Welcome to my new podcast! I'm your local queer Rainbow and I'm here to talk my writing journey as it happens in real time and all the interesting experiences that come with being a writer along the way.
This week, I'm answering some of the most common questions I'm receiving from listeners, viewers, and readers. Since they keep coming up (some for many years), I feel that my answers will be helpful to more than just those who took the time to ask. If I missed anything (or Heaven forbid, you disagree), feel free to leave a comment, or reach out to support@rayedwards.com. Key Insights What do I do in this economy? This question doesn't always end with "economy"...It could be any number of this's...this election year, this time of civil unrest, this whatever... Be aware of what's happening in the world around you, and make sure you're playing both the short-term and long-term game. Do the work you're being paid for today, and plant the seeds for the income you will reap in the future. What if I don't like my business anymore? - Remember this: You should never make long-term, life-altering decisions based on a current "bad season" in your work. In other words, be sure you actually don't enjoy what you're doing, and you're not just reacting to some current, emotion-fueled unpleasantness. At the end of the day, you don't need anyone's permission to do something else (unless you have a spouse...then you probably want to bring them into the loop). How do I build my business the right way? - Life is not a flowchart. There is no step-by-step plan I can hand you for this. And yes, I teach people proven business plans, BUT, at the end of the day, the "right way" is "their way". That's why most of the time, I teach those plans in an interactive format (like my upcoming workshop) so I can answer the questions that help attendees translate what they learn into their plan. If you could only give me 1 piece of advice to guide me through building my own business, what would it be? - Writing is the way to get everything you want in life. I'm not exclusively talking about copywriting. Tune in for my complete breakdown of why that's my answer. No matter if you are a parent or not, this conversation is for you—after all, we all have parents, right? Today's guest is Dr. Aliza Pressman, a Dartmouth and Columbia-educated developmental psychologist whose new book The 5 Principles of Parenting: Your Essential Guide to Raising Good Humans is out January 23. In today's conversation we discuss her five principles, all of which begin with R: relationships, reflection, regulation, rules, and repair, all leading to the sixth R, which is resilience. We talk today about the science and art of parenting—how there is no right way to parent, reparenting ourselves, how it feels harder than ever to be a parent. Parenting is, simply put, the hardest work anyone will ever do—I can't wait for all of you parents to hear what Dr. Pressman has to say in this episode, and I hope that it absolves you of your mom guilt or dad guilt. I hope her words will give you the permission you need to let that guilt go, once and for all. It is such an enriching conversation. Dr. Pressman has an extremely popular podcast of her own, “Raising Good Humans," and she herself is the mother of two teenagers and has a lot of wisdom to impart to us. What if there was a way to do what many have unsuccessfully tried and accomplish many think impossible: to invest in low- economic neighborhoods, benefit the community, and actually make money at the same time? In this case, the idea of making money while doing good isn't about bringing an innovation to market that will solve a universal problem like accessible clean water, or provision of quality health care and education, or economic uplift of living wages with affordable work-force housing. In fact in the case of urban renewal, it is all of those things and more. We are on the threshold, if we do this right, that history will look back on this time as the turning point for an urban renaissance. This is replay of a popular episode from 2020 where I interviewed best selling author Terrence Gallman and we were all excited about the potential for urban renewal as as result of the Opportunity Zone tax exemptions offered in the 2017 tax reform laws. We went on to continue to look for opportunities to uplift those disadvantaged communities that had been left behind in the economic prosperity that has helped so many other communities thrive. That became the GIG opportunity to provide a resource portal of tools for aspiring entrepreneurs and those that want to increase their financial understanding to gain access too. It also is core to the story that will be the redemption story that will be told with the release of No Right Way. The episode wraps with a live chat with Terrence about the current state of affairs and how he has built a coalition of partners committed to the urban renaissance. Stay tuned to hear how you can share in the financial success of GIG. Watch original on youtube: https://youtu.be/H6pZu0QR26M Terrence Gallman is an economist and the esteemed author of Wall Street Bonds: The Urban Renaissance, a book about a financial and social revolution that could raise up the people and the GDP at the same time. Today we are joined on the Brain Booster by performance consultant Dr Greg Cartin who has worked with so many top level players. He is based in Boston USA ‘What we are thinking DOESN'T matter'!! Wow! Join us in Manchester in November and become a CERTIFIED MIND FACTOR COACH – or simply come to improve your own game, go to : https://themindfactor.net/the-certification-course/ For many people this is counter intuitive to what they have been led to believe. We have spent so long in the futile attempt to try to control our thinking. Yet as Greg explains today it is actually the RESISTANCE to what we are feeling and thinking that causes so many problems. It is this resistance that causes tension and it is the tension which affects our ability to access the SKILLS we have. As he says: ‘You can think ANYTHING you want until you think it is WRONG' It is so important to begin to change the RELATIONSHIP we have with our thoughts and feelings. To become an observer of them. As an observer we are able to create some DISTANCE without becoming FUSED with our thinking. We challenge many existing ‘norms' in mental game coaching Routines could be making you WORSE! https://cutt.ly/WhatAreYourThoughtsWho will heal the healers? Managing physician burnout is a tall order. And yet when both Dr. Tyra Fainstad and Dr. Adrienne Mann found themselves going through difficult life-chapters, they saw a need in the system that had not been addressed. Their program, Better Together, is for the medical community that may feel isolated or may feel like there's no outlet. Even though there are definite differences between a Coach and a Physician, when listening to the doctors speak about their program, it seems so logical that the two would work hand in hand with one another. If you're dealing with burnout or know someone who is, you'll want to take a listen. [00:30 -23:04] Opening SegmentDr. Gaggino introduces us to Dr.Tyra Fainstad and Dr. Adrienne MannWe learn about their journey into medicine and being a life coach. They found that burnout was their common thread. The difference between Coaching and Therapy [23:05 - 30:54] How a “Cute Little Study” grew into the “Better Together” program? There's a lot of advice out there about grief, but most people fail to understand that grief is personal and that there's quite a mixture of feelings involved. For example, when your spouse dies, you may feel numb, confused and fearful. You may feel angry at your spouse for leaving you. You may even feel guilty for being the one who is still alive. I'm here to tell you that all these feelings are normal. And because grief is a personal experience, there is no right or wrong way to mourn. In this episode, we talk about grieving the proper way and why there's nothing wrong with you, even if people find your grief "weird." You have every right to grieve your way, grieving fully AND living fully. What You'll Learn: Why there is no wrong or right way to grieve Living again after losing a partner Why you need to stop trying to escape the pain of grief How to remember your partner with more love than pain Give your grief the time and space it needs to heal How to build a healthy relationship with your grief People don't recover from grief, and that's okay Understanding the nature and evolution of grief In your grief, it's really important to listen to what people have to say with an open mind. Take what feels good based on where you are in your journey and how you're feeling. But at the end of the day, grieve your way, the best way you know how. In today's episode, I'm sharing a really honest story about how I nearly sabotaged my business after a quick scroll through Pinterest. I'm also talking about how my business has changed since having a baby, and how it's changing again now that I have a little more time. And, I'm reminding you what it looks like to run a business your way instead of the way that everyone else is running theirs. If you are here, absorbing what I put into the world, you are actively engaged with your spiritual journey. The truth is, everyone is on a spiritual journey, but YOU are intentional about self-inquiry, self-awareness, and the process of your evolution. People often look to others for answers when they first awaken to the idea that there's more to life than what we've been told. But here's the thing, no one can tell you how, what, when, or where you should be doing this because there is no RIGHT way to do this. We are all completely unique, with a perspective that is all our own. Having teachers, guides, and mentors to help counsel and encourage you along the way is critical, but ultimately, you are the one steering your ship. Embrace the process. You are exactly where you're supposed to be. Let the knowledge that you can't be wrong on a spiritual path free you to explore. Have fun with it. Be curious. Embrace the process. That's what this thing we call life is all about! My upcoming offerings:Join me for my August classes on Soul Tribe Online: Heart Flight. Sure, I offer a super simple, step-by-step process for creating, marketing and selling your online course, but I'm not the only kid in town who offers you a way to create more impact in the world. I am, however, the only one out there who cares enough to teach you what you need to know to take what's in your brain and share it with your audience in a meaningful way in the form of an online course. There's no 10% advantage around here. It's not about staying one step ahead of the curve. It's about learning how to distill complex information into simple information, quickly and easily. And nobody does it better than I do. At the end of the day, it's up to you whether we work together or not. I hope you'll choose to join Create, Market and Sell Your Online Course and work with me, but if not, I want to make sure you're making an informed decision. Most of us spend our lives thinking that there is a "right" way to create results. But trying to get things "right" might just be the thing that's slowing you down. @whitneyuland www.abundantartistcoaching.com You can find the transcript here: www.abundantartistcoaching.com/blog/083
Today's episode covers the many ways we get to cultivate our careers as creatives and artists. I also share an inspirational quote from Oprah, and I also share information on exciting upcoming guests! Enjoy!!!
When we're looking for ideas or guidance on how to move forward with our career, we can very easily slow our own growth or talk ourselves out of pursuing a career path because we feel like we don't have what it takes to do it the “right way.” But when it comes to your career and your work, there really is no right way to do it, there's just your way. In this episode we'll talk about how to prevent letting that kind of limiting mindset get in your way.
In this episode, I talk to our first international guest, Sam Jones. After losing his friends and the future he had planned in a fatal car accident, Sam opens up about his grieving process with incredible insight, vulnerability, and even some humor and wit. No matter what your experience with grief or loss has been, I know you will enjoy hearing Sam's story, as he is a wonderful example of resilience and the importance of acknowledging and accepting where you are in the process. We discuss: Similar to episode 1 with Graham, Sam's story is another great example of the potential impact we can make on each other if we just reach out. And furthermore, how sometimes we can go a step further and literally help change each other's lives. How it's okay if you're not ready to deal with something yet; just be aware and honest with yourself about where you are and then honor that. How things don't have to be either/or; they can be both/and. You can be in a bad place and still have good days or good nights or moments of joy or laughter. And most importantly- to not be hard on yourself; allow yourself to go through the process however it looks for you. not what society deems is the right way to grieve or how anyone else tells you to do it. Listen to yourself, be kind to yourself, and allow yourself to feel whatever it is you need to feel. Please SUBSCRIBE, SHARE, RATE, and REVIEW the podcast!
