What a lovely weekend I had in Texas visiting my Aunt! It was jam packed with artistic and cultural experiences. A very special Friday morning was a studio visit with my Instagram Robin Maria Pedrero. It was our first time to meet in person and we had so much to discuss. On my return to Michigan, I said to Armin that we needed to invite her to be our podcast guest and here we are! Robin Maria Pedrero creates with skillful use of color and texture to bring to life unique works of art. An award-winning artist, her work appears in museum permanent collections in Florida and Greece as well as corporate collections, publications, and film. Her first solo museum exhibition took place at the Orlando Museum of Art followed by the Lake County Museum of Art in Florida. She is an elected signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and in 2012, was awarded Best Artist in Florida by Baterbys' Art Auction Gallery. Pedrero is listed in Florida International Magazine's Florida Artists Hall of Fame, and she won an international wine label contest with her art featured on a limited-edition Artiste Wine label in California.   Pedrero's artwork has been selected by Tamara Day for Bargain Mansions and featured on HGTV and Magnolia Network. Her work has been collected around the world in several countries.  Currently, Pedrero creates from her studio at Millhouse in the Cotton Mill in McKinney Texas.Armin and I talked with Armin about her different revenue streams for her art, her beautiful studio in the Millhouse Mckinney complex, and Robin's role as artist and curator for different exhibits throughout the world. If you are ever in the Dallas area be sure to check out her studio in Millhouse located in McKinney, an arty suburb with a super ambiance of history, art and dining. Check out all the show notes. Pick-your-own is an underused marketing channel for local vegetable and flower farms, one that could be transformative if PYO were implemented on anywhere near the scale of farmers markets or CSAs. Megan Neubauer of Pure Land Farm in McKinney, Texas is here to tell us how, after struggling with farmers markets, she made PYO more profitable and efficient for her farm. She used these experiences to write the book, Pick-Your-Own Farming: Free Yourself from Farmers Markets and Join the Agritourism Revolution. Learn how to deal with “customer blight,” why she charges admission, how they choose good PYO crops, and what veg and flower crops those are. It all adds up to making double or triple what they made at farmers markets in just eight weeks of PYO (though of course it takes more than eight weeks of farm work to make that happen).Megan didn't start her career in farming — she has a BS in Biology from Boston University and worked for several years in biotech and scientific research. But in 2012, Megan and her father started their farm together using regenerative growing methods on three acres of thornless blackberries and two acres of diversified fruits and vegetables, exclusively marketing their products using agritourism. They offer their local customers a uniquely diverse pick-your-own or u-pick experience, which you can hear about on this week's Growing for Market Podcast. Connect With Guest:Read her book: Pick-Your-Own Farming: Free Yourself from Farmers Markets and Join the Agritourism RevolutionEmail: megan@purelandorganic.comWebsite: www.purelandorganic.comFacebook: @purelandfarmInstagram: @purelandfarmTikTok: @purelandfarm Podcast Sponsors:Huge thanks to our podcast sponsors as they make this podcast FREE to everyone with their generous support: Tired of admin work and technology trouble? Welcome back ATO Family Today we are sitting with one of the original members of the Dallas Police Fugitive Unit in Daniel Jamieson. Daniel hired on with the Dallas Police Department in February of 2008 and trained at the Southeast Patrol before moving to Northwest Patrol. In 2012 Dallas Police Chief David Brown created a brand-new unit called METRO that was designed to follow violent crime trends and began hunting fugitives in the City. In 2017 this unit morphed into the new Fugitive, and they quickly became every investigative units new best friend as they tracked and hunted down the City's most violent offenders. Daniel found himself to have a knack for using intelligence and his relentless desire to catch the bad guy as he excelled as a plain clothes Detective in this unit. This episode will follow the career of an extremely dedicated and accomplished husband, father and law enforcement officer that survived officer involved shootings, tragedy from July 7th, and the successes of putting handcuffs on some of the most evil people in Dallas Texas. However, in May of 2022 life turned on a dime for this incredible servant as he found himself in a nightmare as he was arrested for DWI and his life and career would be forever changed. We are hoping this episode could serve as a cautionary tale to everyone that wakes up every day and struggles with life to know that demons, left unchecked, can change lives forever. Even heroes can stumble. To tell this story one of Daniel's great friends, Sgt. Omar Figueroa sits in to have his partners back as he exhibits the utmost vulnerability as he shares this story in hopes that others can learn from his successes and his failures. Nancy Newton Bio Nancy was born in Houston, Texas, and was a Physical Therapist turned stay at home Mom who dabbled in her Catholic church Music Ministry for a time as she was raising her 3 children.  When she returned to her job as a PT at the age of 46 after a 9-year hiatus, she began her long painful descent into the slow process of becoming addicted to alcohol.  This descent included a resurgence of a food/exercise addiction that she had struggled with most of her life from the early teen years but was able to recover from when she found her way into the rooms of Overeaters Anonymous in her 30's, her first exposure to a 12-step program. This progressed in her 50's to more regular drinking, and by the time she was in her late 50's and early 60's, a full-on addiction to a daily intake of alcohol which often included a full bottle of wine or 2 very strong frozen margaritas from the local Mexican food restaurant, and perhaps some additional topping off to get through the day.   She also relapsed into her binging/starving/overexercising addiction until she was 50+ pounds heavier and suffering from extreme depression, lack of motivation and the desire to socially isolate, inability to sleep and the need for increased anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medicines to cope. There were multiple attempts to quit alcohol and food abuse, trying therapy and even walking through the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous. These attempts were in vain until one day she discovered The Naked Mind book by Annie Grace. On August 4, 2022, she began her journey into sobriety.   On the Naked Mind website she found the information that led her to the Thursday am early doors Sobertown Zoom meetings. (Thank you, Fluffy All Heart!!!) Getting out of isolation and reconnecting to others in those sessions allowed her to find the strength and courage to take the necessary steps to get sober.  She now is 19 months sober and embarking on a new life after slowly beginning to implement the tools she found necessary to her sobriety.  These tools include daily Yoga, meditation, inspirational music, reading, cardiovascular exercise, healthy eating, Sobertown Zoom meetings, and reestablishing or finding new ways to connect to others.  These tools allow her to go through life more mindfully, cherishing the relationships between family and friends and understanding the real meaning and purpose for her life.   In November, after a return home from a trip to Spain, she was painfully aware of her longstanding tendency to set goals and reach them while not at all being mindful or enjoying the process.  It became a real source of frustration for her and the main topic of discussion in a therapy session.  There, her therapist of many years, introduced her to Kirtana and the Deathbed song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1khh5AHacgU This one song began some new insights into how she would begin to make the necessary changes in the last quarter of her life so that she would not miss out on any of the “holy” moments that give life meaning for her: Connection to others, Courage to step out of her comfort zones, Calmness and moving more slowly through her day, and following through on all Commitments she makes to others.  This has become a daily practice as she starts each day.   She hopes that her story of her journey will inspire others to hang in there through the process of becoming sober. Change can be slow, and it is so important to look at this process as an unfolding of possibilities that will continue to move in a forward direction, if you commit to staying on the path. It is worth every bit of grit and determination that is required.                                                         Nancy is retired, and currently lives with her wonderful husband of 40 years in McKinney Texas.      Other Sober Resources: I Am Sober App Getting Sober ...Again Boom Rethink The Drink Recovery Movie Meet-Ups No Sippy No Slippy. We started our Travel Brat Texas trip by flying Delta into Dallas, picking up a car from my fave new rental car company, Thrifty, and scooting over to the most beautiful little historic town. The historic town of McKinney, Texas, was about 45 minutes from the airport and a must-visit hidden gem on the outskirts of Dallas! We stayed in the most charming hotel- The Grand Hotel of McKinney. The Grand Hotel was built in 1885 by the Heard Brothers. When built, the Grand consisted of an original 14 rooms, a Grand Ballroom, and Rick's Chophouse. It was only 15,000 square feet! Later, the Tower was added, expanding the hotel to 45 rooms. From the Willy Nelson book in our room to the Grand Ballroom and rustic red brick walls, the Grand Hotel was charming from head to toe. My favorite part was the tasteful paintings on every floor and in every room, and the little library at the end of the hall right by our room!Check out the Grand Hotel's Experience Page for the 411 on McKinney. The town of McKinney was quaint and charming. For morning coffee, there are two great spots: Layered and Filtered. Layered had the best hot chocolate and a killer lavender late. The most remarkable addition to the restaurant was the little robot cat tray that brought out our food. France held out for a 2-1 win that sent the defending champions back to the semifinals and England home. Penalties have cost the Three Lions time and again at major tournaments. But Kane still faced a test of nerve from the spot when standing over the ball in the 84th minute. FIFA – Mbappé to face good friend Hakimi in World Cup semifinal Kylian Mbappé is going to meet his good friend Achraf Hakimi again at this World Cup. The France star went to visit his Paris Saint-Germain teammate at the Morocco team hotel in downtown Doha last week. Mbappé will be marked by Hakimi in a World Cup semifinal on Wednesday. His path to Morocco’s goal down the French left wing blocked by a player he has called the best right-back in the world. Their friendship in Paris had bonded over music, video games and choreographed goal celebrations. Only one friend can advance to a World Cup final against Argentina or Croatia. FIFA – Ronaldo says his dream of winning World Cup has ‘ended’ Cristiano Ronaldo has said in a cryptic social media post that his dream of winning the World Cup with Portugal has ended. But he stopped short of announcing his retirement from international duty. The 37-year-old Ronaldo left the field in tears after Portugal lost 1-0 to Morocco in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Ronaldo said Sunday on Instagram in his first comments after the elimination that it was “time to take stock.” But he didn’t explicitly say if he wants to carry on being available for Portugal. Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in men’s international soccer with 118 goals. He said putting Portugal “on the highest level in the world” was his biggest dream. FIFA – After Neymar, Croatia aims to end Messi’s World Cup dream Croatia has already ended Neymar’s World Cup dream by beating Brazil in the quarterfinals. Now it hopes to do the same to Lionel Messi in the semifinals on Tuesday. The 2018 runner-up Croatia is the next obstacle for Argentina to overcome as Messi bids to win the one major trophy that has eluded him. Croatia was beaten by France in the final in Russia and is on its own mission to go one step further this time.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

That’s according to Roger Carstens, the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, who helped secure the basketball star's release and bring her back to the U.S. last week. Carstens told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that Griner walked throughout the plane, introducing herself to every member of the flight crew, shaking their hands, and “making a personal connection with them.” NCAAFB – College Football – Week 15 Saturday Army 20, Navy 17 – 2OT                 1ST Overtime game in the 123 year history of the Army/Navy Game NCAAFB – Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo out after 15 seasons as coach Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo is out after 15 seasons at the helm. France held out for a 2-1 win that sent the defending champions back to the semifinals and England home. Penalties have cost the Three Lions time and again at major tournaments. They have lost shootouts on seven occasions in World Cups and European Championships since 1990. It didn't come down to that against France. His path to Morocco's goal down the French left wing blocked by a player he has called the best right-back in the world. Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in men's international soccer with 118 goals. He said putting Portugal “on the highest level in the world” was his biggest dream. FIFA – After Neymar, Croatia aims to end Messi’s World Cup dream Croatia has already ended Neymar's World Cup dream by beating Brazil in the quarterfinals. Now it hopes to do the same to Lionel Messi in the semifinals on Tuesday. The 2018 runner-up Croatia is the next obstacle for Argentina to overcome as Messi bids to win the one major trophy that has eluded him. Croatia was beaten by France in the final in Russia and is on its own mission to go one step further this time.Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams reacts after catching a touchdown pass during the first half of an NFL football game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, in Detroit. Back after a bit of a break Krys leads off strong with tales of McKinney Texas and some of it's haunted hot spots. Starting with Buckner Cemetery aka O'Brien Cemetery, this place of burial was the spot of public executions and as well as a marketplace during said executions. The ghost of an indigenous person is said to haunt the spot. Next up the Celt Irish Pub and it's famous poker playing outlaw Jesse James. This building has been through different stages and has some permanent residents. Chestnut Square Historic Village is our last stop in McKinney and this shows off the way of life from 1854-1920. This place has some of Krys's favorite ghosts, kid ghosts. Tori comes in second with the tale of Deadwood, South Dakota. This wild west frontier town is in an area that proves once again, white people suck. This town was home to such notable figures such as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Seth Bullock, and Al Swearengen. These folks seem to be staying around for much longer than mortal years. Finishing up we have Mt. Moriah Cemetery because really?
