CFO Thought Leader

CFO Thought Leader

When Peloton's stock debuted in 2019, CFO Jill Woodworth believed the playbook was air‑tight. She had shifted fiscal calendars, re‑segmented reporting and shaped statements that “tell a story,” she tells us. Then COVID hit. Orders “flew nine‑fold overnight,” marketing was switched off, and customer focus narrowed to a single metric: getting bikes from order to doorstep. Wait times ballooned to “four or five months,” but earlier bets—a vertically integrated Taiwanese factory and Peloton‑owned delivery crews—proved “fortuitous,” enabling a sprint to drive delivery toward one week. When demand fell just as quickly, Woodworth slashed the bike's price and led a restructuring that cut “$800 million of costs,” announcing it days after the board replaced the CEO. The lesson, she says, is clear: even elegant models need room for the unimaginable. That conviction now guides her first months at Prenuvo, where a patient can slip into an MRI bore and, under an hour later, leave with a radiologist‑written report on every organ and joint, Woodworth tells us. She is “learning the business” alongside technology, AI and clinical teams, convinced the company holds “so many different ways to grow,” including a new biomarker offering. Finance remains small yet “mighty,” but she will embed analysts so thoroughly that the head of clinical practice “doesn't want to be in a meeting without” them. Acting as co‑pilot to the CEO, she intends to safeguard a balance sheet that grants “every available option” for raising capital—ensuring, this time, finance anticipates both the surge and the calm that follow ahead.

I met Linsey Hurley this past December when we both participate in a Freedom Flash Mob dance event at a local mall. It was a fun and powerful event, a group of locals suddenly bursting into dance and raising awareness of our right to medical freedom! So, I figured the people I met at this event were pretty special. I got a text from Linsey a few weeks ago and we got to chatting. She told me a bit about her business and this new patch she had been guided to that was quite interesting. At that point, I decided to invite her on the podcast to discuss and was quite impressed with what I learned, and the potential of this new tool, X39 patches. Linsey is a holistic health coach, and she has worked with cutting-edge energy healing technologies for many years. She was led to the alternative health field after her experience witnessing her sister go through stage 4 breast cancer within the mainstream health system. Despite her and her sister doing much research and finding alternative treatments which when suggested, were basically brushed off and ignored. This was over 40 years ago. She ultimately lost her sister, and faith in our conventional system, which explains the silver lining. Her sister inspires her and is with her every day and she is grateful for her impact on her life, ultimately pushing Linsey into utilizing and sharing these amazing healing energy devices and tools today! I had the pleasure of interviewing James Davis recently on TSC Talks. As you'll hear in the podcast, we connected a little over a year ago when he was just getting started with Bay Staters for Natural Medicine and looking for volunteers. At that time, I'd been experimenting with microdosing psilocybin for mental health reasons, it was helping, and I thought I'd jump in. Life pulled me away from that volunteer work, but James made a profound impression on me, and I had the notion that he'd be successful in whatever he endeavored, particularly his advocacy around decriminalization of plant entheogens, as his passion, kindness, and honesty just stands out. When we connected to do the podcast, I was not surprised, but also surprised by the progress he and the growing team of volunteers he leads has made over the past year. He hits it home on so many topics within this pod, I thought it best just to include the full transcript. Thanks, James, for showing up, being such a divine-human and inspiring, and leading many to make a difference. Enjoy the pod! Links: https://www.baystatersnm.org/ https://linktr.ee/baystaters https://www.instagram.com/baystaters/ https://www.facebook.com/BayStaters https://twitter.com/baystaters "James Davis is a leader of Bay Staters for Natural Medicine. They have mobilized over a thousand Massachusetts volunteers to decriminalize Somerville, Cambridge, Northampton, and Easthampton and have pending resolutions in Boston, Burlington (VT), Amherst, Worcester, Needham, Salem, and Medford. These resolutions decriminalize growing and selling plants like magic mushrooms, which reduce the risk of opioid addiction 55% after a single experience and have been proven to have statistically significant benefits for PTSD and depression. Their resolutions also end all controlled substance possession arrests, referring people for addiction treatment and committing our cities to invest in these services. In this episode, you will also learn about the other types of entheogenic plants and the power they hold to help us heal” Here's an excerpt from the transcript, the full transcript is available on the website. Here's an excerpt from the transcript, the full transcript is available here~https://tsctalks.com/tsc-talks-james-davis-transcript/ Jill W: [00:00:00] Hello, welcome to TSC talks. Your host, Jill Woodworth. Here. I am so glad to be with James Davis. He is a, he is a volunteer among other things, but my basis of meeting him was a volunteer and the leader of bay Staters for natural medicine. Just to give you a little background here before we get started, I'm going to read this, but. He's done tremendous work. I'm really excited to have him here. And I'll tell you how our paths crossed in a minute, but he's the leader for Bay Staters for natural medicine. They've mobilized over a thousand Massachusetts volunteers to decriminalize Somerville, Cambridge, North Hampton. East Hampton pending resolutions in Boston, Burlington, Vermont Amhurst, Worcester, Needham, Salem, and Medford. These resolutions… resolutions, decriminalize growing and selling plants like magic mushrooms, which reduce the risk of opioid addiction. 55% after a single experience and have been proven to, have [00:01:00] statistically significant benefits for PTSD and depression. The resolutions also end all controlled substance possession arrests, referring people for addiction treatment and committing our cities to invest in these services. Let's see. And your day job, you're a legislative director to, Massachusetts state rep the chairs, the legislator's cannabis committee, and formally did legislative work for the city council of Berkeley. You have a master's degree in public administration from USC and a BA in economics and history from Columbia and your views do not necessarily represent your employer. One thing that I read in what I was researching you a little bit, was your personal connection? Actually, no, I'll let you go into it. So yeah. Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself and about the advocacy work that you're doing and we will roll from. James D: Thanks, James, thank you so much for having me, Jill. I'm really excited to chat and I am really [00:02:00] grateful for the support you showed for bay Staters. When we were just a 10 follower Instagram group. We only started about a year and some months ago. And at that stage, We were just weirdos, emailing our city councils, sharing our stories with plant medicine. We took the philosophy that we didn't need to fundraise a lot of money. We didn't need to even have a website active to just start doing this advocacy work and start speaking from the heart. Enjoy the pod!Links: https://www.baystatersnm.org/ https://linktr.ee/baystaters https://www.instagram.com/baystaters/ https://www.facebook.com/BayStaters https://twitter.com/baystaters "James Davis is a leader of Bay Staters for Natural Medicine. In this episode, you will also learn about the other types of entheogenic plants and the power they hold to help us heal”Here's an excerpt from the transcript, the full transcript is available on the website. Here's an excerpt from the transcript, the full transcript is available here~https://tsctalks.com/tsc-talks-james-davis-transcript/Jill W: [00:00:00] Hello, welcome to TSC talks. And you know, what this has snowballed into is really, really awesome and beautiful and all the lessons we've learned along the way and advocacy. There is always information to which the masses, those affected, and their entire support collective are not privy, which would allow for more light, more ways of figuring out how to genuinely and wholistically find a cure and at least improved quality of life along the way. Scaling up: A podcast to inspire entrepreneurs

The first episode in this mini series is Jill Woodworth, the CFO of Peloton (NASDAQ:PTON). Since 2018, when Jill joined, Peleton has been on a hyper scale journey – she took the reins of the finance function when the business was a private, $200m revenue company. In under 4 years since then, it is now a $4b revenue business listed on the NASDAQ. The next two episodes are moving the spotlight away from the CEO and Founder to their most important partner in the business, the CFO. You can liken the role of the CFO to that of a navigator on a ship – charged with the responsibility of charting the course, tracking the journey and ensuring hazards are avoided along the way. CFO is often the most underestimated piece of the scaling puzzle, and why we felt the need to finally shine a spotlight on them. Jill gives some fascinating views into her transition out of investment banking, scaling her team from 12 to 200, working with a passionate founder, as well as what in her opinion makes for good investor relations. We also traverse the work that goes into preparing a company for an IPO. All these give deeply valuable insights into what it takes to scale quickly and effectively. This mini series was inspired by a blog post that TDM produced last year - “What makes a great CFO” and I hope this podcast episode brings this blog to life. You can follow TDM (linktr.ee/tdmgrowth) and host Ed Cowan (linktr.ee/eddiecowan) across social channels. This is the full-length audio recording of our TSC Talks hosted, Facebook Live conversation on this topic. Brooke Alisha is an adult and parent living with TSC and Jill Woodworth, the host of TSC Talks, is a parent to several offspring living with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. They are talking about the extreme behavioral and mental health challenges of TSC and similar conditions that include a neuropsychiatric component. The weight on the family and ripple effect on relationships can be devastating. Managing care across a lifetime requires exceptional measures of coordination and communication for which parents/families are not prepared. The individual and/or parent/caregiver becomes quite knowledgeable but is put in positions no individual, parent or family should be in making high-level medical decisions on a daily basis in crisis laden situations. Our systems of care have become akin to a "Tower of Babel" and TSC care often exposes these broken and siloed systems. Tuberous Sclerosis Complex is a genetic condition that causes benign tumors to grow in different organs of the body. They also discuss alternative medicine options that they each have utilized and for which they feel strongly can be useful for those living with TSC and other chronic life-threatening conditions. Long term polypharmacy issues are incredible and waiting for pharmaceutical formulations of cannabis is not an option. We are witnessing suffering and mental/physical health issues that can be addressed in part through other modalities. Jill is a strong advocate for affordable access to cannabinoid medicine for those living with TSC, recently launched a product that, while not designed to treat or cure, is made with hemp components, terpenes and early reviews are phenomenal. It is called Forest Bathing and brings the benefits of the forest, to you! In this episode, Mike Robinson, Founder, Global Cannabinoid Research Center, Cannabis Advocate, Cancer Survivor joins Jill Woodworth to discuss his MILLION MILLIGRAM GIVEAWAY of CBD to alleviate the dire need of many within compassion communities affected by coronavirus. Mike shares his own lived experience as a special needs advocate for many years and how devastating it is to learn of past clients struggling profusely in light of the drop off of IEP services post Coronavirus restrictions. "Kids in regular ed will have free home school by their computer every day, paid for by the US government. And there's absolutely zero announcement about the most vulnerable members of society that attend public school in special education. There is Zero an announcement about the civil rights and protections put in place by our government to the 1971 Omnibus bill that created DHS, that created CPS, that created the Individual with Disabilities Education Act that requires states to take the funds that they got and create programs for children and special education. These are very strict laws regarding how you use these funds. And the issue right now is not whether or not there's a pandemic, a cold, a virus. The issue is that states that have received billions and billions of dollars in funding for special education. They commingle those into their regular funds. So now they have gone ahead and used that money and now are going ahead and allowing parents to call and say, "Hey, I can't help what's going on at home", to lose their child. So, by lack of supporting children who are federally protected with these supports, we are facing a crisis, of epidemic proportions." "People tell me that "Oh, it's not my business plan. Oh, I can't give this away. Oh I'm going bankrupt "and I am like, "Guess what? What you give comes back. Always". If you give negativity it comes back to you. When you give a loan. It comes back to you. If you expect instant gratification, when you give. guess what? It's not happening. There's no remuneration, there's money coming to you for giving. It's love and love is returned. You put love out to the world, and it's infectious. It's way more infectious than the Coronavirus. Yeah, so that's my plan. My plan is to put love into the world. 1 million milligrams, a million milligrams, and the details are still being worked out. It's pretty awesome. So people can get a small amount of CBD oil mailed to them or they'll pick it up and have something that they can use to help themselves their loved ones" Mike learned about compassion under the tutelage of Dennis Peron, an American activist and businessman who became a leader in the movement for the legalization of cannabis throughout the 1990s. He influenced many in California and thus changed the political debate on marijuana in the United States. Dennis passed away on January 27, 2018 (aged 72). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Peron Please join us in sharing this podcast within and without the Cannabis Industry to garner as much support as possible. The Mike Drop! My Journey with Cannabis Started With A Picture of Charlotte Figi

The second episode of The Mike Drop is dedicated to Charlotte Figi who recently passed due to complications from Epilepsy. Mike Robinson, who is also afflicted by Epilepsy and host, Jill Woodworth, who has children with Tuberous Sclerosis related epilepsy, have an intense discussion of Mike's first memory of hearing about Charlotte Figi, "My whole journey with cannabis started with looking at a picture of Charlotte. I mean literally when I first started using cannabis and CBD I didn't even know how to use it. I'd been using cannabis my whole life pretty much, smoking it, but not using medicinally and ingesting it. I didn't even know I was eating CBD because a roommate was giving it to me who couldn't pronounce it. A guy from Korea was calling it can't eat it all. And then finally one day, he spelled it out for me, Cannabidiol, and I went to Google the committee all and popped, Charlotte Figi" From here Mike goes into extensive detail regarding the importance of valuing our time and treasuring the moments because of the uncertainty inherent in an epilepsy diagnosis, whether actively seizing or not. "There are only so many days left. My days matter. So for us, in the world of epilepsy, we are rich with life. We don't need the money to have to value our time." Mike gives an eloquent explanation of a "cytokine storm", what it is, how it is relevant to status epilepticus AND COVID 19 and how Charlotte Figi's passing enabled Mike to connect the dots. "So when I look at the impact that she had, it's not just on the cannabis industry. It's right now during the height of a global pandemic, the impact that allowed me just one little guy in an eight by eight Research Center office to dig deep into this different response to the immune system. And it's really not that different, like we talked about. Somebody tears ligament in their knee. The immune system is what causes this cytokine storm that causes swelling in that knee. It's that basic. So the person has a problem in their lungs, from COVID-19, it's the immune system sending the fluid there, the person has a bunch of seizures, and a lot of gets inflamed. It's the immune system again." We discuss a product that's in development, "So literally what I put everything down for and it wasn't just a response to COVID-19, because when you respond to a cytokine storm, you're responding to every last health issue that causes this. There's a lot of them as we've gone over. The very same formulations I have been working on work for cancer patients undergoing chemo to release free radicals. For anybody who's exposed to anything ...to be safe. It also works for an athlete who just worked out real hard, and for anyone that's just too stressed. Let's say a mom taking care of their special needs kid all day long. backache stressed out, needs to rest, is going nuts. I developed something anyone could put on their body doing something they do every single day.." From here we go into more into detail on products being developed that make claims about treating COVID19 and the dire importance of ending cannabis prohibition, and getting all hands on deck researching and developing an endless number of potential treatments for so many conditions. Mike discusses the challenges to the autism and special needs population escalated by COVID19 and how dire and frustrating what's happening with our loved ones who need relief and treatments now. One of his constant goals that is coming to fruition, is bringing to market cannabis strains that address the autism symptoms and other challenges that have afflicted so many individuals and families many of which CAN BE addressed utilizing the powers of cannabinoid medicine. A parting quote: "I just want to remember Charlotte, and I want to do it in a positive, positive light. We had an angel, visit our earth and stay here for a brief period of time. And whilst you hear the number of lives changed, weren't in the millions, weren't in the tens of millions, I would say more like hundreds of millions. The number of lives that will be changed because this angel visited our earth will hit the billions without a doubt. Yeah, I get chills. So talk about an angelic being. I believe that Charlotte he will forever be looking over us, for will forever be watching us in our labs, watching farmers in their fields, watching patients as they're using their medicine forever." God Speed. I'm having a serious blast expanding my craft of communication with you about empowering people as they travel together toward best health. Adding the medium of sound has been a stretch for me while tapping my creative juices.  I'm testing various ways to blend written, oral and sound experiences while telling stories and advocating for us, people at the center of care. I've published the first two interviews about young adults with complex conditions transitioning from pediatric to adult medical care. I got on to this topic while attending a PCORI Advisory Panel (Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute). A fellow panel member, Kate Houghton, effectively advocated for funding research into the challenges of young adults transitioning from pediatric to adult care. Turns out I know young adults, parents, and clinicians who are willing to be interviewed. Voila, the series has begun. We started with Jill Woodworth, a mom of three young adults with complex conditions.

Interview with Jill Woodworth, mother of 4, three with Tuberous Sclerosis, managing the transition from pediatric to adult medical care. Fascinating, frustrating, heart-breaking, and inspiring. Silos and boundaries,  crossing the threshold, primary physician,  autonomy, self-management. One of the scenarios with the most boundaries, cracks, and thresholds is where young adults with complex medical conditions transition from pediatric to adult care. "If there's any communication, that has to go through me. Unfortunately, I have to network that system and that's just really cumbersome." "I can also help other people that have questions about how to transition. I'm certainly not an expert. But boy, it is something that I wish I always say do it the earlier the better. The earlier you can think about it the better." "He's learning. Like I taught him to get his own meds, you know, it's kind of meeting each one of them where they are and what they can do. But it's hard." Throughout my 45-year career in health care, I’ve been attracted to boundaries, the cracks between those boundaries, and have found myself drawn to welcoming people as they cross the threshold between those boundaries and cracks. Healthcare professionals often refer to silos. The silo of cardiology, the silo of surgery – silos by specialties. Then the silos of setting – hospital, home, clinic, long term care, emergency care, intensive care. Then the silos of professions – doctors, surgeons, nurses, therapists, then “other” professionals – social workers, acupuncturists, chiropractors. So, you see where I’m coming from when I say boundaries and cracks. Well, I’m a fixer by nature.  Not the Michael Cohen variety of fixer but making it better. And the opportunity for better can be found at boundaries and cracks. These boundaries are never going away. It’s a product of specialization. To be an expert in something you need boundaries. “My specialty is within these boundaries.” Therefore, fixing can be found when we treat boundaries as thresholds and welcome people across thresholds. In my experience, one of the scenarios with the most boundaries, cracks, and thresholds is where young adults with complex medical conditions transition from pediatric to adult care. So, welcome to the Health Hats podcast series about young adults transitioning from pediatric to adult medical care. In this series, I will interview young adults with complex medical conditions, their parent or guardians, point-of-care clinicians caring for these young adults, and whoever else I find of interest in this fascinating, frustrating, heart-breaking, and inspiring world. My first interview of the series is with Jill Woodworth, a mother of four who has three children with Tuberous Sclerosis. Tuberous Sclerosis Complex or TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in various organs, primarily the brain, eyes, heart, kidneys, skin and lungs. It’s also the leading genetic cause of both epilepsy and autism. I met Jill through her podcast, TSC Talks. I reached out to her and we set up a two-way interview. In this episode, TSC Talks Audio Editor Interviews grizzled TSC veteran, Jill Woodworth on what happened, what she learned, who she met and what's next. How understanding the impact of trauma has been the key that unlocked the doors to the integration of past experience, with present reality and how finding a way to have some quality of life in the midst of much uncertainty has been the motivating factor for developing the podcast. From diagnosis of TSC 3 times to the present day, there is something in this episode for everyone; from TSC affected, special needs parents, anyone who's struggled with coming to terms with witnessing the suffering of their loved ones frequently, having to figure out ways to help with few road maps and,how that impacts us as parents and caregivers. We must find "shelter from the storm" and keep moving forward despite continual challenges on many fronts in order to survive and help our loved ones affected.
