Would you describe yourself as someone who could use some healing given what you've inherited from the generations who've gone before you? Do your parents or grandparents have some unresolved trauma that you're carrying? This summer has been impactful for my family in that my cute dad recently passed away. My dad is really my biological uncle who adopted me when my mom passed away at a young age. Many of you have asked questions about my past, I'm sharing it here. I'm so excited to dive into today's episode all about what it means to take the good from your previous generations, and manage the challenges that come with it, even when it's messy. Honoring your father and mother can be a beautiful thing, but it can also be really difficult if there's generational trauma and the previous generations haven't done the work of healing. In this episode, I share some of my personal story with trauma to help you gain perspective of how generational healing works. You'll learn how to identify the post traumatic growth you've gained along the way, the difference between PTSD, and Complex PTSD, and leverage your childhood as a strength. If you've ever struggled with wanting to build a better legacy for your family you are creating versus the one you inherited, this episode will give you perspective to navigate those situations with more intention. What You'll Learn on this Episode: Why generational healing is useful but can be difficult to do on your own without the right kind of support. How to reframe trauma and see where you've experienced Post Traumatic Growth. The importance of understanding the difference between PTDS, and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Why building on the good you've inherited is important and how to identify your generational strengths. If you worry about how to help your kids navigate today's world and you're wondering how to help them, you're in luck. My Free Guide for Parenting Teens is my go-to resource, where you'll learn tools and strategies applicable to children at any age, and you can click here to download.
We hope you like feeling good, because this episode will hug you all the way to Inspiration Town (*TM...no it's not). Brendan talks with the magical Kristin Rivas, Rapid Resolution Therapist (his RRT therapist), TEDx speaker, and trained hynotherapist. The two dive into: Kristin's amazing recovery story after years of struggling with PTSD-like symptoms and seizures after the tragic death of her sister. What makes RRT so incrediblly powerful that you might only need ONE SESSION. The mind-blowing power of the saying, "It doesn't exist," in regards to your past. Why you ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS or YOUR BODY (unless you're hot, then you can be your body). And a surprising new meditation for kids that just tells then to shut up a bunch. I want to share a story with you. On October 27, 2023 Pastor Larry Saunders walked into my office. He was really excited because of what God had just done for him. He was lit up for Jesus. He desired to share his story with as many people as possible. So, I invited him to record a podcast / Radio program with he called "Being Thankful." He came in on October 27, 2023 and recorded his testimony. After the recording the SCC team went to lunch with him at Culver's. Then, seven days later, on November 4, 2023, he passed away suddenly from a heart attack. His family has given me permission to share his story and last request with you. He want all of you to hear his testimony.

Guest: Kevin Peterson Founder Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Trauma is the center piece of mental health. Trauma is divided into two categories. Big T is war, assault, murder, the big stuff. Little T would be getting yelled at, grief and loss, not having a stable up bringing, it's the cumulation of stuff over time and how you learn to respond to them. There is a direct link from the number of trauma incidents a person experiences to chronic health issues, mental health problems, and even substance issues to name a few. PTSD is a series of behaviors surrounding traumatic events over a period of time. This is from people who have been into work, domestic relationships are examples of PTDS, it would fall in the big T. People need to realize that the trauma is not your fault. https://www.chronichope.us/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Read more hereRead the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgIn this episode, I discuss Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), which is also commonly known as “ecstasy” or “molly,” including how it works in the brain to cause short- and long- term-shifts in emotional processing and its clinical applications for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol and other substance-use addictions. I discuss the neuronal mechanisms for how MDMA elevates mood, empathy, motivation, social engagement, and empathy, and reduces “threat detection” and how these effects can synergistically support talk therapy. I also explain the ongoing debate about the potential neurotoxicity of MDMA, myths about the origins and treatments for post-MDMA “crash,” the evolving legal landscape around MDMA use for clinical purposes, and I caution recreational users about the extremely dangerous additives (e.g., fentanyl) now commonly found in black market MDMA. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.10.24.513441v1?rss=1 Authors: Hwang, S.-H., Park, D., Paeng, S., Lee, S.-H., Kim, H. F. Abstract: Primates actively touch objects with their hands to collect information. In investigations of the tactile information processes, participants should experience tactile stimuli through active touch while brain activities are monitored. Here, we developed a pneumatic tactile stimulus delivery system (pTDS) that delivers various tactile stimuli on a programmed schedule and allows tactile perception through voluntary finger touches during MRI scanning. A pneumatic actuator moved tactile blocks and placed one in a finger hole. The time when an index finger touched a tactile stimulus was detected with a photosensor, allowing analysis of the touch-elicited brain responses. The brain responses were examined while the participants actively touched braille objects presented by the pTDS. BOLD responses during tactile perception were significantly stronger in a finger touch area of the contralateral somatosensory cortex compared with that of visual perception. This pTDS enables MR study of brain mechanisms for tactile processes through natural finger touch. Copy rights belong to original authors. This episode was meant to be about PTSD for a couple after the traumatic birth of their child. However, there were so many factors involved into why the condition arose, that I decided to leave it all in so that you can hear their full story and maybe understand how their mental health was affected. Huge thanks to Jenni and Jon for baring all in this episode. Next week will be about the PTSD, but i would recommend you listen to this full episode so that you can understand where they come from.

Today we have JM Lander. An elite athlete who, starting at the age of 15, was sexually abused by a secret society of powerful men. His astonishing and disturbing story is almost beyond comprehension. JM's composed and courageous manner is in stark contrast to the obscene amount of vulgarity I spewed, out of shock and raw anger, at the inhumanity to which he was subjected. John-Michael Lander is creating a voice. Through writing, speaking, and consulting, he helps individuals and organizations identify the signs of grooming, manipulating, and stigmatizing of sexual abuse and how to help survivors (of any type of abuse) face the past and find their true self. John-Michael battled with finding his true self and authentic voice. As an elite athlete, he endured sexual abuse from coaches, benefactors, and medical team which resulted in years of PTDS, depression, anxiety, and even suicide attempts. Today, John-Michael is passionate about helping people face the past and find their true self; educate parents, guardians, coaches, teachers, and officials how to spot and recognize the signs of abuse. He has found this passion also as an Independent Consultant for Arbonne International, a health and wellness company. John-Michael competed in international Springboard and Platform diving competitions. His entertainment experiences include performing on television on General Hospital, All My Children, and national commercials; the lead in the independent films All the Rage and Pilgrim; andoriginating many roles on New York stages. He taught high school English for seven years at the nationally recognized Stivers High School of the Arts in Dayton, Ohio. John-Michael publishing portfolio includes the following books: Surface Tension (2017), Spandau Ballet (2018), and Life's a Beach (2018). John-Michael presented the speech “An Athlete's Silence” at the TEDxDayton 2018 Convention. He has recorded several TV and radio interviews about abuse, spiritual journey, and finding his true self. He is on The Army of Survivors Board of Directors and created An Athlete's Silence. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/silencedbystigma/message

Riding Shotgun With Charlie #136 Lt Lou Lusk & Rick Capozzi Survival Mindset I met Lt Lou Lusk & Rick Capozzi at the Rod of Iron Freedom Festival in Greely, PA, this past fall. I was emceeing the event for one of the days and helping Amanda Suffecool (RSWC #009) with a concealed carry fashion show. In the VIP room, Stephen Willeford (RSWC #088) suggested that I grab Lt Lou and sit in the passenger's seat for a show. Lt Lou was with the team that rescued Jessica Lynch in Iraq in 2003. Lt Lou spent 29 years in service to our country, 14 active duty and 15 in the Pennsylvania Guard, including 7 tours since the Global War on Terrorism. He was part of Task Force 20 and much of the invasions and operations from the War in Iraq are covered in the book COBRA II by Michael Gordon & Bernard Trainor. Lt Lou talks about his time serving the country with much emotion, which is easy to see. Lt Lou refreshes us about the story of Jessica Lynch, how her battalion was captured, then killed and she was left for dead. She was captured and tortured and ended up in a hospital. Lt Lou's team went to bring her back. But they also re-patriotated 13 American soldier's bodies. One of the difficult things was to bring the bodies back during a 3 hour helicopter ride that didn't have body bags. His last tour was as a “BMD” pilot, a Big Mahogany Desk pilot. Lt Lou had a hard time with that as he liked to be with his men, leading from the front. Lt Lou shares some stories about meeting Richard Winters, from Easy Company, which the series Band of Brothers was based on. He and Richard talked about the differences between the generation now and the generation back then and the major differences in how the military goes from war back to civilian life. Major Winters said back then when they came back, it took time. The men had time to decompress and process the acts of war. Nowadays, they finish their battles and within12 hours they're back at home living civilian life. This is one of the issues that haunts many of our military. There isn't the decompression time to process everything that they experienced in war. They want to get home to their families and loved ones. This leads to much of the PTDS that they have, which also leads to suicide. Lt Lou shares some of his demons that he's dealt with after military life. He admits that there were 5 times when he should have died; four during battle and one at his own hands. But without the firing pin in his firearm, he was saved by God. This also explains the tattoo he has on his right arm and why he wears a ring on his right index (trigger) finger. Like many people who have faced death, Lt Lou has 2 special days each year. Rick gets a little time to talk about his business, Survival Mindset. They train everyday people to prepare for armed intruders. And how to respond to deal with a situation. Finally, how to survive a deadly situation. Survival Mindset does realtime drills with their clients, and they can include using several agencies including lifeflight. They work with clients on several levels of whatever their needs are of the people attending classes. Rick tells us some stories about people that have taken training with Survival Mindset and then ended up needing to use their training. I enjoy going back and rewatching shows. There's so much to learn about not just firearms, and not just that gun folks are the greatest folks or that we're everyday folks. But there are challenges in life, regardless of your career or path in life. And no matter who you are or where you are, there are people like Lt Lou and Rick that ‘have your 6'. Favorite quotes: “That night, also with Jessica Lynch, we re-patriaited 13 Ameican soldier's bodies that were buried in shallow graves.”“I don't know what to fix unless I know what's broken.” “It's going to be hard for you to be the one to tell people to do stuff and not do it.” “God has saved me 5 times. Four from an enemy, once from myself.” “When it comes to mental health injury, instead of being broken, you're more shattered.” Time stamps 00:00 Intro 00:50 Lt Lou Lusk & Rick Capozzi 01:57 Lt Lou's military experience 03:13 COBRA II book 05:50 Jessica Lynch rescue 08:43 Last tour as a “BMD” pilot 13:11 Meeting Richard Winters from A Band of Brothers 16:37 “Kept together” 18:41 The solution 21:00 IGY6 23:08 Major Winters 28:54 Mental health 33:02 Survival Mindset Survival Mindset https://survivalmindset.us/ Survivalmindset.org Survival Mindset Facebook https://www.facebook.com/SurvivalMindsetUS Second Amendment Foundation http://saf.org/ Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Radio Toni – Up in the air with Robert Fulton Show 2 Sunday 7th March 2021- 4pm PT USA = 7PM ET USA and Monday 10am AEST (Australia) via zoom Talking Points and questions Welcome and intro – FB, website, like subscribe and email – hi to Paolo, listening on the live streams ready to answer all your questions and send you any of the links you'd like. TONI – This is the second in our series of shows our guest today is an inspirational reinvention specialist, author, and pilot. Robert Fulton was just 3 months shy of retirement, having fully vested in his employer's retirement plan, when they pulled his program and laid everyone off! Robert was forced to reinvent himself and for the first time in his life, in his 50yr career he was grounded. Robert had to figure out how to overcome PTDS, deep depression and what on earth to do in his late 60's. Out of this time was born a book – Up in the sir, a pilot's journey, his aviation memoir spanning 50 yrs. Robert also became an award winning speaker with Toastmasters and now he speaks on overcoming obstacles, reinvention, retirement and leadership. About the book - Up in the Air With more than 20,000 flying hours, Robert Fulton takes you "up in the air" in a series of 10 chapters that detail stories produced by a wide variety of fixed-wing and helicopter missions that on occasion rise to the level of breathtaking terror as well as the luxury of immense relief. In a career spanning almost 50 years, Fulton dives into the riddles of fate in the air, into life's struggle to survive no matter what - finding a way, risking life and limb to achieve a goal, taking calculated risks to overcome an obstacle that blocks your progress. Lessons applicable to life and living are paralleled by the author through lessons in flight where the elements and fate's cruellest outcomes are presented as experiences to learn from. Up in the Air: A Pilot's Journey will have you paying rapt attention to find out how the story ended or what is next, but it will also give you the feelings of the author as he steers in hopeful directions for a favorable outcome for patients, passengers, and fellow pilots who deserve success and to be shielded from fate at its worst. Good evening Robert and welcome to Radio Toni we are so delighted to have you back again this week. Last week we spoke extensively about your life and career and today we want to focus on your amazing book, Up in the Air There's a lovely description of the first time you went up in aircraft, as a child. Can you recount this for the audience, it's a wonderful memory for you isn't it? I noted a wonderful phase from the first chapter of the book, UP in the Air the chapter is called 30sec over Tokyo. I don't want to give away the story but there's a phase I loved from this chapter “Bull riding in the snow” Can you tell the audience what this wonderful phrase refers to? You describe 400 orange helicopters converging from all points in the universe on the Parker County Court house, like bees swarming to the bee hive. What is this describing, and can you take our listeners back to that time and place? One on the Chapters in UP in the Air focuses on fate and the analogy you use is about fortune cookies. Let's talk about fate. How much does the concept of fate enter your mind as a young man flying combat missions in Vietnam in helicopters? How did you deal with this across your career and what are your thoughts about fate? The impact of being part of Vietnam left lifelong impacts, are you happy to talk about Vietnam Robert? What was it like dealing with war as such a young man? What did you do to cope whilst there? What was it like coming home? What are your thoughts about helping our veterans recover to wholeness after being in a war zone? What are snakes and what was their significance in Vietnam? Night flying and snow flying – they are both make for really challenging flying – what are the implications of flying aircraft/helicopters at night? What about the snow and cold? In UP in the Air you write about flying accidents/incidents and dangerous situations, you have had many of those across your career, can you tell the audience about one of those, how did you get back in a plane/helicopter, do those near-death experiences change the way you fly, the way you live life? Up in the Air is peppered with wonderful insights into the technical components of flight, from helicopters to aircraft. You're an expert in this field how did you accomplish the difficulty of converting this type of technical information into such readable and interesting script for readers? Up in the Air is a series of short stories from your decades in the air. Do you have a favourite chapter, if so why? Why do you think women are buying this memoir in such numbers and especially for their husbands? You've had some amazing book reviews so far and I want to read one of these for the listeners today – Book Reviews: Exciting Flying Memoir! A collection of auto-biographical short stories from the author's experiences as a both a helicopter and fixed-wing pilot, Robert Fulton's thrilling new memoir kept me turning the pages late into the night! Fulton writes gut-wrenching moments that brought me to tears and hair-raising experiences explained in detail. The author's wonderful story-telling puts the reader right in the pilot's seat through Vietnam, Arctic flying, perilous wire-filled cities, and low-visibility night flying. “Up in the Air” is an excellent read to be enjoyed by pilots and passengers alike. Finally, what does the future look like for Robert Fulton author, speaker pilot hold? Robert Fulton, thank you! Toni Mention all the ways to connect with Robert, where to buy the book, speaking opportunities.
Welcome to the third episode of our 'Survivor Series' on The Imagination. Today we feature the brave and courageous Kia who comes forth for the first time to break her silence on a story that will both shatter your heart and inspire you at the same time. Kia is a survivor of domestic sibling abuse and sodomy detailing a story of an adopted brother who was a pedophile, predator and domestic abuser to Kia while grooming her siblings. She has a unique story where she comes from a household that would otherwise seem normal to you or I with parents and siblings that cared deeply about her but lacked the ability to face her situation. Kia brilliantly articulates the story from the eyes of her 6-year old self and brings it back to present where she also reflects on the same situation now being in her 30's. You see how even the most loving parents and siblings can experience trauma and denial of their own when someone they love is experiencing unthinkable abuse and you realize through her story that abuse affects much more than just the person receiving it and has a ripple effect to everyone closest to the situation. The more we empower survivors to share their stories, the more we educate present and future parents and children how to identify and deal with hostile situations and/or predators who may take any shape or form. This story will tug at your heartstrings and will challenge your current beliefs about what victims go through as children and how their experiences deeply impact them long after they've survived their abuse. Survivors never get to 'move on' from their experiences and in so many unconscious ways, the abuse lives on forever stored as memories, PTDS, anxiety, recurring nightmares, trust issues, relationship issues, uncontrollable emotions, paranoia and so much more. This is a topic we all need to educate ourselves on so we know how to show up and support survivors and have more empathy for those battling silent wars that we are unaware of and come in contact with everyday. Kia's story shows it can happen to anyone. It could have been me, you, or our children in this story. It's THAT close to home. Kia is someone I deeply admire and look up to for what she's overcome and her story deserves to be honored just as much as every celebrity and successful entrepreneur who overcame great odds to do something 'impossible'. Unlike business owners, survivors never had or have a choice as to what they were willing to consent to, continue experiencing, or were ready to experience. They were forced into horrific things most of us cannot even begin to fathom - with NO tools or special skills - and 'succeed' in overcoming their own great odds. Every survivor I've had the honor of meeting is now a bright light beaming to help others. These survivors refine the word 'success' and what they've overcome (not by choice but by force!) deserves to be recognized as 'the new success'. My goal with this series is to talk about what no one else will talk about and to give these brave survivors a voice they've never had. A movement starts with one person - why not let that person be You? *DISCLAIMER - DIALOGUE NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN Listen, share, connect, and subscribe to be alerted when each episode drops.Connect with and support Kia: Instagram: @shakiarodan Connect with 'The Imagination':Instagram & Facebook: @yourimaginationisreal (follow us!)Telegram: @NotYourDietWoke (https://t.me/notyourdietwoke)Website: https://yourimaginationisreal.comRumble: @theemmapreneurofficial Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theimaginationpodcast?fan_landing=true)

ON A MISSIONMENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE for all in our Armed Forces is a GOOD, IMPORTANT, and ESSENTIAL thing that SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED.For my sisters and brothers-in-arms of the United States Armed Forces, this is for you… for all of us! The beauty of being at the pinnacle of one's military career and in its twilight years is that you just may find you have more courage and confidence to speak up about things that you should have always been able to speak up about when you felt fairly certain that you would be criticized or scorned.I am Shawn Walrath. I am an Air Force O-6/colonel. These are matters of public record. And I'm asking for a few minutes of your time.We SHOULD NOT have NEGATIVE STIGMAS associated with MENTAL and BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE! Someone (me) seeking Mental or Behavioral healthcare should be viewed no differently than someone seeking everyday Primary Medical or Dental healthcare. It's about taking care of oneself and each other! So, here's that next big step in my career...I choose to be an even stronger advocate for Mental and Behavioral healthcare. I choose to not only lead, encourage, and support others but to LEAD BY MY OWN EXAMPLE! So here it is...I am a MENTAL HEALTH PATIENT. I am a BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PATIENT. I am a survivor and I am receiving therapy for diagnosed Anxiety Disorder. The specifics are for me and my provider(s). I am also a survivor and I am receiving therapy for diagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Again, the specifics are for me and my provider(s). I share this NOT for sympathy. Because, I'm all good. My therapy over the past 14 months has helped me a great deal in learning how to change how I think about and how I respond to these challenges. Rather, I share this to REASSURE my fellow service members--my fellow joint warriors--that you too CAN and SHOULD be comfortable in seeking Mental or Behavioral healthcare. I DIDN'T LOSE MY SECURITY CLEARANCE. I WASN'T REMOVED FROM MY JOB OR MY POSITION OF TRUST. I WAS STILL A VERY SUCCESSFUL SQUADRON COMMANDER WHILE SUFFERING MOSTLY ALONE. I'M STILL WORLDWIDE DEPLOYABLE. AND... I'M STILL A STRONG HUSBAND, FATHER, FRIEND, AIRMAN, LEADER, OFFICER, INTELLIGENCE PROFESSIONAL, AND JOINT WARRIOR. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY...THERE IS NOTHING, AND I MEAN NOTHING, TO BE ASHAMED ABOUT!If you need support, encouragement, or assistance, CALL ON ME. I'M HERE. I will NEVER leave a SISTER or BROTHER-IN-ARMS alone. We're in this TOGETHER, through it all.SHARE YOUR STORYI am writing an article on this topic that I started over a year ago. And it will hopefully be published this summer. Please feel welcomed and encouraged to share this blog and podcast on your own social media platform.Again if you need help and you are unsure of where to start or how to start, call on me. A fascinating discussion with Gail Marlow from Detroit's Motor City Mission. Imagine losing everything that you have—or struggling with severe mental illness which is untreated and which means that functioning in every society is incredibly difficult. Perhaps you are a veteran whose experiences in conflict zones has left you with PTDS and deep emotional scars? Or maybe a family trapped in a cycle of poverty and much of your income pays for a motel room with not enough left over to bur or rent a home of your own? It could be that you have challenges with substance abuse or even having a terminal health condition such as cancer. These are some of the things which The Motor City Mission works with every day. In this interview, Gail Marlow discusses the fantastic work that she and her team do every single day of the year. Connecting and supporting people who, for a variety of reasons., can't or won't access other services. Gail discusses some of the reasons that people end up on the street and the sorts of things that she and her colleagues provide. Basics such as food and clothes. Practical and emotional support and assistance to access healthcare. Although this discussion is about Detroit, the critical and challenging issues raised are valid across much of our world today and only made more challenging by the COVID-19 pandemic. Gail is a truly wonderful and inspirational human being marrying professionalism with a deep sense of care and passion for her work and the community that they serve. A genuinely inspiring conversation.
We talk with Nolan from Outcast Comics and Brad and Tom from Crossroads Farms, a Non-Profit Charity Helping Armed Forced Veterans and First Responders.
Guest: Patrick Gallus, D.O., Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Gallus Medical Detox Center PTSD Awareness day is June 27th. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can start with a very traumatic event, 60% of men and 50% for women are from accidents or war. Those numbers are very similar to subsistence use. PTSD is direct exposure to trauma and there are 17 different criteria define PTSD. This could be things such as nightmares, flashbacks, isolation from other people and in a lot of cases leads to substance abuse. There is no timeline as to when a person might experience PTSD. Women have a higher rate of PTDS then men. This could be because people are afraid to get help because of the stigma of mental health. https://www.gallusdetox.com/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Guest: Giampiero Scattolon Bio: I was born in Peru, and grew up in Los Angeles, CA. I’ve lived in Germany for several years and now I live in New Hampshire. I served in the US Army for three years and spent most of 2010 in a combat tour in Afghanistan. Around 2014 I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was fortunate to have a therapist who was really there for me for about 12 months. Today in hindsight I see that the one thing my therapist did for me was to create a space for me to speak, and overtime I was able to better articulate what I was feeling inside, and in turn better understand myself. The purpose of having a genuine conversations is not to find an answer to our question(s) but to learn how to ask a better question. Question 1: How did you realized that your experiences from war were affecting you? Question 2 Was therapy for PTDS helpful? Question 3 What is your message for people who have been through a traumatic experience? At age 21 he joined the Royal Air Force. At 22 years old he was eagerly on his way to Afghanistan. Things took an unexpected turn there for him. He found himself in a bad spot- suffering from the crippling effects of PTSD and severe depression. After 7 years of that suffering, and a lot of medication & therapy, he was medically discharged from the military. Still mentally unwell and unsure of what he was going to do in his new life as a civilian, he made the tough decision to put his past behind him, take control and build the life that he wanted to live. Obsessed with the idea of personal success in every area of life, he developed methods and habits to channel his experience to benefit himself and others, creating his own version of success using his super-alert ADHD brain. Pete now spends his time helping other people to overcome their personal challenges, put their negative circumstances behind them, and create their own idea of success. He has recently written a book about his experiences named “From The Bottom Of The Barrel”. He generously shares his story with us here today. Enjoy! In this episode Peter & Pete discuss: 2:16- Intro & welcome Pete! 2:58- So, what led you to joining the military? 3:50- What led to your PTDS & depression after having such a good start? 5:43- A lot of people in the military, in this country anyway, still fight a strong stigma against mental repair. How did it go for you in the UK? 7:02- When people hear the phrase “the crippling effects of depression, or PTSD”, they don’t always comprehend what that means really, unless they’ve experienced them first hand. Would you share with us some of the effects you have experienced please? 8:45- What were some of the therapies that helped you get through it and climb out? ref: EMDR Therapy 11:48- The military is completely schedule-driven. Regimented. When you were discharged, you lost that order in your life. How did you handle that? 13:06- What do you tell people who are re-entering civilian life? 14:15- So, what prompted you to write this book: “From The Bottom Of The Barrel”? 15:43- Is it available on Amazon? YES via Amazon.co.uk 15:54- How can people find you? www.ImperiumLifeCoaching.com Facebook: @imperiumlifecoaching Via email: Pete@ImperiumLifeCoaching.com 16:34- Thank you Pete! What You'll Hear: Dr. Damon Friedman had good people in his life who talked about Jesus and he even understood Jesus as Lord but hadn't embraced Him as his personal savior. He was born and raised in LA. His Mom was born in Puerto Rico. He got a full scholarship to college for running but then he dropped out. In his sophomore year in college he accepted Jesus as his personal savior but didn't grow spiritually. He graduated with honors with a double major in psychology and criminal social justice His biological father was very abusive physically and emotionally His single Mom got government support and Damon joined the military to give back. He was impressed by a marine who approached him and so he served with the Marines for 5 years and then went into Air Force Special Op's. He founded SOF (Shield of Faith) Missions, based on Eph 6. They have 3 initiatives 1) Creating awareness through film 2) Provide support through groups and education 3) Intensive care (also called the Surrender Project) In 2010 he was deployed and his life was a mess. He was fighting without sleep for 72 hours. He promised to serve the Lord and God saved Damon Committing your life to Christ shares some similarities to when someone commits to serve in the military We need to do something about the vets and active duty military who are killing themselves The film was the idea of someone he met from Greg Laurie's Harvest Crusade. They filmed where American Sniper was filmed in the dessert. The film is the main weapon to capture people's attention. Their focus initially is vets but intend to also help first responders, etc.
Do you ever wonder why you can’t trust your spouse? Especially when you think you should be able to? Before we start, we want to make it clear who this episode is for because it may not be immediately apparent from the title. We’re speaking to men and women who are struggling to trust their spouse and recognize that this trust issue lies primarily within themselves at this point. There may have been a past betrayal or not. If there was you might say something like, “I know in my head that I can trust him or her now, but I just can’t get past the doubts.” You know your spouse is trustworthy, but you can’t get there yourself as far as trusting them. So, if you’re struggling to trust and you cannot, and you are sure this is about something happening within yourself, this article is for you. On the other hand, if you’ve gone through a betrayal and you’re struggling to trust and maybe your spouse is continuing to act in ways that are concealing or suspicious in nature and your lack of trust is legitimate, this is not for you. Trust your gut. But if it’s more like you feel something’s wrong in you rather than in your relationship, we’d like to help you. Finally, if you’ve betrayed your spouse and you can’t get them to trust you, don’t just stick your spouse in the bucket we are discussing today. A severe betrayal takes a long time to recover from. In fact, their discovery of your betrayal was probably a traumatic event and your spouse may be suffering from a variation of PTDS called Post Infidelity Stress Disorder. Remember, everything said here should be seen as a self-help tool and not as a replacement for counselling! So…trust. Trust has been defined as the “confidence that [one] will find what is desired [from another] rather than what is feared.[i] It’s the idea that when I turn to Caleb for something I have this innate confidence that he will provide what I desire. He’s safe. He’s reliable. He’s predictable. Now, if he’s all those things but I cannot trust him, then I have a problem that I need to address. Trust is implicit in love. 1 Corinthians 13 talks about love, and verse 7 says, “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” Do you hear the trust implicit in that? Proverbs 31:11 has this really neat little statement talking about the virtuous woman: “The heart of her husband trusts in her”. Trust is an emotional confidence in another person. That’s why betrayal hurts so bad and why it takes time to hear – because it touches you to the core. On the other hand, when you can’t trust but you should be able to, then this affects your marriage bond because of that fact that trust is implicit in love. In terms of why you can’t trust your spouse, here are a few different possibilities that may apply to you. Lack of Trust as Means of Maintaining Control The first possibility is that you may be holding onto a lack of trust as a means of maintaining control. In 2015, some researchers looked at the influence of trust on conflict discussions. Typically, if you’re a trusting person you tend to make positive attributions about your spouse even in questionable circumstances. You also tend to display more positive emotions than negative when you’re in conflict. On the other hand, if you’re a low-trust individual, you tend towards pessimistic views.[ii] For example, if you find a long black hair on your husband’s sweater and no one in your family has long black hair, a trusting spouse would remove the hair and that’s it. Instead, a low trust spouse may start the conversation with, “Who does this belong to?” When you’re less trusting, you often move very quickly towards tactics that really destabilize the relationship or even harm it because you have this underlying belief that your spouse is concealing negative events from you. In marriage then, low-trust spouses are more influential than high-trust spouses. They tend to pull down the high-trust spouse towards more negative o...
Tonight's special guest is Eva from the High Desset in California, a child abuse survivor who's dealt a lot with DID, dissociative identity disorder. The main cause of DID is believed to be severe and prolonged trauma experienced during childhood, including emotional, physical or sexual abuse. Eva, now 38, was born in Japan, and has since become an American citizen. After her grandfather passed away in 2001 things started to change in her life. Grief counceling eventually led her to understand how little she knew of herself! As she says, "I always had a vague sense of something wasn't quite right with me, and I had never felt happy for all of my life, as long as I could remember." She learned she was suffering from PTDS .. but there was more to it than that. "In 2002, I was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder, more commonly known as Multiple Personality Disorder." She was scared and confused. "I think any child would be very scared if she was lost in an unfamiliar place with no one she knew around her. When I lost time, that's what if felt like - being a lost child." She's been healing since then, and now helps others. "I truly suffered alone. It was a long and lonely road to go through all by myself. And I don't want others who are living with DID to go through what I had to go through. That's why I started SoCal DID Meetup." Eva also offers her email address to anyone who wants help with these issues: AliveLovelyWhole@gmail.com

Tonight's special guest is Teresa Belsky of North Platt, Nebraska, an abuse survivor and activist who's especially concerned with anti-trafficking campaigns, issues of child XXX-rated pictures and Internet crimes against women and children. Teresa writes, "My first major nervous breakdown began after the FBI came to our door to question my then husband. To make a long story short, I wasn't his camera's only victim." (He had been hiding a camera for 10 years) "I started having flashbacks of attacks mixed with memories of happiness. A cycle. I was married to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." In the ensuing few years, Teresa suffered from numerous embarrassments, flashbacks and humiliations. Bouts of PTDS were frequent. Teresa says, "The moral of my story is to be careful how the use of cameras can affect your life. I understand that my ex started watching XXX-rated materials at age 5 from 3pm to 5pm every day after school. Unfortunately, he was raped by a neighbor man at the age of 7." She concludes, "Thank you for allowing me to pass the lesson I learned on to you. By doing so, I did not suffer in vain." She's returned to school and is planning to open an office of W.C.A.I.C. (Women and Children Affected by Internet Crimes) in North Platte in 2015. "When I initially sought help in the past, I was told 'Sorry, we can't help you. NO ONE is trained in that area.' Thus... I am a Psychology major and future Therapist for Human Trafficking Victims / Survivors in 2015 (after I graduate)."

Background: The aim of the present study was to assess the internal consistency and discriminant and convergent validity of the Bosnian version of a self-report measure of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the Posttraumatic Stress Diagnostic Scale (PTDS). The PTDS yields both a PTSD diagnosis according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition (DSM-IV) and a measure of symptom severity. Methods: 812 people living in Sarajevo or in Banja Luka in Bosnia-Herzegovina, of whom the majority had experienced a high number of traumatic war events, were administered the PTDS and other measures of trauma-related psychopathology. The psychometric properties of the instrument were assessed using Cronbach's alpha and principal components analysis, and its construct validity was assessed via Spearman correlation coefficients with the other instruments. Results: The PTDS and its subscales demonstrated high internal consistency. The principal components revealed by an exploratory analysis are broadly consistent with the DSM-IV subscales except that they reproduce some previously reported difficulties with the "numbing" items from the avoidance subscale. The construct validity of the PTDS was supported by appropriate correlations with other relevant measures of trauma related psychopathology. Conclusion: The Bosnian version of the PTDS thus appears to be a time-economic and psychometrically sound measure for screening and assessing current PTSD. This self-report measure awaits further validation by interview methods.
