In this episode of the Flourish Academy podcast, host Heather Lahtinen discusses the concept of the Second Arrow, a Buddhist parable about dealing with suffering more skillfully. She explains that anytime we suffer misfortune, two arrows fly our way. The first arrow represents the actual bad event or circumstance, which can cause pain, but the second arrow represents our reaction to the bad event. The second arrow is optional, and it's the manner in which we choose to respond emotionally. Heather shares a personal experience where she was presented with the opportunity to practice these new skills. Her son's school was locked down because of a call reporting an active shooter, which turned out to be a hoax. Heather processed her emotions and avoided the second arrow by refraining from letting her thoughts get away from her. She shares that we can avoid the second arrow by noticing our emotional reaction, catching ourselves adding more pain and suffering, and giving ourselves credit for recognizing and avoiding the second arrow. Finally, Heather encourages listeners to apply the concept of the Second Arrow to situations in their own lives and to avoid dwelling on things that aren't worthy of their attention or focus. Dana Harvey is the founder and facilitator of the flourish Academy and a guest speaker on women in Psychedelics at the upcoming Rising Consciousness Conference March 9-11 in Salt lake City Utah. Dana is a micro-dose educator and guide with 20 years of experience in supporting high impact leaders to rebalance their lives into authentically fulfilled version of themselves. In this episode Dana shares her story from a top CCO to the vast opening of engagement in her own heart center. We speak about women, empowerment, and leadership in psychedelics today. Dana Harvey, founder of The Flourish Academy, psychedelics and microdosing educator and guide, knows how it can feel to “look” like you have everything going for you on the outside, but to “feel” unfulfilled, disconnected, and not living in alignment with your heart on the inside. She's been there. But, her work with plant medicine - supported with guidance, education and community - helped her recover her passion for life and the joy in her soul. Dana particularly loves supporting leaders - entrepreneurs, CEOs, founders, community leaders - because they often face a particular type of challenge at the top and, having come from that background, Dana can relate. She also knows the ripple effect that can to spread to so many others when leaders are able to heal, grow, and feel whole. Dana is also passionate about serving women. She knows plant medicines can have profound effects on women's relationships with their bodies, hormonal issues, and related mental health issues. Coming from a background of male dominated industries and smashing glass ceilings in leadership of other women, Dana supported women for many years, even co-founding a non-profit organization, the Women's Collaborative Hub. Catch Dana and her community of 1000+ every Wednesday (Cannabis, Entheogens + Women's Wellness), Thursday (Psychedelic Microdosing 101) and Friday (Psychedelics 101) in The Flourish Academy's rooms on Clubhouse.
