Toowomba Australia, which is in Queensland in case you were curious - is not a place we ever thought we'd end up but in this little place is home to a brand that's known world wide - Cas Cakery. Cassie, or “Cas” speaks with us today about her journey and what is so interesting here is that in such a short space of time she has rocketed her business from nothing to something incredible in just 5 short years. What I love about Cassie is she reminds us about being honest about ourselves, reminding ourselves to make it fun, and most importantly, just take care of yourself. The stress of running a baking business can take its toll on all of us. Cassie has been very good about making sure she looks after herself mentally, physically, and emotionally. Doing this has only allowed herself to blossom further in her business and push herself forward even more. Of course, she didn't always do it this way. She's hit that burn out stage multiple times, with frustration running high. But through all that she's learned to watch for it before it happens so she can deal with it better. I think this is a skill that we don't all have. So, this is why this episode makes for a great listen. Seeing that signs that suggest you need to adjust what you're doing. Do you struggle with burn out, resentment, frustration? Keep listening, there might be something in this that will help you take it all in your stride and manage it. I really hope you enjoy this one. The road to building a successful business isn't always easy. There will, for sure, be lots of blood, sweat and tears along the way and many moments where we wonder if it will ever pay off. Never underestimate the power of a Mother in need of feeding and caring for her children. In this podcast we are joined by Denise Christopher, owner of Attention To Detail Janitorial Services. She shares with us her reason for pushing through adversity and never taking NO for an answer. Denise exemplifies what the combination of hard work, determination and grace look like. There is so much we can all learn from Denise and her success as a Mother and business owner. Denise is a mom of 3 girls ages 24, 21 and 6. They are her life, her purpose, and her motivation.Attention To Detail Janitorial Services, is currently in their 11th year of service. Denise runs the company with her partner in life and in business, Laszlo. They are also agents for Weichert Realtors for the past 7 years. She started the company in 2012 after moving back from living in the Caribbean for 11 years. When she moved back to NJ, she was a single mom (of 2 at the time) and needed to support them and herself. She needed to put gas into the borrowed car she was using; she was doing freelance work in the social media marketing and graphic design area which she started in 2009 originally but it wasn't enough to pay the bills… she had the hustle and work ethic but wasn't sure where to apply it, so…. she asked her sister if she'd pay her to clean her house, and that's where it started.Fast forward 11 years, Attention To Detail Janitorial Services has 15 employees, expanded to servicing about 60 local businesses, many several days a week. ATD is also in the estate clean out business and works with several local attorneys and real estate agents, fulfilling their need to sort through items carefully, pack items for the families and donate to several people in need. She's had so many crazy experiences she could write a book at this point! Its been a struggle and a juggle at times but wouldn't change a thing. In this episode, Dawn Taylor joins me to discuss handling mental health issues when running your own business. The truth is we all experience highs and lows. But sometimes, those lows can feel paralyzing. You know what you want to do next in your business, but you can't seem to get through this intense fear, sadness, anxiety or depression that you're feeling. So, how do we manage how we feel while managing a business simultaneously? How do we give ourselves the space to heal and grow while keeping our companies going? Dawn is a Life Coach with over 1000 hours of training who offers her clients “A Safe Place to Land” as she passionately helps them to find their worth, learn to live and love themselves. Having struggled with gut-wrenching depression, a broken back, sexual abuse by an uncle (coupled with a lack of belief from her family), a severe eating disorder, attempted suicide and a brain aneurysm which affected her memory, appearance and health – all before she was 18 years old – Dawn learned to become a fighter and a survivor. She then went on to deal with infertility and loss of identity in who she was and who she thought she should be. Through incredible strength, an insane amount of hope, a belief in herself and a stubbornness that would have made her fun to raise, she has fought to become the woman she is today: A successful business owner, coach, wife and volunteer to the hurt. Her deepest desire is to turn everyone she meets into their own rockstar through her strategy-based coaching practice. Makers Gonna Sell: A Podcast for Creative Entrepreneurs with Cheryl Ham and Nicky Avery
We became business owners to have the freedom to determine our own success. Since we are now our own bosses and sometimes even our only employee, we tend to see all of our time as potential work hours. You hear about “the hustle” from influencers and how as an entrepreneur, all your time must be devoted to achieving success. Look y'all, we're here to tell you a secret that we've learned the hard way: taking a break from work, and even planning out rest periods is not a bad thing at all but needed if you're going to keep having the energy you need to keep advancing forward. Allowing for some time during your week for rest is absolutely essential. This can be in the form of a slow start to the day to have some coffee or tea and do some reflecting or completing a set number of tasks and taking some time off for you and your workers. It's not enough to just work until you're done and then take a rest. Taking the time to plan out some periods of rest are what's needed not only for peace of mind, but also to recuperate your creativity and motivation to keep going. So grab that coffee or brew that tea and listen to our conversation about the important need to take it easy. Quotes: “This is the thing: your business isn't a dash, you're wanting to create longevity here, longevity in your business. It's it isn't created from nonstop work! The secret sauce is being able to rest, not just physically but also your mind; you've got to shut it off.” – Nicky “If you have a business, there is never going to be a day that you're going to wake up and be like, oh, there's no more work left to do. It's all been done. Never going to happen. I think we all need to acknowledge that like, there is a never-ending supply of work, and you can't work 24/7. I think when you wrap your head around that it makes it a lot easier to take rest times.” – Cheryl “I think it was really hard for me to make the decision in my brain that rest is good. For me, it's good for my business for me to realize that just because I'm sitting here doesn't mean that all of a sudden, my business is going to fail.” – Nicky “I would challenge you to think about doing something if you're not paying yourself yet. I think it's important for your business to be rewarding you in some way. Even at the very beginning, when you're not making a ton of money to support your household or whatever yet, you should still find some way to reward yourself for your work.” – Cheryl Key Points and Takeaways: - Work to live, don't live to work! Make time in your schedule for yourself outside of work - Learning that stepping away isn't going to ruin you is crucial to renew yourself and your creativity - Resting isn't about being lazy, it's for your mental health and to keep you working toward your success Have a subject you'd like us to cover or just want to comment about how much you love the podcast? What's up everybody!? AJ here with another awesome episode of the Cashflow 2 Freedom podcast. Today's guest is Trevor Oldham, founder of Podcasting You. In college, Trevor had started a social media group that exploded to over 600,000 followers. This inspired Trevor to launch a podcast in addition to their social media presence. Seeing the value of podcasting, Trevor began thinking of ways to leverage the medium. After years of running his own podcast, it dawned on him, why doesn't he utilize his experience and advise and assist other content creators with their podcasts. So began Podcasting You. Podcasting You helps identify and schedule guests for podcasters. In this episode Trevor shares how he started the company and the struggles he faced throughout the process. We also dive into the importance of knowing who to surround yourself with and who not to surround yourself with, and the experience of living those challenges. Be sure to check out Podcasting You at https://podcastingyou.com/about Thanks for listening everybody! Keep crushing it out there! AJ
Running your own company is immensely gratifying but also terrifying. There is no better feeling than watching your vision take off and become a living, breathing entity that changes your life and those around you. I believe running your own company is like being a professional athlete. Many of us look up to professional athletes, fantasizing about being in their shoes, in all their moments of glory. However, many don't often think about is the enormous amount of dedication, willpower and the failures that they had to overcome to achieve success. Strangely enough, this same phenomenon occurs when people look up to entrepreneurs.
