It's almost the end of the school year and some college grads will be looking to start a career in editing or post production. My guest on episode 18 of the Hollywood Editing Mentor podcast is post production assistant Haylie Bantle, who was my first mentee of the Hollywood Editing Mentor program. Haylie graduated from college about a year ago right when the pandemic hit and was looking to pursue a career in post production in Hollywood. She signed up to work with me for eight sessions and before we got to finish all of our one-on-one virtual classes, she was able to find a job in Los Angeles in the middle of the pandemic while living in another city.In this episode, Haylie and I talk about our experience working together and what she got out of this program, what steps she took to secure her first job in LA, developing effective networking strategies, the benefits of having a mentor, the things they don’t teach you in film school, tips for creating a great resume, the importance of looking out for your own interests, and what her life has been like now that she’s been living and working in Hollywood. Haylie also shares her biggest piece of advice for graduating students that are looking to begin their editing career.Another great episode with a lot of practical information and real-life experiences that you can use to learn and develop strategies to start your own journey to achieving your career goals. Have you ever feel that your performance was compromised because you got too nervous?   Don't worry, you're not alone. Most of us seek to avoid nervousness.    Joining the conversation on Cue To Cue today is  Actor/Coach/Founder Of The Performers Mindset Joe Towne who reminds us that even though we think that we have to be nerve-free to be at our best, that is not true. We need to be stressed enough that we have the opportunity to be at our edge of growth, but not too far to be overwhelmed or too little to be bored. What do you struggle most during auditions? Do you look for someone else to tell you how your performance went? Joe explains that is a misunderstanding of what your job is and that is an all to common reflex among performers. It's a trap, that somebody knows better than you do which can lead to anticipatory stress, comparison, and a lack of confidence. Focus on yourself and aim for excellence and do better than you've ever done before. Learn, grow, and expand! Enjoy today's episode! Multiple studies show that early and ongoing treatment with disease-modifying therapy is the most effective way to slow MS progression, modify the course of the disease, and maintain optimal brain health. Yet, for many people living with MS, these life-changing treatments remain out of reach. The National MS Society has released the results of a new survey that demonstrates that this problem may be much larger and more serious than you may have imagined.     My guests are Tim Coetzee, the Chief Advocacy, Research, and Services Officer, and Bari Talente, the Executive Vice President of Advocacy for the National MS Society, and we're talking about the barriers to accessing MS medications and what can be done to bring those barriers down.   We're also talking about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to reject a petition filed by 20 state attorneys general, the U.S. House of Representatives, and supported by the National MS Society and 23 other patient organizations, to issue an expedited ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. We'll tell you about a study that shows that mothers of children living with MS are experiencing significant levels of anxiety and mood disorders.    We'll share some good news for people in Europe living with secondary progressive MS. We'll tell you where you can catch the replay of last week's International Progressive MS Alliance Managing Symptoms & Enhancing Well-Being in Progressive MS Facebook Live event. And we'll tell you how a group of insurance companies is banding together to lower the price of generic prescription medications.   We have a lot to talk about! November is National Family Caregiver Month, and while I was at the 4th Annual National Caregiving Conference in Chicago, I met this week's guest, Caregiver Strategist Penny Patnaude. Penny and I talked about some of the things that caregivers want to be thinking about in planning their own strategy for providing great care to their loved one without losing themselves in the process.    I'll also introduce you to Dr. Lindsey Knowles, a young MS rehabilitation researcher who will give us an insider's look at what the Tykeson Fellows Conference is all about, and why it's so important for the future of MS research.   We're also talking about the cannabis-based treatment for MS spasticity that was approved in the U.K. You'll hear about last week's International Progressive MS Alliance meeting in Amsterdam, and we'll tell you about an investigational therapy that can reset the immune system in the mouse model of MS in a single dose.   We'll remind you that if you're a young adult, between 18 and 45 years old, First Descents is offering you a week-long ski trip to Crested Butte, Colorado. And it's FREE!     Rachel Scott is a yoga teacher trainer, instructional designer, and writer.  She regularly contributes to Yoga International and is the author of Wit and Wisdom from the Yoga Mat and A Yogi's Guide to Dating.  With over 4000 hours as a yoga teacher trainer, her passion for helping yoga educators create excellent trainings certainly shows through.  I am so grateful to have Rachel and her captivating energy on this episode!  You've probably guessed by now that the topic is all about Yoga Teacher Training.  In specific, Rachel helps us understand what separates an exceptional training from a disappointing one.  You're going to want to listen in whether you're considering taking your first yoga teacher training, continuing yoga education or playing around with the idea of being a teacher trainer yourself.  Rachel breaks down the reason why sometimes amazing yoga teachers deliver a less than satisfying training, prepares you with pertinent questions to ask if you're looking into taking a training, and lays out what makes a remarkable teacher training (spoiler alert: part of it falls on the responsibility of the student). I wish I could tell the whole wide world about this one because so many people struggle to find a good yoga teacher training.  It's not something that you'd want to roll the dice on either, seeing as how each training is thousands of dollars.  Rachel's advice is worth its weight in gold!  So if you know somebody who would benefit from this info, keep the good vibes going and SHARE THIS EPISODE! Many thanks to you for joining me.  Now, plug in those headphones and listen away! In 2015, on a street in London, Sheree Angela Matthews was listening to a podcast. The podcast just happened to be my conversation with Shannon Crotty, founder of Polka Dot Powerhouse. Sheree started crying while listening and decided to reach out. I am so pleased she did. Her journey, which she shares with us today, is personal, touching and transformational.   Those Who Can’t Do, Teach?  Sheree has been writing since she was 6 years old. Her father would give her a notebook and a pencil and tell her to amuse herself. She used to make stories of a little mouse who was always the hero and who always saved the day. During her educational years, there was never any talk of being able to have a career in writing. Students were guided towards more traditional work, like police women or teachers. So, Sheree became a teacher but she was secretly writing the entire time. She now has a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from Newcastle University, two full-length collections of published poetry, she is an expert in Black, British Women’s Poetry, and she is working on her new book. Once she started to take herself seriously as a writer, others did too.   A Need to Be Needed Sheree knows she has a deep need to be needed by others. Patterns of finding broken people with hopes of mending them started back when she would try anything to get attention from her father. She says she felt she was forever a disappointment to him and she never felt his love.   Socially Challenged Sheree has had a trying time the last couple of years. She experienced something which caused deep wounds in her soul. People she thought were her friends were saying awful things about her. They called her a liar, a cheat and a thief on Facebook. She lost herself in her own guilt, shame and self-hatred. She has since risen up from the abyss and has used her intense feelings to write her book, Rubedo: one woman’s search for her authentic voice. It is a gift she shares with her readers and listeners of this podcast to let them know they are not alone. Sheree acknowledges her fear that there will be vultures swirling around her new book, lying in wait for even the tiniest of mistakes, but that’s OK with her. She doesn’t need their approval. I recommend Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers, a great resource for those of you who may be afraid to step out into your triumph. You can also find my conversation with Shannon Crotty here, Straight Talk for a Curvy World Episode #7.   Come Forth and Meet Your Sisterhood If you would like to read my story of overcoming fear, guilt and shame, I Am More Than Enough - Secrets, Sex, Shame and the Search for Self-love, you will have to wait until September. I wrote this book to honor the journey I took during the first half of my life and to celebrate entering the second half of my life, because I am no longer hiding.  On September 20th and 21st, you are invited to be a part of my book launch, my 50th birthday party and a gathering of world-class speakers for a VIP dinner and all-day life changing events in the lovely Minneapolis, Minnesota USA.
