This Podcast Is Episode 566, And It's About Marketing Your Construction Business: How To Make It Work For You Marketing your construction business is crucial for its growth and success. You can use various strategies to promote your business, such as creating a website, networking, social media marketing, and advertising. Additionally, sponsoring events and collaborating with other companies can help you reach a wider audience.    I understand how daunting it can feel for construction business owners like you; we've been there. Whether you're new to the game or have been in business for a while and haven't quite cracked the code, navigating the marketing world can be overwhelming. But it doesn't have to be. Your business deserves to be seen, heard, and thriving—with the proper guidance, you can make marketing work for you. Let's unravel the puzzle, starting from square one.   1. Defining your target audience Know thy client: the key to tailored marketing. Before you shout your brand from the rooftops, you must know who you're calling to. Understand the demographics and psychographics of your ideal customer. Are they young professionals, parents, or retirees? What problems do they face that your product or service can solve? The better you know your customer, the better your marketing will resonate.   2. Uncover data gold with market research   Don't rely on guesswork. Dive into market research — it's how you find the "who" and the "why" of your business. This doesn't have to be a complex, expensive ordeal. Start with online surveys or asking family, relatives, and friends in your neighborhood, as well as interviews, social media insights, and competitor analysis. The information you gather here will be invaluable.   3. Set clear goals that spark direction The beacon of your marketing journey Without clear objectives, your marketing can feel scattered, like throwing darts in the dark. Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Are you aiming to increase website traffic by 30% in six months? Or boost sales by 15% at the end of the year? These goals keep you focused and make success less vague.   3. Develop a marketing strategy Mapping out your move Once you've defined your target audience and your goals, it's time to set your marketing strategy. Your marketing strategy is the "how" behind your goals. Identify which channels your audience frequents. If you're targeting working millennials, perhaps Instagram is for you. A well-thought-out marketing strategy aligns your business objectives with the most effective messaging and channels.   4. Consistency is king   Branding isn't just a logo or a tagline. It's the sum of all your customer interactions and experiences with your small construction business. Create a content calendar to ensure your brand is visible across all marketing platforms and your message remains consistent. This calendar should include blog posts, social media content, email campaigns, and any other touchpoints relevant to your audience.   5. Crafting compelling content The art of the story Your content should inspire, educate, or entertain — ideally, all three. Write as if you're speaking to a friend, addressing their problem with your service as the solution. Your content is the thread that weaves your story with your customers. Remember, compelling content isn't just about words. Images and videos can support your message.   Visuals – the silent sway   Humans are visual creatures. In fact, 90% of the information transmitted to the brain is visual. High-quality, eye-catching images and videos can convey your message faster and stickier than words alone. Share photos of your "before and after" service provided or a video demonstrating its benefits. The more senses you engage, the deeper your marketing will resonate.   6. Execution and monitoring: making it happen and seeing it through Take the plunge It's showtime! Execute your marketing plan with gusto. Use CRM (Client Relationship Management) tools like HubSpot for email campaigns to save time and stay on track. Remember, marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. Consistency and perseverance are key.   7. Learning from your results   Every marketing initiative is a learning opportunity. Use Google Analytics, social media insights, and customer feedback to monitor how your campaigns are performing against your goals. Identify what's working and what's not, and adjust accordingly. The more you learn, the smarter your marketing will become.   A word of encouragement and empowerment: You've got this!   Marketing can be a rollercoaster, with its ups and downs, but you've already taken the crucial first step – you're learning and adapting—trust in your journey, your construction business's uniqueness, and the value you provide. With persistence, creativity, and strategic thinking, your marketing activities will start to feel like second nature.   Embrace the adventure   Think of marketing as an adventure. You're the explorer, and every campaign is a new frontier. It's okay if there's trial and error and even better if there's growth. You're an integral part of the narrative, and your customer eagerly awaits your next chapter.   Remember, word-of-mouth referrals can also be a powerful marketing tool, so be sure to provide excellent service, build relationships with your clients, and ask for their feedback and referrals.    Now, take these steps, make them your own, and enter the world of marketing with confidence.   Your construction business isn't just another face in the crowd — unique, valuable, and deserving of a spotlight. Let's make that happen. ALEPH - GLOBAL SCRUM TEAM - Agile Coaching. Agile Training and Digital Marketing Certifications

Google Analytics is a powerful tool, but extracting valuable and useful insights can often feel like pulling teeth—especially for beginners. Hi, I'm Cally, from the International Institute of Digital Marketing. Here are 3 actionable ways to use Google Analytics to improve SEO. 1. Find low-hanging opportunities to boost traffic Consider whether a page is about a topic where freshness is a ranking factor. Second, if you see a significant organic traffic change to your homepage, it's usually down to a fluctuation in the search volume of navigational queries. Maybe you went viral six months ago, and more people were Googling your brand, but then it naturally dropped back to the mean? 2. Find high-converting pages and improve their SEO The ultimate goal of SEO is usually to drive more sales from organic search. One of the easiest ways to do that is to improve rankings for your most valuable pages. Hit the “SERP” button and compare your page's SEO metrics to those that outrank you. Take action to improve your page where it falls short. 3. Improve landing pages that contribute to conversions People rarely land on websites they've never visited before and buy something right away. They go on a journey, often visiting multiple pages on your site in the process. By default, Google Analytics credits 100% of the conversion to the last landing page the user visited (provided that it was a non-direct click). But the reality is that the person probably wouldn't have converted if they didn't read a blog post first. So technically, this page helped assist the conversion. Improving SEO for these pages will probably lead to an increase in conversions and revenue. If you're running an e-commerce store, you should be using #google #analytics. Few tools rival its importance. 1. Optimize content with on-site search Successful businesses are the ones providing valueto their customers. But how do you know what your customers want? #google #analytics has a built-in search term report that lets you view what your visitors are looking for on your site. No need for surveys or long conversations. Just pop in there and see the exact words, products, and content that your customers want to see. 2. Familiarize yourself with your buyer's journey Your buyer goes through a step-by-step processbefore he or she decides to finally purchase from you.the buyer's journey for each business looks a little different. It starts with personalized customer service. This is where the behavior flow reportcomes in. In this report, you can see exactly where the path of engagement ends. 3. Understand your customer's interests Every customer has their own unique reasonfor why they visit your platform. #google #analytics provides details of your customers' interests with its affinity categories report. 4. Measure the duration by which your leads convert The path length report shows you exactly how many interactions it takes before they purchase. You can also see the conversion value for each path length 5. Annotate for better seo management #google #analytics allows you to stay organized and informed through annotations. Keep track of occurrences so you know what is causing positive, or negative, changes on your website. Anything from a marketing campaign or website redesign to general news and the weather can be tracked. It's as easy as clicking the ‘create new annotation' button. 6. Map out on-site engagement The landing page report shows you a statistical view of the attention span of your visitors. You can see the duration and bounce rate for each page to see which pages get more engagementand which ones aren't providing value to visitors. 7. Realize customer value The lifetime value report tells you the value of each customerthroughout their journey with your company or brand. You can see the lifetime value of customers acquired through social, email, paid search, etc. For more information, visit www.thedigitalmarketinginstitute.org #analytics #sales #google #digitalmarketingsalary #whatisadigitalmarketing #digitalmarketingcompanies #digitalmarketingjobs #digitalmarketingcertificate #digitalmarketingcompany #digitalmarketingcourse #digitalmarketingservices #digitalmarketingstrategy #marketingdigital #digitalmarketingconsultant #digitalmarketingagencynearme #googledigitalmarketingcertification #digitalmarketingmanager #digitalmarketinginternship #digitalmarketinginstitute --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/iidmusa/message

What is Analytics anyway? Let's make sure we are on same page here and explain what I mean by Analytics. The term analytics itself means something like “numbers to analyze”. It's the words “Analyze” and “metrics” put together. I'm sure you know that analyze means to investigate, research and understand something. And Metrics is a means of measurement using numbers. So, when we talk about web sites, analytics refers to counting visitors, counting what they do and in what sequence. What does Google Analytics do? Our guest, Micah Mitchell, is an Infusionsoft coach and the CEO of membership site Memberium. He's here to share his knowledge and experience on how business owners can capitalize on marketing automation and software to grow their business. In this episode, Micah provides his insights on how marketing automation can either save or grow a business. Furthermore, he talks about the control a business owner acquires over their company using these tools. Finally, he provides solid business advice and what habits and mindsets a winning company should have. If you want to know how to be an effective entrepreneur using automation, don't miss this episode and tune in to the podcast! About Micah Micah Mitchell has been working with marketing automation through Infusionsoft ever since he dropped out of high school. He co-founded a membership site called Memberium and now coaches business owners on how to evolve their business mainly through online courses and training. Why You Need Marketing Automation In Your Business How He Started He dropped out of high school to work in customer relationship management (CRM) of a credit card processing company. The company grew because of memberships. He then left the company to become an entrepreneur and discovered Infusionsoft. Creating Information Products for Marketing Automation Create value from the problems you encounter and make content out of it. Shift from the “back-end” product/content development to the “front-end” marketing. Set up royalty agreements to protect both parties. Sustain and Protect Value for Clients Creating value for clients is easier than sustaining and protecting it. It is better to dive in as soon as possible and figure things out along the way. Marketing Automation: How to Avoid Mistakes Stop overcomplicating and over-engineering things. You should also focus on the simple processes and mechanisms that get the job done. How to Measure and Track Your Business Effectively Keep it simple (avoid over-tracking) Use Google Analytics and affiliate links for internal metrics “Most of the inference we get from statistics is wrong.” Building a Winning Company Hire slow; fire fast mentality (getting the right people is critical) People skills are overvalued; look for technically-skilled applicants. To the right person, punishments and incentives aren't that important. In employees, passion for the product is more important than being business-savvy. “The opportunity cost of not just a bad person, but a mediocre person is incredible when you could just as easily have had a good person by trying a little harder to get them.” Some Business Advice Invest in coaching as there is power in a single idea (millionaire coaching from Loral Langmeier). Make a habit of creating value from your problems and duplicating your efforts. The Future of Marketing Automation Multi-thousand dollar consulting will be within reach of the masses for a lower price point. Published Apr 7, 2017 5 PRO TIPS FOR FACEBOOK ADVERTISING We mentioned in a previous video that Facebook has a habit of using jargon that goes over people's heads. Facebook seems to answer only to itself - For those who have looked in the Facebook forums for help - You know that there's more questions than answers. It feels like you're wading through a sea of confusion. Just a quick FYI - Last month we created a comprehensive list that explains all of Facebook's confusing jargon in simple terms. Now all of these fancy Facebook words are great - But if you're using the big blue giant for marketing, there's only one thing that really matters right? - Return on Investment. So how exactly do you work that out? If you look at your ads manager dashboard you've probably found there's a lot of data. Data that can be displayed in a number of fancy ways - But it never really translates to a payoff. Campaign Screenshot You can see here that we got 9,511 results for our $210 ad spend - That's great, but what does it mean? TIP #1 - THE WORD “RESULTS” CAN MEAN ANYTHING This is the number one confusion for people using Facebook Ads Manager for marketing - The word "results". So what does it mean? - The answer is... “it depends” But let us explain that a bit further. When we say “it depends”, we mean it depends on what you chose when you setup the campaign. Ads Manager Screenshot When you first clicked “Create Ad” and saw this screen, whatever you chose becomes what Facebook considers a result. It could be website traffic, video views or even someone physically visiting your store! To make sure you don't forget what you originally chose as your goal, make sure to name campaigns something meaningful. You'll thank yourself in the future. TIP #2 - GET A SECOND OPINION WITH GOOGLE ANALYTICS If you're using Facebook to drive traffic to your website - And we hope you are - Then you should be tracking traffic through Google Analytics as well. Facebook can show you how many people clicked on the link to your website, but not very much after that. Google Analytics Screenshot Of course you want to know how much traffic comes from Facebook - This can be done in Google Analytics by going to Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium. But what's more important than the traffic is the website engagement. Remember, website engagement is a huge ranking factor - Google loves it. You need to look at things like bounce rate, time on site and average page views of your Facebook traffic - Especially around the spikes as this will relate to posts and ads that you published. Facebook is a great place to drive highly engaged traffic to your website - But don't just take Facebook's word for it - Check your Google Analytics. If you're not getting website engagement, the traffic isn't that worthwhile. TIP #3 - SHARES ARE THE SH*T Everyone with a personal Facebook profile knows that the status updates with more likes are better. Shares are often overlooked. But this completely the opposite when using facebook as a marketing tool for business promotion. The power of Facebook is in reach. If someone engages with your post, they are exposing your business to their friends and family. The average person has 338 friends - So every time someone interacts with your brand - They put your message in front of a potential 338 extra pairs of eyes. When you like a post, it will appear briefly in your activity feed - Almost nobody looks at this. Sometimes it will appear on your friend's timelines if it aligns with their interests. Post Share Facebook When you “Share” a post, it is permanently added to your timeline, and is guaranteed to be visible to your friends and family. It's there until you decide to take it down, or it is pushed down by status updates. Not only do shares reach more people, but they are basically an endorsement. A recommendation from a friend or family member. We've said before that influencer marketing is an extremely powerful strategy - Facebook Shares is influencer marketing at it's simplest. You can see that there's a lot more viral potential to shares as opposed to likes. Create “shareable” content and consider this a big factor of your Facebook post and Ad performance. TIP #4 - CHECK YOUR REPORTS! The great thing about Facebook is the vast amount of consumer data you have access to. You can advertise by age, gender, profession, location, interests and so much more. Having all this at your disposal is fantastic, but just because you “can” advertise to the perfect type of consumer doesn't mean you “should”. You need to start broad, then check the reports and make educated changes. Business Manager Screenshot Reports are found under your business manager menu, under More Tools > measure & Report > Ads Reporting. Manage Reports Screenshot What you want to do here is first create a new report, then select your date range, and select breakdown: none. This will show you a report of everything that has happened during that time. Export this report and you will get a spreadsheet that will let you look at everything about the customers you have spent ad dollars on. You want to see what type of people give you the best return. Play with the order of your columns and look for standout numbers - What is the age that converts the best? What location? What profession? What Time of day? You need to check these reports in as much detail as possible and use them to refine your saved audiences. It's also worth noting that these reports are unsampled data - Meaning that it is 100% accurate - Unlike the data in other areas of Facebook. To find out more about Facebook's data sampling check out our video “The Truth About Facebook's Ad Metrics”. An interesting metric of Facebook ads is that you can see Frequency. As explained in our Facebook Marketing Cheat Sheet - Frequency means “The average number of times a single person viewed your Ad”. Most marketers look at Ad Frequency like it's the devil, and when that number gets too high they pause the ad or can it altogether. Many people think an Ad Frequency above 3 as a waste of money. But what you need to consider is just how little people pay attention on social media. Most people are on Facebook while watching TV - they only really have one eye on the newsfeed, and pay even less attention to the right sidebar. A Frequency of 3 is perfectly acceptable for the main newsfeed. That's not just our personal opinion - psychology experts say that most people need to see something at least 3 times to remember it! We usually say anything up to 5 is nothing to worry about. So to recap: - The word “Results” is referring to what you chose as your campaign objective. - Use Google Analytics to see what happens to your traffic after they click on your Ads. - Shares are the best form of engagement on Facebook Ads and Promoted Posts - Check your reports to find out how to refine your audience - Allow a your Ads a bit of Frequency to maximise your Reach That's about all we have time for Australia, thanks for watching! - As always if you liked this video, please take the time to subscribe, follow us, or sign up for our newsletter! It's a story we hear over and over again. A roofing contractor tells of how digital marketing companies have cheated them in the past. The frustration is so intense, so palpable at times, that contractors can't even move forward and escape their situation. That's the greatest tragedy. We understand what it feels like to be disappointed and anxious. In today's podcast, Nolen and Jason discuss real world contractors who've gotten stuck in a vicious cycle of marketing failure. Thankfully, your business doesn't have to settle for mediocre business growth! We'll explore how your company can start over again with a new, productive marketing plan. Helpful Tips for Roofing Professionals Before trying to fix your marketing plan, try taking some time to clear your head. Use Google Analytics to see where your website is falling short. See what the top roofing companies in your community do with their website strategies. Try consulting with an expert before committing to one particular strategy. Turning Frustration into Action How can you take months (or even years) of disappointment, and turn them into success for your roofing company? It's an arduous process, but we've seen so many businesses turn their marketing around with fantastic results. It all starts with examining your current situation, removing hindrances, evaluating your strategy, and making baby steps towards success. You don't have to have the perfect marketing plan to earn a place among the top local companies. This process does require a clear head however, so give yourself some time to calm, organize your thoughts, and (if necessary) get alone by yourself. Anxiety only hinders your ability to plan, and online marketing strategy requires clear thinking! If necessary, you can talk about your current situation with a seasoned marketing expert, but try to do some research by yourself first. Step #1: Make Your Exit What's the first step to escaping mediocre marketing results? Part ways with your current marketing strategy. That doesn't mean you have to get rid of every marketing asset you have. But you do need to recognize which aspects of your plans are not contributing to your company's success. Your Marketing Company Should Be Able to Show Provide Proof of ROI. Now, hopefully you have enough control of your online marketing program that you can determine which elements are actually producing leads. If not, that's okay. A lot of businesses who pay an agency to manage their marketing end up with little understanding of what's actually going on month to month. In cases where your marketing company shows no results after years of work, it's often best to simply walk away and start fresh. As you restart your online marketing, there are a few crucial assets to maintain. Your Domain Name – if you have a long-time domain name, don't get rid of it! Your Brand – closely tied to your domain, your seasoned brand may still offer value. Your Social Media Accounts – again, seasoned accounts are important for your brand. Your Local Citations – don't get rid of your profiles just yet, even if you have poor reviews. Some experienced companies mistakenly get rid of these valuable resources. Hold onto them for now, especially your domain name! It's a source of credibility and trust for your business. Without it, you will truly be starting over in your online marketing efforts. Step #2: Reassess Your Strategy Have you built a solid foundation for your local search performance? Most businesses haven't, assuming that their marketing company can just flip a switch and enjoy instant success. In reality, real results demand careful preparation, website design, and reputation management. It won't come by paying another business for mediocre leads either! Take a sheet of paper (or a digital spreadsheet) and write down every marketing channel you've directed funds to over the last year. Examine each channel, and determine whether it's contributing to immediate leads or long-term business growth. Here's what your sheet might look like… Notice the Relatively Low Investment Towards Long-Term Company Growth. Are you actively investing money towards building up your brand value, or has your marketing been focused on creating immediate leads? Channels like Google Ads and Lead Sales won't contribute much to your long-term company growth, especially if you don't have an optimized website to support them! We actually love Google Ads at Roofing Webmasters, but they work best for supplementing your leads, not driving them. If you think the above report seems a little too highly priced, you'd be amazed how many contractors spend tens of thousands of dollars per month without earning a satisfactory return on their investment. For now, focus on understanding where your funds have been going, so that you can remember which channels aren't producing good results for your team. Step #3: Step Towards Success Now all of this careful planning is wasted if we simply throw up our hands and swear away marketing. Once you've gotten a clear picture of the digital marketing channels that aren't providing real growth for your business, it's time to start taking steps towards success. Baby steps, mind you! If you've discovered some areas missing in your marketing strategy, now is a great time to fill in the gaps. Here are some extremely valuable actions you can start on immediately! If you haven't already, claim, complete, and register your Google My Business account. Contact Yelp, the BBB, Manta, and other citation sources and get listed. Start a Facebook Business page and provide your contact information. Train your team on how to ask for reviews after every successful project. Upward Growth Takes Time, But You Can Start Taking Steps Now! Follow these steps, and you'll be well on your way towards developing lasting growth for your roofing business! If you need an experienced web design team to help you with your website optimization, our seasoned pros at Roofing Webmasters would love to partner with you. How to use Google Analytics INSTEAD OF Google Optimize, to run A/B Tests or Experiments on your website. Now, WHY would you want to use Google Analytics, instead of Google Optimize? I've blogged and vlogged a lot about Google Optimize and have used it a ton for both Data Driven Design and our clients, and it is an amazing A/B testing tool. But Optimize is meant for true "experiments" like deciding with design or content elements within a page work best at converting users. Typically, this works best for "higher traffic sites" with already low bounce rates, because higher traffic sites with already super high engagement rates really need to get super detailed into further optimization using data. Optimize also works well for sites seeking higher traffic, with already strong engagement rates but looking to decide things like: - Which headline or sentence should I use as my web copy? - Which color should a Call To Action button be? - What should that button say? - Which of these two or three photos would best engage users for a particular space? What Google Optimize DOESN'T DO WELL, that Google Analytics does well for A/B Testing, is allow you to create completely separate layouts and test them against one another. This is done through simply creating a variant or multiple variant pages at different URLs. So your variants are PAGES, not ELEMENTS OF A PAGE. This is excellent for website redesign projects in which your business might be debating over two or more homepage "concepts" or running marketing campaigns to landing pages and what to do some initial testing around which one to spend the most money against. Watch this video to see how to set up these kinds of experiments in Google Analytics and get them live on your website. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/paulhickey/support

TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today's Topic: When to Keep, Cut, and Consolidate Your Content [00:54] You may find that some of your content is outdated. [01:22] Consolidate if you have five pages that discuss the same thing, combine them, because Google won't know which one to rank first. [02:15] Search engines want to eliminate redundancy. Have you tried Google Adwords but didn't have any success? Have you given up on using the most powerful traffic driver on the web? Today I walk you through my techniques I have used to buy over $250,000+ worth of ads over the last several years. Today's podcast will focus exclusively on text ads. First thing about a text ad that needs to draw the users attention is a good opening line. I like to ask a rhetorical question for my opening line. For example: User types "hotels in Hawaii" in a Google search. My title text line will be something like: Looking For The Best Hotels In Hawaii? Where Are The Best Hotels In Hawaii? Getting the user to read your title text and saying "yes" is a sales tactic that has been around for ages. It also helps qualify the user who clicks on your ad - which should drive up your click-through-rate (CTR). My tag-line, or the second line of text is often something that proclaims how great my website/content is or entices the reader to click. For example: The #1 Hawaii Hotel Site With Real Reviews Read My Personal Reviews Of Each Hotel! Top 5 Best Hotels In Hawaii Inside Google AdWords - you'll want to test at least 4 ads when you start out. After you start noticing the ad with the best CTR and results .... start eliminating the ads that aren't performing. At the same time, try to refine what is working to see if you can't get better results. After a while you should narrow it down to about 2 ads that rotate based on the users search term. After you start seeing how users convert on your website, start adjusting your bids based on device type. I often pay 2x - 3x+ for desktop (and tablet) traffic versus mobile traffic. However, if your site is converting really well for mobile, you might do the opposite. Use Google Analytics & different landing pages (with different affiliate/ad tracking) to judge what you ROI is and adjust your bids accordingly. When you first start your campaign in Adwords you might notice that it's hard to get your ads to run. Often times your quality score will be low - and you might be under the suggested first page bid. I would bid a bit higher than you really want to in order to get your ads to run. I've set up many campaigns where my quality score was low and I was paying $0.50+ per click. Those exact same campaigns now have 9/10 quality scores and I pay closer to $0.07 per click. In order to get Google's algo to notice you - get the ads to run and adjust down over time. Lastly keep testing & adjusting constantly. Once you feel like your conversions are dialed in - leave the campaign alone and transfer it to Bing/Yahoo to get even more traffic. You can also bid adjust for age/gender & location ... which can drive up your conversions even more. Let me know if you have any questions by leaving a comment below. Listen To Show #7 Below
