This week, we're celebrating two timeless soundtracks with the legendary Paul Williams, the award-winning songwriter behind Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas and The Muppet Movie, including the beloved classic (as well as my favorite song of all time) “Rainbow Connection.” Paul shares the stories behind these unforgettable soundtracks & the films they're connected to, his creative partnership with Jim Henson, and what it's like bringing heart, humor, and hope to generations through music. We also dive into his work as President of ASCAP, his collaborations with Daft Punk, Portugal. The Man, Willie Nelson, Jason Mraz, and more, along with stories from Phantom of the Paradise and another Muppet holiday classic, The Muppet Christmas Carol. If you grew up loving The Muppets, know every step of Carrots the Dancing Horse's routine, or find yourself rocking out to the Riverbottom Nightmare Band every holiday season, I promise this episode is as sweet as honeysuckle on the vine, ma!

How do we achieve hope and salvation when we’re surrounded by darkness? That’s what Revs. Trudy and Hannah ask as they enter week two of Our Advent Mix Tape. For inspiration and wisdom, they turn to Isaiah’s prophetic song, which sings praises of thanksgiving for salvation during a time when the Israelites are exiled. Despite their dark circumstances, Isaiah’s song invites the Israelite to image when lightness could be – a way to inspire hope in others to take radical moves to bring about change. The song, found in Isaiah 12:1-6, also highlights individual as well as communal praise and thanksgiving, speaking to the need for both personal and community salvation, a core component of Methodist theology: “There is no personal holiness without social holiness” – a phrase popularized by John Wesley. Through the course of the digital Bible study conversation, the female pastors of the First United Methodist Church of San Diego look closely at Isaiah’s metaphor of the wells of salvation, and ultimately ask: What does salvation look like today? What does Isaiah’s song mean to us in 2025? Is there a universality to salvation that’s available for all cultures and faith traditions? We invite you to continue the pastors’ conversation as you journey through Advent. Join our in-person Convergence group, visit our Patreon Channel, or gather friends and family to discuss these reflection questions: What is salvation for you? How is your salvation related to the salvation of the community? How do you participate in salvation? Want to hear the rest of Our Advent Mixtape? Join us for all four episodes (Season 3, Episodes 13-16) for reflections on the Advent and Christmas promises of peace, hope, joy, and love. New episodes drop Sunday mornings.

Figgy's Mixtape covers stuffed-animal drama at Killen's, a championship game that went down in Vegas, and the wild story of a rapper stabbing a hardcore fan as part of an initiation.
ITL breaks down every path to a Texans win — and all the ways it could slip away — in this Chiefs edition of Texans Win Because, Texans Lose Because. Then Figgy's Mixtape covers stuffed-animal drama at Killen's, a championship game that went down in Vegas, and the wild story of a rapper stabbing a hardcore fan as part of an initiation.
ITL questions whether Nick Caley's grilling changed your confidence in the Texans' offense and whether the Chiefs are playing mind games after both teams' special-teams struggles. B Scott joins to react to TNF and shut down cold-weather excuses. We dig into Something, Nothing, or Everything? for Texans–Chiefs, hit Lunch-Time Confessions, and preview a big CFB weekend. Then we wrap with Texans Win Because, Texans Lose Because and a wild Figgy's Mixtape featuring stuffed-animal drama, a Vegas title game, and a shocking fan initiation story.

In this week's mixtape rewind, we go back a couple of years to when Matt and Sam did a deep dive into music supergroups.Imagine loading a playlist where legends keep walking through the door. That's the ride we built as we dive into supergroups that actually deliver, from the crunch of Audioslave and the finesse of Cream to the indie cohesion of Boygenius and the pure joy of the Traveling Wilburys. We chase the central mystery behind these collaborations: when distinct sounds collide, what holds, what changes, and why does it matter? We start with the gravitational pull of great voices. Chris Cornell gives Audioslave immediate identity while Tom Morello adds that unmistakable edge, and Maynard James Keenan turns A Perfect Circle into a masterclass in mood without copying Tool. Then we test chemistry in the engine room: Chickenfoot fires up old-school rock craftsmanship, and Them Crooked Vultures stretch grooves into cinematic builds powered by Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones. For a genre swerve, Mount Westmore brings bass and swagger with Snoop, Too Short, E-40, and Ice Cube trading bars like it's a victory lap.Contrast keeps the mix alive. Wild Flag threads surfy drums with indie bite, and Boygenius shows how three solo voices can trade lead without crowding the song. Prophets of Rage fuse protest and power, pulling rap and rock tight around a sharp social focus, while The Highwaymen remind us that sometimes the most classic move—four giants trading verses—still lands hardest. And to cap it all, the Traveling Wilburys prove that when Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty decide to have fun, the hooks practically write themselves.Be Yourself by AudioslaveBig Subwoofer by MOUNT WESTMOREWhite Room by CreamDown the Drain by ChickenfootElephants by Them Crooked VulturesRomance by WILD FLAGPassive by A Perfect CircleBruised by The BensLiving on the 110 by Prophets of RageHighwayman by HighwaymanSatanist by boygeniusWilbury Twist by The Traveling Wilburys Support the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

Today we pay tribute to one of rock music's most legendary bass players, Gary "Mani" Mounfield of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. We lost Mani in late November - far too soon. As tributes have poured in from many of our favorite bands including Oasis and Richard Ashcroft, we wanted to pay our own tribute to honor the man whose music and signature bass lines have left a lasting mark on all of us. In this episode, Brad and Carla reference The Rockonteurs podcast episode featuring Mani that aired in October. You can listen to it here (Apple, Spotify)Find the Playlist on Spotify + Apple Music. ITL digs into whether the Texans can win in more than one way offensively, then reacts to Chris Paul's exit from L.A. and the idea of a Rockets reunion, before shifting to a busy NFL slate with Deshaun Watson's practice window opening and rising noise around Mike Tomlin. The show also debates who deserves more credit for Houston's turnaround — DeMeco Ryans or Nick Caserio — mixed in with Lunch-Time Confessions and Judge John Lopez weighing in on Zion's future. And to close things out, ITL asks whether this is the Texans' best shot at a Super Bowl, followed by a wild Figgy's Mixtape featuring a Houston barbershop cockfighting ring and a chilling murder-trial search history read in court.
Figgy's Mixtape goes off the rails — from a Houston barbershop doubling as a cockfighting ring to an accused murderer's chilling search history read in court, and more.

Some of the wildest mishaps during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.Episode 222 kicks off December and the Holiday Season with a package of GenX nostalgia tucked neatly under the tree.It all begins with a celebration of the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, on what would have been his 77th birthday. A creator of heavy metal, a celebrated icon of music, a reality TV star, and more. Ozzy transcended music and became a pop culture legend. We dive deep into his life and the accomplishments of the man himself.Awkward interactions, questionable hygiene, and seriously weak attempts at humor. You'll find all of this and more in a hilariously dated employee training video from Subway in 1993. All you need to know is there is a pie chart of customer complaints, with one of them being not wearing gloves, and the very next scene is an employee making a sub without gloves. A classic video for sure.Thanksgiving might be over but there is more turkey day fun to be had. In a new Top 5 we look at some of the biggest Macy's Day Parade mishaps. This week on My Weekly Mixtape, I'm reflecting on the songs that shaped my love of music — as well as the person who made it all possible, my father, who we sadly lost to pancreatic cancer earlier this year. In this episode, I'm diving into 20 tracks that I'm eternally grateful & thankful for. Each one is tied to a moment, memory, lesson, or simply a staple of the famed “Friday Night Music Night” events I would enjoy with my parents growing up. The songs he shared with me growing up, taught me how to listen to music — and, now in hindsight, also taught me how music can truly bridge generations. I love you Dad. If this episode resonated with you, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, so hopefully one day we can end this horrible disease once and for all.

Sunday Morning Service Series - Mix Tape - a verse by verse study through the book of 1st & 2nd Thessalonians: Today we cover 2 Thessalonians Ch 1 verses 1-12, Keep Holding On! Paul has many pleasant memories of the days he spent with the infant Thessalonian church. Their faith, hope, love, and perseverance in the face of persecution are exemplary. Paul's labors as a spiritual parent to the fledging church have been richly rewarded, and his affection is visible in every line of his letter. Paul encourages them to excel in their newfound faith, to increase in their love for one another, and to rejoice, pray, and give thanks always. Advent—the time in between—is here. But many of us struggle to feel “Christmas-y” when life isn’t where we hoped it would be. If peace feels out of tune for you right now, this episode is for you. Join Rev. Trudy and Rev. Brittany – two of the three female pastors of First United Methodist Church of San Diego – as they discuss their Advent Mixtape, exploring how ancient and modern songs can ground us in peace in a world that never stops moving. While most Christmas songs feel light, airy, and escapist – giving the false perception that peace is only achievable in stillness and calm, David’s Psalmody, Psalm 96 – one of the “lesser-known songs of Christmas” – provides a more honest and hopeful vision of peace. In this progressive digital Bible-study conversation, explore: The meaning of Advent as a season of the in-between What “salvation” means in the Hebrew Bible and Psalms How nature participates in healing, peace, and salvation The difference between societal peace and inward peace Practices and touchstones to stay centered amid holiday chaos How music helps reset our anxiety and restore calm We invite you to keep the conversation going as you journey through Advent. Join our in-person Convergence group, visit our Patreon Channel, or gather friends and family to discuss these reflection questions: What role does music play in your wellbeing? What is the “in-between” of here and not yet that you are in right now? What role does nature play in your understanding of being made whole? Want to hear the rest of Our Advent Mixtape? Join us for Season 3, Episodes 14-16, for reflections on hope, joy, and love. New episodes drop Sunday mornings. In today’s episode, we share a selection from Psalm 96 (NRSV), and, as a bonus treat, the full psalm from The Message translation below. As you read it, consider: What tune do you think would fit this modern translation of the ancient song? Psalms 96 1-2a Sing God a brand-new song! Earth and everyone in it, sing! Sing to God—worship God! 2b-3 Shout the news of his victory from sea to sea, Take the news of his glory to the lost, News of his wonders to one and all! 4-5a For God is great, and worth a thousand Hallelujahs. His furious beauty puts the other gods to shame; Pagan gods are mere tatters and rags. 5b-6 God made the heavens— Royal splendor radiates from him, A powerful beauty sets him apart. 7Bravo, God, Bravo! Everyone join in the great shout: Encore! In awe before the beauty, in awe before the might. 8-9Bring gifts and celebrate, Bow before the beauty of God, Then to your knees—everyone worship! 10Get out the message—God Rules! He put the world on a firm foundation; He treats everyone fair and square. 11Let’s hear it from Sky, With Earth joining in, And a huge round of applause from Sea. 12Let Wilderness turn cartwheels, Animals, come dance, Put every tree of the forest in the choir— 13An extravaganza before God as he comes, As he comes to set everything right on earth, Set everything right, treat everyone fair. All this & much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is a podcast that thinks it's a radio show...because it used to be one. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004. It phoenixed into a podcast in 2020, thanks to the fine and fabulously furious folks at NRM Streamcast.
