Send us a textHormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can provide several benefits for women going through menopause. Some of those benefits include: relief from hot flashes & night sweats, improved mood and mental health, bone health, vaginal health, prevention of heart disease, better quality sleep, improved skin elasticity. All of these benefits are in direct correlation with a better overall quality of life. In the 1990's HRT brought relief from the undesirable symptoms of menopause to millions of women who were enjoying the benefits. However, in 2002 the NIH (National Institutes of Health) held a press conference to announce that HRT caused breast cancer based on findings from an ongoing study. The study was called the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). It claimed that HRT increased breast cancer by 26%, therefore the study was stopped early based on these findings. As a result, HRT was abandoned and labeled as a carcinogen which sent a ripple effect of fear through the medical world. But was it really true? In his book, Blind Spots written by Dr. Marty Makary, he explores what happens when medicine gets it wrong and what it means for our health. In Chapter 2 Dr Makary dives down the rabbit hole of HRT and the skewed results of the WHI study and the impact this decision has made to the health of millions of American women. To this day women are being deprived of life changing treatment that could dramatically impact their health in significant ways and help them avoid death and disease prematurely. Cortisol is a stress hormone secreted by the adrenals that has helpful effects short-term, but chronic elevated output can have damaging long-term effects. In the short term, cortisol is our "fight or flight" response to stressful situations such as trauma, infection, surgery or emotional stress. In the long term, cortisol creates chronic stress that eventually leads to exhaustion and harmful health effects such as poor wound healing, stomach ulcers, diabetes, weakness, depression, yeast overgrowth, bone loss and abdominal weight gain. Trusting that when you share your most vulnerable parts, people will see you and still love you for who you are. Accountability is often what stops us from taking the steps to move forward with changes that we know we need to make out of fear of exposing our most vulnerable parts. Until we face our accountability we often live in a place of self sabotage which leads to self medication and ultimately avoidance of the issue. As Health Coaches, we are the accountability partner for our clients and we know how impactful it can be to face accountability and step into it. Freedom from the issues that burden your mental and physical health are on the other side of accepting accountability. According to the CDC, 1 out of 7 couples has trouble conceiving. In the next 10 years that number is expected to reach 1 out of 3. Combine this with the female menstrual cycle and the result could present itself in the form of PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). Imagine if there was a way you could heal from PMDD. Research has shown a link between unresolved pain and trauma and the severity of PMDD symptoms. After personally experiencing profound healing from PMDD, Rachel became trained and certified in the same therapy that saved her. Her work is all about healing at a subconscious level so that negative beliefs are reframed and therefore no longer triggered when the hormones shift. She uses a therapy model RTT, Rapid Transformational Therapy, which uses a combination of hypnotherapy, CBT and neuroscience alongside coaching and menstrual cycle awareness, which creates the deep lasting change in her clients.
