Netflix's live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's groundbreaking comic book series, "The Sandman," continues to captivate audiences with its rich storytelling and stellar cast. The series premiered on August 5, 2022, and quickly garnered critical acclaim, including a 9/10 review from IGN, which praised it as an adaptation fans "could only conjure up in their deepest of sleeps." Production for Season 2 resumed in November, and Netflix has now announced the actors who will portray Dream's previously unseen siblings. Esme Creed-Miles, known for her role in "The Doll Factory," will play Delirium. Adrian Lester, star of "Primary Colors," will take on the role of Destiny. Barry Sloane, familiar to many from "Revenge" and the first-person shooter franchise "Call of Duty," will embody The Prodigal, also known as Destruction. These new cast members join returning stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, Kirby as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Donna Preston as Despair. Other familiar faces returning for Season 2 include Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, and many more. Barry Sloane's casting is particularly notable for fans of "Call of Duty," where he voices the beloved character Captain Price. His transition from video games to a major role in "The Sandman" highlights the diverse talent of the cast. While Season 2 does not yet have a release date, Netflix's recent announcements and teasers suggest that fans might not have to wait too long for the new season. With the cast complete, the anticipation for the next chapter in "The Sandman" saga is higher than ever.

Timestamps: "The Mandalorian": (00:01:00) "The Sandman": (00:11:40) Series Synopsis: The Mandalorian is an American space Western television series created by Jon Favreau for the streaming service Disney+. It is the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise, beginning five years after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983), and stars Pedro Pascal as the title character, a lone bounty hunter who goes on the run to protect the Force-sensitive child Grogu. Starting in the third season, Katee Sackhoff also stars as Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan Kryze. "The Sandman" is an American fantasy drama television series based on the 1989–1996 comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics. The series was developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg for the streaming service Netflix and is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. Like the comic, The Sandman tells the story of Dream/Morpheus, the titular Sandman. The series stars Tom Sturridge as the title character, with Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles.

Chronscast - The Fantasy, Science Fiction & Horror Podcast

We're joined today by Tade Thompson, the multi award-winning author of such books as Rosewater, Making Wolf, Far From the Light of Heaven, and the Molly Southbourne novellas. He is also a self-confessed comics junkie, which he proved when he joined us last year to delve into the great WATCHMEN. This year Tade talks with us about Sandman, arguably Neil Gaiman's greatest piece of work, and another example of the comic book medium bursting free from its pulpy roots and demonstrating that it can stand up as art and literature. Sandman's mantelpiece, groaning under the weight of a World Fantasy Award (the only comic to have achieved this), a Bram Stoker Award, and no fewer than 26 Eisner awards, attests to this. The recent and long-awaited Netflix adaptation of Sandman starring Tom Sturridge has also been a worldwide success.Be warned! This show comes with huge spoilers not just for the first couple of volumes of Sandman, which have been adapted by Netflix, but for the whole comic book series, and we will be discussing the final ending. You have been advised! We talk about the psychoanalytic and mythological structures that form the foundation of Sandman, and particularly the characters of Dream and his siblings. We discuss our capacity as humans to use our dreams to simulate strategies in the waking world, and why dreams rub up against desires. Tade walks us through the history of the Sandman IP, and we pontificate on whether a piece of work such as this can be fully formed in the mind of the author, or whether it was discovered as Gaiman progressed through the telling. We also discuss horror more generally, reflecting some recent conversations on the Chrons boards, and how to best define that slippery genre. In particular we talk about Tade's most recent novella Jackdaw, a magnificent exploration into obsession, art, the creative act, and its relationship to science.Elsewhere The Judge wraps up the topic of plagiarism, with some advice to authors on how we can protect ourselves against copyright infringement, or having your work stolen. We return with a new episode of the Geektown Radio podcast, and this week we have a special show dedicated to MCM Comic-Con, which was held in London over the weekend. As I'm currently buried under a mountain of editing, the episode this week features a number of clips from panels and interviews at MCM Comic-Con. We have Michael Sheen dishing the dirt (sort of...) on David Tennant, as he chats about his 'Good Omens' co-star. We have Mason Alexander Park & Tom Sturridge, aka Desire and Dream from Netflix's 'The Sandman' talking about their characters. We also have a longer interview with the creators and star of 'We Are Not Alone', a brand new original film coming to UKTV's Dave channel later this month.'We Are Not Alone' stars Declan Baxter as hapless Clitheroe resident Stewart, selected by Gu'uns Trater (Vicki Pepperdine), Gordan (Mike Wozniak) and Greggs (Joe Thomas) as their official human liaison. Stewart must help the Gu'uns win favour with humankind, secretly aid Grieves (Amanda Abbington) and the human resistance, and somehow manage his enduring crush on Elodie (Georgia May Foote). The film comes from Laurence Rickard & Ben Willbond, two of the people behind hit comedy 'Ghosts', along with the wonderful 'Yonderland' and 'Horrible Histories'. In the interview, we chat with Laurence, Ben and Declan about their new project. In addition to all that, we also bring you the latest television renewals and cancellations, including the news about 'The Witcher' Season 4. Kristen Meinzer is a culture critic and host of the podcast "By The Book" and Rafer Guzman is a film critic for Newsday. Together Kristen and Rafer are the co-hosts of the podcast, Movie Therapy, and they joined The Takeaway to give their picks for Halloween movie prescriptions for different occasions. KRISTEN'S PICKS: Movie prescription for a romantic night: Warm Bodies (2013) A zombie romantic comedy. After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world. Movie prescription for family viewing: Cruella (2021)Cruella isn't specifically a Halloween movie, but it has that Halloweeny goth vibe and loads of fabulous costumes...as well as our lead's fabulous disguise! Movie prescription for satire/comedy lovers: Velvet Buzzsaw (2019) A satirical horror comedy about the art world - from the snobbery to the wealth to all the people who take themselves way too seriously - starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Zawe Ashton, Rene Russo, Toni Collette, Daveed Diggs, Nitya Vidyasagar, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Billy Magnussen, Mig Macario, and John Malkovich. RAFER'S PICKS: Date horror movie: Night of the Comet (1984) Little known horror-comedy from 1984. Great valley-girls-versus-zombies premise, fun cast (Dick Rude, Mary Woronov) and a rare Hispanic leading man. Cute, funny, scary and romantic. Joss Whedon cited it as one inspiration for “Buffy and the Vampire Slayer.” Horror movie with the kids: Gremlins (1984) I still love this movie, which I saw as a kid, and I was just delighted by it. During the pandemic, I rented a movie theater for my son's birthday, and this is what we saw. I was really happy to see them jump out of their chairs one minute and then crack up the next. Plus it takes place during Christmas, so it's really an all-fall holiday treat. Best ‘70s horror movie you probably haven't seen: The Brood (1979)Early David Cronenberg, an extremely weird movie about a divorce that leads to the psychic birth of demonic children who roam around killing adults. Great cast, with Samantha Eggar as a kind of queen bee of the demon-spawn, and Oliver Reed as the leader of a 70s self-help cult that goes too far. Cronenberg wrote it following his own divorce, and it came out the same year as Kramer Vs Kramer, hilariously. Roger Ebert called it “reprehensible trash.”

Prophecy Radio episode #54 dives into the latest news in the Riordanverse, including three—yes, you heard right—THREE blog posts from Rick Riordan. This includes updates on Rick Riordan Presents, the latest casting information for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show, as well as the announcement of Percy Jackson Book 6 (aka Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods). We also return to our Percy Jackson reread with a discussion of The Last Olympian chapter 8. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:28) If you haven't already, be sure to listen to our interview with Roseanne A. Brown about Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting. Roseanne is also doing an educator giveaway of the book, ending 10/28. Read Riordan put up another OTP Timelines article—this time about Leo and Calypso. This isn't really news, but we love Angie Thomas and Rick Riordan's friendship. Blog-a-palooza (00:06:56) We have a lot of blog posts to talk about this week—and one extra than we expected! There's so much awesome news, so let's just get into it. First up is the October 9 blog post, titled “News from the Riordanverse October 2022.” You can still pre-order signed copies of The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro from Barnes & Noble. We're pretty excited that Rick mentions there could be more Will and Nico books in the future. We talk about some Trials of Apollo spoilers and how it could affect The Sun and the Star. What other characters do you think we'll get to see in this book? Don't forget about The Lords of Night by J.C. Cervantes! And how could we forget about The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi!? It's so interesting that Filipino mythology is one of the most requested topics for them to explore. Rick also gives us a few updates from the set of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We learn roughly where we are in the adaptation of The Lightning Thief. Rick says more nice things about Walker and Leah, and we love to hear it. We guess as to which on-set dog Rick recently met. Rick also has some very interesting insight into the production process and how much he's learned about making a film/television adaptation. It's time to quiz Kristen on more TV/film lingo! Next up: The October 13 blog post, “More Casting News for PJOTV.” Jessica Parker Kennedy has been cast as Medusa. Kristen has definitely seen her in quite a few different shows. She also seems to be a Jon Steinberg darling, and it's exciting that they've worked together so many times! Suzanne Cryer has been cast as Echidna, and she has A LOT of TV credits to her name. Like, a lot. You've probably seen her in something. Her Instagram post about the announcement was so beautiful and heartwarming. Lastly, we've got Adam Copeland as Ares, and is there a more perfect person to step into this role? Maybe this is a good excuse for Karen to finally watch Vikings. Lastly, we've got the October 18 blog post about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. Karen reads you the entire blog post so you don't miss A SINGLE DETAIL. Make sure you also read the Publisher's Weekly article, which offers a few additional details. Rick was REALLY trying to get the PJOTV off the ground, and we're here for it. How do we feel about calling Chalice of the Gods Percy Jackson 6? When does this book take place? Okay, but, like, is this the first in a trilogy…? Yeah, we're gonna buy this no matter what, you don't have to worry about that. We're PRETTY sure no one is going to die in this book, so don't panic! Rick reminds us just how much of a big deal Percy Jackson and the Olympians really is. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (01:06:37) This week, we're discussing The Last Olympian chapter 8. It feels like it's been ages, but we're back! That windowless, doorless room is cruel and unusual punishment. Why has Percy been dreaming of Rachel throughout this book? Who does that power belong to? We liked the countdown with Typhon instead of racing the clock against another solstice. This episode proves we need to work on our United States geography. Let's talk about this whole situation between Percy and Nico. One thing's for sure, we're always going to talk about how much we love Mrs. O'Leary. Achilles seems to have learned a lot from his death. Okay, we find out the real reason why Luke was able to host Kronos. We love Nico so much, but he's driving us crazy in this book. Is it weird that Percy submerges completely in the River Styx? We loved the moment when Percy pins Hades, but maybe he should've made sure the river thing worked first. Rick didn't have to include that moment with Hades' cloak, but we're glad he did. Feedback (01:33:54) Ian wants to remind everyone to go listen to our Daughter of the Deep review if you've read the book! He also has some clever ideas for the Percy Jackson Monopoly pieces. Sword of Avalon also has some great ideas to improve our Demigod Life game. Thanks for the kind words, too! Henry wrote us a monster of a letter, and we tackle a couple of the most important sections. We really love doing chapters one at a time, even if The Red Pyramid is a bigger book. Thanks for correcting a few timeline things for us! We're old and our memories are bad. We want Tom Sturridge as Morpheus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 5! Henry also gives us a great idea for our 100th episode. Is Nico friendly with Anubis, the Egyptian God of Death? He also has a tech question for us, and we need your help! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 55, which will do a Monster Guide on Procrustus. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. The Sandman is an American fantasy drama television series based on the 1989–1996 comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics. The series was developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg for the streaming service Netflix, and is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. Like the comic, The Sandman tells the story of Morpheus, the titular Sandman. The series stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, with Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles. Efforts to adapt The Sandman to film began in 1991, and floundered in development hell for many years. In 2013, Goyer pitched a film adaptation of the series to Warner Bros. Goyer and Gaiman were set to produce alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was planned to star and possibly direct. However, Gordon-Levitt exited over creative differences in 2016. Due to the prolonged development of the film, Warner Bros. shifted its focus to television. Netflix signed a deal to produce the series in June 2019, and filming lasted from October 2020 to August 2021. The Sandman premiered on August 5, 2022. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise going towards the casting, production design, costumes, faithfulness to its source material, visual effects, and performances, particularly those of Sturridge and David Thewlis, though some criticized its pacing and story. Not having read the graphic novel series, my anticipation for Netflix's live-action adaptation of The Sandman was based on solely on my love of Neil Gaiman's other works (American Gods), the visuals in the trailer, and the diversity of the cast. Everything delivered in the first two episodes. Charles Dance's Roderick Burgess was like if Tywin Lannister went to Hogwarts — and you know he'd have been Slytherin — and Tom Sturridge is about to AMSR his way into reading some Buzzfeed thirst tweets. It's not until episode two, when Sturridge's Morpheus witnesses the cost of his absence, that things get truly beautiful.

The Sandman is a much-loved series of graphic novels written by Neil Gaiman (see also: Stardust, American Gods, Coraline and Good Omens with Sir Terry Pratchett) and it's finally - after two decades lurking in Development Hell - been turned into a TV show, now on Netflix. Tom Sturridge stars as the titular character, all cheekbones and black robes, who embodies the concept of storytelling and dreaming in a world that also features Death, Despair, Desire and many other anthropomorphic personifications known as 'The Endless'. It's a fascinating dark fantasy drama and it was Ali's great pleasure to talk to Morpheus himself (as he's also known) over Zoom just before the show's big BFI premiere that evening - hear their chat here, and do your best not to nod off...

One of Neil Gaiman's most iconic works has finally come to Netflix as a TV series, but the path it took to wind up there was long and bumpy. In episode 237, Luke & James react to the first five episodes of Allen Heinberg's adaptation, wonder what it means for something to be “unfilmable” these days, give props to Tom Sturridge's portrayal of an eternal godlike being, react to the amazing David Thewlis bringing an unassuming side to the demented Doctor Destiny, and raise some potential concerns about a comedic raven. They finish with some speculation (sure to be wrong) about what's coming next for them in both the comic and the show! In Episode 1 of Season 9: The Beat Generation, the guys discuss the most famous of all the Beat books: "On the Road." The book was written by Jack Kerouac, published in 1957, and was adapted for the screen in 2012. The film was directed by Walter Salles and written for the screen by Jose Rivera (who both worked on "The Motorcycle Diaries" together), and stars Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Elisabeth Moss, Kirsten Dunst, and Viggo Mortensen. The conversation in this episode ranges from the struggles reading the novel's diaristic flow, the sad (not upbeat) tone of the film adaptation, the miscasting of Dean Moriarty, and whether it even makes sense to adapt a novel like "On the Road." We have a guest, the news, Top 5 Doctors from Doctor Who, and what we're watching!! Two guests in two weeks, how lucky are we right?  The Dude stops by again to catch up with Chris and Jerry. Its been awhile since we last talked with the dude, but he's back to fill us in on what he's been up to, and what he's been watching.Jerry starts us off with a bunch of news!  A Justice League Dark tv show has been confirmed from HBO Max, heading up the show is JJ Abrams.  Somewhat concerning with what he has done in the past with certain properties, but what the heck lets give him a chance, Justice League Dark is something different than regular Comic Books and movies.  So we are excited to see what comes of this. The comic book Sandman by Neil Gaiman is getting a tv show adaptation as well, and they have recently released the castings for that.  Tom Sturridge, Gwendolyn Christie, possibly Terron Edgerton and many many more were discussed. The new Disney Plus show "The Mighty Ducks:Game Changers" is being released on March 26th and a trailer has been released for the upcoming show.  Jerry explains his take of the trailer to Chris and Dude, and everyone seems pretty optimistic about the show.  There is a big time "Cobra Kia" vibe to this show, which is obviously not a bad thing.  People are enjoying that show, and i think this will be a fun watch for adults and kids at the same time.Raya and the Last Dragon had a new trailer drop as well before its upcoming release on Disney plus and theaters March 5th.  It looks incredible and has a great cast involved.  Once all the news talk is complete, Chris and Jerry embark on a journey that takes them through years passed. Remembering where they were they first heard the Doctor udder a heart felt monologue to change the course of time and space. "People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect but actually from a non-linear, non subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff."  After the call backs and the nostalgia, Chris and Jerry decide to Rank the Doctors from the newest incarnation of the TV show starting back up in 2005.  There have been exactly 5 doctors in that time frame and we decide who is our favorite.  If you are unfamiliar with Doctor Who thats ok!!! This episode will give you a lot of knowledge into the character and the show itself. From this episode forward you will have no reason not to run home and binge Doctor Who, all seasons are streaming on HBO Max right now!!!Finally we have a few what we're watching and break off in a tangent about the recent stock market debacle happening on wall street at the moment of this recording. The Creative Briefing – Transformation – October 2019Abstract - Our host for the month of October, Digital Strategist, Beauty & Fitness Model and Executive Producer of Melange 2019, Mara De Los Santos introduces the topic of the month - Transformation - discussing it with the Artistic Directors of Creative Pois-On, Daniela Pavan and Tommaso Cartia, in a creative briefing anticipating the upcoming episodes: The Creative Bridge with Daniela, exploring the business side of the topic; The Creative Being with Tommaso, and The Creative Interview featuring a special guest who strongly embodies the Transformation theme. By Tommaso Cartia & Daniela Pavan“Why transformation, you may wonder. According to the dictionary, the meaning of the word transformation is ‘a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance. A metamorphosis during the life cycle of an animal.’ We are in October, the quintessential month of change and transformation… starting from the seasonal shift. We just ended summer, days are getting shorter and shorter, we will start shivering, we will have to change our wardrobe, the way we dress, technically if we were animals, well we are, we should go to hibernation… so it is indeed a transformative time. It’s a season full of changes, when crops and fruits are gathered and leaves shade in to red, yellow and then fall, transforming completely the landscape in front of our eyes…”As the discussion unfolds, the theme of Transformation finds its incarnations in a vast spectrum of subjects: from the archaic roots of Halloween, the folklore of the Venetian Carnival, and the current shifting trends of New York Fashion Week 2019, where the Melange Movement was a protagonist; to the transformation we could experience through the dramatic arts, with an exclusive look on the Sea Wall / A Life Broadway show with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge.
