do you care where I am? Why are you seeking me out? Actually, don’t answer: let me tell you why.Jesus calls them out. Your here for the wrong reason. The signs and miracles have all pointed to the fact I am God come in the flesh. You are not coming to submit to the implication of the miraculous signs. You’re coming to me to receive the benefit of the signs.Or to put it crassly. You don’t want me. You just want what you can get from me. In Jesus day, the Roman emperor would generate public approval not by excellence in public service but by satisfying the most immediate and base needs of the people. Toss them some bread. It was a superficial way to appease.Jesus asks, “Are you coming to me any differently than that?” I filled your belly and you loved it. You are just treating me like a genie-in-a-bottle. You hope that you can get your three magic wishes answered and then when the magic is over, the bottle gets discarded on the side of the road. I got what I wanted and now I’m moving on. You are using me.Now be honest. Is that how you came to church this morning? I really like Jesus the way I would like a genie-in-a-bottle. I like what Jesus can do for me. I need to be healed. That’s my problem! And man, I would be so thankful if I could be healed. Oh, I would just sing for joy.I feel so depressed and anxious and I would love those feelings to go away. That’s why I need Jesus. I just want my marriage to get better.Rub the bottle. Rub, rub, rub. Out comes the genie. And you rejoice and it feels like worship, but it’s all about you. You are like the 10 lepers who were healed and ran away rejoicing drop the genie on the side of the road and only one comes back and truly worships.Do you REALLY think the kingdom of heaven is about crass materialism and welfare and prosperity? You are totally misunderstanding your greatest need.Jesus is says, “You are coming to me the wrong way.” I’m not a genie in the bottle. So he corrects their thinking. You are coming to me to fill your belly. You need to come to me to fill your soul.Look what he says nextDon’t seek food that perishes. Seek the food that endures. Now anyone who hears this sentence is going to naturally ask at least two questions: What is the food that does not perish? How do I get it?That’s the logical order in my mind. But Jesus actually answers this question in reverse. Before we even know what the food is, we are told how to get it.Now the way we are told how to get this eternal food is through Jesus correcting a misunderstanding in the crowd. Here’s what the crowd incorrectly understood Jesus to be saying, “You WORKED to get here so that you could get a free lunch. You worked to find me so you could get food that perishes. Fine. But, NOW you need to WORK for the eternal lunch. You need to work for food that does not perish.” In other words they incorrectly understand Jesus to be saying, the eternal food is not free and you better get working."And we know this is what they are thinking based on the questions they ask.The crowd is thinking:I want the eternal food.I must work to get the eternal food. What is the work?Tell us what works God requires, and we will perform them. Jesus corrects them:The work is belief in Jesus? It’s faith. What kind of work is that? You must believe. Believe what? Well, you need to believe everything he’s claiming. And so, if you want this eternal food (whatever it is), you’ve got to believe the claims. Now here’s where the genius of Jesus becomes visible. In asking them to believe, it exposes something. If all Jesus ever claimed to be was a genie-in-a-bottle, then you’d say, “No problem. I believe that.” And boom. There would be no objection. You’ve already seen him do dozens of miracles. Of course he’s got supernatural powers. If that’s all I need to do to get this food that does not perish, well, I believe. No problem. There is only benefit to me if I believe this. So of course I believe. And that is how many of us come to Jesus. Sure, I will believe that Jesus is great teacher and that he can heal and that he’s got some great moral standards for us to follow. I believe he’s a great person. But that’s not what he’s claiming. Remember from two weeks ago the claims Jesus made? He claimed that the father had given him power to raise the dead. He claimed that God had given him power to judge all mankind. He claimed to be God come in the flesh. Now if he’s God and judge that implies guilt, power, surrender, submission, lordship, kingship, authority. Mmmmm. Suddenly, I’m not so sure I’m ready to believe that.Even though they already have all the evidence they need, they throw up this smoke screen. You want us to believe? Not so fast. We need more evidence. Now, this response by the crowd is an absolute red herring. You want to know where that phrase, ‘red herring’ comes from? It comes from a time before refrigerators. Herrings are naturally silver and they were smoked so they could be preserved and became red in the process. They also happened to be smelly and so hound dogs were sometimes trained using them.Knowing this, sometimes people being hunted down would use the red herrings to throw the dogs off the scent. So in our passage, here we have Jesus, the hound of heaven hunting these folks down. And he’s right on their tail. He’s hunting down their motive. You are coming to me as a genie-in-a-bottle. You just want what you can get from me. You are using me. You must believe that I am Lord. That I am God.The hound is nipping at their heels. And out comes the red herring. It’s not that we don’t believe. We just need more evidence. Isn’t it reasonable that a man needs evidence before he believes? Do a miracle. Show us you are prophet like unto Moses by feeding us with manna from heaven; then we will believe. Evidence was not the issue.Perhaps you come this morning thinking to yourself that your objection to Jesus is lack of evidence. Is it? Do you need more evidence? Perhaps. But be careful. That can be a red herring. The real problem for many is not lack of evidence. The real problem for many is that we don’t like the implications of sovereign God interfering with our freedom, telling us what we can and cannot do and so we front lack of evidence as the reason we cannot believe. Now the hound of heaven is chasing these guys down. There’s not a chance in the world he’s going to acquiesce to their demands. Why? Because in so doing he would have domesticated the work he had come to do. He didn’t come primarily to fill the belly. He came to save the soul. Worse still, he would have become captive to the whims of this fickle, demanding crowd. He wasn’t a poodle dancing to the tune of circus organ. Now, what he’s going to do is move their focus away from BREAD to the spiritual issue that they are avoiding. He says, what you are needing is not evidence that I am a prophet like unto Moses. You’ve already seen me multiply bread. Then he says, “Listen the bread of heaven I’m talking about isn’t a loaf you put in your mouth.” It’s a person. The true bread is the one who comes down from heaven and gives LIFE to the world. And so the crowd, barely listening to a word he is saying, says, “Okay fine, that sounds great. Give us that bread.” This request operates at a mundane level. It’s like the woman at the well, “Sir, give me this water.”The crowd doesn’t get credit for much here, but one thing they are picking up on is the fact that Jesus was offering something greater than mere bread. The grain from the earth is from God but it’s a lot of work to make bread from it and it doesn’t last forever. Even the heavenly manna given by Moses from God spoiled after a day. Jesus is claiming to offer the true bread from heaven, something greater even manna. Now up to this point we’ve only been told how to get the bread. We must believe Jesus’ claims. The Food that EnduresHow Do We Get the Food? What is the Food? But what is the bread? And he answers point blank. The food that does not perish is Jesus. Jesus calls himself the bread of life. Now I can’t help but think that to these people this was highly disappointing. In fact, I know so because of what we will read next week. Oh, it’s just you. I was really hungry and hoping for some eternal in-n-out. Jesus says, “No, I am the fuel for your soul. I am bread that does not perish.” The fact that this disappoints you is the problem. I am the bread of life. Now we started by talking about this big problem that we all face, this giant perceived need. We are all dying. Death is hunting us down and every year we hear the footsteps getting closer. But you want to know who else is hunting us down? The hound of heaven. Jesus says, my mission is to hunt down dying people who need life. And I will loose none of them. All that the father gives will come to me. The mission of Jesus Christ is to compel you to believe. You are in his sights. He’s destroying opposition. He’s becoming attractive - how you do not know? His words are becoming winsome. Look on the son. Look on him. How can you reject the one who is offering you life? EVERYONE who looks on the SON and BELIEVES in him, will have ETERNAL LIFE.Is Jesus really offering us a solution to the death problem? Let me give you a little insight into the original Greek language in which the NT was written. In English we only have one word for LIFE but in Greek there are two words. There’s the word BIOS. If you are computer nerd you recognize that term. On a motherboard there is a little chip called the BIOS chip and it has the most basic components necessary for a computer to have life.We get our term biology from it. The greek word BIOS speaks of the MECHANICS of physical life - a heart that beats, lungs that breath, etc. That bird is living. Jesus is Lord of the living and the dead. BIOS speaks of physical, MECHANICAL, LIFE.So to me when I think of mechanics I think of something like this motherboard. So we’ll represent BIOS with this motherboard. But then there’s a second word, zoa that speaks of a quality of living. For example, when you kick your feet up at the beech and there’s a breeze and the sun is just right and you have a lemonade in your hand and you are all alone you might say, "Man, this is living." That’s not to say you were dead 5 minutes ago. It’s speaking of a quality of life. It’s speaking of your soul being satisfied, filled and brimming with a heart-level contentment. My favorite yogurt is called ZOI. When I eat that man, I’m living. My soul is taken to another dimension. That’ life! So we will represent this word with a yogurt container. Now here’s the deal. I took a quick screen shot of my Bible software here.In John chapter 6, Jesus uses the word life 12 times. In every single example, he uses the same word. Which is it? BIOS OR ZOAI am the bread of life. The food that endures to eternal life.I have come down from heaven to give you life.It is the Spirit who gives lifeWhoever believes has eternal LIFE.Now when the text says, "This is the will of the Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have ETERNAL LIFE. Which life is being referenced? Is Jesus saying that if you look on him you will receive eternal BIOLOGICAL life BIOS or is he saying you will receive eternal SOUL life ZOA.The answer is ZOA. He’s talking about a quality of life. A soul satisfaction. Now some of you right away might be disappointed by that. I thought we were here on Easter to celebrate Jesus fixing the whole DEATH problem. Didn’t you start your message talking about this giant death problem. And now we are merely addressing quality of life. What I was hoping for was ETERNAL BIOS. Eternal physical LIFE. That’s what I came here today to be reminded of.Well here’s the first thing to say. No human being has eternal BIOS. You will die. You didn’t need me to tell you that. Being a Christian does not mean that you escape the grave. That’s about as obvious as it gets. Everyone dies. But, being a Christian does mean you will be resurrected. You will be given a new body that will not die. You see I cut off the end of verse 40. Here’ what the rest of it says.Easter is where we celebrate our Lord’s victory over death. And believe me, this is not a minor piece. BIOLOGICAL DEATH is the great immediate enemy without question. Without Jesus conquering death we are lost. But do you realize that the resurrection unto Biological life is really a secondary problem. Let me illustrate.Imagine floating on a raft in the middle of the pacific ocean and a giant great white shark comes straight at you with his mouth gaping wide open. What’s your greatest problem? Well, it’s the shark, of course. But what if you happen to avert that catastrophe and now you find yourself drifting and floating and your raft never hits land. You have an endless supply of food and water but you are stuck on the ocean forever. You have BIOS but no ZOA. The shark might have been a mercy. Our greatest problem this morning is not eternal BIOS. Eternal BIOS is nothing more than eternal existence. Be careful what you ask for. Do you really want to live forever? Eternal bios without eternal zoa is the definition of hell. Our greatest need is not biological life. Our greatest need is zoa. Our greatest need is to have our hearts satisfied. To have meaning, soul contentment, satisfaction, happiness, joy, peace freedom from anxiety. Where is that found? The world tries to find answers, doesn’t it. The folks in Jesus’ day wanted bread. Man, to never have to work again for bread, now that’s living. That’s life. That’s zoa.Is that why you came this morning? Bread in the OT is a euphemism for wealth. What I really need is more wealth, more security. Jesus you are the all powerful genie. Give me ZOA. Rub rub rub.I need my financial problems solved. That’s zoa. That’s living.I need my marriage problems solved. That’s zoa. That’s living.I need a little more respect, recognition, affirmation. That’s zoa.I need just a few more athletic accomplishments, academic degrees, artistic achievements. That’s zoa.Jesus says, I am ZOA.I am the bread of life. ZOA.I am the way the truth and the ZOA.For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him should have eternal ZOA.Listen, your body is dying right now and your life your BIOS will slip through the cracks in your tightly clenched fingers. In order to get eternal BIOS you need to be resurrected. That’s what the cross accomplished. That is the secondary part of what we celebrate during Easter. But the primary thing, is that Jesus gives us LIFE.You can have eternal ZOA right now. You can have your sins forgiven and have a relationship with Jesus Christ right now. Freedom from guilt. An identity that can’t be taken away. Don’t you want that? Won’t you give up your chase for the world’s zoa. You know deep in your heart that money isn’t zoa. Friends aren’t zoa. Knowledge isn’t zoa. You have bumped up against the limits of all that. Zoa is Jesus Christ. And you can have him right now.All you have to do is believe. Look on the Son. Look on Jesus and believe who he claims to be. He is your Lord. He is your King. He is your Judge. He is your Savior. He’s the hound that has been chasing you your whole life. You can’t escape him. So just receive the gift he wants to give. Everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal ZOA.This note was in Lisa’s grandpa’s Bible and he wrote it just a brief time before he died.It says this: It’s all right to mourn the loss. Be happy that with his belief, beyond a shadow of a doubt, he is with the Lord. And then he references John 11:26. John 11 is when Lazarus is four days dead and in the tomb and his body is decomposing. And Mary says, "If you had been here sooner he wouldn’t have died.Jesus says, Mary, "Do you believe this? Here’s what Easter is all about. You want to know why Easter is not a message about eternal BIOS. Because everyone gets eternal BIOS. What did we read just last week?Only those who believe in Jesus Christ, get eternal ZOA.

Cathy Zoi has seen it all. She’s studied and worked in oil, gas and clean energy since the Reagan Era. Now as CEO of charging company EVgo, she knows the future of energy is coming fast. “Rideshare drivers are now starting to drive EVs, those folks need to charge once a day away from home, and they need to do it fast. When COVID hit, delivery drivers for food deliveries needed to charge on our network. Fleet companies like Amazon. So every month that goes by, there is a new opportunity, says Zoi.”Cathy has a breadth of energy and cleantech experience working in leadership roles at non-profits, startups, venture capital, academia, and government agencies.Cathy was on the team that developed the original Energy Star rating when she worked at the Environmental Protection Agency. She was chief of staff in the White House Office on Environmental Policy in the Clinton-Gore Administration. And she is co-founder and executive chairman of Odyssey Energy, a software start-up bringing distributed clean power to developing countries. Consciousness is pretty much everything. Everything that you've apprehended in your life is due to being able to have conscious experience. But why is it that perhaps the most fundamental ability in our life is so hard to pin down? Why are we Conscious? Where is Consciousness? How did we become Conscious? What do we do with it now? Is it evolving? All of these questions are brought up with my guest Zoi in the latest (and most chaotic) episode of What Magic is This?
I broke down exactly where to start tackling this scenario, what you need to figure out first, and the key factors to getting your new business off the ground. In this episode, you’ll also learn why your mindset matters when you approach questions like this, the specific costs you need to take into account to make your dream a reality and how your ZOG and your ZOI come into play. I’m also covering why starting a side hustle may be exactly what you need to fund your new business. Listen to the episode now! Listen to Anna and I chat through the importance of distinguishing between a goal and an outcome (this is so, so key), the biggest thing you’re not taking into account when measuring your success, why my team looks at our results in terms of “good, better and best,” and what every project launch needs to review during their debrief. I also talk through the importance of operating within your own, personal zone of genius and why your ZOG, ZOC and ZOI are so important.

Welcome or welcome back to the uncomfortable is OK podcast. I'm your host Chris Desmond and this is the show where I chat with fascinating people who have faced down the Uncomfortable. We hear their stories and jump into the strategies they've used for getting uncomfortable. Over the last couple of week's I've appeared as a guest on a couple of other podcasts, The Willosophy podcast, and It's no secret with Dr T. It's been an interesting and uncomfortable experience being on the other side of the microphone and having questions asked of me. Thankfully after having over 70 conversations with people on this podcast I've probably got enough to say to fill up half an hour or so. Being a guest on someone else's podcast to talk about getting uncomfortable has given me a greater appreciation of story telling. Being able to impart your viewpoint and experience through story is such an important skill, but also a difficult one to master. It makes me appreciate today's guest, Eric Hodgdon even more. A few years ago Eric went through the trauma of his daughter Zoi's suicide. Thankfully I have never been placed in a situation like that, and I struggle to comprehend what it must have been like. It's a tough topic that not many people seem willing to speak about so I'm grateful that Eric is opening up about his experiences. After going through his grieving process Eric realised that he needed to find his way back to better days, and to help those around him to do the same. That's what this conversation is mainly focussed on, Eric's grieving, his pathway back to better days and living a life where he is thriving again, and how he is helping others to do the same. Suicide is a tough topic, especially here in New Zealand and if you're thinking about it then even though it may not seem like it at the moment, that things are going to get better. Reach out and talk to someone you trust. I've put a list of numbers you can call in New Zealand in the notes for the show, a quick Google search brings up a raft of contacts in other countries too, please get in touch with Eric or with myself if you need to talk. For those of you who have been impacted by suicide, it will also get better, listen to Eric's story as he tells us how his life did. In this conversation Eric and I kick it off by talking about some concepts about getting uncomfortable, I was checking the sound levels and then the conversation just seemed to go, so it may not seem to flow like some of the other episodes. Thank you for listening to this week’s Biz Vizion with Alaska Tracy. This week, Zoi Maroudas-Tziolas shares some heartfelt testimonies about how and why she started Bambinos Baby Food. Zoi says, "We are not just a baby food company; we are an extension of your love and commitment to your family." Bambino's celebrates their Grand Opening on September 1st by opening their new manufacturing location and retail store front at 2819 Spenard in Anchorage, Alaska. Bambinos Baby Food is a national natural, organic baby food company that ships 24 meals directly to parents’ doorsteps. So yes, you can order if you live outside of Alaska! The flavors are delicious. I tried the salmon - it was like a creamy bisque, and I loved it. I loved it so much that I fed it to my husband for dinner! Guess what? He liked it too! The baby food is nutritionally focused to address allergies and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime. Meals are packaged in fun star shapes to be enjoyed frozen like popsicles to be used as a natural teether, or they can be warmed up into a beautiful smooth puree. Every bite offers a great balance of protein, grain and vegetables creating a healthy, tasty and allergist-approved meal. Zoi told me that people with food allergies, those who are bodybuilders, and people that are concerned about what they put in their bodies buy Bambinos! I will be buying her products for my healthy meals, and I also fed to our fur baby that is surviving bone cancer. We have her on a strict healthy diet, and she loved the stars! After our interview, Zoi shared what it was like to move to the US as a 4-year-old from Greece. She has been working in some way, shape or form to help her family’s business from a very young age. My take away: Zoi has learned to roll up her sleeves and work hard to achieve a life beyond her wildest dreams for herself and her family. What a gift she is to our community in Anchorage and businesses all over. I hope you will take the time to share, comment and remember to subscribe to Biz Vizion with Alaska Tracy. As always, if you know someone whose story is filled with inspiration, please drop me a message as they may be a perfect fit for the podcast.

Jennifer stood by her woman Zoi on episode 5 of Top Chef Chicago, clearly upset that Zoi was packing her knives as a result of underseasoned mushrooms—while Richard, and his scaly, mushy salmon, was saved. But our big question: Why don't Zoi and Jen really kiss?
