The past three years have been like a whipsaw for a lot of investors. After the bizarre – incredible – runup in stocks during the Coronavirus pandemic, the past 18 months have been hard. And with interest rates now high enough to make bonds a legitimate option for returns, many people find themselves in an investing environment they have never seen before.  Count Jeff in that number. In this episode, Jeff and Jason talk through all of the changes, and why it has Jeff – and likely many other new investors – questioning whether they know how to invest anymore.  In the second part of the show, we play "Jason did a thing," or as Jeff describes it, a future opportunity to discuss one of Jason's investing mistakes.  Companies mentioned: BOA, FLGT, FRC, LOB, MTB, PNC, SIVB, TFC, ZM We would love feedback on the show. The U.S. is going through its first banking crisis – or potential crisis – in almost 15 years. And like prior panics, crises, and downturns, it seemingly came out of nowhere, with Silicon Valley Bank erupting in fire overnight, and the fire spreading to Signature Bank and threatening to send the whole neighborhood (or at least a notable cul-de-sac – of regional banks up in flames. We've seen this play out before. A crisis happens. Stocks crash. Investors either make or lose money, depending on whether they run toward the fire, or run away.  In this episode, Jeff and Jason describe their experiences during prior times of market panic, and how these can be both opportunities to profit, and potential threats to your wealth. It all depends on a few key factors.  In the second part of the show, Jason and Jeff introduce a new segment: I Did a Thing! This week, Jason drops a surprise stock sale he made on Jeff, and they talk about what changed.  Companies mentioned: SIVB, SBNY, LOB, SCHW, SOFI, NTB, CPF, AX, FRC, COIN We would love feedback on the show. Ripple XRP - Garlinghouse - Ripple EXPSURE to SVB - Financial System Is Broken - BANK RUN COMING The recent banking crisis involving Silicon Valley Bank (SIVB) and the FDIC-insured deposits of its customers has drawn attention from Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. Garlinghouse took to Twitter to criticize the broken banking system, stating that it cannot even move money 24/7/365. He also made a statement regarding Ripple's exposure to SIVB, but did not provide further details. Meanwhile, a live blog by Zero Hedge reports that the FDIC is currently holding an auction for SIVB's assets, with failed bids being the likely outcome. In related news, CNN reports that US banks are sitting on an unrealized loss of $620 billion, further highlighting the precarious state of the banking system. Meanwhile, the Zero Hedge Twitter account has criticized the Fed and Treasury for their regulatory failure in preventing billions in losses, instead focusing on board diversity and unrelated international travel. *SUPPORT ON THE CHAIN* JOIN THE CHANNEL https://otc.one/join OTC MERCH https://onthechain.shop BUY US A COFFEE https://otc.one/buy-us-a-coffee Support ON THE CHAIN https://otc.one/support -------------- *ON THE CHAIN* SUBSCRIBE TO THE OTC PODCAST: https://otc.one/podcast Subscribe to our other Youtube Channel: https://otc.one/onthechain On The Web: https://onthechain.io Follow OTC on Twitter: https://otc.one/otc Join On The Chain Community on Twitter https://twitter.com/i/communities/1599435678995062788 Join our FREE Telegram Roundtable channel: https://t.me/onthechain_roundtable -------------- *JEFF* Follow Jeff on Twitter: https://otc.one/jeff -------------- *CHIP* Follow Chip on Twitter: https://otc.one/chip Listen to Chip's music http://nojoyyet.com -------------- *DISCLAIMER:* _All opinions expressed by content contributors that appear on OTC are solely expressing their opinions and do not reflect the opinions of OTC, its affiliates, or sponsors. Explore your CI Futures options in this March Madness Promo. In this episode of The Week Ahead, the hosts discuss three key themes: Silicon Valley Bankruptcy, the Federal Reserve's Quantitative Tightening (QT) and systemic risks, and America's energy policy. The discussion begins with a focus on Silicon Valley Bank (SIVB), which had a major issue raising capital and faced a bank run on Thursday. On Friday, the California bank regulator shut the bank down. SIVB had $175 billion in deposits, $151 billion of which were uninsured. One of the discussions surrounding the SIVB collapse is how venture capitalists have been affected. The hosts then move on to discuss the Federal Reserve's QT and systemic risks. They note that the US has been experiencing strong data and inflation, and Fed Chairman Powell hinted at a 50 basis point increase this month. The hosts discuss whether the Fed will accelerate QT in this environment, what that could look like, and what risks it would pose to the US financial system. The third theme discussed is America's energy policy. Host Tracy Shuchart mentions a speech given by US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, which didn't seem to give her more confidence in Granholm's competence as an energy secretary. The discussion touches on the problems with America's energy policy and how it affects the country's overall economic outlook. Finally, the hosts share their expectations for the week ahead.Overall, this episode offers a comprehensive analysis of current events and trends in finance and policy, with a particular focus on the implications of SIVB's bankruptcy and the Federal Reserve's actions. The hosts provide insightful commentary and thought-provoking questions that will be of interest to anyone following these issues.Key themes:1. Silicon Valley Bank(ruptcy)2.
