In this week's episode, I'm joined by two super women: Saffron Darby, textile designer, tailor and founder of Meet Make Mend, and Ali Clifford, creative mentor, sustainability champion and founder of incredibusy , and the genius behind the sustainably, UK-made Salvage Speed Loom.We talk about creativity as connection, the gentle power of hand-stitching, and how crafting alongside others opens up the most unexpected conversations. We also share the story of how my beloved learned to darn (and now carries around a mending kit), how my 13-year-old fixed his own pyjamas with a bright pink patch, and how I repaired a jumper knitted my mum made, and reclaimed the joy in having it back in my life.We get into:The beautiful serendipity of how Ali & Saffron first metThe rise of visible mending and why it mattersHow Meet Make Mend became a lifeline during lockdownWhy handiwork opens the door for deeper connectionSustainability, slow fashion and what repairing clothes teaches us about ourselvesIf you've ever wanted to mend something you love, or you crave more creative connection in your life, this episode will warm your heart.Find Ali: @incredibusy And for her upcoming workshop - 3rd December https://palava.co/products/mending-workshopFind Saffron: Brown in Town - https://brownintown.co.ukOn Instagram - @bumbleandbeetleAnd for a newly announced workshop in Cardiff on 15th February - https://www.bethmorrisworkshops.co.uk/guest-workshops-1/p/visiblemendingtheartofbrokenthingswithsaffrondarbyBooks and Instagram Accounts Recommended by Saffron & Ali:Celia Pym - https://celiapym.comLove Heartwood - https://www.loveheartwood.co.ukThe Art of Repair - Molly Martin - https://mollymartin.ukMending Life - Sonya and Nina Monenegro - @ThefarwoodsMarlen Meiners - @milli_and_the_beeThe Art of Knitwear Repair - Minttu Wikberg - @pawlymadeAlix Brinck - @alexandrabrinck

Send us a textWhat are you gonna be for Halloween? Yeah, I don't know either. Playlist:Foals - Olympic AirwaysGrimes - Kill V. We're back for another Life in the Fast Lane, and what could be better? Europe in the Summer. What a Beautiful Place. We kick things off with the Tokyo Drift Minute, wherein Joe explains Japanese high school lunch service. Then, in a shocking turn of events, we re-order the Fast Lane agenda (again) to move right into Running the VIN as we enter every gym Vin Diesel has visited over the past two weeks. We guess Vin Diesel's net worth and wonder if Fast and Furious is connected to Nightmare on Elm Street. Is Kojak happening? We lay our bets on it (and all of Vin's upcoming films). We get a huge update for our shop! What does a Fast and Furious movie straight from Vin Diesel's brain look like? We dream about the possibility. Joe shares a theory he's working on about the Finger Lakes and a time he worked with the cops. We talk about Joey's bachelor party and offer a bounty for our Ohio listeners. George Pickens said congrats to Minkah and "back to beautiful places." Bob thinks we shouldn't care about stuff like this on social media. Penguins sign defenseman Parker Wotherspoon. Phil Kessel made all of us better.
Hour 4 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Spencer Horwitz at the leadoff spot worked Monday and Michael McKenry likes Horwitz there with his approach. He thinks Cruz could have a 19-20 home run month because the freedom of mind is coming for Cruz. He hit over 80 mph with his bat speed. George Pickens said congrats to Minkah and "back to beautiful places."

We all know the feeling: life should be good. From the outside, everything looks fine—even enviable. But inside? It's a different story. In this deeply moving episode, Brytani shares her journey as an active duty Marine who quietly carries the weight of depression, suicidal thoughts, and the ache of loneliness. Despite the strength she shows on the outside, Brytani's story reveals the hidden cracks beneath the surface—the loss of meaningful relationships, the struggle to find purpose in a career that no longer feels aligned, and the painful fight to access the mental health care she desperately needs. Her honesty will stop you in your tracks. Because her story is our story—the story of holding it all together while falling apart. Of smiling in photos, but crying alone. Of feeling despair even when the world sees a beautiful life. If you've ever felt the disconnect between what your life looks like and how it actually feels, this conversation will make you feel seen. Brytani reminds us that healing begins with honesty. That doing the basics is sometimes the bravest thing we can do. And that reaching out—whether you're the one hurting or the one who wants to help—matters more than we know. Listen in for a conversation that's raw, real, and achingly relatable. You are not alone. Award-winning author Neil Humphreys tells co-host Glenn van Zutphen his recent whirlwind trip to Tangkuban Perahu, the volcanic crater in Bandung, Indonesia. From the Star Voyager cruise ship to the high-speed Whoosh train in Jakarta, Neil made it through the mountainous, long and winding roads of West Java to visit one of the most spectacular sites in South-East Asia. The volcano was worth the trip, even though he nearly got left behind in Bandung. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A sermon by the Very Rev. Sam Candler on the First Sunday in Lent (March 9, 2025) at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta
Where are the places that bring you life? If you were encouraged to come back to the places you know bring life, where would you go? Where are the places that have awakened and reawakened you? Where are the places that have brought deep sustenance and joy and wonder and curiosity to your life? Where have you bumped into God? I reached out to some of my dearest friends and family members who I thought might appreciate that question, and the answers they offered are pure delight. Special guests Lauren Myers, Andrew and Diana Barge, and Clark Cothern share their life-giving places. And singer-songwriter Andrew Osenga gifts us with his incredible song "Beautiful Places." This is an episode months in the making. Come join in on this adventure of imagination and anticipation. "Beautiful Places" used by permission.

Introducing SZA on Making Music From a Beautiful Place from The Run-Through with Vogue.Follow the show: The Run-Through with Vogue The Fashion Awards took place in London last night at the Royal Albert Hall, and British Vogue's Chioma Nnadi skipped all the afterparties so that she could join Nicole Phelps immediately afterwards and give us a rundown of the evening. We also have an extra-special treat: a conversation between Nnadi and SZA, British Vogue's current cover star. This conversation feels less like an interview and more like sitting in on a conversation between two friends; which makes sense since Nnadi and Solána—SZA's real name, and how Nnadi calls her—go back over a decade.
