My guest this week is Dr. Wendy Suzuki. ​​In this episode Dr. Wendy and I discuss anxiety through perhaps a different lens. It's no surprise most kids and adults are experiencing higher than typical levels of anxiety in recent years. We've talked about anxiety in various ways on the show previously. But today, I want to take a bit of a different approach and help normalize the experience of anxiety and the full realm of associated uncomfortable feelings that happen in our lives and in our kids' lives. Believe it or not, anxiety is important for us to experience, and what we do with our anxiety and what we teach our kids to do can make all the difference between progressing and thriving, or getting stuck and feeling helpless. Let's dive in to discuss the importance of neuroplasticity and why anxiety can be healthy. Could anxiety be a clue to what we need more or less of to be our healthiest, best selves? Dr. Wendy Suzuki is the award-winning Dean of the School of Arts and  Sciences at New York University where she studied as a professor,  the effects of physical activity and meditation on the brain.  She is also a TED speaker and best-selling author of the book, Healthy Brain Happy Life that was recently made into a PBS special. VideoWise allows e-commerce owners to connect their Shopify store with TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and other social media channels to add product review videos and other forms of user-generated content (UGC). E-commerce owners are also free to upload videos from their libraries. VideoWise significantly increases conversion rates for e-commerce stores on both desktop and mobile. On average, if you have 250,000 website visitors, VideoWise increases your revenue by $20,000. That's almost 10¢ per visitor. As for pricing, they only charge $49 per month and 2% of direct video sales. A direct video sale is when a customer converts within your product video. If they watch the video and buy your product elsewhere, this does not constitute a direct sale. Their analytical tools are also top-notch. On your analytics page, you can see the number of views for each video, average watch times, direct sales, and more. The Founder and CEO of VideoWise, Claudiu Cioba prides himself on being transparent about conversion. Here are just a couple of examples of how you can save money with proper tax planning: Startup Cost Deduction This startup cost allows US entrepreneurs to claim a deduction of up to $5000 for any business cost up until the point their business is created. This includes product research, travel, and work with lawyers and accountants. You just need to keep your receipts and documentation. Home Office Deduction There are two ways you can claim a tax deduction from running your business at home. The first way is the Simplified Calculated Method in which the highest deduction available is $1500. The second method is more complicated but lucrative: The Actual Expenses Method. The actual expense method takes the square footage of your office space as a percentage of your total home. Your tax deduction can then cover whatever cost is included in that percentage. That includes rent, mortgage, or even repair maintenance. The biggest deduction FreeCashFlow.io has claimed for their client using this method is $14,000. When you look for it, there is a thriving community of business owners ready and willing to help each other out. Reflections from Dan Kennedy and Tim Ferriss “The company that can spend the most to acquire a customer wins.” - Dan Kennedy Dan Kennedy is an absolute legend in direct response marketing, but Daniel believes that there's more to acquiring customers than money. If you understand the buyer persona better than your competitors, you can still win. Even if you have less money. Gymshark, for example, began in 2013 as a relatively tiny competitor to other sports brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Puma. Its Founder and CEO, Ben Francis, identified a niche that his competitors had failed to fit. In other words, he sought to serve his buyer persona. While Gymshark is not as huge as Nike just yet, it grew exponentially over a few short years, valuing at over $1.45 billion in 2022. It's safe to say that Gymshark hasn't been suffocated by its competition. “What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.” Tim Ferriss Now, this is something Daniel agrees with! Take a moment to think about your deepest fears. That's the first step in addressing them. Daniel's biggest fears are deep water and heights. And guess what he has planned? Deep diving, sky diving, and mountain climbing! Feeling the fear and doing it anyway is not only a huge confidence boost, it trains you to power through difficult situations. I'm doing a tarot reading for everyone around unconditional love and talking about spiritual anger and connecting to strong feelings. I'm telling you a little story about the lessons I am learning around unconditionally loving myself to set the scene for the reading. It obviously involves tennis and dogs because, well, it's me. I'd like to give you the tools to have an incredible life and have ways to turn it around when you are feeling low. But let's face it, even I can't help you if you don't want to help yourself. Sometimes as empaths, we think that we can help everybody, but if the person we are trying to help is not willing to receive help or transformation, nothing will change. Mr. Owl showed up last week again, and he brought incredible wisdom for me around believing in myself, especially right now when I'm making changes in my life and business. It made me reflect on what my life could have been if my family had believed in me. And I know a lot of you can relate to that. But the thing is, our lives get to be as impressive as we want them to be if we can learn how to have a dialogue with it and the Universe. It can be through our guides, or journaling, or praying. If you're on a path right where you're really challenging yourself, you're really changing, and you're really transforming, get into dialogue with yourself. If you're looking to grow and expand, get into dialogue with your inner being. Put your hands on your heart, breathe into your heart even if you don't know what it is you're looking for, and then connect with the Universe. The Universe will respond. You know I like to be honest about what's happening in my life. I have shared a lot about myself in this podcast, and today is no different. I wanted to share with you how I have been going through the SASS technique over 24 hours every day for the past few days. I feel like a lot of us are at the end of a chapter. We are going to be talking about intuition. I have to tell you, it's not a word I use a lot. It's not a skill I teach a lot. But it's been a word that's coming up a lot with people, and I find it really fascinating. So today, I'm bringing some intuition tools so you can develop it, hone it and understand it more. We'll also talk about understanding other gifts and how they may play with your intuition.  When I'm using my intuition, I may also be using my empathic ability, or my claircognizance, or my clairaudience, or my clairvoyance. Published Apr 7, 2017 5 PRO TIPS FOR FACEBOOK ADVERTISING We mentioned in a previous video that Facebook has a habit of using jargon that goes over people's heads. Facebook seems to answer only to itself - For those who have looked in the Facebook forums for help - You know that there's more questions than answers. It feels like you're wading through a sea of confusion. Just a quick FYI - Last month we created a comprehensive list that explains all of Facebook's confusing jargon in simple terms. Now all of these fancy Facebook words are great - But if you're using the big blue giant for marketing, there's only one thing that really matters right? - Return on Investment. So how exactly do you work that out? If you look at your ads manager dashboard you've probably found there's a lot of data. Data that can be displayed in a number of fancy ways - But it never really translates to a payoff. Campaign Screenshot You can see here that we got 9,511 results for our $210 ad spend - That's great, but what does it mean? TIP #1 - THE WORD “RESULTS” CAN MEAN ANYTHING This is the number one confusion for people using Facebook Ads Manager for marketing - The word "results". So what does it mean? - The answer is... “it depends” But let us explain that a bit further. When we say “it depends”, we mean it depends on what you chose when you setup the campaign. Ads Manager Screenshot When you first clicked “Create Ad” and saw this screen, whatever you chose becomes what Facebook considers a result. It could be website traffic, video views or even someone physically visiting your store! To make sure you don't forget what you originally chose as your goal, make sure to name campaigns something meaningful. You'll thank yourself in the future. TIP #2 - GET A SECOND OPINION WITH GOOGLE ANALYTICS If you're using Facebook to drive traffic to your website - And we hope you are - Then you should be tracking traffic through Google Analytics as well. Facebook can show you how many people clicked on the link to your website, but not very much after that. Google Analytics Screenshot Of course you want to know how much traffic comes from Facebook - This can be done in Google Analytics by going to Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium. But what's more important than the traffic is the website engagement. Remember, website engagement is a huge ranking factor - Google loves it. You need to look at things like bounce rate, time on site and average page views of your Facebook traffic - Especially around the spikes as this will relate to posts and ads that you published. Facebook is a great place to drive highly engaged traffic to your website - But don't just take Facebook's word for it - Check your Google Analytics. If you're not getting website engagement, the traffic isn't that worthwhile. TIP #3 - SHARES ARE THE SH*T Everyone with a personal Facebook profile knows that the status updates with more likes are better. Shares are often overlooked. But this completely the opposite when using facebook as a marketing tool for business promotion. The power of Facebook is in reach. If someone engages with your post, they are exposing your business to their friends and family. The average person has 338 friends - So every time someone interacts with your brand - They put your message in front of a potential 338 extra pairs of eyes. When you like a post, it will appear briefly in your activity feed - Almost nobody looks at this. Sometimes it will appear on your friend's timelines if it aligns with their interests. Post Share Facebook When you “Share” a post, it is permanently added to your timeline, and is guaranteed to be visible to your friends and family. It's there until you decide to take it down, or it is pushed down by status updates. Not only do shares reach more people, but they are basically an endorsement. A recommendation from a friend or family member. We've said before that influencer marketing is an extremely powerful strategy - Facebook Shares is influencer marketing at it's simplest. You can see that there's a lot more viral potential to shares as opposed to likes. Create “shareable” content and consider this a big factor of your Facebook post and Ad performance. TIP #4 - CHECK YOUR REPORTS! The great thing about Facebook is the vast amount of consumer data you have access to. You can advertise by age, gender, profession, location, interests and so much more. Having all this at your disposal is fantastic, but just because you “can” advertise to the perfect type of consumer doesn't mean you “should”. You need to start broad, then check the reports and make educated changes. Business Manager Screenshot Reports are found under your business manager menu, under More Tools > measure & Report > Ads Reporting. Manage Reports Screenshot What you want to do here is first create a new report, then select your date range, and select breakdown: none. This will show you a report of everything that has happened during that time. Export this report and you will get a spreadsheet that will let you look at everything about the customers you have spent ad dollars on. You want to see what type of people give you the best return. Play with the order of your columns and look for standout numbers - What is the age that converts the best? What location? What profession? What Time of day? You need to check these reports in as much detail as possible and use them to refine your saved audiences. It's also worth noting that these reports are unsampled data - Meaning that it is 100% accurate - Unlike the data in other areas of Facebook. To find out more about Facebook's data sampling check out our video “The Truth About Facebook's Ad Metrics”. An interesting metric of Facebook ads is that you can see Frequency. As explained in our Facebook Marketing Cheat Sheet - Frequency means “The average number of times a single person viewed your Ad”. Most marketers look at Ad Frequency like it's the devil, and when that number gets too high they pause the ad or can it altogether. Many people think an Ad Frequency above 3 as a waste of money. But what you need to consider is just how little people pay attention on social media. How much attention does your child need? Have you ever heard the phrase "You can't pour from an empty cup?" When we spend time with our children, do Special Time, listen and care for them, we naturally fill their cups with warmth and love. When a child has a full cup of your warmth and attention, they are less clingy. They are connected and confident. Attention-seeking kids have "Leaky Cups" Except for a child with a "leaky cup". These are the children that, no matter how much time, how much love and how much attention you seem to pour in STILL NEED MORE. Their cups are always leaky! They want more of your love. More of your attention. Or else you'll know about it! They need everything to go their way. They become rigid and controlling when it doesn't. They will whine, they will cry, they will throw themselves down on the floor in tears. They may become aggressive. Pretty soon, life can become a riddle of trying to divide time between all you need to do, and all they need to feel good. Exhausting? Yes. Everlasting? No! Taa-daa! Today we are celebrating our first special guest on the podcast, the wonderful Dr. Lawrence J. Cohen, psychologist and the author of Playful Parenting, The Opposite of Worry and co-author of The Art of Roughhousing. Talking Play Talk on this episode turns to two of Larry's favorites styles of play  - aggressive and risky play. If you've ever seen your child thrash a toy to pieces, order you locked in jail or speed down a steep slope on a skateboard you are probably aware of these play types and the stress they can cause us, as parents! Is our child too aggressive? Will they grow up aggressive? Shouldn't we be learning something? What if they get hurt? The Play is a Symbol When we can see these ways of playing as symbols of what's affecting a child, we can embrace them, because, as Larry says, when a child is laughing and engaged in aggressive play, we can be sure deep work is happening. But these can be the trickier bits of play to navigate. Larry helps us address the issues that come up when our children play aggressive or risky. What can we do with own fears when our children play aggressively? Why we should be joining our children in play How we can trust our children with their own risk management How we can stop saying "be careful," and start reflecting and wondering around play (or taking risks ourselves!)
