We dedicate this episode to Dix Denny who passed away on 03/12/2023. The Weirdos formed in 1977 in Los Angeles, California, and are considered one of the pioneering bands of the punk rock movement. In this episode we talk to Cliff Roman, original bass player for the Weirdos about his early influences, how he helped start the band and crazy adventures throughout their history. He also discusses when he left the group during the early 1980s, what kept him occupied and his return to punk rock. The original lineup of The Weirdos consisted of John Denney (vocals), Dix Denney (guitar) and Cliff Roman (bass), and Nickey "Beat" Alexander (drums). They gained popularity by performing at legendary punk rock venues like The Masque and the Whisky a Go Go. The Weirdos' music is characterized by its fast, energetic sound and sarcastic lyrics. They released their first single, "We Got the Neutron Bomb," in 1977, followed by their debut album, "Weird World," in 1981. Today on an encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast we spoke to John Denney, founding member and lead singer of the iconic punk band The Weirdos whose mother could make a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew, the one and only Dodo Denney. You likely remember Dodo as Mike TV's mother in Williy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but chances are you will remember her from a ton of television commercials, sitcoms, movies and the like. And if you lived in Kansas City during the 1950s, you likely remember her as Marilyn The Witch, a local horror movie host which brought the young John some fame when his mom came to school for career day. Since this original broadcast aired, John's brother Dix Denney, guitarist for The Weirdos passed away so we'd like to dedicate this encore episode to him for helping form the first LA punk rock band in history. And to that end, we'd be remised if we didn't mention the recently released, limited edition album vinyl-only Bomp Records Live! At The Club Azteca from 1978 which is out now at bompstore.com. What other podcast has discussions of George “Goober” Lindsey, Iggy Pop, Dustin Hoffman, Alice Ghostly and the like? The Rarified Heir Podcast and guest John Denney is coming up next! Take a listen!
Hey fellow Beyond Zero'er In this episode Dr.Isaac Zur and I discuss how leveraging a seemingly negative emotion "ANGER" might just be the key to unleashing your performance in certain situations...This is the area of Dr.Zur's thesis and research work on "A psycholphysiological examination of the emotions-performance relationship." that can be found here.Follow me on IG @davemmeyerPlease don't forget to leave a review on Apple Podcasts as it would mean a lot and to share this episode with your community

Last month, Dix Denney, co-founder and bassist for the Los Angeles punk rock band The Weirdos, passed away. A couple of years ago, Weasel Walter and Lydia sat down with his brother John for an interview, which we are sharing with you today. John, along with his brother Dix, founded The Weirdos in 1975, and the band is considered one of the most important LA punk bands of all time. The band released the iconic albums Destroy All Music and We've Got the Neutron Bomb in the late 1970s. John and Dix helped shape the early Los Angeles punk scene with The Weirdos' sound, which blended punk, garage rock, and surf music.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we talk to John Denney about his mother, actress Dodo Denney. Now, you may not know the name Dodo Denney but definitely have seen her. This episode is a roaring good time with John as we talk about his mother being in one of the most beloved movies of all-time, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and also because John is the lead singer of one of the greatest punk bands of all-time, The Weirdos. Somehow we combine the best of LA punk rock, the allure of Hollywood and the difficulties of auditioning for a role against the same actors time and time again. We bop-diddly-uhm-bop tonight from topics as wonderfully weirdo as Kansas City TV horror host Marilyn The Witch, the Penelope Spheeris' punk rock documentary The Decline of Western Civilization, George “Goober” Lindsey, Corvair cars, Frontier Records, Hallmark Cards, Iggy Pop, Rock-n-Roll Denny's, hitchhiking and a whole lot more. We got the Neuron Bomb in guest John Denney as he talks about growing up in the San Fernando Valley, seeing his mother lose roles to Alice Ghostley and making the difficult decision to be an extra in Dustin Hoffman's Straight Time or to headline The Whisky-a-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip in 1977. (Sigh) What's a young punk to do? And I say, destroy all podcasts, next on the Rarified Heir Podcast.

DISCLAIMER: WE ARE NOT SUGGESTING THE USE OF ANY MIND ALTERING SUBSTANCES AND SIMPLY SHARING OUR THOUGHTS & EXPERIENCES ON THIS TOPIC. PLEASE CONSULT YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. A hot topic in baseball is the testing of recreational drug use and for a long time marijuana has been banned at the minor league level, however as a 40 man roster player they are not testing for the use of recreational drugs . Well that rule was just overturned and many minor leaguer players were quite happy to hear that with how prevalent marijuana use is for many athletes to "escape". Perhaps many athletes are uncomfortable with facing themselves during the quiet moments in-between competition as they are encouraged to "keep their heads in the game" which could explain the rampant use of mild altering substances in competitive sports. John and I dive into this topic and he shares his personal experiences with the use of acid.

As part 2 of the Affirmations Episode, John Denney and I go deep into though viruses talking about both positive and negative thought viruses. A thought virus is defined by the author's of the book "Explain Pain" as a thought which indicates extreme danger in you and can be expressed amongst your senses, things you say, and things you think and believe. Others have defined thought viruses as "subconscious patterns that become ingrained in our being.”We take a positive thought virus and call it a thought vaccine to cure these negative thought viruses and teach you how to cue yourself to use these at critical moments in journey when going from injured to elite. Hi everybody and welcome to episode # 4 where I am here back with performance coach John Denney. Today's episode is titled “Recovery Starts in The Mind”. John and I both have interesting perspectives on recovery as it pertains to achieving peak levels of performance from both the physical side and the other parts of that triangle, the mind and spirit. Now, this can be after injury or even just when we are striving to improve our own performance throughout our journey. In today's episode, John and I both define recovery in our own unique perspectives. Recovery is a word that has garnered a ton of attention in the world of sports performance over the last decade, but what does it really mean? John brings the mind into the conversation, an area that does not get the most attention when we think about recovery. John then shares a very powerful tool, the reset breath. He goes over the proper steps to performing this strategy in order to improve your recovery, one of the first and most important step towards optimizing one's recovery in the mind. We also discuss what heart rate variability is and how this relates to our recovery along with the heart math system. This system is a way for us to monitor and train our heart rate variability, almost like a mirror into our overall emotional state. In this short 23 minute episode, John and I wrap up episode #4 with the thought of aligning our mind and body, as often times in a state of distress, our mind gets in the way of our body. Remember, "Health Is Our Natural Condition". Enjoy episode # 4, "Where recovery starts in the mind" both after injury and even just in our normal daily lives as we deal with everyday stress. http://www.plperform.comhttp://www.theharmonyexercise.comHeart Math Inner Balance: https://store.heartmath.com/inner-balance/Instagram: @davemmeyer
In episode #2 the renowned mental and spiritual performance guide, John Denney and I discuss how to find your deep visions and staying on target in 2020. It might be figuring out your vision for dinner, your short term 2020 goals, or even your entire purpose and vision in life. Instead of a superficial conversation about mind and body hacks, John cuts to the deepest part of how to figure this out with concise and specific steps. Identifying what you love and writing down your visions are just some of the very important points John and I discuss. As we get deeper into the background of the harmony exercise and his experiences prior to creating his guided meditation website www.theharmonyexercise.com, John makes the powerful analogy of how our body heals a cut just to how our body heals from specific emotions. John proposes calling these, inflammatory emotions. Just as the inflammatory process is a necessary step in the healing process of our body, so are these inflammatory emotions that we experience. John and I then discuss how to reprogram and re-establish our heart driven focus in life and filling ourselves with emotions and actions that can get us there. Forgiveness and other acts can be the pathway forward to heal through our emotional struggles when dealing with physical challenges. Special shout out to CJ Beatty "The Baseball & Softball Motivator" @cjbeatty44 on IG and on the web at www.cjbeatty.eventbrite.com. CJ and I worked together at the St. Louis Cardinals and I mention him early on in this episode when I made an important phone call to CJ in order to help figure out my new visions. CJ's advice will ring with me forever after he stated "Dave you are not just a Physical Therapist, you are a Speaker! You need to put pen to paper and start figuring out exactly what it is that you want!" Thank you CJ and please support all of us by visiting us online and on social media! John Denney can be found at www.theharmonyexercise.com and on instagram @theharmonyexercise. Please find me on instagram @davemmeyer and hit me up with some feedback on the podcasts!
Hi everybody and welcome to my first episode of the Injured to Elite Podcast as your host David Meyer. Let me start by sharing my 2020 mission with everyone. My mission is to empower each and every one of you at a time of physical challenges to create your best life possible both on and off the field and to change the culture of healthcare and sports medicine. Our first episode today features my dear friend and performance coach mentor, John Denney out of Jupiter, Florida. After being challenged to record a facebook live every day for a year of this guided meditation practice it has eventually culminated into theharmonyexercise.com which has a membership that is growing exponentially! What better way to kick off the podcast than with the one strategy I use to start every morning to get my mind, body, and spirit in sync! This is such an important concept that I devoted a major section and chapter to this guided meditation in my book Injured to Elite. This year I have not missed a day and I already have seen the great results in all areas of my life. After listening, go to www.theharmonyexercise.com for your free trial and don't go another day without starting your day the harmony way. This episode of your favorite Miami Dolphins podcast doesn’t require much explanation: Cannata, Houtz, and Sutton will look at the bevy of roster moves that occurred over the weekend. The trades of Kenny Stills, Laremy Tunsil, and Kiko Alonso, the roster cuts down to 53, and the turnover at the bottom of the roster will all come into play for this blitzkrieg episode of Phinsider Radio. The Dolphins now occupy four 1st round picks and four 2nd round picks in the 2020 and 2021 NFL drafts — a ridiculous haul, and yet a roster completely devoid of talent at almost every level of the team minus Jerome Baker, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Xavien Howard. What’s the best approach to building the roster considering the Dolphins also have oodles of money to spend? It’s been a whirlwind, but let’s take a breath and see where the Dolphins roster stands after the dust settles from this weekend’s Armageddon. The triumvirate will also discuss being in the crosshairs of Twitter ire, being at the heel of some smear campaigns on breaking the Laremy Tunsil news — we’ll talk about the true cost of delivering inside information to the masses. Stay tuned for episodes of Phinsider Daily throughout the coming week leading up to Sunday’s contest vs. the Baltimore Ravens!
