When it comes to running a thriving business, it's not just the big moves that count—it's the small, consistent ones that truly build momentum.  In this episode, Danielle Hayden, CEO and founder of Kickstart Accounting, Inc., shares the financial micro habits that high-performing CEOs use to stay aligned with their goals, grow strategically, and stay empowered all year long without burning out or second-guessing every decision. Whether you're in a season of growth or a slower quarter, these habits can help you lead with clarity and confidence. Key Takeaways:  Automate for Success: Set up systems to automate your bookkeeping, savings, and financial analysis so you can focus on growth, not spreadsheets. Know Your Numbers Year-Round: Make tax planning a monthly habit, not a once-a-year panic. Know your estimates, and stash them away in a high-yield savings account. Pay Yourself Intentionally: Gradually increase your pay through sustainable salary and owner's draw strategies instead of inconsistent withdrawals. Consistency Over Trends: Stop pivoting your brand and offerings every quarter. Successful CEOs stay the course and master their strategy. They show up day after day, month after month, and put in the work.  Your Time Is Money: How long are you going to have to work to recoup the money spent on that new course of software? Knowing your hourly rate helps put a purchase into perspective and allows you to determine if that item is worth the price. Spend Strategically, Not for the Tax Write-Off: Only invest in tools, services, or experiences that actually move the needle for your business. If the value is not worth the price tag, then it's not worth the deduction.  Talk to Your Money Team: Your financial team is your secret weapon. Book those calls, ask questions, and use their insights to make confident decisions and future-focused strategies. Topics Discussed: The Importance of Goal-Based, Automated Savings  (00:45 – 03:51) How to Manage Monthly Tax Estimates Proactively (03:52 – 05:10) Growing How Much You Pay Yourself Over Time (05:10 - 06:03) Why Consistency Beats Trendy Business Strategies (06:03 – 08:28) The Importance of Knowing Your Hourly Rate (08:29 – 09:07) Spending Strategically, Not Only for the Tax Write-Off (09:08 – 09:53) Connecting with Your Full Money Team Regularly (09:55 – 14:23)   Resources: KSA Calculator | How Much to Pay Yourself as a Business Owner Build Your Money Team Episode | The 4 People You Want on Your Money Team All Our Episodes & Articles on Taxes | Tackle Your Taxes with Kickstart Accounting, Inc. Every growing business owner needs a money team if they plan to achieve their financial goals and scale smartly. This episode explores the essential roles within a money team: the bookkeeper, CPA accountant, financial advisor, and CFO. Through the lens of a client story, Danielle Hayden explores how these roles work together to manage the financial health and growth of a business. She also discusses when businesses should hire a CFO, and how Kickstart Accounting Inc. provides CFO services to clients. Well Sh*t. It really is that simple - Episode 105 - Don't negatively impact the needs of the people you want around is now LIVE! Full Show notes: https://bit.ly/WellShitEpisodeGuide Certain people try to manipulate others to get them to do what they want or cause a sense of obligation by attempting to create a power dynamic. This may have the opposite effect, as people might pull away from this behavior. In this episode we talk about how the Personal Power Need and Value Needs come into this scenario, why this behavior is never acceptable and how people can move further away or closer to us depending on how they affect our needs. In this episode, we cover… How some people treat others in a certain way to try and meet their needs by creating a power dynamic  How this is related to our Personal Power Need How some people have a habit of guilting or shaming people to get them to do what they want them to do How this is not acceptable behavior How our Value Need is chronically unmet in our culture causing us not to feel worthy of people showing up for us unless they feel obligated to How the pressure from the obligation that is created makes people less inclined to show up “Never let an authority figure cause you to either submit or rebel” - Marshall Rosenberg - which means doing what's right for us no matter what the authority figure is saying How some people expect others to meet their needs irrespective of whether it meets the other person's needs or not How if we give in to a power dynamic, it will cause that person to use it again How we can communicate what we need and/or set a boundary if it is safe to do so The benefit of going into creator mode to try and find something that works for us both How we can choose to spend less time with someone if that person is not willing to understand what we are trying to communicate How it is ok not to want to spend time with someone who regularly negatively impacts your needs How people can move closer or further away in our orbits depending on how they impact our needs  An invitation to show up for and support people that you want as part of your life and not negatively impact them Episode references: Guilt and shame series: Episode 43 - The Guilt & Shame Series: The difference between guilt and shame; Episode 44 - The Guilt & Shame Series: That's not guilt, it's shame in disguise; Episode 45 - The Guilt & Shame Series: That's not guilt, it's an attempt at manipulating your humanity Episode 103 - Boundaries Series: How to communicate your boundaries  The episode we refer to where we speak about the relationship orbits is Episode 17 - What to do when you're waiting for an apology that will never come

Click here to sign up!Furthering God's Mission Through BusinessAs a publishing strategist for SelPublishing.com, Nate Hambrick creates blueprints for authors to write, publish, and market their books effectively. He's also the author of Crush Your Kryptonite: How to Conquer Your Weakness and Unleash Your Superpower, which was an Amazon #1 bestseller for 135 days consecutively. Clearly, Nate has figured out some things about what works and what doesn't when it comes to writing and publishing books. But for Nate, the work that he does is about more than just sales and marketing. It's also about partnering with God to change the world. In the past, Nate has served as a missionary to Honduras and as a church planter in the United States. But while he loved these more “traditional” ministry roles, he says his favorite way to minister to people is actually in the business world. Many people have a negative impression of the church and aren't interested in talking to someone with the title of “missionary.” But helping authors and business owners grow their impact and income gives Nate the opportunity to share his faith casually and consistently.“Christ is my calling,” he says. “But because I have a business vocation — because people see the way I move their businesses forward, the way that I treat clients, and the excellence that God has gifted me with — whenever I share Christ, it lands very differently than if I were just a happy-go-lucky guy sharing the gospel all the time.” There's certainly a place for traditional ministry, but it's important to remember that it's not the only way to impact people — and that Christians can operate a profitable business while being a blessing to others. Start with the People You Want to ImpactIf you're like a lot of aspiring Christian authors, you genuinely want to make a difference in the world and to be able to lead with your faith. You're passionate about what God has given you to share, and you can feel that message burning inside of you — but how do you get it out to the people who need to hear it?According to Nate, you need to start with the people you want to impact, and ask yourself: Why would a stranger want to read your book? Here's the hard truth: No one is going to buy your book just because it's a good book. “There are 1.5 million faith-based books out there, give or take,” Nate points out. “And most of those books I will not read, even if they are absolutely incredible. Because I'm not going to read a book just because it's good. I'm going to read a book because I have a problem, a challenge.”In marketing, this is often called a “bleeding neck” — an urgent problem happening in someone's life that they need a solution to right now. That is what will lead someone to read your book and be impacted by your message. If you want your book to impact hundreds or thousands of people, then you have to start with those people — people you have never met, in countries you may never visit — in mind. Then you'll be able to create a product that is desirable and helpful to them. Remember, it's not enough just to write a good book. It's not enough just to have a mission and a message. If you want to impact people, you have to consider the marketing piece of publishing. And that means you have to understand that your book is not going to be a perfect fit for everyone — so you've got to get it in front of way more people than you might think. When Nate first launched Crush Your Kryptonite, he set a daily goal of funneling 30,000-35,000 people to his book page. That's around 900,000 people per month, and over 5 million people within the first six months.Of course, the vast majority of those people didn't buy the book, and not all of the people who bought it read it. But a small fraction of 5 million is still tens of thousands — or even hundreds of thousands — of people who have been impacted by his message. “Marketing is putting your light on a lampstand,” Nate says. “If you write the world's greatest book, if you share the most amazing testimonies of what God has done in your life, there's a ton of power in that. But your book's only going to help somebody if they read it. And the only way for them to read it, short of a divine miracle, is through marketing.” Think about it this way: throughout Scripture, people like Moses and Gideon were asked to take certain steps to carry out their God-given missions. Marketing is a 21st century version of taking those steps and putting your light on a lampstand for the world to see. 2 Principles of MarketingMarketing can seem like a big, scary concept that's difficult to grasp. And it's true that there are a lot of complex, fancy techniques and tools out there that marketers can use. But, especially for those who are just venturing out into the marketing world, Nate simplifies it all down into just two things: credibility and visibility. “It doesn't matter what you're selling. If you're very credible, and you're very visible, you're probably going to sell a lot of whatever it is,” he explains. “But a lot of times we get so caught up in all the bells and whistles that we forget that this is all it is: How do I make sure people know this will be worth their time and money? And then how do I show this to millions of people?”CredibilityAccording to Nate, one of the biggest ways to gain credibility is by getting lots of reviews on Amazon, or whatever platform you use. You could sell a few thousand books, but if you only have a handful of reviews from friends and family, then you're not going to be very credible. Potential readers who don't know anything about you yet don't see how many copies you've sold or how your book helped people around you — they see reviews. So you've got to have a strategy for getting those reviews. In Nate's experience, this also means you need to give yourself permission to charge for the product and make a profit. This can be challenging for many Christians, who feel uncomfortable earning money from putting their God-given message out there. But, as Nate explains, “you have to charge for your product for people to value what you have. Otherwise, it's just something free, so they don't value it, they don't even look at it, and they don't get any of the gold that you're putting in your book.” If you want to make an impact, you need to show people that your book is valuable, and that you have something worth their time — and money. VisibilityThere are plenty of ways to get more visibility, but one of the best ways is by appearing on podcasts. After all, you only have to record a podcast episode one time, but that one episode has the potential to be heard by thousands of people, even years into the future. Other ways to increase visibility include buying ads on Amazon, Facebook, Google AdWords, or other sites, and posting on book promotion sites like BookBub. But it's important to remember that these two things — credibility and visibility — must always go hand-in-hand. “There are lots of ways to get traffic,” Nate says. “But if you think about it, just make yourself really credible, prove to your readers that you're worth their time and money, and then get a lot of people to see your book, and you're going to be in a really good spot. And you will be able to help the thousands of people that you want to help.”Credibility Opens DoorsThe more credibility and visibility you have, and the better your book sells as a result, the more doors will continue to open for you. But you often have to establish that foundation first. “When you're just starting out, it's virtually impossible to go up to a sizable podcast and say, hey, would you interview me on your podcast?” Nate says. He knows what it's like to send out email after email and get back nothing but generic rejections over and over again. Once he had a successful book out, he started getting accepted by a lot more people with large audiences — but he still had to market his credibility to them. He had to show them the success his book was having, and convince them that he would be a valuable guest for their show. “Nobody cares who Nate Hambrick is,” he explains. “What podcasters and event hosts are looking for is that they want to look good. And so the question is, how can we make the host of this live event or podcast look really, really good? And if we can prove that to them, lots and lots of doors will open up.”The more you build credibility and show podcast or event hosts that you can bring value to their show, the more excited they'll be to interview you — and the more often you'll have people reaching out to you instead of you always being the one reaching out to them. Let Your Book Do the Hard Work for YouPublishing a successful book can open way more doors than you might think. In fact, if you do it right, your book can be the #1 source of revenue for your family or of clients for your business. After all, once your book is out there, it's essentially free marketing for you. Here's what that looks like for Nate:He markets the book to millions of people.A fraction of those people buy the book.On the first page and throughout the book, he offers free tools or audiobooks. When readers sign up to get those free tools, they opt into his mailing list.Automated emails to that list drive more traffic to his business.“That's leveraged impact,” Nate says. “I wrote the book once. I set up the funnel once. I wrote the emails once. All of that's automated. And what it's doing is it's helping weed people out, because not everybody's going to be a good fit for your business or organization — but some of them will.”Instead of spending all your time marketing your business to potential clients or customers, let your book do a lot of that hard work for you. It Starts With “Why?”After having worked with thousands of people to help get their messages out there, Nate says the key to success starts with one question: Why are you wanting to impact people? Are you in this for bragging rights about how many people you've helped, or do you genuinely care about making a difference in people's lives? The people who truly care about how their book is going to help other people are the people who have a truly lasting impact on others. So before you can be successful, you need to be sure you are pursuing success for the right reasons. Then, once you're sure your heart is in the right place, you need to understand that you can't do this alone. Just like we as believers need the church to help us grow in our faith, we as authors need a community to help us — and our books — reach our full potential. “There's no way you can possibly have the impact that you want by yourself. It's impossible,” Nate explains. “I've personally published about 1,000 books myself, so I know what I'm talking about. And yet, when I go to launch my next book, I'm still going to have a team of over 300 people. I have the knowledge, but I need the community to get me that result.” Think of it this way: if you're the only person telling people how amazing your book is, why should people, especially strangers, believe you? But if you have hundreds or thousands of people shouting from the rooftops about how your book changed their lives for the better, it's going to draw even more people in to check it out for themselves. If you want to learn more about how to write and publish a faith-based bestseller and get all your questions answered directly by Nate himself, you won't want to miss the FREE webinar, “How To Write a Faith Based Bestseller That Impacts Thousands of Lives” on Wednesday, July 19th, at 2 pm ET. When I interviewed world-leading coach Maika Leibbrandt on The Unlock Moment, she used a phrase that has stayed with me. She said “I chose to align myself with the people I wanted to grow me.” I thought it was a fascinating turn of phrase on intentionally choosing the people you surround yourself with – she didn't say “align myself with great people so I could grow”, she said “align myself with the people I wanted to grow me.”Where others might find themselves planted in an arid environment, drawing on the scant nutrients from the dry soil the best they can, Maika intentionally chose soil rich in nutrients to place her roots.  So seek out the people you want to grow you. Maybe in work, maybe out of work. Personal development and growth can happen on any day at any time. And as you learn and explore and reflect in this rich, nutritious environment, so you may discover for yourself that which defines you and makes you powerfully human.--Maika Leibbrandt: https://www.hellomaika.com/

Are you trying to improve your client retention rate? How often do you communicate with your clients? Building a good relationship with your clients starts immediately after they sign on to work with your agency. Today's guest takes us through his process of creating a level of trust with clients that make them want to stay. With clear goals set from the start and constant communication, they've only lost one client in ten years! Jeff Barnes is Chairman of Barnes Health, the strategic healthcare marketing, and public relations agency be started in 2003. He began his career in the healthcare marketing and public relations space on the client side 34 years ago. Being able to look at things from the client's perspective has been a plus for him as he has really focused on building good relationships with them. He sets clear goals and always makes them feel like they are the priority. In this episode, we'll discuss: Keeping client churn rates at a minimum. Why constant communication and a clear process are the key. Why you should strive to find clients that really fit with your agency. Subscribe Apple | Spotify | iHeart Radio | Stitcher | Radio FM Jumping From the Client-Side to Agency-Side Jeff had been working in healthcare marketing and public relations for 15 years before joining “the dark side” of the agency world. Basically, he wanted the freedom and more flexible hours of being an agency owner. Back then, there weren't many marketing firms in the healthcare niche, so he saw a good opportunity. Barnes Health started with one client and the agency has grown significantly since. He still has that first client and, actually, a total of four legacy clients that have worked with the agency for 20 years. Jeff has always preferred to work with a retainer pricing model. Some agencies may feel clients take advantage of working under a retainer expecting too many services under the retainer umbrella. However, the most important advantage for Jeff is having a guaranteed revenue, which helps him sleep at night. Nowadays, retainer clients account for about 95% of the agency's revenue. How to Keep Agency Client Turnover Rate At a Minimum The average agency turnover is 25% for a variety of reasons. With these statistics, Jeff usually gets bewildered looks when he says he's only lost 1 client in 10 years. What's his secret? Well, he's learned from speaking with his clients most agencies are exceptionally good at the front end. They sell their services with a dynamic attitude and promise that gets clients excited for working with them. However, client success is an important KPI and many agencies fail when it comes to customer service. There are two components to an agency 1) client acquisition and 2) client service. It is a lot easier to retain an existing client than to get a new one, so Jeff focuses on providing great customer service to keep the turnover rate at a minimum. He has trained his team to communicate with clients on a regular basis and have a quick response time for any questions they may have. Each client, big or small, should feel like they're the #1 most important client. Remember if you neglect clients, they'll probably start wondering why they're working with you and start looking for other opportunities. Answer the unasked questions -- and if you don't communicate it, they don't know it happened. Setting Clear Goals to Get Clients On Board With Your Strategy The moment a client agrees to work with your agency, you should quit promoting yourself and immediately transition to learning as much as you can about that client. Focus especially on their goals, objectives, and the criteria under which your work will be measured for success. The more educated and informed you are about every aspect of their operations, the more valuable you can be to your clients. Jeff's team typically gets clients to sign off on the strategic plan that they build together. They list the goals and objectives with clarity on who is responsible, the timeframe, and how success is to be measured. The overall strategy is documented and everyone on the team and the client is familiar with each step. It may be revised from time to time, but the client should always have access to the documents. Maintaining A Good Relationship With Clients Jeff favors constant communication with clients on a regular basis, even daily at times. In his opinion, this shows the agency is a very valuable resource for them. If there is no communication for three or four days, his team reaches out to make sure everything is in order - follow up on an email or run an idea by them. He also emphasizes how important it is to do this with both smaller and bigger clients. The amount of attention should not vary based on size or a client's portion to topline revenue. Moreover, this way of working helps you be more selective with your clients. If you don't feel like communicating constantly with your clients, then there's probably an issue there. Don't take in clients that you don't want to communicate with. You'll start resenting them and feel burnt out. Adapting Your Agency To a Changing Market The one constant in life changes, and in the agency world, you better be ready to adapt to a changing market. Jeff has had a long career and in those years he has learned to adapt to the internet, websites, and social media. New things are coming now with novelties like the Metaverse and NFTs which he says he will leave to his team to understand and educate him. To adapt to changing times, he likes to hire young professionals who understand and are using the newest technologies. It's so important to stay ahead of  new trends because a lot of the work marketing firms do has to do with consultation. Staying on top of emerging technology, educating and informing clients about new tools is the best way to present new ideas to your clients. However, Jeff says he is careful to not portray his team as being good at everything. It's better to actually be great at one thing than to pretend to be good at everything. As a client, he always asked agencies what they were great at. If they answered everything, he knew they weren't a good fit. Your Goals Should Reflect the People You Want to Work With It's important to have clear goals of what you want to accomplish in your agency. Your goals should go beyond a revenue level. Go deeper with your goals and really create a future vision. What type of lifestyle and freedom do you hope to have? What do you need in order to really love your work and your business? Do you know what sort of people you want to work with? For his part, Jeff credits his love for the business a being selective with which clients his agency takes on. In 20 years, he has been fortunate to never have felt like quitting. Regular communication with clients does not frustrate him because he actually likes the people he's working with and doesn't have any “nightmare clients.” Want the Support of Amazing Digital Agency Owners? Our conversation spins and twirls in the dance of the making sense humorously. We discuss his early comedic upbringing and surviving in Brooklyn. Then, onto his participation in creating an alternative school in Washington DC during the 60s. The circuity of comedy and conversation takes us through sharing sacred space in truth telling as well. Swami ultimately pronounces an upwising in the awareness of Americans toward the Heartland and our part in the Great Weset. Steve Bhaerman is an internationally known author, humorist, and workshop leader. For the past 29 years, he has written and performed as Swami Beyondananda, the "Cosmic Comic." Swami's comedy has been called "irreverently uplifting" and has been described both as "comedy disguised as wisdom" and "wisdom disguised as comedy." the Swami, Steve is the author of Driving Your Own Karma (1989), When You See a Sacred Cow, Milk It For All It's Worth (1993), Duck Soup for the Soul (1999) and Swami for Precedent: A 7-Step Plan to Heal the Body Politic and Cure Electile Dysfunction (2004). In his "past life" (before Swami), Steve started an alternative high school in Washington, D.C. and co-authored a book about his experiences, No Particular Place to Go: Making of a Free High School. A political science major, he later taught history to autoworkers at Wayne State University in Detroit as part of the Weekend College. In 1980, Steve co-founded Pathways Magazine in Ann Arbor, Michigan, one of the first publications bringing together holistic health, personal growth, spirituality, and politics. Subsequent to Pathways, Steve was a freelance writer and co-author with Don McMillan of Friends and Lovers: How to Meet the People You Want to Meet (Writer's Digest Books, 1986). Since 2005, Steve has written a political blog with a spiritual perspective, Notes From the Trail, hailed as an encouraging voice "in the bewilderness." His latest book, written with cellular biologist Bruce H. Lipton, PhD is Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here (Hay House, 2009). Steve is active in transpartisan politics and the practical application of Spontaneous Evolution. Steve currently helps comedians and non-comedians alike bring more joy and playfulness into their work, communicate more effectively through humor, and "humorize" their message. He continues to travel the US and the world performing cosmic comedy in his Swami persona. What comes to your mind when you hear the word canceled? Maybe you think about it in relation to stopping or disconnecting a subscription or a service. This term is also used to describe people we no longer want to associate with. If someone does or says something we don't like or agree with, we simply cancel them from our lives. We disassociate from them. We let go. In many ways, we say that the person no longer offers value to us and our lives. We live in cancel culture. In this series called "Canceled," we will talk about what it means as Christians to live in a cancel culture and explore whether cancel culture is Biblical. We will wrestle with loving people who are difficult to love in our lives. I Samuel 24:1-7, Matthew 5:38-45 Next Steps: Identify someone in your life you have hostility or anger toward. Pray for them by name each day this week. Avoid the tendency to pray for them to have a change of heart. Instead, pray that God will bless them. Look for opportunities to go above and beyond in how kind you are this week. Castle Hills Christian Church 6209 West Ave San Antonio, Texas 78213 info@chccsa.com chccsa.com chccsa.info

Deborah Wahl is a veteran of the marketing and business world. She is a leading innovator amongst chief marketing officers, revitalizing brands by aligning customer and company objectives across industries and markets. Deborah is currently the global CMO of General Motors and CMO of Cadillac. She was the CMO of McDonald's USA for three years. And prior to that, she had incredible senior level and C-suite positions at Pulte Group, Chrysler, Lexus, Toyota, and Ford. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: How to become introspective Choosing the company or people you want to work with The reasons that hold people back from reinventing their lives Reinvention tips How to tackle your fear of failure Advice to young entrepreneurs Deborah's daily practices that set her up for success Episode Highlights: How to Become Introspective We all get so busy in our current jobs or roles that we don't take the time to be introspective. And it's usually when you do a job change that's the most valuable time in the world because it forces you to stop and think and dive deep. So try to go back to what motivated you when you were young and before your career. Ask yourself what were those things that brought you complete joy in life and when were you happiest? Choosing The Company or People You Want to Work With Notice the importance of who you work with. Understand what their personal values are and check if you really buy into that. Find that match. Then you start putting together your environment, what drives your joyfulness, the purpose of a company, and where you want to go. The Reasons That Hold People Back From Reinventing Their Lives People just don't make time for them or they don't know what to do or how to tap into their purpose or passions. And then, sometimes they'll wake up 10-15 years later, and they still don't know where they're going or what they're doing. They still don't feel connected to who they really want to be in life. Reinvention Tips We have to work from a place of safety and confidence. The more everyone can provide that, the more everyone blossoms. If we shine the light on these great ideas and the efforts that people have, it's just going to blossom so much more than when people are throwing salt or trying to put holes in your ideas. It doesn't mean you shouldn't be rigorous. But you have to come from a place of support and good intention. You have to work on this purposefully because it can be so easy for your ego to step in and be worried about territories. How to Tackle Your Fear of Failure You never advance personally or learn until you get yourself into a situation that makes you so uncomfortable. So take a risk because it builds confidence every time. And oftentimes, there are people who will offer their support. If you come to work every day and do a great job and really do your best then that's what you should be proud of. There are some things you can't control but all you can control is doing your best and constantly striving and then putting yourself out there. And the only way we grow is if we go into spaces that are uncomfortable for us. Resources Mentioned: Reinvent Your Life! What Are You Waiting For by Kathi Sharpe-Ross
