The process of curating this final entry in the series has been anything but smooth—starting and stopping more times than I'd like to admit. Normally, I prefer to have everything in place and finish a set in one go, but the lack of standout releases made this a real challenge. That's not to say there aren't any gems in this mix. Quite the opposite—through persistence and digging deep across DJ services, Beatport, and even Spotify, I uncovered tracks that truly move me. And if they move me, I know they'll bring my followers to the dancefloor. Party Favorz doesn't stop until the job is done. This set features several updated throwbacks, many of which are making waves on DJ charts, while others may have flown under the radar—until now. As always, Party Favorz is here to bring the best to light. Highlights include: Diplo's rework of Gala's '90s Eurodance anthem "Freed From Desire." David Timothy's fresh take on Billie Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms." Tommy MC's reimagining of Jody Watley's '80s classic "Don't You Want Me." Stuart Ojelay's heavenly spin on Danny Tenaglia's "Music Is the Answer." Stone Van Brooken's faithful update of Faithless' "Insomnia." Block & Crown's transformation of The Fugees' "Ready or Not" into a House anthem. TLC's celebratory House remix of their hit "Creep" for CrazySexyCool's 30th anniversary. Cosmic Dawn's Afro House remix of Everything But the Girl's "Missing." Most of these reworks remain true to the original while modernizing them for today's dancefloors. Exceptions like TLC's "Creep" lean heavily into reinvention, but it works beautifully. The trend of revamping classics continues with notable remakes, such as: Ava Max's rendition of "Forever Young." Ku De Ta's "Dance I Said," sampling Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It." Alesso & John Alto's update of Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Matt Sassari & Hugel's faithful revival of Sonique's "It Feels So Good," featuring a new vocalist. Jax Jones, Azteck, and Norma Jean Martine's fresh take on the Rihanna riff from Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie." It seems the trend of revamping tracks from yesteryear—be it from parents' record collections or early CD libraries—is here to stay. When done right, these reworks breathe new life into the dancefloor. Clocking in at just over three hours, this set blends fresh, new releases with timeless reworks, making it a strong contender for your end-of-year holiday parties. And the fun doesn't stop here—our Top Dance Songs of the Year set drops in a few weeks,

Billie Ray Martin's story reads like a Hollywood movie, full of twists and turns. It even contains the obligatory 'singer looks for band' advert which leads to Electribe 101. But when a second album is rejected the band splits, Billie Ray Martin goes solo, and the album is forgotten for 30 years until it was released a couple of years ago.Full Interview on YouTube also here:https://youtu.be/QN5KQenAou8?si=g1XMf_bY7nTzwzFfOut now - Electribal Memories from Electribe 101With four new projects on the horizon, in this in-depth career spanning interview, Billie Ray Martin, talks about her humble working-class beginnings growing up in the Reeperbahn district of Hamburg, moving to Berlin where she gains experience on-stage in bands, and her first impressions of when she first moved to London. There she became a vocalist for S'Express, talks about that now-legendary advert that led to Electribe 101, the missiles that were thrown when supporting Depeche Mode, the moment she knew 'Your Loving Arms' would be a massive success, and the brilliant 'lost' album of Electribe 101 - 'Electribal Soul' that released in 2022. HiFi Sean (Sean Dickson) was the singer and main writer of The Soup Dragons, who charted in Europe in 1990 with 'I'm Free', an indie dance cover of the Rolling Stones hit. Later, in 1992, their track 'Divine Thing' was a top 40 hit on the Billboard chart in America. After their first album, 'This is Our Art', the band developed their sound in a more dance and less indie direction. Ten years after the band was founded in 1985, it disbanded. Sean Dickson came out as gay, an event that led to a breakdown, he formed The High Fidelity and. after DJ-ing already earlier in his life, became successful under the name HiFi Sean.Today, he continues to DJ, and make music. HiFi Sean's album Ft. includes tracks by Crystal Waters, Yoko Ono, Dave Ball, Billie Ray Martin (check out her podcast), and David McAlmont, with whom he has already recorded an album that will be released next year. His story is fascinating, and he's able to relate the events in his life with a healthy distance, as someone who is now a happily married gay man.If you like Hifi Sean why not check out these interviews:Billie Ray Martin, the Electronic Series which includes Wolfgang Flür & Martyn Ware, Man Parrish, Dave Dorrell.Connect with me on Instagram; steve.blameFor more on HiFi Sean check out his SoundCloud; https://soundcloud.com/hifi-sean And thanks to POP; The History Makers insanely wonderful talent booker: #ArchieCMichaelSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/pop-the-history-makers-with-steve-blame/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Hosted on Acast. Billie Ray Martin's 'Your Loving Arms' was a top ten hit in the U.K, a massive club hit worldwide, and remains one of the great dance anthems. Her story reads like a Hollywood movie, full of twists and turns. It even contains the obligatory 'singer looks for band' advert which leads to Electribe 101. But when a second album is rejected, the band splits, Billie Ray Martin goes solo, and the album is forgotten for 30 years. Until this year!In this, Part One of a two-part interview with Billie Ray Martin, she talks about her humble working-class beginnings growing up in the Reeperbahn district of Hamburg, moving to Berlin where she gains experience on-stage in bands, and her first impressions of when she first moved to London.Connect with me on Instagram; steve.blameFor more on Billie Ray Martin - https://www.billieraymartin.com/ And thanks to POP; The History Makers insanely wonderful talent booker: #ArchieCMichael See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today's Electronically Yours episode features the much-underrated talents of Billie Ray Martin, most famous for a string of hits with 90's electro outfit Electribe 101. Her soaring, soul-inflected vocals were the perfect foil for the driving, electronic dance songs, and her songwriting and solo career remains to this day of the highest quality and daring… Ladies and gentlemen - I'm not talking with myself, I'm talking with the one and only Billie Ray Martin... It's hard to overstate the influence that Richard Norris has had on the music industry over the past 40 years. In his youth in St Albans, Richard got involved in the experimental and creative punk rock scene, forming the Innocent Vicars, creating a DIY fanzine called 99%, working as a label manager for Bam Caruso and writing for Strange Things and the NME. Following a, let's say, "educational" collaboration with Genesis P. Orridge, Richard formed The Grid with Dave Ball (from Soft Cell) in 1988 and released their debut single, the Balearic-inspired Floatation in 1990. It was their 1994 single, Swamp Thing with the inspired banjo reel that catapulted the band to commercial success. This era marked a significant transformation, introducing Classic House Tracks that are still admired today. As we moved into the mid-90s, the interplay between Hip Hop and House Music began to fade, each genre charting its distinct path. However, the era was far from mundane; the budding Trance genre started teasing the mainstream, artists like Opus III and Josh Wink paving the way. Legends like Oakenfold and Rollo & Sister Bliss were creating waves with big room House tracks, setting the stage for their eventual renowned status. Old School House Music during this time was filled with Soulful House legends like MAW, Frankie Knuckles, and David Morales. Commercial House music was flourishing with remixers like Love To Infinity, StoneBridge, Brothers In Rhythm, and Roger Sanchez. Underground sensations like Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran, and Armand Van Helden were crafting Big Room tracks that would soon conquer the club scene. Unveiling this series is akin to opening a musical time capsule, filled with the Best 90s House Remixes that once ruled the dance floors but have since vanished from the collective memory. For instance, the "Beautiful People" mixed by C.J. became a timeless hit for Barbara Tucker. Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love," remixed by C + C Music Factory, symbolizes the era's profound emotions. Tracks like the Love To Infinity's Classic Paradise Club Mix of Judy Cheeks' "As Long As You're Good To Me" or the MAW Style Mix of "Everybody Be Somebody" by Ruffneck feat. Yavahn represent the artistic brilliance of the time. Junior Vasquez's Soundfactory Mix of "Your Loving Arms" by Billie Ray Martin captures the innovative spirit of the 90s Club Anthems. The Ultimate 90s House Classics series is not just a collection; it's a heartfelt tribute to an incredible era that shaped today's music landscape. It revives the 90s Club Anthems, like the Junior Vasquez 10.31 Mix of "Keep In Touch (Body To Body)" by Shades Of Love, which once pulsated through speakers around the world. Volume two of the Ultimate 90s House Classics from 1994-1995 is arriving soon. Until then, let these Old School House Music tracks transport you back to a time when dance floors were alive with energy and passion. Until the next time...ENJOY! DJ TOMMY “T” (NYC) Rocking the decks at a young age, DJ TOMMY "T" (NYC) has captivated dance floors across the globe with his unique style of mixing. Born in Queens, and growing up on the outskirts of New York City, Tommy listened to an array of different musical genres from “Rock” to “New Wave” to “Hip-Hop” to “Freestyle” and to the underground sounds of “Club Music”. It was at the age of thirteen when Tommy was first introduced to the “Club Scene”, his older friends who were already clubbin’ had turned him on to the one sound that perhaps paved the way for him in ways he’d yet to realize. The DJ bug hadn't bitten into Tommy just yet, for a while he'd had his hand in other aspects of the music industry, working in Promotions and as Road Management/Artist Development with Def Jam, Warner Brothers, & Sony, as well as the likes of various artists such as, Bad Boy Bill, C&C Music Factory (Ft. Freedom Williams),Nadine Renée (Of: Planet Soul) & Billie Ray Martin to name a few. It wasn’t until after several years of clubbing and going to house parties with fellow DJ Friends, that Tommy started to realize his calling and figured he could do it better than some of the stuff he was listening to. From then on Tommy has been addicted. "It was all a fluke, I used to enjoy the music and never had aspirations of dee-jaying until I wanted to hear music a certain way and I said I could do it better than the next guy". DJ's such as David Morales, "BABY" Hec Romero, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, & Little Louie Vega were all influences in the Tommy "T" sound you hear today. As time progressed Tommy became infatuated with the Chicago House scene. This was the extra added ingredient to his special style. "Going to Chicago is like being in school, the talent out there is first class and the experience and knowledge you gain from everyone is golden" Being a big fan of classics such as the Sal Soul Era, Tommy has been able to incorporate that musical knowledge into his sets. Always looking for the next level to climb Tommy joined long time friend Roger Sanchez on tour to over see things and help out. This was the golden opportunity for Tommy, as he likes to call it: "S.O.S." School Of Sanchez. Tommy enhanced his mixing skills and programming by learning from the best. "This was an opportunity that I was blessed with, I learned alot". The Tommy "T" sound is very across the board, it’s Chunky, sexy, tribal, & deep with an edge of Techno. Tommy keeps it across the board so that you want more. Tommy "T" has continued sharing his DJ skills to crowds from all over the world from various segments on AREA 33 SIRIUS RADIO to GROOVE RADIO to various other stations as well as DJ’ing in such great places as Colombia, South America, Canada and the U.S.A. Tommy is not just limited to spinning house, he’s also has held down various hip hop residencies in NYC, among other dance music type genres as well. Tommy "T" feels that it is important to educate the crowd and take the party to the next level. "I always vibe off the way the crowd reacts and then kick it up 100% giving them that extra edge of excitement. Currently Tommy "T" is touring and keeping busy in the studio working on making the people dance!! Starting off with the quintessential Eurodance hit, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, this compilation will take you back to the time when catchy lyrics and infectious beats were all the rage. Regardless of personal opinions about its merits, there's no denying the impact this track had on the Eurodance scene. Similarly, tracks from Vengaboys, like "We Like To Party" and "Boom Boom Boom," encapsulated the era's sound with their distinct Ibiza beat and memorable hooks, earning their place on both dance and pop charts globally. This collection also includes Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone," a track that perfectly captured the spirit of late 90s heartache against a backdrop of pulsating beats. With its undeniable Eurodance and Techno influences, this track became a comforting anthem for many during times of emotional turmoil. Moving slightly into the realm of Trance, we have the early millennium hit "Toca's Miracle" by Fragma, and N-Trance's genre-bending "Set You Free," blending Drum & Bass, Freestyle, and Trance. Duke's "So In Love," a significant house music staple with Eurodance elements, is also a noteworthy inclusion in this volume. Tracks like Rozalla's "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" and Billie Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms" offer a seamless blend of House and Eurodance, demonstrating the genre's versatility. Abigail's remakes of "Losing My Religion" and "Constant Craving" further illustrate this fusion, combining familiar tunes with a Eurodance and Trance twist for an enticing dancefloor experience. No Eurodance compilation would be complete without Nicki French's dancefloor-filling rendition of Bonnie Tyler's classic "Total Eclipse of the Heart," an exceptional blend of Hi-NRG and Eurodance. Likewise, Livin' Joy's hits "Dreamer" and "Don't Stop Movin'," provide a winning fusion of House and Eurodance. With the third volume of the Ultimate Eurodance Collection, dive into the nostalgic memories of the 90s Eurodance and Techno era, filled with classic tunes that transcended genre boundaries. Stay tuned for the final installment of this journey, and as always... ENJOY! Album : The Ultimate Eurodance Collection vol. 3 Genre : Euro-dance, Hi-NRG, Techno Year : 2020 Total Time : 01:52:30 1. It's nothing short of an earth-shattering tribute that dives deep into the prodigious career of this industry titan. Volume 2 is particularly focused on the late '80s through the present day, capturing the essence of Junior Vasquez's meteoric rise during the '90s and early millennium. Two anthems demand your attention. Barbara Tucker's "Love's On Time" starts as a as a spoken word motherly advice backed by a gospel choir before building into a massive, gay anthem, encapsulating the hope that love arrives just when you need it. On the other hand, Jennifer Holliday's "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" is the quintessential gay anthem, combining Holliday's sky-high vocals with a message of defiant resilience—echoing sentiments deeply rooted in the LGBTQ+ community. Junior's mastery transforms these tracks, not merely remixing them, but elevating them into unforgettable experiences. This volume also serves up Junior's unforgettable reimaginings for the incomparable Mary J. Blige and Billie Ray Martin. His version of "Your Child" takes Blige's soulful vocals to new heights, while "Your Loving Arms" completely redefines the original, turning it into a dancefloor anthem that has stood the test of time. Of course, it would be a disservice not to mention his work with the infallible Whitney Houston, an artist who needs no introduction. Both "Greatest Love of All" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" are transformed into uplifiting dance hits that honor the late diva while ensuring that her voice still reigns supreme on the dancefloor. And then we have Kristine W and her track "Feel What You Want," another example of how Junior has the exceptional ability to inject his own DNA into a song while respecting the essence of the original. Let's not forget his self-referential "If Madonna Calls," a track that put him on the outs with the DIVA who eventually sidelined him in favor of other DJs in our legacy series, and Nelly Furtado's "I'm Like A Bird," which Junior turned from a quicklypop song into a massive dance club hit. Finally, Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" receives a Pride-worthy remix from Junior, perfectly capturing the spirit of the original while giving it an injection of pure dance energy. If you haven't caught on yet, Junior Vasquez was the ultimate purveyor of gay anthems to our community and we are forever indedbted to him. In creating this second volume, our intent was to showcase the range and diversity of Junior Vasquez's decades-long career. From working with divas to music legends and under...

David Harrow could easily play on musical heritage if he wanted, but that's not his style. The man has played with enough true legends of overground and underground music for several lifetimes, and could dine out for years on the hair-raising stories of far out and extreme musical scenes he's been involved with. But what links all his musical adventures so far is a constant quest for new and stimulating sounds, and that applies as strongly now as when he first launched into the post-punk climate in the 80’s So through synth-soaked new wave and Neue Deutsche Welle, through playing with disco legends like Razormaid on the San Francisco scene, through going deep into dub and experimental electronics as part of the On-U Sound production and live team, through the dirty rave haunts of London with Andrew Weatherall, through huge international tours as Technova, through a huge pop smash with Billie Ray Martin, through his live drum’n’bass extravaganzas as James Hardway, through the trance world, on through the Californian bass and weird-beat scenes as OICHO, to the esoteric ambient soundscapes and percussion soundtracks he releases today, Harrow is always, as a wise man once said “on to the next one”. And that hunger for the next sound, the next new idea, is what keeps his music as dazzlingly exciting as it has ever been. info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Harrow Interviews https://daily.bandcamp.com/2017/04/24/David-harrow-interview/ current labels http://workhouse.us http://stasisrecordings.com/Site/DH.html https://oicho.bandcamp.com remixs https://www.discogs.com/artist/1702760-Oicho?filter_anv=0&subtype=Remix&type=Credits live low end theory LA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW05omN0Rr8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3vcKmCFh9c https://vimeo.com/184072225 videos https://vimeo.com/oicho radio shows https://www.mixcloud.com/workhouse/ as usual 2017 is turning out to be a busy year continuing live electronic dub performances as OICHO all over california masterclassshowcases and electronic music instruction at POINT BLANK music academy album production for leila gobi world renowned tuareg singer plus too many remix to mention! improvised ambient electronic modular performances in unique environments such as the banks of the LA River , the HAMMER and the BROAD museums regular 4 hour reggae/dub DJ sets at the Echoplex LA vip DJ sets for U2 at the Rosebowl, Guns n Roses at Dodgers stadium and the Weekend at the Forum
In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience. Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. Business As Usual: June Tracklisting 01. Billie Ray Martin may be an unlikely candidate for induction into the Diva Hall of Fame but her deeply soulful voice and an ear of what the musical landscape was at any given time during her career makes her the perfect choice. Her first big break came with the group Electribe 101 whose Talking With Myself is considered a classic in all its various incarnations. The original version released in 1988 still holds up to this day but got a makeover by none other than Frankie Knuckles in 1990. However, it wasn't until 1998 when a new set of remixes by Canny (one a Trance mix and the other a Chill mix) both won the hearts and minds of club-goers and the electronic music community. By the mid-90's Electribe 101 had broken up while negotiating a new record contract and Billie ultimately went solo and was signed to Sire/Warner in the US. The resulting album was the absolutely mesmerizing Deadline For My Memories coupled with Kristine W's Land of the Living (released around the same time in 1996 in the US) held a very special place in my musical heart, even to this day. That album contained many songs that were slated for the second Electribe 101 album including Your Loving Arms, which went on to massive success at radio and in the clubs. It's unclear as to why Billie Ray left Warner records but it may have had something to do with her not being allowed to record in a Memphis studio, a lifelong dream of hers. From there, Billie Ray has controlled her own destiny releasing material on her own labels or in collaboration with other artists. Musically, she swings from electronic and house to circuit and deep house. With un-matched vocal skills that are perfectly suited for the Stax influence of artists like Aretha Franklin, you can see just how easily it translates into the aforementioned genres. While the mix I've created in her honor comes nowhere close to her output over the years, it's a good start. It is with great love and respect that Party Favorz honors Billie Ray Martin by inducting her into the Diva Hall of Fame. You're in good company. By the mid-90s Electribe 101 had broken up while negotiating a new record contract and Billie ultimately went solo and was signed to Sire/Warner in the US. The resulting album was the mesmerizing Deadline For My Memories coupled with Kristine W's Land of the Living (released around the same time in 1996 in the US) held a very special place in my musical heart, even to this day. From there, Billie Ray has controlled her destiny releasing material on her own labels or in collaboration with other artists. Musically, she swings from electronic and house to circuit and deep house. With unmatched vocal skills that are perfectly suited for the Stax influence of artists like Aretha Franklin, you can see just how easily it translates into the aforementioned genres. While the mix I've created in her honor comes nowhere close to her output over the years, it's a good start. It is with great love and respect that Party Favorz honors Billie Ray Martin by inducting her into the Diva Hall of Fame. You're in good company. This set is so slamming that if I sit on it another week, I'll end up mucking it up with some new tunes that come out over the next few days and better to leave perfection alone. I kick it off with the welcome return of Billie Ray Martin's latest The Glitter Gutter. Vocally, she's never sounded better and the dark underpinning of the lyrics suits Offer Nissim's Dramatic rendering. PA hottie Jason Walker's So Happy finally has some newer mixes I can sink my teeth into. Though the Moto Blanco mix does the best justice to this uplifting song, Toy Armada and DJ Grind get huge props for taking it up a notch without getting bogged down in boring repetitive beats that totally lose the essence of the original. Not trying to rag on the other DJs on this two-set release but seriously, you need to step up your game. Rupaul and AB Soto hit all the right notes with the fun Cha Cha Bitch, while Spin Sista truly deliver the anthem in Meghan Trainor's huge No. Ari Gold really brings it to the floor with his latest Turn Out the Night while DJ Maycon Reis surprises with Lost and Found by Ellie Goulding. In fact, I'd keep an eye on this guy because it's clear he has the ear and the skills to churn out some monsters. DJ Ranny continues to amaze with his remix of I Don't See Them by SR. I am really impressed with his work lately since he appears to be pulling out some truly original vibes not typically found in your run of the mill circuit tunes though we are still partial to his tribal Latin beats when it's required. There's no need to mention Barry Harris since we all know how I feel about him. I will say that his bootleg re-work of Beyonce's Freedom is spectacular; so much so I passed on the dredge that is her duet with Drake. I do need to mention that the cover art is lifted from a photo shoot for AussieBum. I usually go for the sexier hot guy pics but was carrying over the summer theme from yesterdays EDM Sessions. The only problem is that the more I look at this photo, the more it looks like a postcard or advert for Key West or some other hot gay vacation spot. A little too happy and campy if you ask me or maybe I'm just a cynic. Then again, Key West is a lot of fun if you've never been. That's all I got for now. Not sure where I'm heading next on releases until we get into Pride season; even then, I don't have my plans drawn up but am pretty confident I'll work it out over the next few weeks. This time, we unearth lesser-known tales and unheard vibes from a decade that, much like the collapse of the Soviet Union, marked the end of old orders and the burgeoning of the new. So, without further ado, let's delve into some unforgettable tracks that framed club culture, influenced lifestyle, and are still absolute bangers. Deee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart (Ultimix) Emanating from the artistic hub that was New York City, Deee-Lite's "Groove Is In The Heart" blasted through the airwaves, gaining traction in 1990. While Nelson Mandela was freed that same year, signaling the end of apartheid, "Groove Is In The Heart" became an anthem for personal liberation on dance floors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J22gr56fl4 Livin' Joy - Dreamer (Junior Vasquez Sound Factory Mix) It was 1994, the year the U.S. hosted its first FIFA World Cup, when Livin' Joy dropped "Dreamer," capturing the blissful ignorance and idealism coursing through society. Junior Vasquez's Sound Factory Mix added a touch of urbane sophistication to this naive optimism. Billie Ray Martin - Your Loving Arms (Soundfactory Vocal Mix) "Your Loving Arms" by Billie Ray Martin wove its musical threads into the fabric of 1995. As the Dayton Agreement was being signed, bringing a tenuous peace to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Martin's soulful rendition stood as a testament to the healing power of music, amplified by the Junior Vasquez Soundfactory Vocal Mix. Bizarre Inc. feat. Angie Brown - I'm Gonna Get You (Original Flavour Mix) If there was a single word to describe 1992, it would be 'transformational', from Bill Clinton's electoral victory to the commercial release of the first Nicotine patch. "I'm Gonna Get You" by Bizarre Inc. featuring Angie Brown, invigorated clubs, proving that house could be as politically assertive as it was catchy. Tori Amos - Professional Widow (Armand Van Helden's Star Trunk Mix) Fast forward to 1996, the year that saw the introduction of the DVD format. Armand Van Helden transformed Tori Amos's "Professional Widow" into a garage house phenomenon, highlighting how technology and art could marry into something ground-breaking. Inner City - Good Life (Magic Juan's Mix) In 1988, right at the threshold of the 90s, Inner City released "Good Life." This track embodied the universal desire for happiness and freedom, perfectly encapsulated in Magic Juan's Mix. The song has become a staple in 90s Classic House Music and frequently sampled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Moving along to the 4th installment of the BPM Edition 2009 v1, you'll notice that the mix picks up where the 3rd one left off. It starts off with some deep and dark progressive tunes before we jump back into the electro. You might also want to take note of two remakes in this mix. First up is "Send Me An Angel" by Lovematic feat. Sharon May Linn. This is a remake of the 80's classic by Real Life. There are a variety of mixes that accompany this set and one even mimics the original while updating the synth riff for today's floors. While it's not bad, I had a hard time swallowing it given the female voice as opposed to the original male vocals. It's hard to listen to a remake of such a massive classic as this without cringing. Digging into the mixes I finally settled on the Fratty & Burra Club Mix which retains the original melody but uses it in ways never considered before. For that, I applaud their originality and slapped on four stars to show my approval. Then we have a remake of "Your Loving Arms" by Jose Amnesia vs. Karen Overton. Of course the original was done by Billie Ray Martin in the mid-nineties. This song has deep meaning to me and once again I was skeptical. After listening to it, I was completely immersed in the song with its trance-like synths swirling around my head. While nothing will ever match the magic of the original, this sure comes close. As for Billie Ray, I've got a new mix of the very same song that I'll probably drop in on next week's "Winter Edition". I understand she's working on some new material scheduled for release later this year. I also have another 90's classic remake slated for the final volume and will go into detail about that on Friday. I also wanted to mention the Ting Tings latest offering. "Fruit Machine" must be like their gazillionth single from their "We Started Nothing" debut. Jam-packed with all sorts of electro-pop goodness, each song has been remixed to great effect by some of today's hottest producers. I don't just love the remixes, but the album as well. Before all is said and done, we may end up with another batch of mixes for "We Walk". Currently, they are scheduled to write and record a new album in Paris and Berlin. If they can keep this up, they deserve every bit of success that has come their way. Outstanding! You may also be scratching your head and wondering "what is that bleached bottled blond thinking?" Lily Allen's "Fear" was already on take one. Glad you asked. I absolutely adore this song. Wideboys and Stonebridge did a fabulous job of re-creating what was a rather ho-hum pop song and transforming it into something meaningful. Th lyrics alone are worth the price of admission but coupled with these awesome dancefloor interpretations, bring the song to life. While I don't expect this song to become some worldwide dance hit, every once in a while there's a song that just demands attention, and this is one such moment. "I want to be rich and I want lots of money I don't care about clever I don't care about funny I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds I heard people die while they are trying to find them I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless 'Cuz everyone knows that's how you get famous I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner I don't know what's right and what's real anymore I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore When do you think it will all become clear? 'Cuz I'm being taken over by The Fear Life's about film stars and less about mothers It's all about fast cars cussing each other But it doesn't matter cause I'm packing plastic and that's what makes my life so fucking fantastic And I am a weapon of massive consumption and its not my fault it's how I'm programmed to function I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror I'm on the right track yeah we're on to a winner I don't know what's right and what's real anymore
