This week on the Today is the Day Changemakers podcast, I interview an incredible fearless woman. Sharla Brown is the inspiring founder of One Woman, a global social enterprise on a mission to help women and girls around the world live their dreams and reach their full potential. A Canadian social entrepreneur, philanthropist, and humanitarian, Sharla has dedicated her life to empowering others through education, skills development, and entrepreneurship. Her journey began in 2015 during a life-changing trip to Ecuador, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by women and girls in underserved communities. This experience became the spark that ignited the creation of One Woman and One Girl — initiatives that provide the tools, support, and opportunities needed to break barriers and create ripples of positive impact.Since then, Sharla has hosted over 200 Women Fearless events across Canada, the USA, and beyond. Through these powerful conferences, she mentors, teaches, and inspires women to embrace their gifts, step into their leadership potential, and build purpose-driven lives they love. Sharla believes that each person's gift is like a pebble tossed into water, creating endless ripples that touch lives far and wide. Her fearless leadership continues to uplift and unite women globally, reminding us all that when women rise, entire communities rise with them.Sharla has been dealing with a personal illness and even through this illness she is doing all she can to keep the organization growing. She empowers woman to take on the role of leading these events in their community. Connecting women around the globe to learn from each other and support each other is not only commendable, it is essential for building a more empowered and compassionate world. In this riveting conversation, we dive deep into how women can rise in the face of fear and uncertainty, navigating life's obstacles with clarity and strength. From her days as a flight attendant to becoming a style blogger and visionary businesswoman, Yo has made it her mission to help women rediscover their voices through personal style. She doesn't just create fashion transformations; she reignites the fire within women. In her words, “What I love is taking that woman who's lost herself, forgotten herself, became invisible—and making her unforgettable.” Yolanda's journey is not just about style; it's about self-empowerment, resilience and finding the courage to be unapologetically you.Tune in to this transformative episode and prepare to soar as we explore how fearless faith fuels fearless women. This is more than a conversation—it's a call to action for every woman ready to reclaim her power and rise. Don't miss it!
This month we've been covering stories about fearless leadership and perhaps like you have been intrigued by the political landscape this month and seeing Kamala Harris emerge as what one can only describe as fearless. So I dug in and found some sources that can help us elements of her leadership that we've been covering on the show. Topics Covered: Early inspirations Competition Determination Resilience Networking Empathy Here are three takeaways from the episode: 1. Kamala Harris is breaking the mold for women when it comes to leadership. Her early foundation (mother-inspired, Berkeley in the 60s) set her on a course to be an advocate, empathy, and insights into politics. 2. Kamala has designed her own way (blended family, Presidential run in 2020) and is an example of learning from failure and demonstrating resilience. 3. One of Kamala's greatest strengths are her people skills: networking, building influence and creating alliances. Welcome to Resilient Woman Friday! In this poem, the speaker describes her experience buying a rose from a woman in need and placing it in a vase on her dresser. She then felt inspired to add tulips to the arrangement, but in doing so, the roses eventually withered away. The speaker questions whether she was too focused on helping others and neglecting her own needs. The poem is a commentary on the dangers of giving too much to others at the expense of one's own well-being. It serves as a reminder for women to take care of themselves and to be mindful of the balance between giving and receiving. Tune in to learn more! Dear Family and Friends,We continue our series on the book of Judges this Sunday, looking at the powerful story of Deborah, a remarkable leader God raised up who was not just a judge, but a prophet and a woman. Way back around 1200 BC, God was sending a powerful message when He chose a woman to serve in a position of national leadership. We'll meet a colorful cast of characters – Deborah, Barak, Sisera, Jael, and Heber. What can we learn from them? What does the Bible teach us about God and women? How does God view the abuse of women? What kind of people does God use to accomplish His purposes? We will answer these questions and more as we discover God's vision for the kind of kingdom He wants to build on earth. I am dedicating this weekend's message to all the women in our community. Men, bring your wives, sisters, daughters and friends as we listen and learn from the lives of two remarkable women in Judges 4 & 5.
Purse Strings founder Barbara Provost explains how the finance sector continues to fail women and shares what she's doing to change that. Even though women are responsible for more than $23 trillion in annual household spending and will inherent $30 trillion in the next 7-10 years, the financial industry continues to overlook and underserve them. Dr. Barbara Provost grew tired of seeing this same problem affecting the women around her and shape her work as a financial educator. So, she took action. In this episode, Barbara shares the inspiration behind her company, Purse Strings. She and AdaPia discuss how women can build a strong financial foundation for themselves and their communities, the different messages that men and women receive about money and power, and how these messages can lead to shame and fear - until we examine them, and choose more empowering ones. Dr. Barbara Provost is the founder of Purse Strings, a business development service introducing women who seek financial advice to service providers who understand their unique needs. The company also offers a breadth of free educational resources designed to help every woman, regardless of her financial situation. One is her unique LifeStyle Statement sessions, in which women uncover their personal themes which are distilled into a one-of-a-kind Statement which can then be taken to every area of their life from wardrobe to relationships to their business to their career and their home. The other are her “pressure relief” mini-intensives where the focus is on moving closer to your vision through exploring and tackling personal and marketing issues which are keeping you stuck, whether clarifying your website's message to your clients, looking at how you spend your time and money, decluttering (mental and physical), dressing as who you want to be, assessing the first impression your media and home office make on your ideal clients and creating action plans to get you the life you want. When she's not doing this, she's interviewing women entrepreneurs on her podcast Conversations About Closets With My Closet 1000 Friends, about what they do, why and what they love about it, with one or two questions in there about clothing (there's that passion for fashion!). For some people, loving relationships seem impossible. Our culture has given us many lies about love and intimacy, like the idea that we should be able to find our soulmate or that true love is easy. Unfortunately, many of us also suffer from complex PTSD due to relational trauma and have not seen or been a part of a healthy, secure relationship. So, has your past trauma made you incapable of having a healthy relationship? What if you've been abused so severely in childhood or adolescence or adulthood that you wonder if you can trust other people again? In this podcast episode (final one for Season 4), Ameé speaks with Dr. Frank Anderson, a psychiatrist and brain-based psychotherapist about an innovative way to work with complex PTSD from abuse called Internal Family Systems. This therapy helps heal relational trauma by addressing the parts of yourself who have been hurt and haven't healed yet. By identifying these parts and listening to their stories, they can begin to let go of old wounds and learn new ways of being in relationships without re-experiencing past traumas.Resources:https://www.frankandersonmd.com/https://catalog.pesi.com/item/transcending-trauma-preorder-80361Amazon Link: Transcending Trauma: Healing Complex PTSD with Internal Family SystemsLinks to buy The Fearless Woman's Guide to Starting a BusinessAmazon (Audio, Print, Kindle Versions): https://amzn.to/3daO7nABarnes and Noble- https://bit.ly/FearlessWomansGuideBookshop- https://bit.ly/FearlessWomanBookshopVisit https://www.ameequiriconi.com/ for more articles about self-help, healing from trauma, leadership, business, and more!
Are you a boundary violator? If we are not aware of our own boundaries and how we violate them, then it's very easy to be unaware that we're violating other people's boundaries. We may think that what we're doing is helpful or even beneficial for the person whose boundary has been violated but in reality, it can cause more harm than good. In this episode, Ameé talks with professional coach Audrey Holst about raising our self-awareness around whether we unintentionally and regularly violate other people's personal boundaries. Do we do things because we think we know better? Do we invalidate other people's decisions because we don't understand them? Are we really trying to help others or are still just trying to take away our own discomfort? And if so, why do these things matter anyway - especially when someone else doesn't seem bothered by whatever it is that you've done! Businesses can be effective, profitable, AND feminist–all at the same time. It's true! But the great majority of our business development tools (as they exist now) reinforce masculine models of thinking and patriarchal operating by design. If you want to smash the patriarchy and, instead, opt-in to feminist business practices, this episode is for you! Building a business, as a feminist, means that you get to create your own economic destiny built on principles that you think are fair, humanistic, and sustainable. Some examples include*: Build and grow a business based on your personal and political values Wholeheartedly believe in community over competition and strive to lift others while you climb Understand that you are not your business and it does NOT define your worth Honor your intuition and refer to it as your most trusted business advisor Create your own definition of success that isn't tied to productivity or the number of zeros in your income, it's instead based on your happiness and life goals (*These examples all come from The Feminist Agenda by Rachel Wynn) Are you ready to smash the patriarchy with us?! Our incredible panel today includes: 1) Through her work in the fields of psychology and self-improvement, Amée Quiriconi brings a thought-provoking harmony of practical strategies together with the underlying drives that affect women and their business success. Her second book, The Fearless Woman's Guide to Starting a Business: What Every Woman Needs to Know to be a Courageous, Authentic, and Unstoppable Entrepreneur, is her firm step forward towards helping other women learn how to unlock their real, life-changing potential. 2) Melanie Childers is a Master Coach for feminist entrepreneurs who are committed to changing the world for women. She helps women disrupt their internalized patriarchy so they can scale successful businesses that support themselves and their communities without burning out. 3) Rachel Wynn is a multi-passionate creative entrepreneur and founder of both Starlight Social, a digital marketing company, and Feminist Founder, where she coaches feminist entrepreneurs on the topics of setting and maintaining client boundaries, the importance of delegation, invisible labor in the home, and much more! She currently lives in a co-op near Malcolm X Park with her partner, David, and dog-child Rufus on unceded Piscataway native land in Washington, DC. What you'll learn in this episode: What the word feminist means in 2021 The difference between emotional labor and invisible labor, and how this impacts women How to ensure the division of household labor is equitable between you and your partner Why rest is an act of defiance against the patriarchy How conscious capitalism and feminism can co-exist Practical tips on how to build a team in an equitable, inclusive way Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. The Fearless Woman: How to Recover + Rebuild after a Divorce or Breakup
Hello my Fearless Woman! Dating after Divorce is scary! But here is a big aha moment - if you don't do the work on yourself and think that the problem is all on the guy, then you are missing out on a huge piece of the puzzle - which is YOU! How do I know this? Simple: 2nd marriages end up in a divorce rate of 75%! That is insane. It's bad enough with first marriages at 50% rate - now it goes up by 50% on 2nd marriages? WHY? Easy answer - you as the woman think the issue is the guy. NOPE - the issue is YOU. That's the cold hard truth. And I speak truth as my goal is for you to be a Fearless Woman and not pretend anymore but rather own up to you. See when we are the same, then you better believe we will attract the same type of man. But when we change.... you won't believe the magic that happens!
