"The Conners" is sitcom that serves as a direct continuation of the beloved series "Roseanne". It premiered in 2018, following the cancellation of "Roseanne" due to controversial tweets by its star, Roseanne Barr. The series follows the Conner family as they navigate life in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois, after the death of the family matriarch, Roseanne. There were mixed reactions from fans when "The Conners" continued without Roseanne Barr. Some felt that the show lost its essence without its central character. On the other hand, some appreciated the new direction and felt that the show still maintained its humor and heart despite the changes. How will the S1E1 boys feel? Listen as they deep dive "The Conners" pilot episode, Keep on Truckin'. In this transformative episode, I'm thrilled to share insights from Natalie E. West, high-performance integrative psychotherapist and guest speaker during Week 2 of my (Bella's) November Alcohol Freedom Challenge. Natalie captivated our group with her profound understanding of how attachments—to substances like alcohol, food, and drugs—are often rooted in unmet emotional needs and external validation. Sharing her personal journey with alcohol, Natalie delved into the emotional and psychological factors that shape dependency and provided strategies for creating lasting change. We explore the groundbreaking connection between nutritional psychology and emotional regulation, revealing how the gut-brain axis plays a pivotal role in breaking free from habits that no longer serve us. Natalie introduced tailored nutritional approaches, such as ketogenic and carnivore diets, that not only stabilise energy but also improve mental clarity and overall well-being. Her expertise sparked dynamic discussions and inspired the group to reframe their perspectives on cravings and dependency by focusing on internal values and purpose. Natalie's empowering philosophy of replacing “I should” with “I choose” invites us to approach life with intention, authenticity, and self-prioritisation. By embracing conscious decision-making and fostering a stable emotional environment, Natalie shows how we can build self-value, navigate change, and create a life aligned with our core beliefs. Her talk was an unforgettable highlight of the challenge, and I'm excited to share her wisdom with you today. If you've had the opportunity to learn from Natalie West, then you know she is a skilled Bible teacher who is passionate about the scripture. She is both seriously entertaining and profoundly insightful. She joined us in Season 1 of Whit's End to discuss God's heart for foster care and share a little of her personal journey. In this episode, Natalie brings a challenging word as we look at how we often mishandle scripture. At times we misunderstand who God is when we extract specific stories from THE BIG story of the Bible, neglecting the original context. Is the God of the Old Testament the same as the God of the New Testament? Why is studying history important? Why did God choose Israel and set them apart? Does God withhold rain in the Old Testament because He's vindictive? Show Notes: Take a closer look at Deuteronomy and 1 Kings Elijah Bible study by Priscila Shirer "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness." -2 Peter 1:3 Quotes to remember: "It's like walking away from a banquet and saying 'I'm hungry'" - Natalie on how we often neglect to receive the good things that God has provided for us to live a life of godliness, such as His Word. "Yahweh has to be faithful to Himself. It's part of His character. He cannot go against what He has said or who He has been." "Our private lives for God are the only things that can support our public lives for God." "We need to be far more compassionate and Christlike to our neighbors in real life than we are on Facebook." --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/whits-end/message

The carnivore diet has been around since the dawn of time, but it's only recently been gaining traction in modern society. Some people are choosing to go on this diet for health reasons, but many others are doing so for mental health reasons. In this interview with Natalie West, we'll discuss some of the ways that going on a carnivore diet can improve your mental health. A morbidly obese man named Shawn Baker was able to lose over 100 pounds in a matter of months by going on the carnivore diet. Baker is a former bodybuilder and he's now a carnivore diet advocate. He lost over 100 pounds on the carnivore diet and has suffered from depression for most of his life. Some people have experienced a reduction in anxiety due to the removal of carbohydrates. Eating carbs can cause blood sugar swings, that's why you can have lots of energy when you eat carbs and after a few hours you feel angry. Examples of foods that are high in carbohydrates are bread, pasta, and rice How to identify if you are experiencing anxiety due to carbohydrates: If you feel better after avoiding these foods for a few weeks, then it's a good idea to continue avoiding them. People have reported feeling happier and more positive. The carnivore diet can also improve your mental health by reducing anxiety, improving focus and concentration, and increasing energy levels. Natalie West suggests eating purely beef as it contains important amino acids to build lean muscle and feed your brain. Many people report experiencing greater productivity as a result of eating this way. One of the main benefits for mental health is the improved mood caused by not having to deal with sugar crashes, caffeine withdrawal, or stomach aches. You might feel happier because your body is finally getting the nutrients it's been craving for years. Key nutrients from eating a carnivore diet include: ⌲ Vitamin D can help with depression, anxiety and sleep disorders. ⌲ Vitamin B12 is essential for a healthy nervous system, as well as for healthy skin and hair, bone formation and blood clotting. It may also improve memory loss, fatigue and mood swings associated with aging. ⌲ Zinc helps regulate neurotransmitters — brain chemicals that carry messages between nerve cells — which are involved in mood control. Zinc supplements may help prevent relapses in people who have recovered from depression but are at high risk of another episode. ⌲ Iron deficiency can cause anemia (a lack of red blood cells), which could lead to fatigue or low energy levels that affect your moods as well as physical performance during exercise or work activities. While there are many studies that have been done to determine whether or not this diet is good for your mental health, the results seem extremely positive. If you're interested in trying out this new approach then it might be worth taking a chance on yourself! This collection of narrative essays by sex workers presents a crystal-clear rejoinder: there's never been a better time to fight for justice. Responding to the resurgence of the #MeToo movement in 2017, sex workers from across the industry--hookers and prostitutes, strippers and dancers, porn stars, cam models, Dommes and subs alike--complicate narratives of sexual harassment and violence, and expand conversations often limited to normative workplaces. Writing across topics such as homelessness, motherhood, and toxic masculinity, We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival (Feminist Press, 2021) gives voice to the fight for agency and accountability across sex industries. With contributions by leading voices in the movement such as Melissa Gira Grant, Ceyenne Doroshow, Audacia Ray, femi babylon, April Flores, and Yin Q, this anthology explores sex work as work, and sex workers as laboring subjects in need of respect--not rescue. When Roseanne Barr briefly boycotted her own show during the filming of Season 2, an episode was written sending her character out of town and focusing on her sister Jackie's interim role as wife and mother to Dan and the kids. This week, we queen out on the nuanced chemistry between Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman, the goosey goodness of Natalie West, the episode as a one-act play, coat acting, men who are queens, the concept of Mom Time, and when shows should call it quits. Editor Natalie West joins Tristan Taormino in part 1 of a 2 part series on her new book We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival. In the wake of the #MeToo resurgence, sex workers of all kinds were hesitant to tell their stories of harassment, coercion, and assault. If sex workers (SWers) tell stories of being victimized, it confirms what people already think they know: sex work is degrading and dangerous. If they don’t speak, they can’t get community support, resources, a chance to speak their truth, and, in rare cases, justice. Natalie talks about sex work labor, victimhood, the problematic movement to “save” SWers, the role of law enforcement, and the conflation of sex work and trafficking. There is deep resilience and hope in this book which shows how organizing is a tool of empowerment and healing. Natalie West is a Los Angeles based writer and educator. She worked as a professional Dominatrix while obtaining her PhD in Gender Studies. She moonlights as a sex work and BDSM authenticity consultant for film and TV productions and is currently at work on a memoir. Special thanks to Like A Kitten and Sakara for their support of the show.

Studies have shown that adolescent and young adult women with cystic fibrosis often turn to their CF care team for answers to their questions about their sexual and reproductive health. But how prepared are CF clinicians to initiate conversations? Do they have the most current data about pregnancy decisions for women taking CFTR modulators? When should modulator therapy be stopped? When is it safe to continue? In this eCysticFibrosis Review podcast, Dr. Traci Kazmerski from UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Dr. Natalie West from Johns Hopkins University take us into the clinic to address these important questions. To read a companion newsletter click here.
