It's particularly significant given he wasn't even selected in this season's All-Australian team. We spoke with AFL commentator Ben Cameron to understand what the 2023 count tells us about Neale, the way the competition is judged and who might dominate in the seasons ahead. Patricia Highsmith was the brilliant, but notoriously prickly best-selling author of many psychological thrillers - including Strangers on a Train - adapted for screen most famously by Alfred Hitchcock - and her Ripliad series sparked by her novel The Talented Mr Ripley. A play imagining the her last few months living as a recluse in Switzerland sees a young man arrive at her door to convince her to pen a last Ripley book. But the reclusive author is living with lung cancer, done with the literary establishment and not inclined to oblige. And thus the scene is set for the play Switzerland, which is being performed by The Auckland Theatre Company, with Kiwi actor Sarah Peirse as Patricia Highsmith. Sarah Goodes directed the play's debut in Sydney back in 2014 and is bringing it to the stage in Auckland from September 19.

It's been ten years since a teenager racially vilified AFL star Adam Goodes while he was playing on the MCG. We find ourselves in painfully familiar territory after claims Indigenous South Sydney star Latrell Mitchell was abused in the NRL, so how might the sporting community approach it this time round? Today, Patrick Stack speaks with proud Gomeroi man and NRL reporter Jake Duke on a precarious story. Featured: Jake Duke, NRL reporter, Fox League. Kym Goodes is the principal of 3P, and is recognised as one of the foremost public voices in Tasmania. She has over two decades of experience working in government and the not-for-profit sector in social and economic public policy fields as diverse as education, employment, transport, energy, digital inclusion, health, housing and human services. Kym and the 3P team specialise in social impact assessment, social licence to operate and corporate social responsibility - bringing together her expertise in social and economic policy. In today's episode, Kym and TICT's Luke Martin discuss the potential for Tasmania's tourism industry to make a positive impact, by being a collective of corporate citizens that leaves behind a good footprint. With the recent and exponential elevation of brand Tasmania on the international stage, the state's tourism industry now has a compelling opportunity to ensure it is thinking responsibly, holistically and collaboratively. Kym sets out some of the critical measures of best practice, so that individual operators - as well as whole communities - can begin to understand their current position as corporate citizens and set goals for the future. Kym describes a sweet spot between social and economic development that balances commercial success with happy communities, and unpacks the five key areas of social licence that create good legacy. While being good for your community won't happen incidentally, there are simple steps every business can take to set positive intent with big impact. Today's episode is brought to you by our partner, Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service. PWS presents, protects and manages our Tasmania's extraordinary landscapes in partnership with the community. They work to conserve the State's natural and cultural heritage while providing for sustainable use and economic opportunities for the Tasmanian community. Thanks to Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service for their generous support of TICT and for helping to make this episode of Talking Tourism possible.
This week we look at all the things we didn't have time for. For starters, the Wiembilla situation is developing daily and it's hard to keep on top of. We hope that we can have a fairly definitive take on it in a few weeks, but here's a few clarifying points with new information that came to light this week. We laugh at Monica Smit because she is an idiot, but also give credit where it's due for a recent win in court - with a judge recognising one of her health order violations may have been invalid. It appears that will hinge on Monica being a journalist. But is she? Probably not. A listener gives us a heads up on a Glew situation which might be very funny in the future. Soli Goodes is back in front of the courts and singing the praises of the Train family for gunning down cops because she is an awful human being. She doesn't look well though. Kinda feel sorry for her. And lastly Tom Sewell is looking at jail - but got bail! Why? I don't feel sorry for him at all. He is a piece of human garbage.

Q&A with director Daniel Gordon, writer Stan Grant and Australian Football League player Adam Goodes exploring Goodes' remarkable and inspirational story, and the deeper, more powerful themes of race, identity and belonging. With Mariayah Kaderbhai.
Adam Goodes is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Widely considered to be a legend, Goodes holds an elite place in AFL history as a dual Brownlow Medallist, dual premiership player, four-time All-Australian, member of the Indigenous Team of the Century and representative of Australia in the International Rules Series. Mr. Goodes impact, however, goes beyond the football field - he is also well known for his community work. He is currently the CEO of the Indigenous Defence & Infrastructure Consortium (iDiC) and the co-founder of the GO Foundation. In 2014, he was recognized as Australian of the Year because of his antiracism advocacy and support of Indigenous sporting and community programs. In this episode of the Search for Racial Equity, Adam Goodes sits down with Dr. Kamau Bobb, Google's Global Lead for Diversity Strategy, to discuss the importance of celebrating his Aboriginal heritage and his experiences as a black man in Australia. The Search for Racial Equity Series is a global forum offering an in depth study and dialog of racial equity and justice, through forthright discussion and a syllabus that intends to amplify the most authentic and powerful voices of our time and of this movement. We aim to create safe spaces for the most important and authentic discussions. See more videos like this via http://g.co/TalksAtGoogle/RacialEquity #RacialEquity #AdamGoodes

It's time for us to recharge. I have been listening to you #SpeakEasy listeners and you are ready to get back on track in life and business. This is the episode for you. Where do we get a new battery pack? Where do we get what the Energizer bunny has? How do we get that with everything that has been going on in 2020? We are going to dig deep into what that recharge looks like and some of you... it's going to hurt a little bit because some of you will need to unplug from something. Yup, unplug from the news, social media, and yes even some people. It's time to start feeling good again starting from the inside out. Life can become cumbersome at times and makes us anxious. This is the moment when you need to plan your escape. Now, we are not saying run away from your problems but you must find a place that allows you to shut it off. What does that mean? That means a moment to do absolutely nothing. Just be a bump on the log and it's okay to just sit there and do nothing. You know, what that does that refreshes you, that reboots your mind, your body, and your spirit. Could you sit still for 60 seconds? No fidgeting and no looking at your phone. (Many can not) For Dr. Chere, it is not a matter of the time you use to recharge that matters the most. The most important parts of recharging are what you do and are they working for you. Anything from putting on a full face of makeup to taking a much-needed nap can recharge you. There will be some who need to recharge their body through better nutrition. Eating healthier options will often give a natural boost of energy. This is self-care and you need to ask yourself a few questions. Does it make you feel good?Does it make you feel whole? How often do you need to do this? When is the best time for you to do this? Where can you do this uninterrupted? Are you dealing with false sensations? In this episode, Dr. Chere discussed not just the false sensations we may get from some of the foods that we eat but also the false sensations we get from people and certain scenarios in our lives. That temporary high and drop can drain us as entrepreneurs. A relationship, contract, or even a conversation that creates this feeling is a dangerous one. Often times we allow what haunts us to hurt us. Dr. Chere's gems:1. Be okay with walking away 2. Fill your cup3. Get moving 4. Take responsibility 5. In this episode of the Refuse to Lose Podcast, for the first we are stepping outside Rugby League and I couldn’t think of a better guy to do it with then Kieran Jack. Kieren is a former captain of the Sydney Swans who played 256 games in the AFL. But he is so much more than just an athlete. In this episode Kieren touches on his early life growing up as the son of a Balmain Tigers legend. He touches on his transition into the AFL and how he turned himself from a draft reject into a premiership winning superstar who played in three grand finals. He also lifts the lid on the entire Adam Goodes booing saga for the very first time. Giving an insight in to what it was like to be a teammate of Adam’s during the AFL’s darkest days. He talks about the anger, the confusion and the great sorrow it caused him and how he still looks back on what he could have done differently at the time.Kieren also talks about retirement and how it’s allowed him to throw himself into community work and help him become an advocate for a number of important issues. I’ve done a lot of sports interviews for my job and this is seriously one of the most honest, intellectual and eye opening conversations I’ve ever had. There is also some great locker room stories ranging from the Dalai Lama, to toothbrushes. Please enjoy my chat with Kieren jack.

Eddie Betts on learning from Adam Goodes, the raw emotion of leaving clubs, the joy of footy and his incredible journey from illiterate draftee to Aboriginal community leader.
Adam Goodes is one of the true gentleman of Australian sport. His genuine character and desire to make our country better shines through in every action. Adam had a long career as one of the best Australian Rules footballers of his generation, won the Brownlow as best in the game a couple of times, two premierships, four time All-Australian, Indigenous team of the century, the list goes on. He did alright on the field but his actions off the field are his ongoing legacy. A cracking yarn.

The past week's news centered on various individual public figures. We go through the newsmakers with Senior Editor of The Unshackled Damien Ferri. The UK has a new Prime Minister after the members of the Conservative Party elected by a margin of 2-1 Boris Johnson as their new leader to replace Theresa May. There is now a lot of optimism that as a Brexit supporter he can deliver what the British people voted for in 2016 and the UK can leave the European Union by October 31st. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern visited Australia last week to give a speech at Melbourne's Town Hall on Good Governance and met with Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews to discuss her wellness budget. But Ardern failed in her diplomatic mission with the Morrison government not backing down on its policy of deporting New Zealand born criminals from Australia. The Adam Goodes Documentary the Final Quarter about the booing saga in the final years of his career premiered on Network 10 last week. The media narrative now is that the booing was racially motivated but that is only because Goodes, once he becomes Australian of the Year labelled Australia as racist. This led to resentment from AFL fans and the booing began. Masterchef Judge George Calombaris has admitted to underpaying workers at his chain of restaurants to the tune of $7.83m. He was fined $200,000 by Fair Work. There was a lot of pressure on Network Ten to sack him from the show but in the end, all judges are leaving the show because ironically, they believed they weren't being paid enough despite being on million dollars salaries. This week the Aborigine Australian Rules star Adam Goodes, decided against walking away from the game he loves, having endured weeks of racial abuse at the hands of some opposing fans. It’s not the first time that the sport has been at the forefront of the countries debate on integration. In 1993, whilst playing for St Kilda, Nicky Winmar responded to similar racial abuse by raising his shirt and pointing to his skin. The photograph is an iconic image in Australian sporting history. But has anything really changed in those 22 years? Don’t Ban Drugs… Embrace Them! With more allegations and strenuous denials dominating the world of athletics, we ask if sport would be better off if performance enhancing drugs were regulated, as opposed to banned. Remembering Natalia Natalia Molchanova, widely regarded as the greatest free diver in history is feared to have died diving off the coast of Spain. We speak to William Truebridge, the current world champion and double world record holder, about Natalia’s life and legacy. Somali Surfs Up! We hear from Denmark’s Jacob Sorensen who is in the middle of attempting to kite surf over 1000km of the African east coast including parts of Somali and all the dangers that brings. As Bronwyn Bishop steps dpown as speaker of the house, Australia needs to look to the UK to see how to do political scandals properly. In this episode we get our boot scooting boots on and dance around the issues of round 18. Is Damien Hardwick the Paul Westhead of the AFL? Brisbane get slapped around like a Mayweather harlot. We consider if Jack Watts has found his true calling as a coach, and if the Dees are over young gun prodigies just as they've found a legit candidate. Sydney sink the boots into a disappointing Crows side, who failed to fire for Tex's 100th. Brenton tries out the Goodes dance on a couple of famous Melbourne D-Floors. Norf have a 10 goal win over Carlton. I'm sure something else happened in that game, but like you I was watching the battle of the Coasts. We have a battle of the coasts. Port have a much needed win with some stars coming good, while we back the Saints for one or two more fan boosting wins before the seasons done. The Bombers get bent over for a doggystle rogering. And GWS and Freo round out our weekend of crepe umpiring decisions. Oh yeah, in case the umpires couldn't quite hear Leon Cameron... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Extra Time is in Melbourne Australia and if there's one sport which can uniquely claim to be home-grown it is Australian rules football, a high octane mixture of running, kicking and sometimes brutal mid-air collisions. One of the game's greatest players is Adam Goodes, who is much more than just a sportsman. He's of Aboriginal heritage and is the 2014 Australian of the Year – an award recognising not only his sporting talent but his public stand against racism, which was epitomised in 2013 when during a match at the MCG a teenage girl called Goodes an ape. He had her kicked out of the stadium and not for the first time racism in sport and society was at the centre of national debate In Australia. Now as Adam Goodes nears the end of his sporting career is he about to enter a new one as a politician?
