As we continue to harp on China for producing less than promising economic data, we also need to observe some promising economic data here in the U.S. With CPI coming in at below 4%, the idea of a soft landing achieved is certainly not off the table. Granted, the idea of a looming rolling recession still hovers over this economic environment, but there's certainly less reason to be scared. However, across the Pacific; the narrative drastically different. China's economic numbers seem far less than promising which could result in a disruption in the supply chain. How you ask? What happens when two float center owners get a little antsy during a global pandemic that shuts down their centers? They launch a new business together, of course! In this episode, Ryan Duey of Capitol Floats and Michael Garrett of Reboot share the story of how they came up with the idea to launch their own manufacturing business for cold plunge tubs - Cold Plunge. There are many parallels between floating and plunging, primarily focused on the breath and the awareness of the present moment, so it was a natural expansion of their vision, talents, and offerings. They'll answer questions about why you probably can't really “plunge in your tub at home for free”, how to begin and maintain a cold plunge practice, and why cold therapy is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds. They also give a little insight into what it was like to appear on Shark Tank to pitch their business and share updates with us for the first time publicly! Deciduous are back just in time for festival season, releasing their latest remix, a complete reconstruction of the Hot Since 82 track ‘Buggin', which is available as a free download. Paulo and Ryan, the two components of the Deciduous project spoke to Four Four contributor Dylan Moore about their process in the remix, inspiration behind it and their plans for the summer. Having the stems to work with allowed the duo to completely rework a tune they both loved: “We've always been fans of the original track and played it a lot in 2018. It was an interesting process to try take a track, which we hold in such high regard and put our own spin on it.” Deciduous are one of the small number of Irish producers working in the melodic and progressive house/techno genre. With such a small community of artists in Ireland the success has been fantastic, getting support from international producers. "We chopped nearly all the stems and added a bit of our own touch with piano and brass synths to rearrange the track into a more chilled out melodic vibe. We have had support on the track from a number of artists - Adriatique, Fideles, Massano to name a few,” Paulo explained. When asked what they have been up to in the lead up to this release, Ryan described that they have been focusing solely on productions instead of gigs. “This has led us to have a pretty exciting release schedule for the summer/autumn months with releases coming on Future Romance (vinyl) and Ampers&, OC&Verde's new imprint which is one we targeted earlier this year,” he described. They will be making their first appearance of the summer next week at Life Fest which they are no strangers to, having played the District 8 stage previously. In June, they will be appearing in the Cellar in Dublin, and they are hoping to secure their first international show at the end of the summer. Keep your eyes peeled for more releases over the summer, but until then, enjoy their Floatation Mix of the Hot Since 82 track, ‘Buggin', which the lads have kindly given to us as a free download. It's hard to overstate the influence that Richard Norris has had on the music industry over the past 40 years. In his youth in St Albans, Richard got involved in the experimental and creative punk rock scene, forming the Innocent Vicars, creating a DIY fanzine called 99%, working as a label manager for Bam Caruso and writing for Strange Things and the NME. Following a, let's say, "educational" collaboration with Genesis P. Orridge, Richard formed The Grid with Dave Ball (from Soft Cell) in 1988 and released their debut single, the Balearic-inspired Floatation in 1990. It was their 1994 single, Swamp Thing with the inspired banjo reel that catapulted the band to commercial success. Richard has been at the front of the ever-evolving electronic scene, from the early days of Shoom and The Clink, to covering the emergence of Amnesia in Ibiza, to releasing his own house, acid house, ambient, meditative, drone and psychedelic tracks. He's worked with Joe Strummer, has run record labels, DJ'd, wrote Paul Oakenfold's official biography and remixed and produced artists like Armand van Helden, Soft Cell, Saint Etienne, Cornershop, Billie Ray Martin, Shakespeare's Sister and has collaborated on the experimental project Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve with Erol Alkan. The list is almost endless!Recently, he has been doing his own thing - releasing a series of totally hypnotic, ambient, healing experiences, raising money for MIND. And latterly he released Hypnotic Response, a more psychedelic, experimental set of tracks. There's more exciting stuff in the works….take a listen to the wonderful mindset of one of music's legends.I Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is a music podcast that does music interviews differently. Interview with floatation tank inventor Glenn Perry with a meditation on floating in water to reduce stress. Floatation tanks are the ideal portal to rejuvenation for everyone from pro athletes and celebrities to stressed-out entrepreneurs and creative artists seeking a distraction-free environment for deep meditation, relaxation and self-discovery. In their new book, “Floating in Quiet Darkness: How the Floatation Tank Has Changed Our Lives and Is Changing the World,” floatation tank pioneers Glenn and Lee Perry explain why. Glenn and Lee created the first commercially available floatation tanks in 1972; ever since, they have been perfecting them with their Samadhi Tank Company and spreading the word on the benefits of floating. The floatation tank, also known as the isolation tank, was invented in the 1950s as part of science experiments probing the frontiers of human consciousness. Today the tank offers myriad benefits for our over-stimulated, distracted, and stressed-out society, Glenn designed the first commercial isolation tank based upon specifications given by his mentor, Dr. John Lilly. When we were kids, we always thought that a timeout was like punishment. But as adults, we realize that the timeout is a reward. In fact, it's necessary for our health development, especially for us sensitive people. In this week's episode of Someone Gets Me, we are joined by Mark Anderson to share the fantastic benefits of floatation therapy (aka sensory deprivation) and the power of taking a break in a meaningful way.  Key Points You Need to Know: ✨ Floatation therapy is a widely accepted form of alternative treatment for various conditions, ailments and generally improving overall well-being.  ✨ Float tanks have been around since the 1950s showing beneficial healing experiences for physical and mental health. But historically, floating on top of still salt water has been around for thousands of years. ✨ Floating occurs in a salt water tub with 1000 pounds of Epsom salt in just 200 gallons of water. As the water gets dense with salt, a person achieves perfect alignment under zero-gravity conditions. With the water at the same temperature as the skin, this removes the sense of touch.  ✨ The homeostasis of the minerals is friendly and nourishes the body that a regular tub or shower won't do. Magnesium in the water that gets absorbed into the skin addresses magnesium deficiency, which causes heart problems, muscle spasms, constipation, and all kinds of stuff.  ✨ This sensory deprivation treatment wrapped with the spa experience takes the scare out of it, so people can get comfortable and feel safe in a restricted environment.  ✨ Coming from a military background, Mark saw how Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) had taken a hard toll on the lives of servicemen and women and their families. Ever since he tried his first session ten years ago -- Mark dreamt of reaching many people to experience these life-changing benefits.  ✨ "So we're putting you in a very womb-like state. As you 'float,' it is pretty amazing what can happen cognitively with the world removed. It's just you, your breath, and peace." – Mark Anderson  Connect with Mark Anderson Mark Anderson owns St. Pete Salt Works, the flagship float center for St. Petersburg, Florida. In this episode, I interview Vivian McKinnon, the Founder and Managing Director of Hydro-Ease, Northern Ireland's only dedicated floatation centre. She is also the founder of Wellness Consultant and the regional coordinator for SMART Recovery UK. Vivian is committed to reducing the impacts of trauma and related symptoms using the latest approaches in neuroscience in unison with floatation therapy, developing Reconnection and Floatation Therapy (RAFT) her own unique approach to healing. An inspirational and creative therapeutic practitioner, an authentic and engaging trainer and international Public Speaker Vivian firmly believes RAFT is the perfect antidote to our modern frenetic world. Having almost three decades of lived experience of adverse childhood experiences, trauma and addiction she was introduced to floatation for the first time in 2004. After having a very profound and enlightening experience she was keen to understand what had taken place.  When the owner/operator of the float center could not provide the answers she sought she decided to find out for herself, this saw her returning to education and training alongside some of the most fascinating minds in the world of the modalities she has studied. Working with leaders to vulnerable and disengaged young people throughout the Charity and Voluntary, Public and Private sectors across Scotland and Northern Ireland. In 2004, she came across floatation when she was in recovery from trauma, addiction, and seriously compromised mental health going back to her childhood experiences. When she moved to Northern Ireland she realized there was no floatation center and so decided to open one in September 2015 and within the first six months their turnover was £24,500. In 2016, their annual turnover was £60,000 which more than doubled to £126,000 in 2020. She started out as the sole full-time employee and currently has 6. Vivian feels the hardest thing in growing a small business is keeping in the present, and says that the one thing she would tell herself on day one of starting out in business is, “You’ve got this. Get in there and smash it, girl!” Get ready for some small business ownership inspiration. Enjoy! This Cast Covers: Offering trauma recovery for 40% of people in Northern Ireland who live with the impact of trauma from the legacy of past troubles. Combining 25 centimeters of body temperature water and half a tonne of Epsom salt to help people recover from trauma. Her history with trauma and how she transitioned from the charity and voluntary sector to start Hydro-Ease.  The lifestyle changes that have over time caused increased trauma in our bodies. £0 to £24,500 in the first 6 months and doubling it to £60,000 in annual year: Hydro-Ease’s growth trajectory. Growing from being recognized as a commissioned service by the Department for Health and the Health and Social Board. Moment of success: Standing on stage at the 16th Annual Mental Conference and giving a lecture on mental health. Thriving in marketing by understanding your audience, finding out where they are and using that to target them. Combining her savings and some personal debt to fund the business. How managing the fast growth of the business challenged her. Working with anyone she wants and knowing that she doesn’t have to do everything in her business. Vivian’s core hiring tip for small business owners: The person who does best in an interview isn’t always the best person for the job. Continuous engagement with employees and embracing their ideas for the business. Why every small business owner should work on their mindset to grow their business. Still Water Floatation is a deprivation float tank center offering 4 float rooms, each a different style.  The float rooms include one single and couples float or ADA (handicap accessible) room and two pods.  When you float you are in 12 inches of water with over 1000 lbs of Epsom salt.  You, the water, and the room are relatively the same temperature so when you get still you can't tell where you end and the water begins.  While deprivation floating is intended to be done in complete darkness and silence, they understand that not everyone is ready to do that immediately so you can control the environment in your room including music and star lights. Mission & PurposeDavid Landes (Co-owner) and Tabitha Cain both come from entrepreneurial backgrounds and wanted to find a way to give back to their community.  They feel that floating has many benefits for a wide variety of people.  This includes anyone with muscle or joint ailments, PTSD, anxiety, or depression. It's a great way to unplug, unwind for pregnant women, in addition to a beautiful way to find relief from the discomforts of pregnancy and to even connect to their unborn child.  In order for this to be more accessible to the community, they often run pay-what-you-can weekends, do pay-it-forward events, and give gift cards to different groups in their community who give to others like nurses, teachers, and law enforcement.Location1309 3rd Street SW, Roanoke VA  24016Contact Information:contactus@stillwaterfloatation.comwww.stillwaterfloatation.com540-524-2101Welcome to the Divine Feminine Warrior Podcast. Floatation therapy is the practice of lying back in one of our world-leading floatation tanks and experiencing a blissful, healing state. How floating works:The water in each pod contains half a tonne of Epsom salt, allowing you to float effortlessly. It matches the temperature of your skin and the air, giving you the feeling of complete weightlessness. It’s usually pitch black and silent in the pod too, unless you wish to have relaxing music, or the light on.Free from sensory input, the muscular-skeletal system and sympathetic nervous system wind down into a state of deep relaxation and serenity, in which your body and mind can heal and replenish - resulting in many benefits, like reduced stress and better sleep.A float lasts for 1 hour, with 10 minutes of ambient music at the beginning to help you relax – or longer if you request it. You have full control of opening and closing the pod, and of the light inside it. Music starts again to signal 5 minutes before the end of your float.Chris is the co-founder of the new Floatworks based in London. He’s a trained Breathwork practioner. We are back at it again, folks.  We are here to discuss another curse!  We know that everyone loves a good curse story, and when you can involve a tale of lost love and combine it with a vengeful murder ghost, it gets even better. This week, we look into the Curse of Lake Ronkonkoma.  What causes these drownings?  Is it bad luck? Chance? The ghost of a sad native girl seeking her lost love? If it’s the ghost option, then what’s up with the weirdness described in old Native legends in the area that seem to predate the story of Princess Ronkonkoma? No matter what the cause, The What Cast will be hosting a post-COVID beach party on the shore of Lake Ronkonkoma.  Floatation devices will be optional!   Peep Doc's flapjacks.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhkRpyRn6xM

Kids can be unruly and get on any parent’s nerves sometimes. But that doesn’t mean we can lash out at them anytime. Your screaming won’t cut it if you want them to really learn so they won’t do it again in the future. In this episode of the Fire In The Belly Podcast, Pete talks to Vivian McKinnon, a Floatation & Trauma Specialist, a public speaker, and a coach, about how she helps her clients by sharing her personal stories (including recovery from traumas). No one should be ever told that they are less than enough. Kids deserve to be given hope and should not be pressured. Let them discover themselves and dream. Tune in to know more about mental health and more today. KEY TAKEAWAYS              Vivian grew up in a not so perfect family. Though very supportive of her activities when she was a child, her parents fought a lot. She never felt she was greatly loved. In fact, she felt rejected throughout her childhood; always trying to do whatever she could to be accepted. This affected her mental health, which manifested physically too. Despite her past strained relationships—not just with her family, but also with her previous partners)—Vivian was still able to live the life she wanted to live. She strived harder to attain some stability, financially and mentally. As a Wellness Consultant, she and her team have equipped themselves with enough knowledge, resources, strategies, models and tools to help her clients. Vivian also believes her own personal story and her killset can make people embrace themselves truly and be strong during tough times. No person is broken. Most of the people who think this way have no one around them who support them, boost their moral, or make things clear for them. It’s important that we are reassured during our formative years that we deserve great (and much greater) things. Don’t put too much pressure on the kids. Also, give them hope. BEST MOMENTS “You look back and there’s always somebody in your life that you know was never meant to be there, but is.” “Go for the things you want and act like you already have them.” “Vulnerability is a place where you can grow and develop more.” “I love myself. I accept myself for who I am. I make pretty good decisions. I am a pretty decent mum.” “I am who I am because of the experience that I have.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Listen to Fire In The Belly Podcast in Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061)! Megan Sproats launched Cocoon Floatation 5 years ago, renting a local house out for business, purchasing some second hand tanks and slowly building connections with the small number of clients who were curious enough to try out this what at the time was an usual form of therapy.A float tank, also known as a sensory deprivation tank, holds 10 inches of water and up to 350 kilograms of Epsom salts. Due to the high concentrate of salt, you instantly float which gives the feeling of weightlessness. There are a large number of physical and mental benefits of using a float tank, plus it is a really awesome experience.Over the years, Megan has gradually built her business and shared her personality and passion with as many people as possible. In the last two years, the business has now been running out of a central site in the heart of Wollongong which has added increased visibility and allowed the business to hit that next level of professionalism.Megan shared that first moment where she decided to pursue a life a purpose and create her own business, the growing pains along the way, the transition their current site and also where Megan plans to take the business into the future. What did you get out of this episode? Here’s what I learnt;1. Small wins can mean success - Megan reflected on that first day opening the new location in Wollongong where she was able to walk 10 minutes to work for the first time ever. While it might be a small thing for others, for Megan this was a real moment that confirmed the hard work which she had put in was paying off. Always search for those small wins along the way. There are many things we often glaze over which are actually the reasons why we take the path of self employment. Celebrate all wins and use them to define your own unique version of success.2. Share the progress. Good for your audience, good for you - During the time when the new location was being built, Megan took her clients and wider community on a journey through the building of the new site. I personally remember following Megan and her circle of friends working day in day out to make a dream become a reality. When people can follow your journey, the can also celebrate your success with you. This can obviously help cultivate loyalty to you and your business but it is always good to bring others along for the ride to give you the boost you deserve.3. Be liberated to blend your personality with your business - Megan is fantastic at social media and is able to blend her business operation with her own day to day life, passions and her unique story. For those who work for an employer, we can be hesitant to share or display our true passions and personality in fear that it might clash with the public image of the employer. This is one of the rewarding aspects of becoming self employed and creating something of your own. You are able to introduce yourself personally to your clients and wider audience with an unashamed and celebrated approach.4. Business to business opportunities - Megan's business is all about servicing the end customer however in recent times there has been an awareness of other businesses referring their clients to Cocoon for therapy treatment. The possibilities of creating additional lines of business in a B to B environment are plentiful. Referral program? Corporate benefit program? A point of difference for an employer looking to add value to their staff in the line of health and well being? The cogs are turning!5. Feeling clouded in your own self employment journey? Maybe a float will help! - It's all about taking a step back to re-calibrate, gather your thoughts, work through your worries or dream about those next big goals. Whether it be a walk through a peaceful area, some form of meditation or even a float tank, we all need that momentary break to mitigate those feelings of being overwhelmed. You are your most important asset, so take care of you!Follow Cocoon Floatation via Main Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter |Learn more - What is floating? Why float?New to floating? Andy Zaremba is the founder of FloatHouse in Vancouver, British Columbia. He straddles the line between entrepreneur, podcaster, and insight seeker. There is one common thread that weaves its way through all of his work, and that is human development. In this episode Andy and I talk about the premature birth of his daughter and how that served as a catalyst for him to journey down a path of self-exploration. We also discuss his growing business, and we go deep into the world of flotation tanks and the many benefits of sensory reduction. If you're not familiar with the concept of floating and sensory reduction, hold on for a super interesting conversation. I've been fascinated by the science behind floating for a couple of years, and this conversation really brings together the history, the research and the many benefits that we all can realize from floating. As you'll learn, the process of simply enveloping ourselves in a controlled environment allows us to minimize sensory information from all channels, to experience simply being. While there's definitely meditative components at play here, the outcomes, as Andy describes, are quite remarkable from a physiological as well as a psychological perspective. www.thebravestlife.com/045 www.imgreaterthan.com www.floathouse.ca

About Jesse, his partners and this amazing therapy for busy lives and minds: Many people fall in love with floating after just one experience in the tank – we’re no exception to that rule. We first floated in 2011 and have spent the last 2 years or so trying to figure out how we could introduce this powerful experience to more people. At first it was a weekly stroll through the forest, dreaming up the perfect float centre and strategizing as to what that manifestation would look like. Two years later, we are opening one of the largest float centres on the east coast here in Toronto. Our motivation to create this centre stems from our belief that floating, as a practice, can provide benefits to the majority of people who decide to lie down in a float tank. Floatation is amazingly simple, very powerful and extremely versatile. People are drawn to floating to find relief from physical discomfort and stress, encourage personal development, or simply for some peace and tranquility. Inevit

Okay, this one has some backstory. Two years ago, Megan from Cocoon Floatation in Figtree contacted me after listening to this podcast and asked me if I would like to try out floating and podcasting about it. I think when I originally got the emails from her I thought she wanted me to podcast from inside the tank.. Yeah I know, a ridiculous notion, and how I came to that conclusion, I don't know. Well I do know; I'm me and interpret things "creatively" sometimes.. Yeah, that's a nice way of putting it. I guess actually podcasting from inside the tank is not entirely impossible, but after doing it I realise it would be probably counter productive to what you're meant to get from floating.  Anyway, I flaked for a long time. At the time I hadn't recorded the podcast for a while, a few months at least, and I'd convinced myself that I may have been done with podcasting, I was finding it hard to put myself out there, and the thought of going to this place and doing something like floating in salt water in a dark (albeit very spacious) tank and then talking about it freaked me out. Well, fast forward two years and I finally took the plunge for the first time in January, and I've been back another two times afterwards. This episode is me talking with Megan for about ten minutes after my second float, and then the remainder is Megan, myself and my sister talking post float after my third time. Why is it structured that way you ask? The simple answer is sometimes, I can't grasp the simple basic operation of this audio recorder that I've owned and been using for four years now. If you listen, I'm sure I'll over explain it even more. But hey, it was a great time every time I've been, and it's one of those things worth trying. For me personally, I think I get something different every time. I'm looking forward to float four. Thank-you so much to Megan and Cocoon for having my sister and myself over there, and for being so patient considering the procrastinating I carried on with in terms of actually getting there, and the technical difficulties that ensued once I finally did get my shit together. At the end of the day we got it done and I feel pretty chuffed with the finished product.

If you're a fan of heavy music and you somehow haven't heard of them over the course of the last 15 or so years, I don't even know what to say.  If you're not so much into the metal, fear not, for this man is likely the opposite of what comes to mind when you imagine a guy with millions of head bangs under his belt. He's a voracious reader, a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, a yogi, a psychonaut, a student of many philosophies, and a bunch of other things I can guarantee he'd never be comfortable calling himself.  Liam and I spent very little time hovering around the surface in this conversation. In fact, I think Liam might have been a little bit excited to be on a show that welcomes fare beyond his bass rig.
