Liz Cheney (R-WY) to serve in the role. A federal judge in Texas ruled Thursday evening that President Joe Biden's student loan bailout is illegal, dealing a massive blow to the administration. No one likes to believe they would be on the wrong side of history. Most of us prefer to think that in times of crisis, we would do the right thing -- we wouldn’t be complicit in evil. Yet every day, individuals just doing their jobs make decisions that harm people. And when many members of an organization make many small, harmful decisions, that builds up. Professor Ashley Nickels lays out how organizational decisions and structures can lead to real acts of evil that harm individuals and whole communities, how this played out in Flint, Michigan, and what can be done to prevent tragedy before it strikes. He's set to return, courtesy of Adams and artist Dan Cornwell, in a new series this year and Adams reveals his thoughts on getting the voice right for one of Wagner and Grant's maddest characters and how the episodic nature of 2000 AD strips has affected his writing style. Peaty's Skip Tracer is now in its third series and he chats about how the strip came to be before discussing his new up-coming series for the Judge Dredd Megazine - Diamond Dogs. On Decision Making In Public Service: An Introduction

Public Problems

“Welcome to the, Decision Making in Public Service course. My name is Justin Bullock and I will be the professor for this course I have been very much looking forward to this course and preparing these lectures. Decision making is a topic that I have been fascinated with since grad school and up through my latest research in artificial intelligence. How and why decisions are made and how this process impacts public service and public servants While I will give you a broad introduction lecture at the beginning of this course, much of the content of the lectures will be wrestling with and discussing the material from the four books that have been selected for this course. These four books are also used to broadly structure the course. The first book that we will cover is Thomas Metzinger’s The Ego Tunnel: The Science of the Mind and the Myth of the Self. I would also recommend Ray Kurzweil’s How to create a mind: the secret of human thought revealed. Your brain structures your mind and who you identify yourself and how you make decisions, so we begin with developing a better understanding of what neuroscience and philosophy have to tell us about us, the individual decision maker. We move from here to an extended treatment of Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow. It is here where the worlds of economics, psychology, and decision-making crash into one another. Daniel Kahneman is a Nobel prize winning economist and does a wonderful job conveying much of his life’s work in this wonderful book. You will be introduced to system I and system II thinking, how systematically irrational and biased we are, how this has consequences for decision making, and much much more From here we incorporate machines into the decision-making conversation, as machine intelligence or artificial intelligence has continued to develop and substitute for human intelligence. For this treatment, we will read Nick Bostrom’s book Superintelligence, which is a serious treatise on the decision-making space and how artificial intelligence performs in comparison to human intelligence and what that looks like. I will also pull from some of my own work with co-authors on this topic and how it influences public service decision making Finally, we turn to the concept of administrative evil, and here we turn from individual behavior or market behavior to more specifically some of the factors or organizations that lead them to engage in behavior that needlessly harms people, or as Danny Balfour and Guy Adams put it in their book, administrative evil. This concept looks at how some of the factors that influence individual decision making can be broadly influence by professional norms, tribal identities, and dehumanization. It is at this level, that the role of decision making becomes unmistakably important in the delivery of public services I intend to publish a lecture just before each class. For those of you taking the course, the expectation is that you listen to the lecture before class and come prepared to discuss the content along with the assigned readings for class that week. For those of you following along who are not taking the course. I hope you enjoy the content as well! I will be publishing the first lecture on decision making which will be called Decision Making: Basic Concepts later this week. For the in-person students, you will need to listen to this as well before our first class. My general plan moving forward is to release the lecture on Sundays. I hope you enjoy the lectures on decision making! Thanks for your time. “

If we each give ONE DOLLAR (for real), it's goal met and doubled. ONE DOLLAR today from each of us gives books to a lot of kids for FIVE YEARS. Wanna get in on this with us??? $1, $5, $100, or drop the whole $13K! :)  www.christianapp.org/anniefdowns (And we've got some super fun plans once we surpass the $13,000.... we'll keep you updated about that...) Hopefully, the one that drops them into the rabbit hole of Doctor Who on audio."   "David Tennant, Billie Piper, and Camille Coduri bounced off each other so effortlessly that it’s like they’ve never been away."   "More than a decade on, this volume recaptures the wit and the pace of the Tennant/Piper pairing and both seem to slot happily back in their roles."  2.1 Infamy of the Zaross by John Dorney When Jackie Tyler takes an away day to visit her old friend Marge in Norwich, she finds her holiday immediately interrupted in the worst way possible - an alien invasion! The infamous Zaross have come to take over the Earth. Or have they? After Jackie calls in the Doctor and Rose to deal with the menace, it soon becomes clear that this is a very unusual invasion indeed. The Doctor is about to uncover one of the most heinous crimes in the history of the galaxy. And if he can't stop it an awful lot of people are going to die. 2.2 The Sword of the Chevalier by Guy Adams 1791 and the Doctor and Rose get to meet one of the most enigmatic, thrilling and important people in history: The Chevalier d’Eon. She used to be known as a spy, but then she used to be known as a lot of things. If there’s one thing the Doctor knows it’s that identity is what you make it. Choose a life for yourself and be proud. Mind you, if the Consortium of the Obsidian Asp get their way, all lives may soon be over... 2.3 Cold Vengeance by Matt Fitton The TARDIS arrives on Coldstar, a vast freezer satellite, packed with supplies to feed a colony world. But there are cracks in the ice, and something scuttles under the floors. Soon, Rose and the Doctor encounter robots, space pirates and... refuse collectors. As Coldstar's tunnels begin to melt, an even greater threat stirs within. An old enemy of the Doctor puts a plan into action - a plan for retribution. Nobody's vengeance is colder than an Ice Warrior's. On a fan frenzy edition of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — we analyze Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things with Guy Adams, author of Notes From the Upside Down: An Unofficial Guide to Stranger Things. We talk with Guy Top of hour 2; Hour 1, Joel and Eric review the week’s most edifying paranormal news from the America’s Most Haunted Twitter feed. Stranger Things Season Two is on its way to Netflix — finally — on October 27. The first season of “Stranger Things” was released in July 2016, and within a month it became the third most-watched season of Netflix original content of all time. Set in the ’80s Indiana, a mysterious girl named Eleven shows up and the search is on for a little boy named Will who has vanished into thin air. What happened to him and the identity of Eleven are the main themes of the first season of a show that continues to dominate pop culture — from star treatment for the young actors, to fans picking over every frame of the Season Two trailer, to intricate theories about what’s to come — as viewers not-so-patiently wait for the next season to be released. Fortunately, Guy Adams’ extraordinarily informative and cheeky Notes From the Upside Down: An Unofficial Guide to Stranger Things is here to make the wait, if not shorter, then at least far more entertaining. Jump inside the world of Stranger Things, from the origins of the creepy premise and (endless) child actor auditions, to how the mind-bending music was composed. Author Guy Adams illustrates how the Duffer Brothers wove techniques and references from all the best thriller, horror, and paranormal entertainment into the now-iconic series. Notes from the Upside Down shares all the subtle references to media like The Twilight Zone, Knight Rider, Jaws, Carl Sagan, and many, many more? that you might have missed. If you’ve ever wonde

Episode 38 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the trio of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) and Legeon (@legeonhenderson) reunite for a unique  and an amazingly fun podcast.  People were talked over, voices were loud, agreements were not made across the board, but we think you'll agree, this is a great episode of the Alhambra Podcast. We start and stop the podcast with Doctor Who and Big Finish news, thanks to www.doctorwhonews.net for the up to date DW news! We discuss the revealed titles and authors for series 10 of the new series of Doctor Who.  Then we discuss Adric's return for 2017 and the reveal of Big Finish's Novel Adaption of Cold Fusion, which will feature the 5th Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan, Adric, 7th Doctor, Chris Cwej, and Ross Forester.  We transition to possible adaptations like Lungbarrow, but continuity of the Virgin range is brought up.  So we use a segment of an interview from Gallifrey Stands Podcast. featuring the Doctor Squee and Paul Cornell.    Thanks to @DoctorSquee for the use of his interview with Paul Cornell. The full episode can be found on the Gallifrey Stands Podcast on PodBeam.  Click the link to listen to the full episode of this fantastic podcast.  http://gallifreystandspodcast.podbean.com/e/gallifrey-stands-ep57-the-new-adventures-of-paul-cornell/   Once we finally get to the reviews (around minute 20 or so after our nice on and off topic discussion), we begin with the Big Finish Main Range release #213, The Two Masters, written by John Dorney and starring Geoffrey Beevers and Alex Macqueen as the Master, Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor.  Hijinks ensues during our reviews of the main range as well as the Fourth Doctor Adventure, #5.06, The Trouble With Drax. Next, we move onto the Companion Chronicles series 10, The Second Doctor Volume 1 box set, with four great stories featuring Ben, Polly, Jamie, Victoria, and Zoe.  We compare this release with the First Doctor release from last June.  From Doctor Who to the spin-offs, we first look at Torchwood #2.4, Moving Target, written by Guy Adams and starring Indira Varma as Suzie Costello, followed by Torchwood: Shutdown, starring Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver, featuring the writing of Matt Fitton and Andrew Smith.  Our non-Doctor Who reviews begin with Liam waxing poetic on Dark Shadows 50th Anniversary full cast audio Blood and Fire and the short story Echoes of the Past. We finish June's Big Finish releases by reviewing series 4 of the classic British TV program, Terry Nation's Survivors, Ken Bentley, Louise Jameson, Christopher Hatherall, and Matt Fitton, pen this amazing four part story, bringing us back to day one of the outbreak, with the point of view of the high class, Parliament and British Prime Minister, then a nice but odd utopian community. We end with Legeon sharing his new audio love, Spiteful Puppet Productions.  He's previously mentioned the Hood range, however now shares his enjoyment of Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse. Stay tuned past the legal stuff to listen to a minute sample of Robin of Sherwood: The Knights of the Apocalypse. Here's a link to Spiteful Puppet productions. https://www.spitefulpuppet.com/shopp.php Audio Only Review list - Spearhead from Space (recorded, post-production needed); The Web Planet (recorded, post-production needed); Dragonfire (to be recorded in July); The Power of Kroll (to be recorded in August); finally The Daemons (to be recorded in September).  Please stay tuned for those releases, and further releases when we focus merely on the strength of the story and storytelling, and ignore the visuals.   Please email the show at: alhambraaudio@gmail.com Tweet the show: @AlhambraPodcast or @djNezumi or @Mavic_Chen Visit our website: AlhambraPodcast.weebly.com
