On episode 466 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Linda Bark, PhD, RN, MCC, NC-BC, NBC-HWC, the founder of the Wisdom of the Whole Coaching Academy and a pioneer in the world of holistic nursing and nurse entrepreneurship. Linda also happens to be Keith's original coaching mentor on his path to become a Board Certified Nurse Coach. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Linda discuss the meaning of the similarities and differences between the terms holistic and integral, and how Linda has brought an integral approach to teaching coaching to thousands of nurses. Along with her colleague Barbie Dossey (another Nurse Keith Show alumna) and other nurse luminaries, Linda was one of the groundbreaking nurses who shepherded the creation of the Board Certified Nurse Coach designation and its acceptance and validation as a true nursing specialty. Linda wants nurses to understand that it pays to be integral and holistic on both a personal and professional level. Linda Bark has pioneered new professional health pathways by starting a nursing private practice in 1970 and by bringing holistic nursing to hospitals in the 80s. During the 90s she led medical tours to China, lived in China to discover how to help Westerners create a context for Eastern healing, and consulted to organizations nationwide to start healing centers. Ms. Bark has two nursing degrees, a masters in life transition counseling, and a PhD in philosophy and religion. She combined her education and experience to create the Wisdom of the Whole Coaching Academy, a home for discovery and exploration of a new integral way of coaching that benefits the coach, the client, and the world. She has trained coaches internationally in such organizations as the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, as well as KPMG and Welji in India. Linda has been involved in many professional areas. Dr. Bark received first place for professional development for her textbook The Wisdom of the Whole: Coaching for Joy, Health, and Success. She has been very instrumental in helping create national coach certification at AHNCC and NBHWC. Currently, she is an advisor to the Indian government to design a health coach certification there. Peer-reviewed research shows the efficacy of Bark's coaching model. Her work is multifaceted and includes her coaching academy, her private individual clients, and her corporate clients. She hopes all arenas are helping to build a new world with more kindness and justice, increased healing for the planet, more wholeness, and a deeper knowledge that we are all connected. In this episode, I interview Jill Jefferson, RN, BSN, HWNC-BC.  Jill is a Registered Nurse with a National Board Certification as a Holistic Nurse and Nurse Coach. Throughout her nursing career, Jill has completed coursework in functional medicine, food as medicine, mindfulness, yoga, acupuncture, and aromatherapy. Committed to caring for her patients in the most holistic approach possible, she became a Board-Certified Nurse Coach and has completed coursework in Functional Medicine for Nurses. She currently sees clients at NH Health & Wellness Center in Nashua, NH. We talk about her journey to becoming a nurse, a nurse coach, studying functional medicine, and now her decision to apply for nurse practitioner school.  With a background in economics and business, Jill took the bold brave leap to create her own practice, and hasn't looked back!  Many of us in the holistic nursing realm waiver on this decision to become an entrepreneur, so Jill's words and journey shared in this episode are so relatable! You can read more about Jill here: https://www.nhhealthwellness.com/team/jill-jefferson  Hosted by Brigitte Sager, NP, a functional medicine nurse practitioner, nurse coach, and an RN and NP FM educator. Today we are speaking with a Board-Certified Nurse Coach / Life Alignment Coach, Shawne Arceneaux.  Shawne is a Board-Certified Nurse Coach and a Life Alignment Coach. She helps others in the healing space find fulfillment and purpose in their work, while also guiding them to create the life and practice of their dreams. In this episode we dive into: 1) Shawne shares her story of shifting from nursing to nurse coaching and then life coaching to continue to support others in their growth journey.  We spoke about our inner child work, rewiring our past memories, and helping our inner child experience safety to support healing. 2) Shawne shared Brooke Castillo's coaching model, also called “thought work”.  There is a circumstance, it is a fact that is concrete.  That circumstance creates a thought and that thought creates a feeling, shame, embarrassment or resentment.  That feeling leads to an action that you do or do not take and that produces a result.  Thought work is identifying the thought, the feeling, the action and the results.  Using these key steps helped Shawne create change in her own personal life.  3) This is how Shawne built a better relationship with herself and this helped her to improve her self-talk over the years.  These steps on repeat helped her to increase her awareness to sit with and understand her feelings and to move forward to create massive change in her body and life. Small business owners are at especially high risk for burnout, as we often take on multiple roles and feel we need to be driving our businesses forward all the time. But constant productivity actually hurts us in the long run. When we reach the point of burnout, we no longer perform at our best, and it can take weeks (or longer!) to fully recover. Creating space for rest is particularly important when so many of us are working from home and the lines between work and life have become even more blurred. “I have experienced so much benefit in my life, in my health, in my business, by intentionally building in rest, specifically through practicing something that I call cyclical living,” Brandie explains.  She looks to natural and energetic cycles as inspiration for creating a way of life that’s heathier, more productive, and more sustainable. Over the last few years, Brandie has found that cyclical living has improved the way she shows up in her business, as well as her overall satisfaction with her life. Now, it’s your turn! Listen now to discover:‌ ‌ How to develop your own daily, monthly, or seasonal cycles that tap into your body’s energetic needs The importance of setting boundaries during quarantine — and the science behind the benefitsWhy having reality TV on in the background while writing emails doesn’t count as real rest! “What do we emerge from feeling like a new person?”—  Brandie Mitchell About Brandie MitchellBrandie Mitchell, RN, NC-BC is a Board Certified Nurse Coach specializing in holistic, personalized health coaching for women ready to reclaim their health from autoimmune disease, anxiety, depression, pain, insomnia, and fatigue.
