Growing vegetables might seem an unlikely way to fight the power, but Jamiah Hargins has no doubt it offers a revolutionary means by which to address social inequity, build community and address problems centuries in the making. He quit a career in finance to focus on social entrepreneurship, founding Asante Microfarm and Crop Swap LA, and his vision of an urban paradise is, he believes, fully achievable if we engage in active optimism, and break out of the ‘self perpetuating cycle of non-action'.More about Crop Swap LAMore about Asante MicrofarmMore about LA 2050More about Enviroscapela.comListen to Tao Te Ching on Soundcloud To get in touch with us, email: podcast@optimistdrinks.comFor more about the show visit optimistdrinks.com and click on the journal pages.Follow Optimist Drinks @optimistdrinksFollow Dr Drea Letamendi @arkhamasylumdocFollow Tom Johnstone @tommyjohnstone
In this episode of “The Maximus Podcast” we talk to Tony Nash who just completed an epic Row, Ski, Bike, Running Super Marathon which totaled 66 miles. Tony is a combat veteran and currently serving in the US Army as a field artillery officer. He knows what it takes to get through some of the most mentally and physically grueling training and real-world situations that life can throw at you, and he has picked up critical pieces of knowledge to develop further as a leader, a professional, and a loving family man. And he isn't afraid to admit that he is still learning himself; his struggles and growth are a part of the unique perspective and experience that Tony has to offer. His leadership style focuses on servant leadership. He understands the vital life lesson that you may be the best at what you do, you may be killing it at your job, but you aren't developing as a leader if you are not supporting and serving others while growing the team. His goal is simple, take what he has learned and show others actionable life tactics, giving them the foundation they need at the start of their careers for a lifetime of success. You can download the episode on iTunesYou can download it on StitcherYou can download it on SoundcloudTo learn more about Joe Cebula visit his Instagram @joe_cebula If you love our content ans want to train with us join #TeamMaximus on the Ladder Teams app at www.themaximuspodcast.comWe'd like to thank our sponsors. Akshay Nanavati (@fearvana) is the author of the best selling book “Fearvana” which has been endorsed by the Dalai Lama (he actually wrote the forward). He’s done so much more than that though. He served as a Marine, he’s battled PTSD and drug addiction, been on the brink of suicide, yet managed to climb out of the proverbial darkness to cross Greenland on skis, spend 7 days in absolute darkness, run across Liberia and run 80 miles straight on a .2 mile loop. To put it mildly this was one of the most intense podcasts we have ever done. It’s a must listen. Do it now. Have you ever heard that you shouldn’t ever let your kids lift weight because it will stunt their growth. Spoiler alert: It’s not true. We hate the term “sell out”. Just because you have product to sell, you run a gym that charges a membership, you have a podcast, a book, or are successful doesn’t mean that you are less then. The fitness world is filled with people who spew hate and jealousy to those more successful than they are. They put others down, talk about how only they know the way and how all of fitness is fucked. Beware these people. Most of our podcasts we’ve dedicated to psychology and the strengthening of the mind. We didn’t neglect the body on purpose. In our opinion real training begins in the mind so we started there first. If you have been listening, taking notes, and incorporating some of the lessons you’ve learned into your life you’re probably finding yourself much more “put together” upstairs. So now it’s time to focus on the body. In this episode of “The Maximus Podcast” your hosts Joe Cebula and Bobby Maximus discuss the basics of setting up a training plan. Sometimes we may come across as judgmental pricks. We don’t mean to but when you’re in the business of dishing out “life advice” it’s an occupational hazard. It’s why we have dedicated this episode of “The Maximus Podcast” to the concept of “Redemption”. We discuss how to find redemption and how to gain forgiveness (from others and most importantly yourself). We also discuss the steps a person needs to take to truly make a long lasting and life altering behavioral change. Don’t listen if you’re looking for an easy way out or a shortcut. Making a change isn’t as simple as flipping on a light switch or saying you’re sorry. Forgiveness like progress in the gym is earned through hard work and sacrifice. Are you ready for a change? Todd White started biohacking a few years back to eat better and become healthier. He quickly discovered that he could no longer enjoy his wine without feeling sick and getting drunk easily, or have it affect his body negatively (living just outside Napa Valley mind you!!!) He realized that the same mass manufacturing that is happening to food….is happening to WINE!!!! And it’s a very well-kept secret that wine is not being grown in vineyards in chateaus in France…but being mass manufactured with all kinds of dark, dirty secrets. Check out this article Are Wines Toxic? to learn more about it. There are very few natural wine makers in the world. If we’re going to be life-long wine drinkers, we have to be careful about how much we drink and what we drink. Most of us don’t sit down and have ONE glass of wine, or one margarita….we have several. So Dry Farm Wines begins with a lower alcohol product, so we are able to have more servings. They don’t have wines over 12.5%. Standards on the shelf contain over 14% alcohol and contain sugars and other additives. There are 76 additives approved by the FDA to be used in wines across the United States. They spend tens of millions of dollars to keep labels off of wines and keep this all a secret. Dry Farm Wines procures wines from small vineyards in Europe. No wines in the US meet Dry Farm Wines criteria.
