Heee-heeeeeeeeeeeeeee boys & girls! Wij moonwalken zo maar episode 72 in. Time does really fly when you're having fun!
For the first time in nearly a decade a sitting American President is travelling to China. While tensions between the US and China have been simmering for a while now, over everything from tariffs to Taiwan, Donald Trump has expressed admiration for his powerful Chinese counterpart. Meanwhile in China, President Xi has been conducting a years long “purge” on the military elite. In the spring of 92 AD, Gaius and Germanicus gather in a Londinium wine bar to analyze the 3,400-year history of conflict in the Middle East. They compare the modern American President to the dramatic and often violent outbursts of Emperor Nero. Germanicus argues that while Israel and Iran are currently locked in an existential struggle seeking each other's total diminishment, the United States acts as the primary restraining power. This dynamic creates a framework of "ceremonial war," where violence is utilized as a diplomatic tool to seek negotiated advantage rather than total destruction. The speakers contrast this with the July Crisis of 1914, noting that unlike the fragmented Europeanpowers of the past, Washington now holds the unique capacity to orchestrate global outcomes. However, they identify a significant threat within the "American Imperial Court," where apocalyptic factions push for an existential victory, making the President reluctant to offer concessions that might appear as a defeat. They debate whether leaders are truly committed to these paths or if they are merely performing for their audiences. Ultimately, they suggest that escalation is a present reality driven by deep-seated belief systems, despite the common assumption that the world operates on rational principles. They conclude that the outcome depends heavily on the internal politics of the imperial palace. 11922 NERO
Host Jesse Jackson welcomes returning guest Jeff Blum, a Chicago-based freelance sports and entertainment writer and para-professional working with autistic students. They briefly discuss current sports topics including the Bulls' streaky season, trades, and franchise management, plus comparisons to other struggling teams. Jeff shares limited impressions of Springsteen's large “Tracks 2” set, mentions favorite deep cuts, and discusses seeing the Springsteen-related film, praising its entertainment value and its connection to renewed appreciation for the album Nebraska. The conversation then shifts to Aaron Sorkin's work, starting with Sports Night and covering The American President, A Few Good Men, The West Wing, The Newsroom, Moneyball, The Social Network, Steve Jobs, Molly's Game, and Charlie Wilson's War, emphasizing sharp dialogue, morality, journalism standards, and changing media culture. Jeff plugs upcoming writing on the Olympics and a list of 1976 albums turning 50 in 2026, and Jesse closes with show contact and network information. Learn more about your ad choices. Good morning. They say that religion and politics don't mix, but it's impossible to separate the two when the Pope and the American President have gone head-to-head over the war in Iran. In a social media post, President Trump accused Pope Leo of being weak and advised that he should “focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician”. Pope Leo responded by insisting that he's not a politician, but that the message of the Gospel, “‘Blessed are the peacemakers', is a message that the world needs to hear today”. This confrontation has catapulted the Pope onto the front pages of the world's media, but he's not the first modern pope to speak out against war. In 2003, when then Cardinal Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI, was asked to comment on the Iraq war, he said that “There were not sufficient reasons to unleash a war against Iraq.” He went on to ask “if it is still licit to admit the very existence of a ‘just war'.” St Augustine gave a Christian interpretation to the idea of the just war in the early 5th century. He argued that, terrible though war always is, it is sometimes necessary to defend the innocent and preserve peace. However, it must seek the future well-being of the enemy, and be free from the lust for power or desire to dominate. These ideas were developed by St Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century, and they continued to shape western politics and international law long after Christianity ceased to be a major political influence. However ineffectual it might sometimes have become in the heat of battle, just war theory provided a restraining influence on the waging of war, especially with regard to the need to avoid the intentional targeting of non-combatants. Today, the nature of modern weapons and the bombing of densely populated areas means that civilian casualties, including children, usually far outnumber military deaths. This is the context in which the Catholic Church's opposition to war must be interpreted. Pope Leo is continuing a tradition set by all modern popes since the 1960s. In his Palm Sunday address, he quoted the prophet Isaiah when he said that Jesus “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them, saying: ‘Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood'.” This is religious language, but it holds politicians accountable for shedding innocent blood. How could it do otherwise, when Christians worship a crucified God?
The American President, Donald Trump, says peace talks between the US and Iran could resume in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad in a matter of days.
Matt and J Gulinello (HealthReclamationProject.com) is in studio for the night and I don't even know how to describe the mix of topics I have on tap. There are new letters being added to the Identity Crisis Acronym by Canadian Liberals, and to claim membership of this community you must be dead first… Then we have confirmation of the Ghost Murmur tech that was used to find a downed fighter pilot with nothing but a heartbeat; Zohran Mamdani is announcing new policies aimed at redistributing White city-dwellers' income. Then we speculate on how many American Presidents we can vanquish in hand-to-hand combat (in order of Presidency), and other extra items, like Dolphin Sex Jelly…. “We can survive. Can we thrive? That's a different question.” — Corey NathanRobert Mueller died last week. Educated at Princeton, this Vietnam veteran won a Purple Heart and then enjoyed decades of public service under presidents of both parties. But the current president celebrated Mueller's death. Such are the vagaries of American history. In contrast, Corey Nathan — host of the Talking Politics and Religion Without Killing Each Other podcast — isn't celebrating Robert Mueller's death. Nathan is from suburban northern Los Angeles County, very much at the heart of the (mythical?) American center. We discussed whether it's possible to have a civic conversation anymore. Like so many Americans, Nathan falls back on what he calls “data.” Apparently 85% of Americans are what a recent study calls the “exhausted majority.” They see themselves as anything but extreme. All they want to do is take the kids to soccer practice, enjoy their barbecue, and talk to the neighbour without the conversation degenerating into verbal war.Nathan's own story offers hope. He grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family whose roots go back eight hundred years to what is now Chernihiv in Ukraine. In his late twenties, he became a born-again Christian. His father seriously considered sitting Shiva for him — the mourning ritual for a dead family member. But he valued his relationship with his son more than his theological convictions. Twenty-five years later, the conversations are richer than ever. If an Orthodox Jewish father and his born-again Christian son can keep talking, maybe even the current American President could sit Shiva for Robert Mueller. Five Takeaways• 85% of Americans Are the Exhausted Majority: The Hidden Tribes study by More in Common found that only 6–7% on the right and 7–8% on the left are what we'd think of as extremes. The rest — 85% — are far more nuanced in their views. They want to go to the barbecue, take the kids to soccer practice, and have a conversation with the neighbour without it turning into a war. The conflict entrepreneurs on both sides have taken all the oxygen.• Mueller Was Everything We Say We Want in Our Kids: Purple Heart. Ivy League education. Used his degrees for public service instead of money. Served under presidents of both parties. Stayed on at the FBI after 9/11 when the country needed him. And the current president said he was glad he died.• ICE Came to the Neighbouring Church: Nathan's pastor had to have the conversation: if ICE comes, they're welcome to worship — but here are our legal obligations. A suburban mom was shot in her front seat two months ago. Is anything visibly wrong in the American suburbs? Today, at his house, no. But these things are happening all over the country.• His Father Almost Sat Shiva for Him: Nathan grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family. In his late twenties, he became a born-again Christian. His father seriously considered performing the mourning ritual for a living son. But he valued the relationship with his child more than his theological convictions. Twenty-five years later, the conversations are richer than ever.• We Can Survive. Can We Thrive? Nathan's family lived in what is now Chernihiv, Ukraine, for eight hundred years. One day to the next, nothing changed — until the Cossacks burned the houses and the Bolsheviks came. Democracy isn't perfect, but it's the system that lets us thrive, not just survive. About the GuestCorey Nathan is the host and producer of Talking Politics and Religion Without Killing Each Other, a top 1% podcast. He lives in northern Los Angeles County.References:• Talking Politics and Religion Without Killing Each Other — Nathan's podcast.• Episode 2849: How Stories Can Save Us — Colum McCann on Narrative Four, referenced in the conversation.• Episode 2846: How to Be Agreeably Disagreeable — Julia Minson on disagreeing better. We've not been here before. An American President who initiated a war and, because he lies as he breathes, the American people really don't know what's going on in this war. They have to go to sources other than the president to get at the truth. Obviously, this is a bad and dangerous place to be. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Dr. Michael Cairo is a Professor of Political Science and the Program Director of International Affairs at Transylvania University, Lexington, Kentucky His most recent book is “American Presidents and Israeli Settlements since 1967.” Land and territorial claims dominate the conflict in the Middle East. The United Nations created Israel and Palestine in 1948. In June of 1967, during the Six Day War, Israel conquered the Gaza Strip, West Bank and Jerusalem. Palestinians have worked to develop an autonomous state. Several attempts have been launched to bring peace over the past several decades. After the October 2023 attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians, Israel launched a fierce counterattack against the Palestinians, where reportedly over 80,000 Palestinians were killed. Devastation applied to homes and Infrastructure, health services, clean water, sanitary services, to mention a few. US influence is weakening due to siding with Netanyahu and not being as committed to rebuilding Gaza.
NOTE: THIS EPISODE WAS RELEASED IN MID-MARCH 2026 BUT WAS RECORDED IN EARLY-JANUARY 2026.This week on Hashtag History, we will be wrapping up our discussion of the American Presidents which we first brought to you in Episode 159 with Part One. We will be picking up with the twenty-sixth President of the United States and going to present day, sharing quick tidbits about their accomplishments, their downfalls, and how they shaped American history...but also, the juicy details. This goes without saying that there is some bias that comes into play with putting together an episode like this, right? That is the nature of historiography; it is at the discretion of the historian what they personally believe to be interesting or noteworthy enough to include in their research. And so that's certainly the case here as well and not something I'll shy away from. The few facts and details I am going to share about each of the presidents were selected by me personally which means these are the things that I personally felt it most important (or, in some case, just the most interesting or juicy) to include.Follow Hashtag History on Instagram @hashtaghistory_podcast for all of the pictures mentioned in this episode.Citations for all sources can be located on our website at www.HashtagHistory-Pod.com. The State of the Regime address presented a new reality of an American President openly defying the legitimacy of a Supreme Court ruling, even though that same court ruled to provide him with unprecedented protections from justice while serving...an odd choice to allow tariff greed to outweighing the self-serving importance of maintaining the court's illusion of authority. Ringmaster James T. takes the day off to honor our American Presidents, well, some of them, but never fear, Chris Krok is here to fill-in. So, apparently, a manager of a Mexican restaurant in Old-Time Scottsdale is in hot water for apparently cutting of the Super Bowl halftime show to play a looped DJ mix of "Ice Ice Baby". The reason he is in trouble is because of bunch of white liberals, mostly white women, complained. Chris plays the audio of one of those women, who by the way doesn't even live in Arizona! Speaking of white liberal women, everything they do and say referring to the Latino community is basically putting them in a box and they better not deviate from their beliefs and set rules. Plus, Senator Kelly is upset that DHS purchased a warehouse in Surprise for immigration purposes, saying no one in Surprise wants that, so we check in with our Surprise listeners to see if that's true. All this and much more, take a listen on this beautiful President's Day.
BEING THOMAS JEFFERSON: An Intimate History (Bloomsbury), is the deepest dive yet into the heart and soul, secret affairs, unexplored alliances, and bitter feuds of a generally worshipped, intermittently reviled American icon from accomplished Jefferson scholar and biographer Andrew Burstein. A prolific historian of early American politics and culture long specializing in the life of the mind in bygone times, Burstein peels back the curtain on Jefferson. He shows the most articulate of the founding generation to have been a seductive, quietly ambitious theoretician who privately wavered “between involvement and retreat, between conviction and irresolution,” he writes.About the author: ANDREW BURSTEIN recently retired from Louisiana State University where he was the Charles P. Manship Professor of History. He is the author of The Passions of Andrew Jackson, Jefferson's Secrets, and numerous other books on early American politics and culture. He is co-author (with Nancy Isenberg) of Madison and Jefferson and The Problem of Democracy. He is on the Advisory Committee of the Papers of Thomas Jefferson. Burstein's writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and on Salon. He advised Ken Burns's production Thomas Jefferson, and was featured on C-SPAN's American Presidents series and Booknotes, as well as numerous NPR programs. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia. #andrewburstein#charlottesville#monticello #authorpodcast #speakingofwriterspodcast #books

Listen to the article with analysis from the author: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to travel to the US to meet with President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The discussion will center on Iran. “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with US President Donald Trump this Wednesday in Washington, and will discuss with him the negotiations with Iran,” a statement posted to the Israeli Prime Minister’s account on Saturday said. Prime Minister’s Office announcement: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with US President Donald Trump this Wednesday in Washington, and will discuss with him the negotiations with Iran. — Prime Minister of Israel (@IsraeliPM) February 7, 2026 The meeting was requested by Netanyahu, and it will be the seventh with Trump in the past year. The Israeli leader wants to ensure the American President reaches an agreement with Tehran that does not cross Tel Aviv's red lines. The statement was posted following US and Iranian talks held in Oman. “They had a very good meeting with a very high representative Iran, of Iran, and we'll see how it all turns out,” Trump said on Air Force One on Friday. “We're going to meet again early next week, and they want to make a deal, Iran, as they should want to make a deal.” He continued, “They know the consequences if they don't. If they don't make a deal, the consequences are very steep. So we'll see what happens.” Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran in recent weeks over the country's nuclear and missile programs, as well as Tehran’s crackdown on demonstrators. The President has ordered a massive military buildup in the Middle East and instructed the Department of War to create military plans for a “decisive” attack on Iran. Even if Tehran agrees to a deal with Washington, Israeli officials have told Trump that Tel Aviv may decide to unilaterally attack Iran if the agreement does not meet Israel's redlines on Iranian ballistic missiles. “We told the Americans we will strike alone if Iran crosses the red line we set on ballistic missiles,” a source told The Jerusalem Post. An Israeli defense official told the outlet that Tel Aviv had a “historic opportunity” to strike a blow to Tehran's missile program. Another Israeli official said Tel Aviv was concerned Trump may decide to strike Iran, but it will not be expansive enough to eliminate the threat posed by Iran's ballistic missiles. “The worry is he might choose a few targets, declare success, and leave Israel to deal with the fallout, just like with the Houthis,” they explained. A source explained to Axios that Netanyahu “intended to send a message to Iran that Trump has other options if the negotiations fail.” In June, Israel attacked Iran, knowing that the US would have to be drawn into the conflict for Tel Aviv to achieve its goals. After about a week, Trump ordered the US to attack three Iranian nuclear facilities that Israel lacked the military capability to destroy. On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran was unwilling to negotiate on its missile program. Tehran has said it’s willing to negotiate additional inspections and limitations on its civilian nuclear program.

In support of the US peace plan for Gaza, President Trump proposed a “Board of Peace” as a transitional governmental authority to ensure Israeli military withdrawal from the territory. It was empowered by the UN Security Council to act on the organization's behalf as a presumably neutral body to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance, rebuild the region that has been physically devastated from war, and oversee security in the return of refugees who have fled the conflict. But as introduced by the American President at the World Economic Forum meetings in Davos in January, it has become a controversial body. Trump advanced a vision of the body, one which includes a payment of one billion dollars (to whom it is still unclear) that could challenge the UN. On today's show we start with an exploration of this new vision for the organization advanced by the US. [ dur: 28mins. ] Stefan Wolff is Professor of International Security at the University of Birmingham. His latest book is Ethnic Conflict: Critical Concepts in Political Science. His latest include Europe must reject Trump's nonsense accusations of ‘civilizational erasure' – but it urgently needs a strategy of its own and Donald Trump's Board of Peace signed at Davos – key points I took away from my visit to the ski resort The Board of Peace was initially and ostensibly created to govern Gaza in light of a peace agreement with the intention of removing Israeli military forces in exchange for a neutral transitional government. This was endorsed by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2803 with very specific tasks outlined, including aiding in the creation of Palestinian governance, the physical and economic reconstruction of the war-torn territory, the delivery of public services and humanitarian assistance, and the return of refugees. In this segment, we examine the Board's ability to accomplish its defined set of goals. [ dur: 30mins. ] John B. Quigly is a Professor of Law Emeritus at Ohio State University. On this episode of You Are What You Read, we are remembering the great Rob Reiner and his beautiful wife, Michele Singer Reiner. We had the honor of hosting Mr. Reiner on You Are What You Read in October with his memoir, A Fine Line Between Stupid and Clever: The Story of Spinal Tap, which he co-wrote with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and David Kamp. Rob is a two-time Emmy–winning actor for his role in All in the Family. He is also the acclaimed director of This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men, The American President, Ghosts of Mississippi, and The Bucket List. When Rob Reiner met Michele Singer on the set of When Harry Met Sally, he changed the ending of the film to the now-iconic conclusion… Michele Singer was a world-renowned photographer, producer and activist. Together, they spearheaded a tobacco tax initiative in California to fund early childhood development and chaired the state commission to oversee its implementation. In 2008, Michele and Rob cofounded The American Foundation For Equal Rights, which paved the way for marriage equality nationwide. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The National Security Hour with Major Fred Galvin – Major Fred Galvin exposes the most aggressive information-warfare campaign ever unleashed against a sitting American President — a coordinated domestic propaganda operation that America's foreign adversaries could only dream of. This week on Hashtag History, we will be discussing the American Presidents. All of them…well, most of them. In this week's episode, we will be sharing some quick tidbits about the first twenty-five presidents (with more to come in Part Two next season): Their accomplishments, their downfalls, and how they shaped American history...but also, the juicy details. Clay and his popular guest, Lindsay Chervinsky, discuss the history of American presidents and the fourth estate. Almost all presidents are frustrated by a free press, and some have attempted to censor it. Beginning with George Washington (who was thin-skinned but did not strike out at the opposition), through Adams and Jefferson, and all the way to Richard Nixon, the First Amendment has been a casualty of real or perceived national and international crises. The Sedition Act of 1798 and the Espionage Act of 1918 have much in common. Thomas Jefferson, as usual, said all the right things about the importance of a free press, but he also encouraged the governor of Pennsylvania to undertake a few wholesome prosecutions of the most vitriolic Federalist newspapers. Generally speaking, after periods of censorship during national security crises, the pendulum swings back to the center. This program aims to provide historical context and clarity amid our own First Amendment crisis. This episode was recorded on October 17, 2025.
