Welcome to Musicians On The Record, the show where we bring you the musician's story, I'm David Ward. We asked what content you wanted to see more of, and you overwhelmingly told us you wanted more stories about musicians overcoming challenges. So I am excited to let you know about a new segment, called The Rock Therapy Show. It’s not talk therapy, it's Rock Therapy; Conversations with Musicians about Music, Mental Health, Motivation and Mindset. Why Rock Therapy? Well, in addition to being the show host, I’m also a licensed psychotherapist, (and an unlicensed drummer). I really want to reduce the stigma of talking about these topics. It’s 2019, can we talk about music and mental health? I always find it inspiring and courageous when some of my favorite musicians talk about overcoming their struggles, like Eric Clapton and Aerosmith sharing about their recovery, Bruce Springsteen battling depression, and one of my favorites, Paul Stanley of KISS, talking about his struggles and going to therapy. Also, how many of our music heroes have we lost to mental health and addiction issues. For me, it’s a huge list, Hendrix, Bonham, Moon, Janis, Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia, Elvis, and sadly many more. Plus, Howard Stern is talking about the benefits of his therapy now. If Howard can talk about it, it’s all good! So if you like music and you think it’s cool when some of your music heroes are human just like us, who have everyday struggles, let’s talk about music and mental health in Rock Therapy. We’d love to have you with us! Subscribe and follow us and tell us who you would like to see on The Rock Therapy Show. Thanks for listening, I’m David Ward, now go rock your day! Donnie Vie is the former lead singer of the hard rock band Enuff Z’nuff. He’s back and his new solo album is ‘Beautiful Things,’ and the first Pledge Music Campaign track is ‘I’ll Surrender.’ In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine called Enuff Z’nuff "The Hot Band of the Year.” The group appeared on MTV, Howard Stern and David Letterman. In addition to their hit singles "Fly High Michelle" and "New Thing,” their single "Mother's Eyes" was a statement on healing racism, which showed they were much more than a hard rock party band, although they were that as well. Listen as Donnie Vie shares his raw, honest, courageous story of hitting it big with international success, struggling with the excesses of rock ’n’ roll fame, and overcoming tragedies and obstacles to finally find his own voice and music. Cleveland-born David Wilcox was inspired to play guitar after hearing a fellow college student playing in a stairwell. His lyrical insight is matched by a smooth baritone voice, virtuosic guitar chops, and creative open tunings, giving him a range and tenderness rare in folk music. He released an independent album in 1987, was a winner of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk award in 1988, and by 1989 he had signed with A&M Records. His first release on the label, ‘How Did You Find Me Here’, sold over 100,000 copies the first year largely by word of mouth. Now, over 18 albums into a career marked by personal revelation and wildly loyal fans, David continues to find and deliver joy, inspiration, and invention. Considered a ‘songwriter’s songwriter’, he holds audiences rapt with nothing more than a single guitar, thoroughly written songs, a fearless ability to mine the depths of human emotions of joy, sorrow and everything in between, and all tempered by a quick and wry wit.
