How to Create Lasting Change In Yourself & Your Relationship How many times have you read books, taken classes, and taken steps to change yourself or your relationship, but couldn't quite get that change to last? Using the transtheoretical model of change, here is what you need to know in order to make the changes you desire in yourself and your relationship. Roadmap for Successful & Lasting Change: Identify where you are at on the transformation journey: o Pre-Contemplation: D-day just happened and you are struggling to come to terms with what happened. (A good time to see a qualified therapist!) o Contemplation: You've accepted the reality of your situation and you are starting to explore your options and learn what might be available to you. (A good time to read, listen to podcasts, and use on-line or group coaching programs.) o Preparation: This is where you learn (and practice!) the tools, skills, and habits necessary for you to be successful and manage setbacks. (A good time for one-on-one coaching so you can be sure you are cultivating the skills necessary to soar!) o Action: The time to take action begins only after you've learned how to support the changes you desire. (Accountability and support are critical here!) 90 Days to create a habit: Go slow! Be patient, have grace, and expect failure along the way. Change one or two things at a time: Clearly identify what you want to change so you can know if you are succeeding or not. Don't overwhelm yourself with too much. Work on both “sides”: Change takes place on both “sides” of the coin. The logical side and the emotional side, the conscious side and the unconscious side, etc. Work to change both your actions and your thoughts. Use journaling, meditation, & somatic movement to lock in change: These modalities are the backbone of tools necessary for successful change and to finally BECOME all that you want to be! o Maintenance: In this phase, you refine what you want and practice living your best life! o Termination: You and your relationship have become who you wanted them to be! Are you ready to finally create the change you desire? Working to Live: Finding the Balance with Rob Regan What's the most important thing to you in life? Most people would say something like friends, family, or living comfortably. But how much of your time goes to those things? More often than not, 'successful' people spend almost all their days in their careers, unable to be with the things they say are the most important.  This episode delves into the concept of "working to live" as we explore Rob Regan's journey. He describes the three most powerful years in his life and how they all involve the most important things to him: family, rugby, and work. Most executives get completely stuck at the office, but Rob has found the balance between work and the rest of his life.  As for how he did it, sometimes we really have to take a terrifying step away from what we've been doing all our lives. If you're wondering how to get back to what you love the most while still managing your career — and, frankly, the rest of your life — then this episode is for you. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover the art of working to live. Learn what it means to be genuinely vulnerable — no matter how tough you seem. Uncover what it means to become who you are and return to what's most important to you, even if you've lost touch for a while. Resources  Contact Rob on LinkedIn Coaching with Angela Cox Listen to The Mindset Mentor Meets Episode Highlights  [01:43] Rob's Balancing Act Rob tries to balance his life around family, rugby, and work. His wife, Nicola, might disagree on his priorities, but he does his best to keep things equal. He admits that he doesn't do much outside those three things. Rob also questions himself often: can he say he's proud of himself, or is he proud of what he's done? [03:31] First of the Biggest Years: 2010 Rob's biggest years and proudest moments involve the birth of his daughter, Amy, in 2010. Rob and Nicola had difficulty having Amy and needed to undergo IVF. But Amy came into this world successfully. 2010 was also a big year for him and rugby. Rob admits that he doesn't have a talent for rugby, but his skill in the sport — like at work — comes from tremendous effort to build himself up rather than innate talent. He captained the Bromley RFC's third team at 35, leading them to a big win over their rivals in a high-scoring game. [08:56] A Story of Childhood Sweethearts Nicola and Rob got together at 14 and stayed together for nine years. Rob admits that he wasn't a good partner at the time — and even says that he ticked every box on how not to be a great boyfriend. They eventually split up in their early twenties and got married to different partners but returned to each other much later on. [10:32] Second of the Biggest Years: 2020 In 2020, Rob experienced the COVID lockdown. It was tough for Amy, as she had joined several clubs that required being physically at the club. Rob is particularly proud of how his family, particularly Amy, worked together to overcome the challenges of being in a lockdown. On his end, Rob was about to sell his company, which made his work life extremely difficult. Rob didn't feel that he was working at home. Instead, he felt that he was living at work. While his proudest moments in 2020 were the excellent outcomes for Amy, Rob is also glad that he learned to prioritise himself and his family over work. [17:31] Becoming Who You Are, Again 2020 was a period of enormous changes for Rob, between leaving Royal London, selling the business, and the looming pandemic. Rob said that he'd been struggling with a complete loss of identity. His raison d'etre had been work for so long and nothing else. [20:10] Third of the Biggest Years: 2023 In 2023, Amy played the part of Miss Honey in Matilda. On the last night of the performances, a little girl asked Amy for her autograph. Amy was somewhat nervous and anxious growing up but being in theatre boosted her confidence. 2023 was also about mental health for Rob and Nicola. Nicola's healthier now after receiving a cancer diagnosis back in 2018. On Rob's end, the Principality Building Society has a healthy culture that takes employee well-being seriously. He ended up telling his life story during a lunch and learn session. [25:37] What It Means to Be Vulnerable Many people, particularly executives, view vulnerability as a tick-box exercise. However, true vulnerability is raw honesty. Being vulnerable, according to Rob, is unsettling and scary. He admits he's been a bit of a control freak all his life, so being vulnerable feels utterly alien. 2023 was a year of real enlightenment for Rob — it's taught him to recognise his flaws better. He's always felt out of his depth when it comes to work. Rob describes himself as the electrician who, somehow, ended up running a £17b investment business. [32:28] This Is What Matters Your job, titles and promotions matter less than you might think. Rob spent so much of his life chasing his career but found that his family was far more important than anything at his job. Rob has a few regrets, one of them involving how he treated people. He believes there's no excuse for that — you have to accept responsibility, even if you don't know how badly you acted at the time. [35:22] The Definition of Success Rob's secret to success is about defining success for yourself first. The environment most people live in is relentless, thankless, and in some work cultures, ruthless, making resilience a critical core trait. However, Rob's question about success is, ‘Are you comfortable with yourself and your own skin?' Rob's advice is to learn to like yourself without sounding too arrogant — you won't always please everyone. 5 Powerful Quotes [04:18] 'I'm not a great rugby player. My rugby life and my work life are very similar, which is: bags of effort, and no talent.' [16:22] ‘I finally realised that doing the right thing for yourself and your family was much more important than work — and it was absolutely terrifying. But I stepped away and decided I was going to retire.' [24:48] ‘I could never imagine me: thick-skinned, cauliflower ear, Welsh rugby bloke being able to say stuff that would help people and make a difference in our space.' [27:06] 'Every day is still a school day. I've got all the same flaws I've always had, but I'm getting better at recognising them.' [34:14] 'I wasn't always the best version of myself; I didn't always treat people the way that they deserve to be treated. I tried to correct some of that later on with some individuals, and they kind of look at you a bit, "Well, shame you didn't think of that 10, 15 years ago, but you can't change the past," and what I'll do is do a better job. About Rob Rob Regan is the CEO of the Principality Building Society, a multi-billion pound building society. Rob has worked as an executive in multiple companies, including the Lloyds Banking Group, Royal London, and Ascentric. However, at the end of everything, he discovered that family is the most important thing in life. You can connect with Rob through LinkedIn. Enjoy this Podcast? What's the most important thing to you? Defining success is all about what you want from life. Some people wish to have high-powered careers. Others might like a quiet life. Rob prefers his family. Becoming United Ephesians: Becoming Who You Are November 13, 2022 I love a good musical. My favorite is probably Singin' In the Rain... or Seven Brides For Seven Brothers... or... My Fair Lady (which I get to see in Portland with my daughter next Spring!) ...there are just so many good ones! Another that would land in my top ten would be The Music Man... the classic with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. I've worked with enough young interns to know that I can't take anything for granted when it comes to the musical education of the younger generations. So, for those of you who have not yet seen this classic film, allow me to enlighten you.   “Professor” Harold Hill arrives in River City, Iowa, posing as an organizer and leader of a boys' band. In reality, he's a just a slick con man. He convinces the naïve townspeople to purchase band uniforms and instruments from him, while promising to train the young band members. But his real intentions are to skip town with their money.   As you might expect, nothing goes as Professor Hill planned. I don't want to spoil the ending for those of you who haven't seen it. So, let's just say that something special starts to happen when those boys put on their band uniforms. A new identity starts to be shaped, and there's a transformation that begins to happen in the community. The boys are playing a variety of instruments – it's not all trombones or cornets; each one playing at their own level of competence. But something about being part of the group, dressed in their uniforms but contributing their own unique ability to the band, creates something powerful among them.   We are studying our way through the book of Ephesians in a series we've called, Becoming Who You Are. This week, we'll be looking at the idea of unity – what it is, what it isn't, and how we promote and protect it.    At the end of the movie, we see the uniformity of the River City boys' band, as they march in formation, all dressed alike, steps in sync. But it's their unity – being in tune with one another, playing at the same tempo, maintaining the same rhythm, and staggering their breathing, that matters most…each one playing their part and contributing to the performance of the song.   The beautiful organism that we call the church is also filled with a diverse group of people…all crafted in the image of God…but with different backgrounds, a variety of giftings, and individual uniqueness. We are not the same, but the miracle of Jesus is that unity brings it all together.

Becoming Secure Ephesians: Becoming Who You Are October 16, 2022 I would wager to guess that just about everyone watching this video has looked in a mirror at least once today. Imagine if you crawled out of bed one morning and, after making your way to bathroom, looked in the mirror and discovered that your reflection was distorted – like the image you might see in a funhouse mirror. Perhaps your nose looks too big, or your forehead too narrow, or your eyes too round. Would you wonder what was wrong with the mirror? Or would you wonder what had happened to yourself?   We're launching a new sermon series this weekend on the book of Ephesians; a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the church in the city of Ephesus. The series is titled: Becoming Who You Are. The book of Ephesians deals with topics that are at the very core of what it means to be a Christian; on who we are in Christ and what it should look like to live out our identity as a follower of Jesus; to not just be a believer – knowing truth – but a follower, who lives it out.   Join us as we dig into the rich truths of Paul's letter to the Ephesians and discover the timeless truths that God has for us, as we live out our calling as followers of Christ in our culture and community.

Hi fam! Welcome to the season 2 FINALE. What a season it has been, 36 episodes later + I could not be more proud of my team and all they have accomplished. Most importantly, we are incredibly grateful for those of you who choose to listen to It's Hard. I feel like I am truly fulfilling my mission to help people feel less alone in what they are going through, the messages you send + the proof that you listen everyday is what keeps me going each week. This episode was inspired by someone who messaged me and asked to speak on this topic. Honestly, it is a challenging thing for me to talk about and an incredibly vulnerable conversation. However, I know that many people struggle or have struggled with this and sharing stories is how we connect and get through the hard things in life. Have you ever felt as though you lost yourself in a relationship? You and your partner break up and you feel lost + have no clue who you are anymore? You aren't alone. I jumped from relationship to relationship at a young age, I felt as though I knew who I was but in hindsight, I had no clue. This led to me having no idea what I wanted or deserved and allowing behaviors that ultimately caused an intense amount of anxiety + trauma. In this episode, I share my story and how I pulled myself up after being at rock bottom post-breakup. I hope you know that you aren't alone, you deserve love + respect, and it is always okay to do what is best for YOU. Thank you all for continuing to support It's Hard, I truly am forever grateful for all the love + support. I hope you continue to find this community to be a safe place that offers you love and belonging. We will be back on SEPTEMBER 6th for It's Hard SEASON 3! God sees who we really are before we can see it ourselves. He knows I am not my anger; I am not my fear or my pride – those don't shape my true identity. Therefore, His work in our lives is not about changing us into someone different, it's about empowering us to become who we really are. We are constantly tempted to base our identity on the great things we do. Jesus was tempted with this too: leap from the top of the temple, do something impressive so people will like you! But Jesus said, “I don't need to do something impressive. I am loved by God, and that is enough.”

On this episode of the Freecast, the Portsmouth plastic bag ban gets a reprieve from the man, but it's the man known as Jeb who wants to keep marijuana in perpetual prohibition. But on the bright side, FF17 tix are for sale son! Next on this transmission of the Freecast. News Update on the Plastic Bag Ban The city of Portsmouth have once again postponed a vote on a plastic bag ban and will not be brought up before the council again before being examined by Portsmouth's city manager. Former 3-term State Rep Fred Rice spoke in opposition to the ban saying the city if they proposed the ban said that by passing this ordinance the city would probably have a lawsuit against this as this ban discriminates against some businesses but not all. He noted as Matt did that businesses use the plastic bags because of economic reasons and would raise costs if they were banned. A related bill, HB 481 going through the state to delegate this power to ban plastic bags by municipalities was deemed inexpedient to legislate earlier this year. Hopefully, this will finally put to bed this insane ordinance proposal. Jim Boyle Toyota dealership update. Within 2 hours the entire three-story building collapsed. Luckily everyone got out safely. The four-story brick building where part of the dining room was in an adjacent building is still standing and the fire dept says it is structurally sound. But may be torn down if the property owners decide because it suffered damage from the fires. The Red Cross has volunteers helping out the residents who were displaced by the fires. A GoFundMe page has been started for those affected by the State Street Saloon fire in Portsmouth at gofundme.com/state-street-residents-employees. New Hampshire's 2,535 civilian workers were paid $177,703,837 in wages with Rochester and Dover accounting for the yard's largest Granite State contingency at 413 and 365 employees respectively. Shipyard workers live in more than 58 Granite State communities. Here is statism at its finest. All these jobs are paid for with either stolen money or money printed out of thin air. When libertarians want to close these places down because they're immoral and unnecessary it draws criticism from both the political left and right. Crazy state senator tries to hijack marijuana decriminalization bill State Senator Jeb Bradley is calling for major changes in a Pot Decrim bill that passed the house 318-36 last month. The bill decrims pot possession up to 1 ounce from a misdemeanor to a violation, subject to fine only of $100, and prohibits police from arresting someone for it. Jebby wants to remove the non-arrest provision. And proposed reducing the decrim quantity to ½ ounce. How tone deaf can you be? Bradley says the amendments are a response to feedback from law enforcement, feedback, I might add they had plenty of time to give during the house bill hearings but refused to. What we're looking at is a small minority of people trying to hijack liberty for the entire state population. Philosophy of Liberty Three Sirens of Tyranny.   Seacoast History Phillips Exeter Academy Did you know we have one of the most prestigious high schools in the world? Alumni include: Daniel Webster, Franklin Pierce, Daniel Dennett, Gore Vidal, Dan Brown and Mark Zuckerberg The academy was founded in 1781 by John Phillips, a Harvard graduate banker and merchant and originally from Andover Ma. His nephew founded Phillips academy in Andover 3 years earlier. March 1783 56 students started the first class with free tuition. 1795 Phillips died and granted ⅔ of his estate to the Academy. In 1818 “the golden Branch” society was formed at the school to help students public speaking skills, now known as the Daniel Webster Debate Society Abraham Lincoln's son Todd went to the academy and the future president visited in March 1860 the year he was elected In 1930 Oil magnate and philanthropist Edward Harkness wrote a letter to the academy just before making a $5.8 million donation “What I have in mind is a classroom where students could sit around a table with a teacher who would talk with them and instruct them by a sort of tutorial or conference method, where each student would feel encouraged to speak up. This would be a real revolution in methods.” This method is pretty cool, instead of an authoritarian approach where you just have to regurgitate what the teacher says on a test and forget about it. The teacher and the students are all equals and the teacher just provides the tools for the discussion and the students lead the way. In 1970 the Academy trustees changed to have co-ed, allowing women in that fall. PEA currently has a student to teacher ratio of 5:1. 2017-2018 1 year tuition costs $50,880 for boarding students and $39,740 for day students. There are $22 million dollars available in financial aid grants which are not loans and don't need to be paid back for students from poorer families who qualify.
