Beyond A Million
172: 60 Days ALONE in Antarctica — What He Discovered Will Shock You - POE

Beyond A Million

This episode is part of the POE series, where we talk to entrepreneurs who have already passed the million-dollar mark. In November 2024, Akshay Nanavati set out to do what no one had ever attempted before… He wanted to complete the world's first unsupported, solo, 2,750km coast-to-coast ski crossing of Antarctica without any dogs or kites. To do this, he would need to drag a sled with a starting weight of 420 pounds from start to finish. The goal? To explore the hidden treasures of the human soul—treasures that can only be found in the depths of solitude and suffering. He wanted to push the boundaries of what's possible and share the wisdom found on the other side. His attempt was ultimately cut short due to a life-threatening infection, but not before he covered 500 miles in 60 days. In this gripping episode of Beyond A Million, Akshay recounts the journey: the intense physical and mental preparation, raising $1.1 million, spending two months in complete isolation, and confronting the unrelenting monotony of Antarctica. We also dive into how his background as a Marine, a recovering addict, and author of Fearvana shaped the philosophy that fuels his relentless drive. Hello and welcome to another episode of C60! Today we have an incredibly inspiring guest joining us: Akshay Nanavati. Akshay is the author of "Fearvana," a former Marine, and a modern-day explorer who has transformed personal adversity into a journey of purpose and enlightenment. In this episode, Akshay shares his unique philosophy of acceptance, emphasizing the power of embracing life's challenges as they come. Born in India and having faced down a troubled youth, Akshay's transformative moment came after watching "Blackhawk Down," which steered him away from a self-destructive path and into the military. Despite numerous physical challenges, he became a Marine and later confronted profound trauma and PTSD after his deployment to Iraq. Turning to neuroscience, psychology, and spirituality, he developed the ethos of "Fearvana," where fear and suffering are seen as gateways to nirvana. Akshay is now preparing for his most daring adventure yet: an unprecedented solo coast-to-coast ski crossing of Antarctica, spanning 1,700 miles over 110 days. He views this journey not just as a personal challenge but as a means to push the boundaries of human potential and share valuable insights for overcoming involuntary suffering. We'll dive deep into Akshay's personal philosophy, the concept of duality, and how embracing both light and darkness can lead to inner peace and purpose. Akshay also discusses neuroplasticity, mental endurance, and the importance of reframing pain. This episode will leave you with profound insights into navigating life's struggles and transforming them into a meaningful, fulfilling existence. That's why I don't like the idea of always being confident to take action. How can you be confident if you've never done the thing before? Confidence is the result of action, not the fuel of action." - Akshay Nanavati No Emotion Is Either Good or Bad "There's no bad emotions, there's no good emotions, there's only emotions. It's the label of bad, the assignment of the judgment of the emotion that causes more problems than the emotion itself. The second you accept the "isness" of the emotion and become aware of it without deeming it bad, then you can use any emotion as fuel to drive you into something better." - Akshay Nanavati The Power of Nature "Nature makes you realize how small you are, but at the same time, you feel all powerful out there because simply by stepping in that playground to control your reality, to be there, to survive, to thrive out there, you feel more powerful than you've ever felt. It's an experience of both control and surrender, and  ego and humility" - Akshay Nanavati Links From Today's Show  Akshay Nanavati FEARVANA: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth and Happiness by Akshay Nanavati Dave Asprey Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl BREATHE: Breath & Wellness Program - 33% off with code "PODCAST33" 410 Mark Divine | Positive Neurodiversity: Kokoro Spirit, The 5 Mountains For Inner Peace, & How To Fulfill Your Potential Black Hawk Down Braveheart 411 Gay Hendricks | The Genius Zone: The Breakthrough Process to End Negative Thinking and Live in True Creativity Finding Joe 565 Pavel Stuchlik | Connecting Back With Spirit: Dark Retreats, Iboga + EMF Detox (Your Guide To Self-Transformation) The Green Mile Akshay Nanavati on The Dr. Drew Podcast Akshay Nanavati: Find strength in fear 589 Alex Charfen | The Freedom Life: How To Program Yourself For Success In Mind, Body, Spirit + Soul 201 Finding Mastery: Micheal Gervais Support Akshay's journey The Hero's Journey: Joseph Campbell on His Life and Work by Joseph Campbell 555 Mike Dillard | Richer Every Day: How To WIN The War on Your Money + Mind Josh's Trusted Products | Up To 40% Off Shop All Products Biohacking BREATHE - 33% off with the code “PODCAST33” SaunaSpace - 10% off with the code "JOSH10" PLUNGE - $150 off with the code “WELLNESSFORCE" SiPhox - 10% off with code "JOSH" BON CHARGE - 15% off with the code "JOSH15" SpectraSculpt - 15% off with the code "JOSH15" Defender Shield - Save 10% with "TRENT10" Neuvana - Save 15% with "WELLNESSFORCE" Supplements Organifi - 20% off with the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' MANNA Vitality - 20% off with the code "JOSH20" LiftMode - Save 10% with "JOSH10" Adapt Naturals - 15% off with code "WELLNESSFORCE" MitoZen - 10% off with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” Activation Products - 20% off with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” BiOptimizers - 10% off with the code "JOSH10" Lightbody Total Eye Health - 20% off with "JOSH20" at checkout. Prepare for an awe-inspiring and transformative episode of Fight the Burnout as we sit down with the remarkable Akshay Nanavati, a true testament to the power of resilience and overcoming adversity. Akshay's life journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, from battling drug addiction and PTSD as a US Marine in Iraq, where he fearlessly walked ahead of vehicles to uncover bombs, to facing depression and alcoholism that nearly pushed him to the edge of suicide. Yet, rather than succumbing to his demons, Akshay chose to embrace them, using his indomitable spirit to turn his life around completely. Rising from the depths of despair, he has since achieved awe-inspiring feats that most would only dream of. From running numerous ultramarathons, including a grueling 24-hour run, to traversing 167 miles across Liberia to build a school, Akshay's determination knows no bounds. Not content with conquering physical challenges alone, Akshay spent 10 days in darkness and isolation, endured a bone-chilling 350-mile ski across the world's second-largest icecap in -40-degree temperatures, and became one of only 26 people to ski up a remote glacier in Antarctica, where he endured frostbite and lost two fingers. Remarkably, Akshay thrives despite facing four biological defects, including a life-threatening blood disorder that doctors warned would prevent him from surviving boot camp. Drawing on his life's experiences and a profound understanding of science and spirituality, Akshay authored the groundbreaking book "Fearvana," featuring a foreword written by none other than the Dalai Lama himself. And that's not all – every single penny from the book's profits goes directly to charity, reflecting Akshay's unwavering commitment to giving back to the world. Now, Akshay's mission is clear: to help humanity embrace suffering as a catalyst for greater meaning, purpose, joy, and fulfillment. When I then decided to join the United States Marine Corps, two doctors told me that boot camp would kill me, thanks to a blood disorder I was born with. But I wasn't about to let that stop me. Not only did I complete boot camp (with a twisted ankle, no less), but I was chosen as the honor graduate in Infantry school and went on to spend 7 months in Iraq where my job was to walk in front of our vehicle convoys to find explosives before they could destroy our vehicles. That was just the beginning of my understanding of the positive power of fear and struggle. In 2012, I left a comfortable corporate job to drag a 190-pound sled 350-miles across the world's second largest polar ice cap for a month. I've swam through underwater caves, almost been killed by a falling boulder while glacier caving, experienced severe altitude sickness while climbing in the Himalayas, and suffered through heat exhaustion while running across countries. But my greatest struggle came many years after the war. I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and consequently struggled with depression and alcohol addiction that drove me to the brink of suicide. I then spent years studying neuroscience, psychology and spirituality to not only heal my own brain, but figure out what does it take to live a happy, succesful and meaningful life. That is when I rejected the label of PTSD assigned to me and created a new one – Fearvana. I define Fearvana as the bliss that results from engaging our fears to pursue our own worthy struggle. I then wrote a book about the concept called “Fearvana: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear Into Health, Wealth and Happiness.”Flex Diet Podcast SponsorThis podcast is brought to you by the Physiologic Flexibility Certification course. What a cool experience, sitting next to my son Denny as my cohost, interviewing a man who wrote a book about reconnecting with his father!  I am grateful for every minute I spend with my son, but having him next to me during a podcast is a very impactful experience.  In this episode we speak with military veteran and author, Mike Liguori about his experience in the marines, his battle with depression and how reconnecting with his father changed his life.  After being on the brink of suicide induced by years of PTSD from fighting in Iraq with the Marines, a series of supernatural interventions saved Mike Liguori's life. His military service and deployments to a war zone were not by accident. He had engaged and often ran away from his enemies long before and after the war within the shadow of his past. His most recent book, The Road Ahead and Miles Behind: A Story of Healing and Redemption Between Father and Son chronicles the story of a cross-country road trip taken during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic with one of the darkest shadows of his past, his relationship with his father. The Road Ahead and Miles Behind shares the intricate yet beautiful nature between them as they look to reconcile their differences and amend a challenging past. The book is full of inspiring moments and perspectives that demonstrate the healing power of hard conversations with those you love. It's a story that will remind you it's never too late to have something with your parents. His journey of service and writing has been featured on the San Jose Mercury, Huffington Post Live, and Conscious Magazine.Website: mikeliguori.comInstagram: @mike.liguoriAmazon: https://amzn.to/3GYdfKFBarnes and Noble: https://bit.ly/3EasdLrBuilding Men InstagramBuilding Men WebsiteBuilding Men YouTubeBuilding Men FacebookAnthony Morolda InstagramBook a free coaching call with Dennis Join the Tribe of Brothers Virtual Coaching Group for Young MenIf our podcast resonates with you, please consider rating, reviewing and sharing it with anyone who you believe would benefit from the message.Visit our sponsors - Finish The Race – Home of the official Building Men gearBecome Stronger Industries - use code "buildingmen" for 10% off your order

Howdy, you Beautiful Soul!Today I'm so proud to introduce you to one of the most interesting, most intelligent, and kindest people that I've ever had the pleasure to meet. It's Akshay Nanavati. He's an adventurer, researcher, author, entrepreneur, and the creator of Fearvana--a way of living he's discovered and the name of his bestselling book..The Dalai Lama (yes, THAT one) says, "Feavana inspires us to look beyond our own agonizing experiences and find the positive side of our lives."Here are just a few of the ridiculously awesome nuggets of wisdom that you'll get from Akshay (and me, too! Yay me!) during this honest conversation about leading a better life:"Wandering with the Human Heart" á la Carl Jung. The deep dark valley, and how that helps us appreciate the good in life (the paradox of singular duality). The dead depending on us for their redemption. The purity of pain. The thoughts of hurting us.The guilt over being privileged in life. Why the goal of progress shouldn't be to make life EASIER.Earning this life. What it is that makes life really worth living. There are a few colorful words that escape Akshay's mouth, so I needed to list this one as "Explicit" but it's all done in good taste.I really think you're going to love this Let me know what you think at c@chipfranks.comYou are loved and deserving!Chip ❤️
