Have you ever felt like your message just isn't landing? You're posting on Instagram, writing emails, updating your website, maybe even blogging or running ads, but the response isn't what you'd hoped for. When someone does reach out, they're unsure, vague, and often just asking, “How much do you charge?” before disappearing. If this sounds familiar, it might be a messaging clarity issue. In this episode, I dive into why not having a niche, or having one that is too broad or not in demand, could be the reason your business feels stuck. I share my story of starting out as a general paediatric dietitian, what changed when I finally niched down, and how you can apply those same steps to get unstuck in your own business.Episode SummaryIn this episode, I tackle the fear of niching down and why it is the key to clarity, connection, and a thriving business. I talk about how staying broad can keep you blurry and why specificity in your messaging is what makes your dream clients say, “Yes, that is me.”I share my journey from being a jack-of-all-trades paediatric dietitian to becoming the go-to expert for fussy eaters, and how that decision transformed my business. I also walk you through the five steps to finding your niche:Identifying who you get the best results for.Pinpointing the specific problem you solve.Understanding their audience and emotional needs.Checking for demand in the market.Declaring and owning your niche with confidence. If you have been stuck in generalist limbo, this episode will give you the tools to finally niche down and create a business that flows with ease.Key TakeawaysSpecificity is key: Broad messaging keeps you blurry, while clear and specific messaging makes you unforgettable.Fear of niching is normal: It is not about locking yourself in a box, but about choosing a direction and building clarity.Solve urgent problems: Focus on bleeding neck problems, not stubbed toes.Know your audience deeply: Understand their daily lives, secret worries, and what keeps them up at night.Demand matters: A niche is not just about passion, it needs to be something people are willing to pay to fix.Let's take actionTake 10 minutes today to reflect on your niche. Answer these four questions:Who do you get the best results for? What specific problem are they struggling with?Is it an urgent problem or something they can live with? Are people already paying to solve this problem? When you find clarity in your niche, everything elI'd love to hear from you, click the link to 'text' the show directly Mindset Programme Waitlist: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/mindset-waitlist Freedom Formula: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/freedom-formula Website: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dietitiansinbusiness/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dietitiansinbusinessYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@BeyondTheClinicPodcast The Master Plan - Discover the 22 steps you need to take (in the right order) to build a successful business so you can earn enough to live the freedom lifestyle you dream of. https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/master-plan
Feeding children can feel like a minefield. When should you start weaning, what should you start with, how to handle fussy eaters, and whether certain foods should be avoided altogether? Something a majority of parents are faced with at some point during their children's life is picky eating. Here to provide some much need light on the issue is Louise Lennox an accredited fussy eating expert and runs a course called Picky Eaters Mealtime Makeover.Louise has work as a TV chef and food writer – she was a favourite on RTÉ's The Restaurant as a pastry chef – but for years, she's been training and specialising in what she describes as her real purpose in life, to help empower parents at the table. Her son Alex's refusal to eat as a young child, quite simply, broke her heart. At one point, there were just ten foods in total that he would eat. Desperate to understand more about why some children refuse to eat, Louise went to the US and trained with the world's leading pediatricians in children's feeding disorders and her mind was blown.Follow her @louiselennox
In this episode, we're diving into the art of making packed lunches that your child will eat, enjoy, and benefit from nutritionally. Whether you're packing lunches to avoid school dinner anxiety, due to allergies or religious reasons, or simply because you believe you can do better than what's on offer in the school hall, this episode is packed (pun intended!) with tips to make the process easier and healthier. We'll cover: Why balanced lunches matter Practical ways to make lunch a success, not a battle Simple swaps and small tricks to improve variety and nutrition. Remember, feeding kids is a marathon, not a sprint. Packed lunches don't have to be Instagram perfect — small, manageable changes add up over time. "My relationship with food is incredibly complex. I hate food that is unpredictable."In this episode of the Neurodivergent Experience, Jordan James and Simon Scott discuss their complex relationships with food. They share their experiences with 'fussy' eating, body dysmorphia, and trauma-related food aversions. They also talk about the impact of neurodivergent traits on their eating habits, such as demand avoidance and hypersensitivity. They highlight the unpredictability of food textures and flavours for neurodivergent people and the preference for routine and familiarity.TakeawaysNeurodivergent individuals often have complex relationships with food, influenced by factors such as picky eating, body dysmorphia, and trauma-related aversions.Neurodivergent traits, such as demand avoidance and hypersensitivity, can impact eating habits and food preferences.Childhood experiences with food, including restrictions and negative associations, can shape an individual's relationship with food as an adult.Developing a healthier relationship with food may involve exploring new flavours, managing sensory sensitivities, and addressing underlying emotional issues. It is important to be mindful of how we talk about food and body image, avoiding negative language and promoting self-acceptance as understanding and supporting neurodivergent individuals' unique food preferences and challenges can promote their overall well-being.Parents should avoid labelling their children as 'fussy eaters' and instead create a positive and supportive environment to encourage trying new foods.Chapters00:00 RTN Sponsor01:43 The Complexity of Neurodivergent Relationships with Food06:26 Childhood Experiences and Food Challenges09:20 Food as Comfort and Trauma Response13:15 Struggles with Eating and Starvation25:15 Negative Associations and Social Exclusion27:10 Conclusion and Support for Neurodivergent Food Preferences32:10 Navigating Unpredictability: Food Textures and Flavours for Neurodivergent People45:06 Childhood Memories and Associations with Food50:42 Supporting Neurodivergent Children in Developing Healthy Eating Habits52:09 The Impact of Food on Neurodivergent Individuals' Cognitive Abilities53:07 Promoting Positive Body Image and Mindful Eating for Neurodivergent IndividualsGet an Autism and ADHD assessment in the UK with https://www.rtnmentalhealthsolutions.com/ Use the Discount Code RTN23 when you make your initial enquiry through the RTN website or the website portal.Instagram: @theneurodivergentexperiencepodFacebook: The Neurodivergent ExperienceYouTube: @TheNeurodivergentExperience Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Fussy eating is very common in young children and peaks around the age of 3. Fussy, picky, selective, or choosy eating refers to an unwillingness to eat familiar or new foods, and a lack of diet variety – typically less than 20 different foods in your child's diet. This can be a huge stress for parents because if the fussiness persists, it can lead to poor growth and development, nutrient deficiencies, and constipation. Plus it's really annoying. The literature shows that almost half of all children will go through a fussy eating period and it's a normal stage of development. Most kids are selective eaters. And if you think about it, it makes perfect sense, because it's this food “fussiness” that ensured the survival of our ancestors, thousands of years ago. We sought out foods high in sugar and fat as these foods gave us best bang for our buck during times of food scarcity. And we rejected unfamiliar foods and bitter flavours - such as vegetables - to avoid ingestion of potential toxins. Over time, our genes haven't changed, but the food environment has. Now we're spoilt for choice – you can find your favourite foods on every block and our kids scream out for the stuff. But as the studies show, while the genes that determine food fussiness have been passed on from our ancestors, it's not our fate, and there's some simple tips to deal with our kids unwillingness to eat new foods. Every parent deals with fussy eaters and faces the problem of figuring out what to feed their youngest child, so in today's episode we have the founder of Mummy Cooks and author of “Mummy Cooks Baby and Family Recipe Book; Cook for Family, Adapt for Baby,” Siobhan Berry. She tells us what her meal plan is for her own baby and how we can avoid spoiling our baby, keeping things simple and giving them good foods that they can eat and slowly introducing more solid foods. We follow this with what babies drink and Siobhan suggests drinking from the tap, but if you live in an area that doesn't have good tap water, boil your water and have them drink it that way. Feeding picky eaters is one of the most common challenges that parents can face. It can make mealtimes a nightmare, but it can also raise concerns about whether your fussy eater is getting enough nutrients. In this week's episode we are focusing on one of my favourite strategies when it comes to fussy eating which is, adding nutrition into the food that your kids already enjoy. This is important because fussy eaters generally prefer bland carbohydrates and processed foods, which tend to be low in nutrients so fussy eaters can quickly become deficient in essential nutrients. This becomes a perpetuating problem because these deficiencies can make their fussy eating even worse. So we want to focus on getting as much nutrition in as possible and today I am going to be sharing some practical tips on how you can do this including:> Ways that you can get more nutrition into your fussy eaters at breakfast, mealtimes and in snacks> The importance of starting with foods that your fussy eater already enjoys and building nutrition into those dishes and foods> How to get more veggies into the veggie adverse kids and why this is important> How you can get more protein into those kids that don't tend to like meat and other protein sources > The importance of making sure that we are giving kids that have sensory issues the texture they prefer when it comes to healthy and wholefoodsRemember, a picky eater doesn't necessarily hate a particular food in every form. By changing the texture, flavour and/or presentation, you might make them a fan of that food! Most kids won't like steamed broccoli, but they might enjoy broccoli soup or even dehydrated broccoli chips. When you're struggling to include a food, ask yourself ‘what else can I try with this ingredient?I would love to know how you go with the tips above and if they helped. Send me a message via Instagram or Facebook, I would love to hear from you.
