Found in southwest Missouri in 2017, Tiger-Lily is now a species ambassador with the Missouri Department of Conservation. MDC naturalist Lauren Baker talks about best practices for feeding two hungry snake heads at once (Tiger and Lily share a stomach) and what she's witnessed providing care to a snake with one body and two independent brains — and temperaments.

Brad Crowell 0:01 Fuck yeah. Lesley Logan 0:02 Get ready for some wins. Lesley Logan 0:05 Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started. Lesley Logan 0:47 Hey, Be It babe, welcome back to another Friday, our last Friday of the year. What is that? I mean that, well, I'll tell you, that's my win. We made it. But let me, in case you're new, hi, I'm Lesley Logan. Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast. We have interviews on Tuesday, recaps on Thursday, and FYF a.k.a. a short dose of inspiration to kick off your weekend. Because we all need something to look forward to on a Friday other than the weekend, which is like celebrating your wins. So first of all, I do celebrate one of your wins, I then share you one of mine. And the whole goal is so that you can see that like anything can be a win and you have more wins in your life than you think. So the first one. So today's win of yours is from Lauren Barker, she is in my eLevate round three. And this one she put in before Friday. So I know it's not Friday. But man, if God isn't making up for the past few months this week, I mentioned to our community education center that I'd love to get nine to 13-year-olds moving with Pilates and they called me the same day, I sat with the directors for about an hour explaining how this could be a game changer for kids. And they hired me as a contractor on the spot. They want me to teach a youth and adult class in the spring and they want to grow the program. I was worried about getting the right mats for them as resources. They need three or four-inch or thicker. So last night, I wrote a couple of companies to see if I could get them donated. I tagged a couple of companies a lot and they wrote me today saying they're going to donate mat for mini circles for the kids. Oh my God, that's amazing. She tagged Balanced Body and they're going to donate mats in mini circles for kids. That's amazing. We love them. BB also wants to do an article on me and promote the project with the kids. Literally in the course of two days I have gotten a job, gotten an outfit, and have free advertising from a major company. So excited. If you have any suggestions for class form email me as I'm sure I could use as much wisdom as I can get. Lesley Logan 2:37 Well, first of all, Lauren, wait to tell people what your big dreams were. And then reach out to options that could outfit that dream. And now you've got plenty of time for it all to happen and you know what you're highlighted for, which is so great. It's gonna inspire so many others to do said thing. And side note, we actually do have a course on Profitable Pilates on how to teach children and like how to program it. So I highly recommend that because it's by Amy Rost. And she actually teaches a lot of kids, so weekly classes. So I think this is really exciting. And I'm so grateful that we get to celebrate this win with you. Balanced Body has sponsored our winter tour and they love to do a thing that really helps more bodies do Pilates. So I think this is really cool.Lesley Logan 3:18 Okay, my win. You know, I at the beginning of this year I interviewed, will interview with Alan Stein Jr. and he had said like, every single day he ends the day asking himself if he's like 1% better today than he was the day before. Right? And it's really stuck with me. Also, because it's like, it's so easy as a recovering perfectionist and overachiever to like, just you know, if you didn't get everything done, then did you do anything at all I mean, did you really, because you could do everything. Right? So what I'm proud of is not only did we make it to the end of the year, but the one major personal goal that we had to do happened. And I shared that with you on a past win but like, you know, three years in the making to make that goal when which is like getting our house, which is so it was a team effort, y'all. So we had that. And then there was other things that we got out of this year. And you know what, here's where I'll be really honest, not a single one of them hit the exact goal that I wanted, not one, and that they're all a win. And I to me, that's a win for me being able to see every single thing happen and whether or not it did hit the arbitrary goal I had doesn't mean it wasn't successful. It doesn't mean I'm not so proud of myself and my team for getting us there and getting what we got. And I say that because it can be so easy. I didn't do that. I didn't do that. I didn't do this. I didn't do that. And there's a lot of shit you won't do. That doesn't mean you didn't do a lot. That doesn't mean you're not awesome and doesn't mean you're not 1% better today than you were yesterday. Lesley Logan 0:47 So my win is that we made it. We made it and we continue to grow and we continue to learn, we continue to make some mistakes and we continue to learn from those mistakes and we continue to make an impact on more and more people. And that's exactly that's all I want is to have more bodies doing Pilates. So thank you so much for being part of that. Before I let you go, I will leave you with this. Because you like these affirmations I've heard, so here is the one for this week. And I think it's a really good week to think about it. I am peaceful and whole. I know, it's the end of the year, I am peaceful and whole. Say it out loud with me. I am peaceful and whole. I am peaceful and whole. Yes, you are peaceful and yes, you are whole. Thank you all so much. And until next time, Be It Till You See It. Lesley Logan 5:41 That's all I got for this episode of the Be It Till You See It Podcast. One thing that would help both myself and future listeners is for you to rate the show and leave a review and follow or subscribe for free wherever you listen to your podcast. I've written two relatively recent articles on the economy. The first summarized Lauren Baker of ITR Economics keynote address at BPCON 22. She concluded that signs point to a potential soft landing in the economy—the aversion of disaster. Great news! Or not. I discussed the potential that the throttling of commercial credit markets could crash-land this potential soft landing. In my second article, I talked about the implications of the credit cycle. I overviewed Howard Marks' thoughts on the potentially disastrous impact of a restricted credit market. We discussed the characteristics of a generous credit market as well as a tight one. We reviewed the possible impact on the economy and what could go right or wrong. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

How do people and organisations work to transform the food system? Are there effective strategies to connect local movements across the globe? And is it the size or scale of their operations, that connects them to each other, or is it something else?Lauren Baker, director of programmes at Global Alliance for the Future of Food, has been working to transform the food system for decades - in Canada, Mexico and across the world. While Lauren's work may focus on a more local or regional scale, she regularly traverses scales, reflecting how individuals and local food networks are embedded in larger systems, connected to broader political economic dynamics. In our conversation, we discuss Global Alliance’s theory of transformation, the importance of relationship building in food systems work, and why Lauren finds it essential to link local and global scale to place. For full show notes and transcript, visit: tabledebates.org/podcast-episode3

Marine Tanguy got one of her first tastes of art gallery management when she was just 21 years old, but she didn't like what she saw. She felt the traditional gallery model was "elitist" and didn't allow for works from all demographics. And so, she decided to change this by opening MTArt in 2015. It's an agency for up-and-coming artists, helping them pay for studios, showcase their work through public art installations, virtual galleries and commercial partnerships and find buyers. Young artists appear to like the idea: MTArt says that it reviews 200 portfolios every month in order to find the most innovative young talent. In June 2015, Tanguy founded MTArt Agency. Tanguy has stated she founded the company to provide a better supporting structure for artists outside the traditional gallery model. MTArt covers their artists’ studio costs, sells their works, implement cultural & commercial partnerships and offers their artists press exposure. In return, MTArt Agency gains commission on each piece the artist sells, and artists give one piece of art to the agency’s private collection each year. The agency reviews 200 portfolios of up-and-coming artists every month, with the value of the selected artists’ works growing on average 150% in value year-on-year. MTArt Agency currently has offices in London and Paris. Artists that are currently managed by MTArt Agency include French biodegradable mural artist Saype, French AI collective Obvious, David Aiu Servan Schreiber, Delphine Diallo, Amber Vittoria, Claire Luxton, Dejha Ti & Ania Catherine, Elisa Insua, Lauren Baker, Léo Caillard, Tiffany Bouelle, Leno Dothan, Jennifer Abessira, Ben Cullen Williams, Jesu Moratiel, Ugur Gallenkus, Andreas Tyrimos and Asiko. As well as their investment in artists, MTArt Agency has also partnered with household brands including Aston Martin, Christie's, Chloé, the Mayor of London, Network Rail, the Louvre and the City of Paris on special projects. Tanguy is a member of the Thousand Network, the Creative Industries Federation, The Association of Women Art Dealers and The Association of Women in the Arts. Tanguy also serves as a young patron of the V&A Museum and has been appointed Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Tanguy has delivered two TedX talks; on how to transform cities with art (2017), and on how social media visuals affects our minds (2018). In 2018 Tanguy was a recipient of Forbes 30 under 30 Europe: Art and Culture. In 2019 Tanguy was announced as the face of a new campaign for French luxury fashion house Chloe Tanguy has been commissioned to write a book on The Visual Diet, due for publication in 2020. The Visual Diet campaign explores the themes of replacing typical social media visual consumption with enriched visual art content. SESSION SUMMARY: When Prohibition came to an end, the federal government left it up to each individual state to decide how they would handle the sale and distribution of beer and other adult beverages. What this led to was a tapestry of laws that saw each state operating very, very differently from one another. To this day, many laws that made next to no sense when they were put into effect back in the 1930s still exist...making even less sense as the beer world and alcohol culture as a whole has evolved. In Session 23 of the Breaking Brews Podcast, Jason Cercone is joined by Lauren Baker, current General Manager of The Harmony Inn and former Production Manager at North Country Brewing, to discuss some beer laws across the country that help the growth of beer in some states, but hinder others. In addition, Jason and Lauren talk about beer distribution and how that model has changed over the years. One topic of discussion on today's show is a new law that was going to be passed in Pennsylvania in July of 2019. This law called for the addition of a 6% sales tax on every pint sold across the bar at brewery taprooms throughout the Commonwealth. But, thanks to the efforts of the Brewers of Pennsylvania, brewery owners, and beer enthusiasts, a compromise was reached that will make this new tax much more manageable for small breweries who stood to lose upwards of $100,000 a year in revenue if they absorbed the tax and did not pass it on to their customers. Click here to read about the tax and the compromise that was reached on the Brewers of PA website.Another big topic covered on this episode is beer distribution. When does it make sense for a beer brand to sign a wholesaler agreement? Why are these agreements so iron-clad in that they do not allow a brewery to transition out, even if a wholesaler is not living up to their end of the agreement? There is a lot to be considered for brands of all sizes in this area and, as mentioned before, laws and regulations are different in each state and dictate how a brewery can grow their distribution footprint. Lauren has worked for breweries in Texas, Colorado, and Pennsylvania and brings knowledge about how a brand can be successful when it comes to expanding their footprint. She and Jason cover when and why a brewery may want to venture down that path and, when weighing the options, doing it so all parties involved can win.Connect with North Country Brewing:Website | Facebook | Instagram | TwitterAnd The Harmony Inn:Website | Facebook | Instagram | TwitterMUSIC CREDIT: All music heard on today’s session of the Breaking Brews Podcast is courtesy of purple-planet.com

How do we inspire resiliency and hope in the kids who need them the most? First Lady of Massachusetts Lauren Baker and Boston restaurateur Chris Himmel (Grill 23, Post 390, Harvest, Bistro du Midi) join host Billy Shore for a heartfelt conversation about how creating positive experiences can have a profound impact on underprivileged kids. Baker discusses her work for the Wonderfund, which partners with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to provide comfort and dignity to children. These comforts can be as simple as buying a young boy in foster care a baseball glove. “He was able to play little league, engage with his friends, and be part of his community. That’s a moment that really matters for a child,” she explains. Himmel is very intentional about finding causes that he and his restaurants can support that have a direct impact on kids. “If you really care, you can find a way to make a difference. What we get is so much more because our team sees first-hand the difference they can make,” he says of the hands-on programs his restaurants support, including exposing hundreds of kids to farms with Green Growers and the Boys & Girls Club. First Lady Baker feels that all children deserve support. “No child is responsible for trauma that happens. Kids are dependent on the adults in their lives for survival and when the adults aren’t able for whatever reason to provide for them, the child is the one who suffers,” she says. Himmel feels that immigrants are another vulnerable group who deserve support. “From my standpoint, we couldn’t operate without people who were able to immigrate into our country. If there is additional red tape that prevents additional people from being able to come to our country and make a life for themselves, it’s not just hurting them, it’s hurting our industry and subsequently a lot of other industries,” he believes. Listen to these two committed children’s advocates discuss their motivations and the impact that simple acts can have on a child’s life.
SESSION SUMMARY: With the beer industry thriving, many events have surfaced that help celebrate the scene and its dynamic culture. Craft beer is all about community and those responsible for producing the liquid that makes it all possible are always at the core of events designed to raise money for charity, bring awareness to specific causes, and provide a tremendous alternative to beer tents with $1 drafts of domestic light lager...all while helping elevate the profile of craft beer and introducing new enthusiasts to diverse, innovative products. The generosity of the beer industry has led to the creation of many events. Most of them are planned well and support a great cause. Others, unfortunately, fall short. The object of today's show is to pinpoint some of the aspects of good events and bad events and help anyone who is planning out a beer festival get started on the right foot.In Session 19 of the Breaking Brews Podcast, Jason Cercone is joined by Meg Evans and Lauren Baker. Lauren made her first appearance on the show back in Session 3 while this is Meg's Breaking Brews debut. If you listened to Session 3, Lauren talked about her role as Production Manager at North Country Brewing Company. Since then, she has transitioned to General Manager of The Harmony Inn (a bar and restaurant also owned and operated by North Country Brewing) and Meg has picked up where Lauren has left off, vacating her role as Head Brewer at Rock Bottom to make the jump to North Country as Production Manager. If you are thinking about putting a beer event or beer festival together, what should you consider? This episode goes into great detail about many aspects, including but not limited to:What is the purpose of your event?Have you scouted out the location of your event? How big of an event do you want to host?Do you have enough bathrooms for your guests? How do you plan on taking care of your vendors? What are some of the common mistakes event planners make when executing their event?Do your vendors have everything they need (instructions on when and where to unload, ice, dump buckets, water for glass rinses, etc.)? How do you ensure the best experience for vendors? For guests? For sponsors? How do you acquire sponsors?Does your event have a charitable aspect to it?How do you properly stipend a brewery to have their beer poured at your event? How will you ensure safe, responsible drinking at your event? What do you do when months of planning go haywire day of your event and you need to think on your feet to make it all work out? What steps can you take to ensure your event will return for a 2nd year and beyond? If you'd like to read more on the subject, check out 7 Points to Consider When Planning a Beer Festival on Breaking Brews.Connect with North Country Brewing:Website | Facebook | Instagram | TwitterAnd The Harmony Inn:Website | Facebook | Instagram | TwitterMUSIC CREDIT: All music heard on today’s session of the Breaking Brews Podcast is courtesy of purple-planet.com

What is it like to be the First Lady of Massachusetts? This week, we packed up our recording equipment and headed to the gold-domed Statehouse in Boston to interview First Lady, Lauren Baker. Her husband, Charlie Baker took the oath of office on January 8, 2015 and is widely heralded as the most popular governor in the United States. His wife is a woman who has largely kept to herself, supporting Charlie but forging her own path as an advertising executive on Madison Avenue and at Hill Holliday in Boston, and as a devoted mom to their three children. When Charlie decided to run for governor, Lauren was by his side, campaigning hard in every corner of the state. Today, she is championing a little-known non-profit called the Wonderfund, www.wonderfundma.org with a determination to help children at risk.
