Emily Jane White a sorti sept albums solo. Finally, we reached the end of Season 5. The final show, episode 52 went out live at 19h00 on 29 Dec 2022 on rebel Rock Radio. At the risk of boring you all I just have to say that once again it all happened under really trying circumstances. I hope you all appreciate the lengths I have to go through to get this show out. The Wi-Fi has been non-existent all day, I can't even upload the MCR Rock Review. We have more load shedding in an hour's time and I can't get onto the Rebel Rock Site so I am flying blind. That said this show is a wrap-up of all the albums we checked out this year. Well, not all the albums because we checked out 65 new releases this year. Out of 157 albums added this year 65 were 2022 releases. I did my best to play you as much as possible from these 65. We kicked off with Halestorm and the title track of their release Back From The Dead. From there we had Motor Sister and a track called 'Can't Get Enough'. From there we listened to ‘Take What You Want' off Diamond Star Halos, the latest offering from Def Leppard. We went to Germany and took a listen to Rammstein and to Sinner. Desolation Angels out of the UK (with South African bassist Clive Pearson who used to be in a SA Metal band called Lynx back in the ‘80s) gave us a track called 'Walking On Water' off Burning Black. We also heard from Tony Martin ex Black Sabbath and Joe Lynn Turner ex Rainbow. Both these guys both put out strong albums in the form of Thorns and Belly of the Beast respectively. Five Finger Death Punch and Disturbed both made the cut and sounded awesome. It was time for a bit of Metal from Soulfly and a track called 'Ancestors'. We also heard 'Black Butterfly' from Candlemass. After checking out some late ‘80's early ‘90s style rock from the Dead Daisies, Skid Row, and Aussie youngsters Dead City Ruins we hit the blues with our very own Dan Patlansky whose Shelter of Bones was given the No 2 spot by Blues Rock Magazine. The South African scene was also represented by L.A. Cobra, The Devil's Party Band, Infanteria, and Diverted Disorder. Finally, we got to the top of the list and played out with Ozzy Osbourne, Parkway Drive, The Halo Effect, and Megadeth, and the best album of 2022 according to me went to Arch Enemy with Deceivers. We had a few minutes left so we checked out with scenes from forthcoming attraction in 2023 in the form of Blink 182 and the single they dropped months ago called ‘Edging'. I hope to see you all for 2023 and Season 6 of The Story of Rock and Roll. PS. Notable mentions we just didn't get to Keator, Slipknot, Soilwork, Ghost, and Machine Head, what a year for music. Artists featured: Halestorm, Herman Frank, Motor Sister, Def Leppard, Sinner, Rammstein, Joe Lynn Turner, Nickelback, Desolation Angels, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Eddie Vedder, Billy Idol, Alter Bridge, Tony Martin, Candlemass, Soulfly, The Dead Daisies, Skid Row, Dead City Ruins, Dan Patlansky, L.A. Cobra, Scorpions, Kid Rock, Hell Fire, Infanteria, Sakis Tolis, The Devil's Party Band, Diverted Disorder, Queensrÿche, Ozzy Osbourne, Parkway Drive, The Halo Effect, Megadeth, Arch Enemy The Story of Rock and Roll. This week we invite… No one because I'm too lazy to coordinate any guest, and go track by track into the 12th Studio Album release Diamond Star Halos by Def Leppard. This is the final album review for our Def Leppard series. Diamond Star Halos was released in May 2022 and produced by Def Leppard and Ronan McHugh. Each month in 2022 we will cover a studio album release from the British rockers Def Leppard. Def Leppard is a Top 10 band for Steven and even though that status is built mostly from the first 3 albums in the bands catalog, he agrees there are some gems throughout the bands entire catalog. Episode 46 of Season 5 aired on Rebel Rock radio at 7 pm on 17 Nov 2022. The show started a bit differently for a change. Instead of the usual full-throttle Rock ‘n' Roll we eased in with the classic ‘Judas' version of Bob Dylan's brilliant ‘Like a Rolling Stone'. From there we went with ‘Squealer', one of the early ACDC tracks off Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. It was decided that if you could have a night on the town with one of the dead rock stars then Bon Scott would be a seriously good guy to pick. From there some Black Spiders off Sons of the North and then off to Aussie for a band called Catelano, the track was ‘Saturday Night', cool track, good times. We checked out some Texas Hippie Coalition and a track called ‘Pissed Off and Mad About It' and that morphed into a bit of Chickenfoot. Joe Satriani showed once again just how brilliant he is when he is in a kick-ass band. Def Leppard went down well with a track called 'All We Need' off their latest album Diamond Star Halos. It went a bit soft with Courtney Love and Hole not shouting and smashing things so I fixed that with Zakk Wylde, Buckcherry, Overkill, and Parkway Drive. For a change, we played a track by Ghost called ‘Twenties' and then had three in a row while I had to take care of some work stuff, the joys of running a factory on night shift ☹. The three were from Motörhead, The Dead Daisies, and Sons of Liberty, out of Bristol in the UK nogal. We checked out the new Rebel Rock Jingle kindly recorded by Prawn of Diverted Disorder and then we took a listen to 'Destroyed by Fate' (Feat Jared Gunston) by Diverted Disorder. The Color Blew with Liaan Horton on vocals and Timothy James on guitar kept the SA music flag high with a track called 'O.D'. From there it was four serious rock tracks from Devils Train, Badlands, Iron Allies, and Skid Row. The new Skid Row, The Gang's All Here is so good, its heading for a top ten finish for TSORR best albums of 2022. Last week we missed the Punk section so I fixed it this week with Stiff Little Fingers and The Clash and then we played ‘Ain't It Fun', the classic written by the guys in Rocket From The Tomb but who went off to record it in The Dead Boys and then later the definitive version done by G'n'R, this version is live and right on the edge, if you don't get it, it's not for you as Billy Connelly once said. It was fitting to go to Neil Young with 'Powderfinger' and then Johnathan Martins's amazing cover of Neil's ‘Cortez the Killer'. The wheels came off at the end where I lost the plot and had a mirth attack about Sakis Tolis and we finished loud with My Chemical Romance and Slipknot. Artists featured: Bob Dylan, ACDC, Black Spiders, Catelano, Ratt, Texas Hippie Coalition, Chickenfoot, Def Leppard, Hole, Leslie West Tribute (feat Zakk Wylde), Buckcherry, Overkill, Parkway Drive, Ghost, Thunder, Motörhead, The Dead Daisies, Sons of Liberty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Live, Diverted Disorder, The Color Blew, Devil's Train, Badlands, Iron Allies, Skid Row, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Rocket From the Tombs, Dave Hause, Warren Zevon, Johnathan Martin, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Sakis Tolis, My Chemical Romance, Slipknot. It's great to welcome back our friend & HUGE Def Leppard fan Chris from My Rock n Roll Heaven & @rockthesetweets to our show to discuss seeing his favorite band live for the first time in 4 years. The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard & Motley Crue as alternating co-headliners was announced in 2019 but thanks to COVID, it was delayed until this year. Though Action Jackson caught the show in Florida, which we discussed on UAWIL #84, rain cut everyone's sets short. The pandemic caused the cancellation and postponement of rock shows all over the world for 2 years. Thankfully live music is returning and this week we review a couple of shows that prove it's back in a big way. After taking his family to see the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park for their 202nd London concert (but first without Charlie Watts), The Wold decided to return solo for the 203rd Stones show in town. Action Jackson took his son to The Stadium Tour in Jacksonville, FL which had been delayed 2 years. It was the first time he'd seen Motley Crue and the first time in 30 years he'd seen Def Leppard. In fact, it had been almost 30 years since he'd seen a concert in a stadium so it was a big night for him & Action III.We're so glad to have live music back and to share our experiences with our listeners. We reviewed the first Stones gig in Hyde Park on UAWIL 83 so while we point out the differences in the setlist & experience, we give Action a chance to tell us all about his first stadium show in decades. Andy Fraser was originial member and bassist for the band Free, who were formed in 1968. He was just 15 years old at the time. He wrote the mega-hit "All Right Now" for the band and also "Every Kinda People" that Robert Palmer recorded in 1978. Andy was also briefly in John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers group. Ray White, multi-award winning program director, reached back in CAT's archives to retrieve our interview with Andy from March of 2010, 5-years before his passing, to share insights from his musical career. Andy's last album was titled On Assignment. In our showcase segment we feature two monster bands - Def Leppard whose latest project is Diamond Star Halos and Red Hot Chili Peppers who released Unlimited Love in April of 2022. Tributes and rock's greatest bands - a super mix on the CAT!

Episode 22 nearly didn't happen, it became episode 23 for some reason. It looks like the time travel theme that signals the start of every show moved me ahead a week. Fortunately, I was able to change all the S5E23s to the correct S5E22 before everything got uploaded and created an irreversible hole in time. The show kicked off with The Doors and 'L.A. Woman' and it was like cool running water, Jim Morrison giving us a glimpse once again of what could have been if he was still around today. From a chilled laid back nearly 8 minute intro, we smashed a little Volbeat action and moved through Phil X and The Drills, Skid Row, and something off the new Ghost album Impera. We made a bit of a fuss about Johnny Depp and celebrated his vindication by the courts this week by playing his band Hollywood Vampires and a track called 'Who's Laughing Now'. We washed that down with some Jeff Beck jamming with ZZ Top on 'Rough Boy'. We had Classic Rock came from Black Sabbath, ACDC, and Led Zeppelin, prog type stuff from Threshold and Coheed & Cambria, and Metal from Sepultura, Death Angel, and Opeth. The SA music was well represented by The Devil's Party Band, The Diamond Dogs, and Hellcats. Tom Petty and John Mellencamp mellowed the show out a bit, I tried to revive it with some UK Punk, courtesy of The Stranglers and Stiff Little Fingers but ultimately the show moved back to a chilled ending with a fantastic love song about a guitar off the brand new Def Leppard album Diamond Star Halos. Anyone who has played a guitar their whole life will fully understand the sentiment and the mini solos. The show was dedicated to Athol's son Phoenix who turned 25 and celebrated by listening to The Story of Rock and Roll as one should. Artists featured: The Doors, Volbeat, Phil X and The Drills, Ghost, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Coverdale / Page, Zakk Wylde, Tesla, Threshold, Coheed & Cambria, Mötley Crüe, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Dangerous Toys, Hollywood Vampires, ZZ Top, The Rolling Stones, Suicidal Tendencies, Doom Squad, Opeth, Sepultura, Death Angel, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, The Diamond Dogs, Hellcats, The Devil's Party Band, The Pretty Reckless, Lita Ford, L7, Seether, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, Def Leppard, U2.

Enjoy!
Def Leppard's frontman and co-founder Joe Elliott has a lot to say about his favorite records including Def Lep's 12th album Diamond Star Halos (out now). The Kids In The Hall's Kevin McDonald leaves me a delighfully rambling message about the first record he ever bought, and Amoeba Hollywood's Karen Pearson remembers the legendary Berkeley store, Leopold Records. And RSD's Carrie Colliton talks about the records that give us comfort in troubled times. Go to RecordStoreDay.com for the most up-to-the-moment RSD news. Lead singer of Def Leppard, Joe Elliott, joins Torg & Elliott to talk about the Stadium Tour with Motley Crue, Poison, and Joan Jett, and the May 27 release of their new album, "Diamond Star Halos."
Wow! there's a lot of Talkin' Rock going on today! Joe Elliott is up first to talk about Def Leppard's new album, Diamond Star Halos. That drops on May 27th. He talks about the title, writing it and more. We discuss the Rock hall and he tells me about singing on stage with "Def Leppard Sucks" guy, Kid Rock at a big event years ago. Then, around the 11:00 minute mark, it's Luke Morley from Thunder. They have a new, double album called Dopamine coming out on April 29th. We talk about the album, the political tinge to it and more. Why didn't they become bigger in the U.S.A.? He talks about that, and that's just the beginning. Finally, around the 31:00 minute mark, it's Vinnie from Sponge. They have a pub crawl coming up this Friday. Check the link here for more info. He fills us in on what he has going on in all of his bands, including The Lucid with former Megadeth bass player, David Ellefson. -Meltdown- https://www.defleppard.com/ https://www.thunderonline.com/ http://www.spongetheband.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/
Any day that we get to talk to our friend Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke is a good day! Not only is the band a favorite among us all here on the show, but you would be hard pressed to find a more down to earth and real musician in a business full of people who are full of themselves. And now we find out that they're going to be in the are three times before the end of the year! Aug 18th in Wichita KS, Aug 19th in Camdenton MO…and the at the end of September, they roll in for the annual Firewater Festival in Lacygne KS!! From his childhood and formative years to his love of the real musical outlaws…we covered it all! PLUS… It's a fact that, at one time, Def Leppard was likely the biggest rock band in the entire world. Albums like “High & Dry”, “Pyromania” and “Hysteria” defined hard rock music in the 80s.
