“No ano passado, falei diversas vezes. Portanto, a Mercedes é o tema central do WGP desta quinta-feira.
For a Grand Prix that was well-cooked, Apple's Tim Cook definitely under-cooked the chequered flag at the Circuit of the Americas for the 2022 United States Grand Prix. In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast: Soumil and Kunal review the 10th anniversary edition of the United States Grand Prix - a race that gave us Versappen vs. Leclerc, Verstappen vs. Hamilton, Hamilton vs. Vettel AND Vettel vs. lots of others. And of course, this was the most-Alonso-esque race for Fernando Alonso...who then lost a great result in the typical Alonso fashion. Smartly played by Haas? Tune in! In this #chequeredflag episode, Gordon May speaks to Royal Enfield champion flat track racers, Gary Birwistle and Paul Young. Not since the heady days of the 1950s and 1960s, with Redditch-based trials winners such as Peter Stirland, Peter Gaunt, and Johnny Brittain, or the 1970s and 1980s with multiple Indian Grand Prix winner, Bullet Bose, has Royal Enfield had a successful works entry in any form of motorsport. That changed in dramatic fashion when Royal Enfield went flat track racing in 2020, winning its first race in the USA. That was quickly followed by success in the UK when teammates, Gary Birtwistle and Paul Young, took the chequered flag on their Royal Enfield FT 650 Twins in all five rounds of the 2021 DRTA season, securing both first and second places in the championship. Both riders talk about their challenges and successes, Royal Enfield's flat track program, and their aspirations for the 2022 season. Gary, already the 2019 UK and European UK Hooligan flat track champion, also discusses Royal Enfield slide school days which he runs in conjunction with his business, Dirt Craft, and Paul, a former Grand Prix racer, talks about his role as Royal Enfield's senior development test rider. In this #chequeredflag episode, Gordon May speaks to star American Flat Track racer, Johnny Lewis. He is joined by Adrian Sellers, who heads up Royal Enfield's custom programme. Not since the heady days of the 1950s and 1960s, with Redditch-based trials winners such as Peter Stirland, Peter Gaunt and Johnny Brittain, or the 1970s and 1980s with multiple Indian Grand Prix winner, Bullet Bose, has Royal Enfield had a successful works entry in any form of motorsport. That changed in dramatic fashion on October 17th 2020 when Johnny Lewis won the Progressive American Flat Track Production Twins season finale at Daytona Beach. Based at Centre Hill, Florida, Johnny has enjoyed a long and successful career in motorcycle racing. He recalls his first experiences riding the Royal Enfield FT 650 Twin, the subsequent challenges and the successes, and gives a riveting insight into what makes him such a competitive racer. As well as heading up Royal Enfield's custom programme, Adrian Sellers was instrumental in taking the brand flat track racing. His insights into why and how this happened, along with an account of the FT 650 Twin's development, is fascinating. The #ChequeredFlag podcast series was launched alongside the GT Cup to bring you great stories from the world of Royal Enfield motorsports. In this #chequeredflag episode, Gordon May speaks to an inspiring British family team who have been racing Royal Enfields for 17 years. They are David, Paul, and Ian Henshaw. Ian Henshaw is the rider that has won numerous classic races and set lap records on Royal Enfields. His brother, Paul Henshaw, is a renowned Royal Enfield mechanic and restorer who prepares the bikes for racing. Their father, David Henshaw, is team manager, a role which has earned him the moniker 'Dave the wallet' as he has financed three race bikes and 17 years of campaigning.
In this #chequeredflag episode, Gordon May speaks to renowned motorcycle racer and tuner, Aspi Bhathena. To date, Aspi is the only Indian rider to have successfully completed the Isle of Man TT. Aspi began racing at the age of 17 on a 173cc Crusader then progressed onto an Enfield Mini Bullet 200, winning many races including against larger motorcycles. It was while he rode a Continental GT 650 twin around the Isle of Man circuit with former World Champion, Fast Freddie Spencer, and Eicher CEO, Siddhartha Lal, in 2019 that the Continental GT Cup championship was conceived. Will Lewis Hamilton clinch his 5th World Championship title at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix? Will Donald Trump follow Vladimir Putin’s lead and attend the race at the Circuit of the Americas? Well, what we are more concerned about is Formula 1 not replacing our beloved and iconic chequered flag with a digital version next season. Also in this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we express surprise at how soon before Michael Schumacher and Valentino Rossi’s records in Formula 1 and MotoGP (respectively) could be broken. It seems funny to see Lance Stroll give ‘Formula 1 career advice’ to Mick Schumacher. And of course, at Liberty Media’s home race, we applaud their marketing efforts, but wonder if they are running out of time to implement their changes for 2021. Tune in! Here’s what’s in store for you: 0:00 - 3:00: Donald Trump would prefer HAM winning his fifth title in the USA over Mexico. But of course! 3:00 - 5:00: The average age of the American Formula 1 is 59 years! Yikes! Will Formula 1 run out of time to implement changes for 2021? 5:00 - 8:00: Addition in 2019: rear-wing end-plate lights; will they work as turn indicators? 8:00 - 11:00: MSC and ROS’ records are out to be broken very soon; can Formula 1 rivalries be like they are in the world of boxing? 11:00 - 14:00: Could ALO have won the title for Ferrari in 2018…you think so? 14:00 - 17:00: How is ALO still 7th in the WDC? HOW!? The mid-field battles are really intense. 17:00 - 20:00: Digital Chequered Flag in Formula 1? No, PLEASE, NO! 20:00 - 23:00: We understand why RBR refused VER to test a MotoGP bike; btw, COTA has installed a ‘Verstopper’ & Mithila’s ‘What Wolff Said This Week’ section 23:00 - 26:00: From no seat in 2019, to a seat with Mercedes in 2020…too good to be true? 26:00 till the end: Moments in Time by Lucien, Predictions & Bye-Bye! After breakfast, our day started at the local Wetherspoon's, Samuel Lloyd named after the founder of the local steel works which dominated the town, until Thatcher destroyed the British steel industry in the 80s. The usual issue with under staffing at Wetherspoon’s was exacerbated when the duty manager passed out and an ambulance was called. Worth the wait was the selection of beers from the Grainstore Brewery. www.grainstorebrewery.com/drink/ They stocked GB Best, Rutland Panther, a dark mild and Gold, their light golden summer ale. After the game we met in the Chequered Flag, part of the Greene King Hungry Horse chain. All the cask beer was off, so went for the post-modern classic BrewDog Punk IPA, www.brewdog.com/beer/headliners/punk-ipa whilst dissecting our match and half watching the Liverpool-Brighton game. Train home to Dunstable and off to the Wheatsheaf to see a band. The Lash are a local band that have been going for some years and in various formats and never fail to impress. https://my.lemonrock.com/thelash No cask ale again in the Wheaty, so had to resort to bottled Hobgoblin, the legendary ruby beer from the Wychwood Brewery. www.wychwood.co.uk/beers/ A good time was had by all. On to the Dunstable Derby, an FA Cup replay and more league action.

As the chequered flag waves, here's the last episode of the 2014 Formula One Season from Rishi and Kunal on the Inside Line F1 Podcast. Hear them speak about and wonder if the changes at Ferrari and Mclaren will be sufficient to take the fight to Mercedes in 2015 and more.
