In this episode of "Sleepless in Singapore," I recount an adventurous road trip along the West Coast of the United States with my friend Markus. Landing in Las Vegas, I am immediately struck by the ubiquitous gambling machines at the airport. Markus and I reunite at the Luxor Hotel, and after a brief delay due to my flight, we embark on our journey in a less-than-ideal Dodge Challenger. Our first stop is a hearty breakfast at The Egg and I, followed by a visit to the impressive Hoover Dam, capturing the essence of American engineering and natural beauty. Our travels then take us through the picturesque landscapes of Arizona, where we marvel at the Horseshoe Bend and explore the Navajo Arts and Crafts at the Cameron Trading Post. The vast red rock formations of Monument Valley leave a lasting impression, and we savor the tranquility of our remote Airbnb stays. As we journey through Utah, the green scenery of Monticello and the unique rock formations captivate us. In Salt Lake City, we are pleasantly surprised by the vibrant, inclusive atmosphere, visiting charming bookshops and enjoying local delicacies. The Bonneville Salt Flats and the quirky Shoshone Falls in Idaho add a sense of wonder to our trip, culminating in a memorable dining experience in Nampa.
In today's episode, Dan sits down to talk with a fiery design duo who have overcome new business challenges and thrived in the interior design industry. They are the co-founders and current partners of Watts & Dray: Vanessa Watts and Erika Dray. The two provide insights into their journey from creative director and fashion designer into partners who built a company from scratch. Take a listen and hear their story, as well as some valuable insights!Takeaways: The importance of genuine human connection and attentiveness in hospitality can't be overstated. Leaders should foster an environment where team members feel genuinely cared for and where they, in turn, extend that care to clients and colleagues alike.Hospitality is not just for the elite but should be extended to everyone, regardless of their background or status. This inclusive approach can help create a more welcoming and supportive team culture.Starting and running a business often involves numerous setbacks. Leaders should be prepared to navigate these challenges with resilience and adaptability, learning from mistakes and constantly iterating on their approach. While passion and spontaneity are crucial, having a well-thought-out plan and understanding business dynamics like cash flow and client acquisition can significantly impact success.Allow room for wild and innovative ideas, and don't be afraid to pursue unconventional projects. Building a business with a partner involves clear communication, respect, and a shared vision.Don't wait for the perfect moment or perfect plan to start. Begin your entrepreneurial journey with the understanding that learning and adjustments are part of the process.Quote of the Show:“At that point in my career, I had never designed anything on my own. It had always been through a studio, for studio clients, and no one had ever asked me to design anything on my own, but I have some pretty wild ideas about what I think the world should look like.” - Vanessa WattsLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vanessa-watts-nyc/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erika-dray-6356897/ Website: https://www.watts-dray.com/ Shout Outs:12:55 - Mike Suomi https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikesuomi/ https://suomidesignworks.com/ 34:45 - Fallin' and Flyin' Jeff Bridges https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTYyS8bxV78 37:35 - The Luxor Hotel https://luxor.mgmresorts.com/en.html 40:04 - The Cosmopolitan https://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=mgm_corporate_performance_brand_2024&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwqf20BhBwEiwAt7dtdQ6OeEWYeaqbIeqgrtKGGEJy-0y8zcmX8OQvbZP5OgUPFXtmzNndaxoC9bUQAvD_BwE Ways to Tune In: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A2XOJvb6mGqEPYJ5bilPXApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1573596386?i=1000663163850Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZGVmaW5pbmdob3NwaXRhbGl0eS5saXZlL2ZlZWQueG1sAmazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/8c904932-90fa-41c3-813e-1cb8f3c42419Transistor: https://www.defininghospitality.live/

This week on the Revenue Insights Podcast we are bringing you a very special episode all about deal slippage. Featuring insights from our previous guests Sandeep Wagchoure, Jeremy Bono, Steven Birdsall, Joey Gilkey, and Jaime Konzelman, this is an episode you don't want to miss out on. Sandeep Waghchoure is the Vice President of Sales Operations at insightsoftware. His career has primarily revolved around Dell, where he assumed several significant leadership positions, culminating in the role of Senior Director of Global Finance Operations. In 2022, he embarked on a new chapter, joining insightsoftware, where he is spearheading the development and expansion of operational capabilities aimed at achieving enhanced sales productivity and accelerated quote-to-cash velocity within a dynamic and rapidly growing environment. Jeremy Bono is a visionary leader with a record of developing and executing strategies that drive growth and profitability in hyper-competitive markets. As the current GM/VP Sales at Phenom, he is responsible for leading enterprise and industry vertical sales teams. He is further an Executive Member of Pavilion, hosting monthly standup meetings with other members to create a community to share and learn. Steven Birdsall is an impressive and passionate man, having been a Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) four times over, and a Chief Operating Officer (COO) six. His most recent role was as the Executive Vice President of Global Sales at Qlik, and prior to that he was the Head of HCM Cloud Application Sales at Oracle; CRO at Anaplan; and the Executive Vice President and CRO at Radial Inc. Joey Gilkey is a serial founder and entrepreneur with multiple high-value exits behind him. He is the CEO of Apex Revenue which operates as a fractional VP of Sales to ramp sales results at established B2B companies. He is an innovative thought leader because he thinks outside of the box, strips away what's superfluous, and focuses on the core drivers of sales outcomes. Joey believes that with the evolution of technology and processes, companies have added multiple layers over the core processes hence losing sight of what counts. Jaime Konzelman is the Vice President of Sales at Unisys. Jaime has also held the position of Vice President of Sales at Atos. Before that, she was a Marketing Manager at Acxiom, Luxor Hotel and Casino, and Posterscope. She also has vast knowledge and experience in business and people management and is constantly looking for ways to improve relationships that will foster business growth.

Ok well. This episode is (honestly) a bit all over the place. I discuss my fascination with Las Vegas, my personal experiences in Sin City, and my desire to explore the paranormal underbelly of Vegas. This episode does contain some dark content (content regarding death and paranormal activity), as I explore a small fraction of the paranormal and odd things that have been reported at the Luxor Hotel. I do not go into explicit details, or anything intensely graphic, but these topics are mentioned. This episode may be triggering to some listeners. Viewer discretion is advised.
Continuing to read from my book StripNit. This book is about my first 7 visits to Vegas and my first 7 years working in the poker industry. The Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is one of the most iconic hotels on the strip—and supposedly one of the most haunted. Back in the 1990s, there were grand plans to make Vegas a new Disney-type destination, full of ornate themed resorts and fun activities for children. The Luxor Hotel and Casino, an Ancient Egyptian themed hotel that's shaped like a giant obsidian pyramid with a beam of light coming out of the top, was a strange and fascinating example of Vegas' '90s family-friendly ambitions. But all that changed in the early 2000s, when Vegas changed tack. This week is a look at the history of the hotel, from its construction and grand opening to its current de-themed state, plus some initial thoughts on why people might believe the hotel is cursed. Highlights include: • A ill-fated pyramid hotel project that was planned for the site next to the Luxor • Mysterious dead links • A light that's visible from space • Special elevators that go sideways and up to bring people to their rooms • Ancient alien 3D movies • Authentic reproductions of Ancient Egyptian artifacts For all of our shownotes, including our sources, visit buriedsecretspodcast.com. A-1 Nick of the A-1 Podecast recaps Tomi Lahren's presentation at the 2020 PBUS Winter Conference.PBUS (Professional Bail Agents of the United States ™) is a professional association representing bail agents nationwide.February 23-26, 2020, the PBUS winter conference took place in Las Vegas and hosted many keynote speakers. Tomi Lahren, a FoxNews contributor and host of FoxNation, spoke to a crowd of PBUS members at the Luxor Hotel and Casino. She mentioned the need for:1) controlling the narrative of bail reform-using buzzwords that help everyday people understand the bail industry and the dangers of badly engineered reforms2) being true to oneself -never letting opponents silence you by calling you mean spirited names like bigot, nazi, or racist. Just stay true to yourself and tell the factual truth, never be silenced.3) skin in the game-the rich and powerful people that are rarely the victim of crime predictably advocate the releasing of dangerous people, because this does not effect people in gated communities, or their own private security. Instead, it only allows dangerous people, to continue the cycle of crime, within the marginalized communities they are re-released to. Lastly, A-1 Nick explains how Ms. Lahren's television persona differs from her in-person persona. Yes, she is opinionated, but also yes, she is humble and willing to learn in order to relay the best, more accurate information on her show.
So once we got into the news, a very, very, very dedicated fan went to Miley Cyrus concert in Las Vegas, NV and he wasn't supposed to be there. He was so obsessed, that he wanted to impregnate Miley and posted it everywhere including Facebook and Instagram. Security and everyone else was on alert just incase the man showed up to the concert, and they eventually got him at T-mobile arena close to the Luxor Hotel. Honch doesn't want to 'knock her up', he wants to have a relationship with Jethrow. So Jethrow also brought us a question from the Internet, which was "How do you cook your Ramen, what do you add to it?" The Honch adds egg, and apparently the Jethrow adds hot dogs. Did you also know that people are ashamed with they buy Ramen at the store? They put it at the bottom of the cart.Did you hear about the plane that made an emergency landing after coffee was spilled on the plane's cockpit controls. The plan, bound for Cancun, Mexico had to divert, as smoke came into the cab. With over 300 people on board, this could have brewed something worse. Was this the awful on-plane coffee, or did someone bring on their latte. At the end of the day everyone was ok, there was no injuries, and they will be using cup lids to keep PLANES FROM CRASHING INTO THE OCEAN! There was a woman who decided that impersonating a police officer was a good thing. With carrying a gun and badge, the woman in Georgia decided that she wanted some snacks...and well, expected some snacks because was, as she thought, "the law". She was pulled over my the real police (not her parole officer) and she is in trouble. If we can make one recommendation, don't impersonate a police officer for snacks. What snack would you impersonate an officer for? Cream pies, nutty bars, cool ranch munchies, and strawberry swiss cake rolls? D discussed a time where a snack almost cost him his life in his car. And we learn why you shouldn’t check-in to the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas for the annual gathering of the geeks known as CES. I woke up that morning in a suite at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. I felt terrible.I was in town for a trade show and the night before a client had taken me to dinner. We ordered these massive, hundred-dollar steaks, drank several glasses of wine, and gorged ourselves on ice cream and desserts. I’d brought the leftovers back to the room and they were still sitting on the counter. I glanced around the room. Although they had upgraded my room to a suite, the place was run down and sad. There was a Jacuzzi in the middle of the room and the place reeked of alcohol a previous guest had spilled. I got out of bed and looked at myself in the full-length mirror. I was six-foot-two and I weighed 235 pounds I carried it well, but, not well enough. I felt sick. I was flabby and tired and filled with regret and remorse. I was going through my second divorce, I was in a lawsuit with my first wife, and my blood pressure was so high that my doctor had put me on medicine to control it. Vegas baby! As I stood in front of the mirror, I asked myself, “How the hell did I get here?” Part CEO, part personal development wonk, and part biohacker info geek, King is a self-confessed serial entrepreneur. While his favorite book list contains many success-oriented and personal-development classics, the classic definition of achieving success (e.g. make a lot of money) is not what inspires or motivates King. He follows more of a “you aren’t doing well unless you’re also doing some good” line of thinking. King’s company has been built around the simple principle of “do the right thing.” Founded by King in 1999, Stevia Brands Inc. is one of the largest importers, manufacturers and distributors of clean-label sweetening systems and natural sweeteners. Emulating such renowned entrepreneurs such as the Wright Brothers and Steve Jobs, King started his company by first asking the critical question, “Why?” Based on the understanding that it’s only by determining the “why” of what you want to do that you can achieve lasting success, King’s business isn’t simply something he does for a living. It stands as a testament to who he is, what he does and how he lives his life. King’s “why” is simple. A bit of a foodie and health nut, food has always been a passion for King — particularly high-quality food that makes the planet a healthier place and maintains a level of sustainability. He founded Steviva as a way to effectively help combat metabolic disease and the “diabesity” (his self-coined term) epidemic in this country by offering clean-label sweetening systems to replace sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup.
Considering Happiness We live in challenging times in America… If you’re like me, some days just looking at the headlines can cause your blood pressure to spike. An unquestioned, twisted golden rule of 24/7 fearful outrage now dominates digital media. The underlying assumption seems to be that everything is horrible, so you have no right to happiness. On October 1, 2017, I was spending the weekend away in exotic Las Vegas. I was staying on the 23rd floor of the Luxor Hotel, with a motion picture approved view of the mass shooting site where 58 people died and 500 were injured. As the police scanner app informed us of an ever-widening swath of shooting reports and bomb threats, I remember choosing to redirect my focus from the crazy scene below, where the shooter next door at Mandalay Bay was still at large, and to gaze up toward the perfectly luminous Harvest moon, remembering that the bloodshed happening below was not likely to rock her from her serene, beautiful orbit. Desert animals and insects would most certainly be carrying on their hunting, foraging, and making little animals and bugs. Most of the world would be going on quite well only a few miles away. That gave me peace, a form of real happiness. It helped me to maintain my composure and even a vestige of humor, my go-to upper. What if Happiness were a tiny, nearly forgotten muscle wedged somewhere between hope and giddiness that we could flex instead of the despair, outrage, and depression that have become way too familiar since 2017? For your consideration, I’m sharing this, my seasonal exploration into how other cultures describe their many different experiences of happiness, such as love, the seasons, food, friendship, sex, hobbies, music, and dance. We will be getting a broader context for considering how we can enjoy satisfying, even rapturous, ooey-gooey heartwarmingly powerful states of HAPPINESS. I invite you to travel through the seasons with me as we explore ways to Happiness, both foreign and domestic. Sincerely, Lori Randall Stradtman
We are back with another banger! We sat down with the one and only Butch Bradley; well renown resident headliner at the LA Comedy Club in Las Vegas and all around great guy. He drops comedy knowledge and many life lessons about his travels around the world and his upbringing in comedy. We also had back the lovely Cecelia Lee; local comedian and known to be terrified of Mummies and super fan of Benny Hill. We touch on important topics such as the Logan Paul suicide forest debacle. We get mad spiritual and talk about ghosts, ball lightning, psychics and Yisel Orozco drops mad past lives info. We debate over which movie is better in the time travel genre; Time Cop vs Looper. Lastly we dive in head first into the haunting of the Luxor Hotel and Berto gets ancient with his Mummy voice over, plus so much more. This is the continuation of last week's podcast - In this episode I interview the very funny Blue Collar Comic, Larry the Cable Guy. He is commonly connected with his stereotypical redneck appearance, thick Southern accent, and trademark catch phrase, "Git-R-Done". Commenting on this interview is Carrot Top. What most people don't know that links these two together is that they both started doing stand-up at the same time in Florida. His act can be seen in his Las Vegas show at the Luxor Hotel.
